Some people are confusing ferguson township in center county, pennsylvania, with ferguson, missouri. The chief says her department has tweeted out who to contact. Now, to the Philadelphia School budget crisis. Tomorrow morning, there is a lot at stake for thousands of parents, students and teachers in a School District of philadelphia. At 10 00 a. M. , superintendent dr. William hite will stus whether schools will open on time and whether or not there will be teacher layoffs. The state house of representatives did not pass the cigarette tax yet which School Leaders said was essential to start sochool on time. Concerned parents and activists attended a meeting in south philadelphia. Many of these people have signed petitions demanding local control of public schools. Organizers say they collected 40,000 signatures. They want to abolish the School Reform commission and are asking for a valid question to do it. Youre the ones who are with the children every day. Parents and teachers and Community Members are with the children every day and we know what their needs are. The people sitting in harrisburg know what our needs are. Philadelphias city council and mayor must approve the ballot question before it would go to voters. One of the first programs cut during the School Budget crisis was music. Some children are taking their talents to the streets to raise money to keep the music playing. And they dont just play for a few hours. They play all day long. Reporter jacqueline, these kids say their school here is tight for cash so they have no choice but to stand outside every day on the streets and play music for money. I heard the music. I turned around and i saw these young kids and i was like, wow, i had to stop and listen. Reporter they play along walnut street, Chestnut Street and at suburban station. Were basically out here to, like, put money toward our instruments. Getting your bow repaired is 6 o and the bows are 200 to 500. Theyre really expensive. Reporter every day these students for the Philadelphia High School of creative and performing arts stand on city sidewalks trying to raise money. Thank you. Nobody is helping us save. We have to go ahead and do it ourselves. Instead of hanging out with your friends at a beach or going to a movie, you guys come out and play every day. Play six to seven hours a day. If were getting the funding and stuff taken out of our schools, how are we supposed to t go ahead and excel . It makes me feel happy they take the time out of their lives to come watch me play. That is the plea u. S. Congressman fattahs son made in court today. The grand jury indicted him on federal charges. He lied to get 200,000 in bank loans and filed false tax returns. The government also alleges he took federal funds from contracts with the Philadelphia School district to spend at restaurants, clubs and casinos. Fattah jr. Denies all the charges. No trial date has been set. Fattahs former Business Partner already pleaded guilty and is cooperating in the case. He is the son of u. S. Congressman fattah. A missing meagans law sex offender is busted in bucks county. Raheem johnson vanished four years ago. He pleaded guilty to sex charges in 2006 and registered as a sex offender in 2010. But allegedly never updated his information. Johnson is supposed to check in with state police every three months. Johnson was arrested last night after domestic dispute in bristol township. Tonight hes in prison. A Cape May County woman is dead after she was thrown from a golf cart. It happened early yesterday morning on route 50 in tucahoe. 27yearold rachel shaddon was riding in the passengers seat when the cart hit a car and flipped over. Police charged her driver, the aunt, with dui. Robin williams wife revealed today the actor and comedian was in the early stages of parkinsons disease at the time of his death. She released revelations today in her second statement since Authorities SayRobin Williams committed suicide. The statement said williams was sober but that he was struggling with depression, anxiety, and the parkinsons diagnosis. Which his wife says he wasnt ready to share with the public. This is a very unfortunate incident, and we are very, very upset about it and we hope this dog is found. The yorkie was born in june and recently came into that pet store. On his plane from rome to south korea, the pontiff told nbcs ann thompson that he would visit philadelphia to celebrate world family day next september.
