Kids were out of school three days. 11 minutes before 5 00. A live look at the charlotte skyline from Scott Clark Nissan honda hd tower cam, a clear, crisp morning out there this morning, were below freezing right now. And the big question is how much will we warm up today, what about the weekend and what about this potential for major storm come monday . Here is meteorologist al conklin conklin. Al john, you have a lot of questions, but no answers, huh . Ill answer them. We wont get as cold as yesterday morning, we hit 17 yesterday morning. Clear, calm conditions, that is not the case this morning. We have a canopy of cloud cover across the area that is producing a little bit of snow for the mountains, perhap as flurry north of town. Totally expected, we talked about this yesterday. With that, we have a Winter Weather advisory which runs through the day today in morning. Initially a little bit of light snow on the front end as the winds pick up snow showers will pick up later today and tonight they will end fairly quickly across the piedmont during the morning hours. Lets look at futurecast, anything you would see here would be snow and this is probably heavyhanded but the timing i think is right on this. This is noon, you see a batch moving through and notice by 4 00, we get holes in the clouds while snow showers continue for the mountains. This is going to be a very, very light event for all of us outside of the high country, heading out this evening, we will be dry. So for the mountains, different story, high country i think by the time this winds down tomorrow morning you could wind up with 24 inches, the 4 inches more likely in the highest of elevations. Boone, blowing rock, west jefferson, Population Centers an inch or two of snow. Our temperatures are not as cold. Yesterday morning, as i mentioned, down to 17, this because of that cloudiness and breeze helps keep the temperature stirred up. We will have a cooler day today, yesterday, 48, today, maybe 42, in that neighborhood. Chilly. 23 in jefferson, 25 in boone, everybody else is a little closer to freezing, upper 20s to low 30s. 30s hickory, lincolnton, rock hill and in concord. Today, lots of clouds, especially for the morning and midday hours, maybe a few breaks of sunshine, notice chance for flurries from charlotte on northward, no more than 20 chance here and with those temperatures, anything that falls outside the high country is not going to accumulate. Our rainsnow chance is slight, but they ramp up sunday night into monday and tuesday, especially monday night into tuesday, so this is the way things are looking. We have some changes since the last time we were together. The low now doesnt look like it is necessarily going to track far south of us, as a result, we will likely get in warmer air things, this is our 8 00 position monday morning, we probably start with snow and sleet and transitions, becomes snow for the mountain, rest of us sleet, freezing rain and plain rain. A sloppy forecast for monday into tuesday. But it does not look to be as bad as what it looked like yesterday. Today, we get rid of the flurries quickly. Going in the weekend, dry but cold, watching monday and tuesday. John five before 5 00. A topic stirring emotions with charlottemecklenburg school board creating a plan to decide where your child will attend school. At a meeting yesterday, Board Members confronted the fear many parents have been talking about, forced busing to achieve more diverse schools. Wbtvs Dedrick Russell was in that meeting and has more. Reporter parents showed up with signs to tell Board Members no to forced busing. Board member Rhonda Lennon wanted the colleagues to pass a resolution saying forced busing will not be considered, Committee Chairman tom tate said no he believes it is too early. They reworded the goals, there was discussion, tate got frustrated with the direction of board member e ricka ellisstewart to take over. This is difficult work. To take a step forward you have to take a step back. The give and flow, natural tension were passionate what were doing. I feel a little unfortunate mr. Tate did not want to participate. Jenny dahlstrand has three kids. Busing concerns her. There is anxiety. My firm belief is nobody should be bused. Not my kids, and not any kids. Lennon didnt get the resolution about forced busing but did get words changed in the goals. She hopes that will calm parents fears. I was very adamant the Parent Choice would be a key component to the goal. And it is now been added,ed aing that word is huge for me. While Board Members deal with policy, the district was in certain neighborhoods today making sure a Diverse Group of people fill out surveys about we wanted to take a look at the map, identify zip codes and come to where the people are. So far, this team has gathered about 300 responses. But the one response these parents want to hear is no forced busing. I feel that since it is still there, it is still there. John that was Dedrick Russell reporting. So far the majority of the Board Members dont believe in forced busing, they claim that could be expensive. We wanted to talk to tate after the meeting, he referred us to ellisstewart.
