Other areas down the shore remaining dry, that could change this morning as that rain starts to pass through. We have plenty of clouds this morning, those clouds will be around throughout much of your day today so well call it cloudy today with also showers in the forecast. We had construction closing the platt bridge much of the weekend. This project was expected to last until about 5 00 this morning but the bridge is open, traffic is moving, not much traffic right now but this project did wrap early so you are good to go if you want to use the platt bridge. The rest of the area bridges are pretty quiet. This is the ben franklin bridge. No issues there. No issues on 95. This is a live look 95 at girard avenue. Later on, tonight, a big construction project is scheduled to start on 95 near the girard avenue interchange its going to affect the northbound lanes so well keep you updated on that and much more this morning but as you can see right now, traffic is moving in both directions on 95 without issues. Chris. Also happening today, the truck driver involved in that accident on the new jersey turnpike that critically injured tracy morgan is scheduled to appear in court. Kevin roper is charged with one count of death by auto, four counts of assault by auto. Investigators say roper was driving the tractortrailer that smashed into the back of the limo bus. His publicist said that he is still in Critical Condition but has been, quote, more responsive and will remain in the hospital for several weeks. Jillian mentioned this. If your drive includes i95 through philadelphia get ready for a new round of delays and closures. Penn dot is starting a project on that stretch but this is different from the others. Beginning tonight workers are rebuilding and widening the girard avenue interchange and three miles of i95 northbound from reese street to allegheny avenue. Let me say if the weather were having is anything like the weather were going to have tomorrow then its going to further complicate things for the Early Morning commute. This project is different, its unique, its going to last until 2018. Were talking about a short stretch of i95 northbound between girard and allegheny. Lets go to the maps and get a perspective on where penn dot will work. Its a mile and a half. Crews are truly transforming the road. Its an improvement project, the second largest in penn dot history costing 212 million. They are going to reconstruct the exit on and off ramps, add retaining walls, install signs, naming some of the work. It all starts tonight. The work will be done between 10 p. M. And 5 00 a. M. This time tomorrow drivers will see lane shifts and closures, it will take extra time to get around the work. This is part of a larger project you may recall to rebuild and widen 95 north and southbound in this area because according to penn dot this stretch of road is deteriorating and it has aged. So, what do drivers think about this . Ill have their reaction coming up. You can count on nbc 10 to keep you ahead of this traffic trouble. Crews say they are making progress on a bridge project that is impacting thousands of you. They are removing a massive amount of dirt that is suspected of causing the i495 bridge to tilt. This is just the first step in getting the bridge reopened. A project that could take weeks if not months. In the past two days engineers found cracks in the bridges foundation. It was closed last monday after officials determined it is unsafe. This morning another member of new jersey governor christies administration will testify on the jersey jam scandal. Chief of staff kevin odowd is going to have to answer questions on the finances, operations and management of the Port Authority of new york and new jersey. A committee in new jersey is investigating the closing of access lanes on the George Washington bridge that crippled the borough of ft. Lee. And governor christie is scheduled to attend a Campaign Event for pennsylvania governor tom corbett today. They are going to have company. Jesse gary is live outside the union league this morning and jesse, the governor is not the only big name at the event. Reporter thats right. The appearance inside the centuries Old Union League here in center city is part of the republican governors association, as you said Chris Christie will also be here. But the protesters aimed at corbett, the incumbent seeks reelection and opponents attack him on many fronts including education. There have been 1 billion in Education Funding cut since corbett took office. The last time he tried to visit it did not go as planned. There could be a similar effect. This one had an extra level of excitement given that the legalization of samesex marriage in pennsylvania happened three weeks ago. Nevadas governor is calling it an act of senseless violence, two Police Officers ambushed as they sat down to eat lunch. Tracy is following that story in our digital operations center. Happening today the Philadelphia Fire Department is going to introduce a new Water Safety Program aimed at helping preventing drowning over the summer. Operation stay on shore is what its called. It will increase awareness of the dangers of swimming in the creeks and rivers. One of the voices is the mother of Brandon Boyle who drowned last summer. Boyle was a student at Lewis Farrell school in northeast philadelphia where the assembly will be held today. The Fire Department says six people died last year while swimming in creeks and rivers and many more had to be rescued by first responders. Philadelphia police say they have one man in custody after a deadly weekend road rage incident. They say the man is not the only person responsible. Someone opened fire on a car driving down roosevelt boulevard. The driver was killed. His passenger, a 31yearold woman, was shot twice. Sources say this incident all began when the driver wouldnt let a group of motorcycles get in front of his car. The driver exited the car and everything happened after he got out of the car. And the girl exited the car too. She was shot. Then we heard all of the motorcycles take off. One of them didnt get away. This bike was still in the street. That is the person that police took into custody. The woman who was shot is in stable condition. Sources tell us police questioned that person who is in custody and are waiting on the District Attorneys Office to decide on charges. We have more information this morning on a developing story out of las vegas. A shooting spree that left two Police Officers and three others dead. Tracy davidson is tracking those developments in our digital operations center. Chris, the governor of nevada issued a statement saying he is devastated by the murders of those two Police Officers and an innocent bystander. Police say a man and woman walked into a pizza place and shot two Police Officers who were having lunch. Then they took their weapons, ran across the street to a walmart, shot and killed another person, they got into a gun battle with police before running to the back of the store and killing themselves in apparent suicide pact. During the attacks witnesses say the suspects yelled this is a revolution. Our officers did come in contact with suspects at which time gunfire took place between the officers and the suspects. A short time later, more shots were heard. Preliminary appears the female suspect shot the male suspect, then took her own life. Now t two officers killed both had families, one had a wife and three children, the other had a wife and a baby. A las vegas newspaper is reporting this morning that if suspects were married, had an apartment four miles from the pizza place and had extremist views about law enforcement. A man charmed with a shot gun opened fire thursday, killing 19yearold paw lee, a student, and wounding another student. A fundraising page for john mease has raised more than 44,000. Another page set up to cover the cost of lees funeral and williams medical care is nearing 13,000. U. S. Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl held by the taliban is telling officials he was tortured. He was released nine days ago in exchange for five terror suspects. Reports show that bergdahl may have been captured after deserting his post. Bergdahl says he was kept in a cage after twice trying to escape. He still is being treated that the u. S. Medical facility in germany. He will be moved to a Medical Center in san antonio.
