Charlottes former mayor back in jail tonight after his guilty plea for voter fraud im jamie boll in for paul cameron. Im Maureen Oboyle nice to have you here. This is the first time we have seen or heard from patrick cannon in more than a year. Prison for corruption. This is cannons latest mug shot taken after he was transported to the mecklenberg county jail last night. Today he admitted to voting as a felon in 2014. And received a sentence of one day behind bars. Brody oconnell was in the courtroom and joins us live and brody, cannon was a well connected city leader. How did he seem in court today . Maureen it was a confident patrick cannon that entered the courtroom. He had a smile on his face and that smile faded away once the hearing began. Cannon pleaded guilty to a class one misdemeanor charge of attempted voter fraud. That carries with it a maximum penalty of 120 days in prison. Cannon got that one day tacked on that will be served simultaneously with the 44 months he is serving in federal prison. After the hearing we did speak he shed light on what its been like for patrick cannon. He said cannon used this time to reflect and think about the crimes that he committed. Health wise he seems to be doing fine. He looks good. But that doesnt mean that none of this has an effect on him. I say today that no matter what your sentence is when you go through a criminal proceeding today it is a life sentence because of the consequences never go away. And im told that patrick cannon will be taken back to morgantown, west virginia. And in the meantime he will be held in the mecklenberg county jail.
