One Fire Department official tells wbz last night that it almost became the worst night roll call. Julie has more. And out of the window. Reporter the fire in brighton went to three alarms. And i can see there were a roof. I can see there were flashlights and that there was a lot of smoke inside. Reporter after 7 30 friday, the focus turned to the firefighters inside. His friends formed a human chain to keep him above water until help arrived. It was a dramatic scene in the park. The 15yearold was trying to retrieve a soccer ball that the teen who weighs 220 pounds, fell into the ice and several friends held on to him like a human chain and couldnt get him out. And that is when the troop the trooper arrived. He was able to pull the boy out of the icy water and over a fivefoot wall to safety. He was in shock, basically. And he could have moved and when assisted his friends, you know, we pulled him up by his apartments arms and got him up on to the water and on to the ground. I was happy i was nearby. I was able to get to the scene quickly and that was a Job Well Done by everyone involved. The teen was neck deep in the water for five minutes and he was taken to the hospital but is expected to be fine. And thankful to his friends and a trooper who showed up just in time. Some sad news this morning. The fivemonthold baby girl hit by a car in roxbury has died. Her mother is still in the hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened as they thursday night. The driver did stop and is cooperating with police. So far, no charges have been filed. A 19yearold from framingham is charged with an armed assault that forced Umass Amhurst into lock counsel. Lockdown. He surrendered to police on friday. The night before, he pistol whipped a student in the freshman dorm. Theyre looking for the second suspect but they dont believe this was a random attack. And time for campaign 2016, two big tests in the race for president. A republican primary in South Carolina is now hours away. Donald trump is leading but ted cruz is gaping ground. The race is tight between trump and cruz, the victory could be a crippling blow to the cruz campaign. South carolina is a hot bed of conservative evangelical voters, the kind that will make up a part of the voters that will take part in supertuesday on march 1st. The report finds that one of those incidents was mishandled. When racially egregious remarks were made by students, they were not properly investigated, communication was not properly done. And so those issues need to be addressed. And so the new report makes a long list of recommendations, including training for students and staff and an antiracism initiative. Hospital with minor injuries. The fire broke out at the home around 7 30 last night. And firefighters game became concerned when none of the personal alarms started going off and so they called a mayday. They went into search and moments. Everyone was accounted for. The assistant [ indiscernible ] triggered the scare. Dome. Move for 30 seconds, the alarm signifies to the alarm system that you may some type of truck. And the fire chief said they will look further into what triggered that alarm. Seven adults are displaced and a dog is still missing. Meanwhile, a dramatic rescue in fall river. A teenager falls through thin ice and his friends formed a human chain to keep him above water until help arrived. The 15yearold is trying to retrieve a soccer pale ball the teen who weighs 220 pounds fell through the ice. His friends tried and couldnt get him out. That is when the trooper duart arrived. He was able to pull the boy out of the icy water and out of a fivefoot wall to safety. And he was in shock, basically and couldnt move. And i assisted his friends, you know, reporting pulling him up by the arms and got him up on to the water on to the ground. I was happy it was nearby and was able to get to the scene quickly. And its a job welldone by everyone involved. And the teen was neck deep in the water for about five minutes. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be fine and thankful to his friends and the trooper who showed up just in time. And some sad news to report. The fivemonthold baby girl died. Her mother is still in the hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened as they thursday night. Filed. And a 19yearold from framingham is charged with an armed assault that forced Umass Amhurst into a lockdown. She surrendered to Police Thursday night, he pistol whipped a student in a freshman dorm. Its to end and prevent homelessness in Greater Boston and we started about 20 years ago and what were doing is we work with every shelter in boston and cambridge to house People Living in shelters and were working on the front end before family spirals into a cycle of homelessness to prevent it from happening in the first place. And you prevent it. And if you cant, after theyre in a shelter limit iser, you last year, we housed 680 People Living on the street in boston. Uhhuh. Well get a phone call into the shelter and work with the individual until theyre permanently housed. 680 people is substantial number of folks in this housing mark. With the prevention services, we prevented 407 families who are living at or below the Poverty Level from experiencing homelessness in the first place and there are folks on the edge of about being ing abouting homeless because of an untun unanticipated crisis and we will work with them over 12 months and 98 of the families, we prevent the eviction from happening and maintain the housing. And that is incredible. And we have a special fund raiser coming up . I cycle fund raiser is a unique fund raiser, happening thursday, the 25th. Uhhuh. And at 1 International Place in boston. And its a stationary bike we have spin classes from 7 00 a. M. To 6 00 p. M. And it allows individuals and corporate groups raise a lot of fund and awareness for people in the street. Were braving elements for an hour knowing the number of people live their lives on the streets. I have to say i did this last year with my producer sam. We were freezing but it was so much fun to know it was for such a good cause. It was wonderful. Tell us about some of the Success Stories now. We always love to hear that from a to z. Oh, my goodness. There are thousands of Success Stories and, you know, years ago, i, i lived and worked in the shelter and one of my bunch meats bu in, k meats was living in the car with his son and he had this whole narrative of adventure for his son so the son would know they were really homeless. A teacher figured out they were living in the car and removed dcf was there at school and picked him up. I worked with that person closely the next six months. We hospital he went to a shelter and worked his tail off to find permanent housing for his son. So, we can do that and reunit them and that is reunite them. And when there are kids involved, its emotional. Uhhuh. And what if someone wants to volunteer and help out. Is there a way to do that .
