A morning in delaware, a barn in kent county is destroyed after a predawn fire, and the fire engine on the way to the scene was in an accident. This happened in leipsic, just north of dover. Matt delucia spoke with one of the firefighters who was on that truck. Reporter this is what firefighters in leipsic, kent county were headed to, a large barn fire. But before one of the crews could get there, there was probably. I got a truck flipped on east state road the left side of the truck got off, went to the shoulder and we wound up going down into the ditch. Reporter leipsic volunteer fire chief mike greco was around that truck at around 2 30 this morning. They were trying to get around a tanker on this twolane road just a few hundred feet from the fire. You can see the fire trucks there and where the truck wound up, about three feet below the road. As soon as the tanker went past us, he got out to see if we were all right. Weapon he got up, he told the officer in charge at the scene that everybody was all right. The driver was take on the the hospital for observation but was released and returned to fight this fire. We watched as one crew focused on the barn and another tried to get this engine on to solid ground. Several towns responded, but the barn was destroyed. It had equipment inside and so did the engine. The truck was towed back to the fire house with the chief spending his sunday calling the insurance company. The trucks replaceable. The firemen arent. And the firemen were okay. So were fine from that point. In leipsic, kent county, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. New from overnight, Philadelphia Police are investigating a triple shooting in cobbs creek. The victims were taken to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. All three in critical condition. Philadelphia police are also investigating a double shooting in kensington. Two men were shot near the intersection of kensington avenue and sedgely just after midnight. Both are hospitalized. They are stable. Police tell us they found a gun at the scene that was registered to one of the victims. So far, no arrests. Happening today, a protest by Philadelphia Police at the site of the murder of officer daniel faulkner. The demonstration will be in response to a College Speech being given today by the officers convicted killer mumia abujamal. A recorded speech by abujamal will be played today for 20 students at Goddard College in vermont. Abujamal received a bachelors degree from that school in 1996 while behind bars. Abujamal is serving life in prison for killing officer faulkner in 1991. Faulkners wife says they made the wrong choice. Sometime in their future of their life, they are going to come across either a loved one, or maybe a friend that will lose their life brutally, a and when they do, they can think of me. Goddard college says they do not condone the violence of which abujamal was convicted, but does encourage students to take on controversial subjects. In mercer county, the first death related to enterovirus d68 in our area has health and School Officials taking safety precautions. Gold and blue ribbons line eli wallers neighborhood in hamilton township. Friday night, authorities confirmed it was enterovirus d68 that took the life of the 4yearold boy who attended preschool at yardville elementary. The virus attacks very rapidly and very suddenly. The child was asymptomatic and fine. The next morning, he had passed. The School District says it has added extra staff to disinfect the school, and another meeting on this issue is set for tonight at steinert high school. Happening today, the freelance nbc news contractor who contracted ebola will be flown to nebraska for treatment. Meanwhile, Thomas Duncan has gotten worse. Hes now in critical condition. The head of the centers for Disease Control and prevention says about 50 people who had contact with duncan have been located and tested. So far, though, no one is showing symptoms. So we are confident that none of those with definite contact had any symptoms related to ebola. None of them had fever. Well be watching that very closely. A funeral mass for trooper kendra is at morell avenue and chesterfield road also in northeast philadelphia. Officials say kendra was accidentally shot by another trooper tuesday. They say it happened during a training exercise. Kendra was 26 years old. He had been a member of the Pennsylvania State police since june of 2012. He was a graduate of Temple University and was engaged to be married. It is now day 23 in the search for suspected trooper killer eric frein. New details are emerging about Text Messages he was sending the day of the attack. The times tribune of scranton reports a friend received a text from frein less than five hours before he allegedly opened fire outside a Pennsylvania State Police Barracks in pike county on september 12th saying all is good. Frein also said he was heading back to delaware. According to police, he lied to relatives and others about working in delaware so he could prepare for the ambush. One trooper was killed and a second wounded in that attack. In the city of chester, the family of a man killed in a fire bombing wants answers, especially since he was targeted twice before. Anthony gorman died yesterday morning in the fire at his home on baldwin street in chester. Fire investigators are calling it suspicious. A pennsylvania judge is refusing to throw out a lawsuit involving the 60 million fine against Penn State University in the Jerry Sandusky case. Penn state accepted the penalty as part of a deal with the ncaa. State treasurer rob mccord and a state senator sued to have the money used to fight child abuse in pennsylvania. Ryan howell quickly jumped on to his friends kayak. I was like, get me out of this water. We were right next to the other guys, so i pretty much jumped on their kayak and out of the water. And across the region, were at 48 degrees in reading for philadelphia. In the low 50s, same thing in atlantic city, with plenty of sunshine if youre closer to the shore. An exchange of words on the street led a promising player to wonder if hed ever play football again. Heres his story. Reporter 64, 320pound offensive lineman rayquan thomas is a standout on the simon gratz Football Team. A junior and captain, he has already been contacted by several colleges. Hes a bigtime football player, but hes a good person. Hes going to be successful. Reporter his success hasnt come easy, though. He had to learn a new school and a new team after transferring to simon gratz before his sophomore year. You dont know exactly when to leave a blog or to stay. So once you build that chemistry, its good. Reporter it only took a few games to build that chemistry, and on october 4th of 2013, it all clicked on the football field. My brother told me all the time that it was one of the best games. We beat dobbins 386. It was fun. We dominated. After the game, some of the guys left the stadium, they wanted to have a little postgame celebration at the local mcdonalds, only they didnt make it that far. This is as far as they got that night. Happening in about a half an hour from now in cape may county, about 1,500 walkers will hit the boardwalk in ocean city for the Fourth Annual hero walk. The event raises money to help prevent drunk driving. This year, the walkers will toss hats into the air as a symbolic pledge to be a designated driver, or use one whenever they drink. The walk starts at 11 00 at the civic center at sixth and the boardwalk. The largest air show in the country wraps up in san diego today. The show is expected to draw 250,000 people, despite a heat wave there. The Main Attractions include stunts by the navys blue angels and a vietnam era helicopter.
