Saving for your kids for college or for other expenses that pop up and then ultimately just building retirement money for retirement stage and then living in retirement how to spend your money if you know what to look for then at least you have a blueprint for each stage and if you're able to follow the blueprint at each stage it teaches you a Christian excess the problem Christians when you mess up in one or 2 stages well put you behind the 8 ball so to speak and then you're playing catch up we're talking with Tom Corley the author of effortless wealth smart money habits at every stage of your life even with great planning in making the right choices there can be financial crisis situations that occur such as with many small businesses during the pandemic what do you do in those situations obviously if you're a saver investor I talk about the bucket strategy there's different buckets one of the buckets that you want to put at least 3 percent maybe 3 to 5 percent of your income away and it is these expenses that come out of nowhere they're caused by a job loss they're caused by maybe a downturn in the economy and you know you maybe get a pay cut maybe a Freesia wages I've gone through that myself I know what it's like when you're raising a family it's very difficult so if you have this safety net the other thing you need to do is to pivot during these downturns and sometimes these downturns create opportunities I know a few of the individuals in my study during the 20082009 recession they were able to pivot and they might have been temporarily out of a job because they were able to pivot and develop certain new skills or reach out to certain relationships that they hadn't talked to and they were able to get themselves back on track so that's why building relationships is a rich habit you want to really forge relationships with people who are influencers . Because you never know when you're going to need that when you're out of a job I found in my study that it's a good opportunity to network and the best networking I seen the millionaires do is they join these charities eventually become members of the board so if you're out of a job maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to join a local community based nonprofit because yes shoes on the boards of those nonprofits predominately the successful people in the community and those successful people can open up doors you say following the lessons in your book you will catapult yourself to the top 5 percent of individuals who never have to worry about having enough money what is the net wealth of the top 5 percent according to the i.r.s. Because they have the best a data on this it's somewhere in the neighborhood $175000.00 and gross income Believe it or not 275000 puts you in the top 5 percent now of course there is fluctuations and have to because some people have big years and then then they go back to normal I see that with some of the millionaires in my study where they get a windfall because of restricted stock units or stock appreciation rights or stock options or Woodstock grants but my point is that to get to the top 5 percent you don't have to necessarily be a big company climber you can save your way to that tough 5 percent and then those savings particularly Chris in the last 10 years of your working career that's where you're going to see your investment double maybe even increase by 150 percent because of the power of compound all the work you did up until that point now starts to produce the fruits of your savings and your investment labors and you'll see that that money really starts to grow towards the end Tom if you could suggest a one strategy for older Americans seniors perhaps too. Elections then the president of the National Urban League Mark Morial will check in to discuss voter engagement and enthusiasm in black communities all across the country along with the impact of the pandemic and how the National Urban League is helping on that front so all of that I'm more is on the way 1st up I'm joined by Crystal Carson vice president of communications culture and media partnerships at when we all vote which is a national nonpartisan nonprofit that brings together citizens institutions brands and organizations to increase participation in every election the initiative was launched by former 1st lady Michelle Obama and the Web site where you can find out more is when we all vote dot org Krista we appreciate you joining us for a few minutes let's start with some background on the organization how it came about and how it works yet here I thank you so much for having me and really kind of people here this morning today so being I think many in the organization was won by the former 1st lady you know I think after 2016 when a 100000000 people didn't show up to vote that was really concerning to a lot of folks including her and she's also joined by a number of amazing co-chairs Rudy Tom Hanks in on Monday Shonda Rhimes among many others who are all in the game really just to make sure that people have their resources the information that they need to turn out to vote and ensure that we are talking about in keeping balloting and a safe haven in the Congress you know not just for presidential year but for nature and well if we launch right before the midterm election then we saw him a thing increase in communities like young people. Where you know a 3rd of them turned out to go and which I think a great midterm but still too young people is not valid then so we're really focused on closing a raid the rate in the gap and any increase in that boat a parking space and everything all left and then making sure again that people feel confident and ready to go to the polls not just this year but every year and what's your personal story with when we all vote how did you wind up with this organization that's a great question so I worked for the former aide ministry in within the White House in the communication and was really excited to see that work worked for Hillary Clinton and then you know really was passionate and really was driven to you know again work on and make sure that people felt like they were being reached out to and talk to about voting socially as a young woman from a lab you know we didn't always have those convert and it wasn't always mine but what we know is our research see that you if you grow up in a household who were you see people voting if you have those conversations in your communities you're more likely to go and check their ballot and research shows if you vote for the 1st time you turn 18 you become a lifelong voter So this was a really passion project for me and when you know the team reached out and said we're getting ready to launch this initiative would really love you to go on hours like I have to do it so you know there's a saying once you're in the Obama family never leave I think average true I think I was going to hit it but I just have to go back for a 2nd and highlight something you're from Alaska and you end up in the White House talk shop when you were there in the White House working I mean sometimes it is self I can't believe I'm here oh every day I mean every day you know there's days when you wake up. It's like you get up that year you roll out of bed you're like I was going to go back to bed yeah but it's a real it's a surreal experience when you feel you know you when you're working along side people who are fighting each and every single day other people to like sure that people have access to resources whether that's health care or you know any other resource like job that really aren't any different than folks live and for me it was truly truly an honor to serve in that administration and and you know someone who grew up again was you know we having a conversation and about politics in government it was a real eye opener to show that you know people everything will day and it doesn't matter what many shaking your hand are really fighting for folks who don't always have the opportunity or opportunity that they might like but there are people on the other side we're fighting for you every day we're really an amazing experience to be with and those that unity I'm joined by Crystal Carson vice president of communications culture and media partnerships when we all vote here on i Heart Radio it's a national nonpartisan nonprofit that brings together citizens institutions brands and organizations to increase participation in elections the initiative was 1st launched by former 1st lady Michelle Obama and of course you can find out more lots of great resources for you at when we all vote dot org Again when we all vote dot org You know obviously you were part of the Obama administration this was launched by the former 1st lady but it is a nonpartisan nonprofit your open to helping out anyone regardless of party affiliation who's looking to make a plan to vote correct 100 percent and we do work with people on on all sides of the aisles we have multiple programs we work but I will. Didn't really work with mayors were Republican mayors work with Democratic mayor need to work with independent mayor we work with anyone with interested in helping to make sure that we are reaching people everywhere and that they all have every opportunity to get a as they had to make their voice heard and to again increase voter participation so anyone who shared the goal shares that goal or they should want that we want to work with you we want to work with individuals just to make story specially in times like these that they have the right in for me and and they feel confident going into the voting booth and that they're making sure that they're sharing that information with their friends and family you know as it initiative that began after the 26 team election really took a leap forward in 22 you've talked about the growth talked about what you've seen from the start of this organization to the 20 if you midterms to now this 2020 election is incredible it could be really incredible to see you know so many and particularly young people out there talking about voting Saeco many people I mean I think everyone knows now they probably have a little bit of that the election is November 3rd in the end you know to be honest with you some people don't always are always tracking map because again when you turn on the t.v. Or when you when you're on social media you don't always need conversation happening you don't need that you don't always need the information about you know whether you're packing your ballot about or about whether you're casting your ballot by mail or you're going to go and play or early voting you know the type registering to vote using the time to convert that we when we want to coordinate and we were hoping would be had you know not a month out from the election but they want to run the election which is why we work with any number of different organ in. And her kid. Her attorney there already we work with you know media group to be able to make sure that these are voting that it's working and its participation is on the top of people's mind always and then 20 mean I think they say that we have done part of our job. In changing you know one thing that the Obama. Goal and when starting the organization with the change the culture around voting and what that means is that making sure that people feel cry in voting and they know that their vote really got out and make that difference and I think more and more we're seeing people really wake you know waking up to that and that's evident by the over 70000000 ballots that have already been acted and we're still out action or we're still very you know they're left and right around the corner so it's really exciting to see people are really taking their. Theory but they're also having a little fun with you know where we're out at full length and we are doing really a fun. Exciting celebration and you know all Kobe friendly but we have the days and we have the world in which is an amazing organization founded by Jose on that it's providing free food to people at the polls where we've got you and sanitized that cool math that they vote on it you know there are other organizations that are doing and find that the polls so you know it's becoming this thing that people feel they need to do and and now we need to do the one in jail and where so excited that I'm joined by Crystal Carson vice president of communications culture and media partnerships when we all vote you can find out more when we all vote dot org obviously the big difference between this election and past elections is the pandemic talk a little bit about the impact of co. At 19 on the work you're doing just the election overall yeah so when coded. Our team when we all vote had to really go back to the drawing board and think about how do we really reach people at a time when traditional ways they're breaking people around you know voter registration have to try and no longer was an option and so we had been planning back in March 1 of our key caucus and rallies with the former 1st lady in Detroit where we were having or trying to cause me and a number of amazing partners and folks in the community coming join us to talk about ending again to get information out about the wedding and we had to you know we had to quickly cancel right after it now. Because it was you know very quickly we realized it was not and if they are people and I think when we all go and a number of other organizations during similar work had their great Think how do we need to repeat but when you can no longer you know go door to door that you're right is there any there Bill you can show up at is an icon because there are no clock there if. You know so we have been doing Burchill of men like many other folks one called a couch party where we brought in 89 and other amazing talent like Trace rock back you know g.d.p. To have conversations about voting and push voter registration so people are thinking again about a month before the election and you know and so people know that we were with them every step of the way and ever since then you know we have been working with you know a number of different folks like the birthdays but they're really popular I mean live battle theory we partnered with Monica and brandy on that voter registration and you know we did the group picnic with 5 names and where we. Where we made it all about is that we're all about boating economy 10 special with a need where you know the whole idea where Kevin Hart another but bodie and now we're working with Le Bron James is more than a go and we're doing it you know early boat activity in the state I mentioned earlier where. We're having you know food out for people to come and celebrate in but in a way you know so. You know Kobe has had a huge impact in the way that people are wreaking out the individual about registering him but at the same time you know it's then also an opportunity to be really innovative about how and creative about how you are you know talking and rethink out to people about registering getting out to vote and how much does educating the people who are registering to vote or who are already registered educating them so they understand all the different intricacies based on their particular place election laws how important as I've been to educate them on all of that especially as people are using different ways because of the pandemic to vote this year oh it's so critical and you know we know that voters Ah then are sometimes felt a little confused because the information was either changing really rapidly and there's a war they were having you know I think they broke maybe by mail or they're very far so we've been extremely focused on making sure that one that we're getting accurate information out in debate rules and to where we're also making sure that we're keeping ourselves there that we are where all we're able to be a resource resource for individuals and you know a lot of times what you're seeing is that there could be more information Fred about you know people asking. Our building when we all go has had that in our answer and that we should let me along as other you know in local elected office and you know even better really should be doing everything we can be able to ensure that people have every opportunity an option to be able to cast their ballot whether that I mail or going to vote early what you're really encouraging individuals to do there's still time if you do have early vote in your state or so far less than days you feel comfortable doing so you know a lot of these polling places and. You know local saying they're doing everything they can. To ensure that they're practicing. You know social distancing and following c.d.c. Guidelines and that inch screen really critical at a time the people you know are not sure if it's a go out there but we're encouraging everyone. But it does not cover routine dental vision and hearing I'm less asthmatic necessary so there begs the question well what's medically necessary if you have a black home are cataracts and you need surgery that's medically necessary but it doesn't cover you know deteriorate and there's an enormous eyeglasses and things like that but most importantly and I'm sure you know that it does not cover long term care right Medicare stepped out of Long Term Care decades ago and so that's more as it pertains to custody all care you might think Alzheimer's are dimentia you know with your activities of daily living you need to play and for long term care Medicare does not provide any assistance with that right in the till people because long term care planning is part of my process that I use for clients because whether you have insurance or however you decide to cover it is something that needs to be covered as health care costs are going to be there if you're there and it's amazing how many people fake automatically that Medicare will cover the cost of a living facility and it does not yet and it only covers that which is for rehabilitative purposes killed there are some facilities after a stay in a hospital correct and then once you're from the recuperating to the maintenance phase that's when they come with the discharge papers and say See you later right and that's when you thank God you have asked Brad and have figured out a way to plan for that that's right that's right now what's new for 2021 what makes 2021 different than other years so I'm so glad to be able to discuss this the big thing for 2021 is the cost of insulin and it's called the end salon senior saver model the current. And has been real aggressive was trying to help seniors with the cost of their insulin so there are certain insulins certain brain that will be $35.00 a month through all the phases of the drug coverage whether it is before your deductible after your deductible during your initial stage in the catastrophic coverage and after that donut hole that is huge Brad I have customers that are painful or $5600.00 a month for insulin or not taken at night because they can't afford it and this is just such a huge game changer so I have contacted all my customers that I know are on insulin and I said Ok this is what we can do or this is comparable to this praying and contact your doctor and see if that's something that you could be a candidate for and we've switched on to those plans so listen to this there are some I think $23.00 Advantage plans on our county only 3 of them participate in that insulin savings plan there are $32.00 standalone drug plans and our county there's only 10 that participate in that insulin savings plan so definitely contact a trusted broker to give them a list of your drugs that you're on if it's an Advantage plan that list of the doctors that you're on and make sure you're on one of those plans that work with that formulary that do the insulin savings and that your doctor except well I think this just dovetails with so many things I say on the show is that it's like retirement planning you want to deal with the financial advisor who specializes in retirement planning you don't need to deal with a funny just sales person Ok if they've come up with a solution for you right away with hardly dig in deep and they already know what they want to do with your money then you're dealing with a financial salesperson well same with Medicare. We have a lot of federal employees here that are in the thrift saving plan and in Huntsville in north Alabama they don't qualify for this exception so if you already start to think about pulling from your employer plan to help the child or grandchild that's not the place to go what we're really talking about is your Ira But getting back to the basics remember your Ira exist to save for your retirement so making sure that you're not using it to solve all the problems in your family and in your life it's about your retirement now there are things you can do as a mention about college for kids and grandchildren but sometimes even though it's available to happen in your Ira may not be in your best interest so I want to cover basic strategies to help clients help their children and grandchildren that are going to jeopardize their own retirement secure. So one thing is start small in fact your grandchildren are great place to start star teaching them early about saving in the advantages of saving and that they don't need to spend everything they get in fact there's nothing wrong with when your child makes the money and gets money for gifts some of that out put it in a savings account that's what I do for my stepchildren is we started when they get that gift money to lend it out I did that with much children so that's one way when they get a summer job why not fund an ira with part of that money there and money so look it start their own are a early in showing them the value of savings now grandparents when you're sitting there thinking about your children there's no rule that says the money that goes into an Ira has to come from their wages it just has to come from earnings so if you're going to give gifts why not give them a gift to help fund their are a if you really want to help them I think a contribution to an Ira in retirement account may have a lot more lasting use and lasting benefit for them so think about that teach him to save but start small the 2nd is if they have a job that has a company plan encourage them a participate in look at that match as earning when an employer is offering that match that's money he's allocated to pay them so even if they can only contribute up to the maximum matching amount they should do that in fact everybody should do that if you're not contributing in your 4 a one k. And taking advantage of all that match you money you are leaving money on the table you really are so sometimes you get is exactly say you got to do a check up from the neck up because I've been in employers and were coaching their employees. Savings and you know implementing a 41 k. And you get of employees that come to the meeting well I just can't afford to put any money in my retirement account now and you look outside they've got a truck to pry has a $4500.00 a month car payment on it well sometimes people need to get their priorities in order watch out for retirement plan leakage don't be Robin from your retirement plan every time you need some extra money don't be taken for one k. Loans when you don't have to you know things like that if you are not covered under employer plan make sure you did. Welcome back today we're going to talk about retirement challenge and like get a picture of this analogy and that is our financial life and really our life is almost like climbing a mountain we make preparations we go through training we get the right. Who'll do all the right things to climb that mountain as so many professional mountain climbers do and oftentimes people think well when I get to the top of that mountain then I've accomplished my objective will actually have it because coming down the mountain safely is just as important as going up the mountain and as I mentioned on my show before most of the casualties climb in you know big peaks like Mount Everest are happening on the way down because they've so prepared for on the way that they're not preparing for all the things that are happening on the way down you know fatigue the fact that they've expended a lot of their supplies things like that so having the right plan to get you not only up the mountain but down the mountain is really critical and most people look at retirement planning in 2 phases the accumulation phase and that's that part of your life where you're working you're building up assets and then the distribution phase that's where you're coming down the mountain you just want to make sure you don't outlive your money but there's one phase in the middle there that's really critical and that's the preservation phase because that interim phase between the accumulation and distribution is when you're start shifting things into different asset classes to make sure that when you go into retirement that you're set up in the right way and I know in other shows I've covered my bucket plan and I'll be doing that other future shows not going to get into that today and that's basically just how to set up buckets for different time frames you know 05 years 6 to 10 years 10 to $1515.00 plus but the key and that's what So the money can work in the way it's supposed to but as I'm talking about the preservation face that's when you're shifting from making your money by earning it and making your money by. You the returns on your investment and also on one hand when you're earning the money you're saving as well as paying your living expenses but on the other hand on the distribution end everything's coming out of your savings and investments outside of whatever your pension or Social Security. And when we look at what historically has happened my parents' generation you pretty much you work for a company and you got a pension and majority of people in the country were covered by some sort of defined benefit retirement plan by a defined benefit what I mean is they're going to pay you based on longevity in salary a certain amount in retirement for as long as you live now you may get a a survivor option on that so that your wife or husband continues to get a check watched you passed on but that's considered defined benefit well few years ago that shift started happening from defined benefit of defined contribution and that's where you put aside money in the company may put aside money if you're lucky to put aside money in your retirement account and really they've shifted the risk of investment returns over to you and the longevity risk is now in your hands and not with the company so you've got to keep that in mind you've also got to look at the fact that Social Security's changing and the issue we're having now is is there going to be enough money in there because you can go to the Social Security dot gov website s.s.a. Dot gov And there's even a blip in there that tells you the financial issues that they're having you know back in the 1950 s. You had like 16 workers for every recipient of benefits Well now we're just over 3 . Now quite frankly if an insurance company was run like Social Security the regulate. Would have put them out of business a long time ago because what they're relying on is current contributions and taxes and such to fund previous beneficiaries not what's been put in reserve but largely in the future not not quite yet but we're getting there that it's going to take all the new money to fund everything because they're beginning to hit the point where the assets in Social Security are going to start Wendling very quickly and that's going to present problems so you've got to look at retirement in that way as you're planning for retirement I think it's real critical to take into account things like government debt and how much it's gone up and along in medium term interest rates have been kept low so we've got some demographic issues that are really going to come into play and when you really break it down there's 3 main dates on the calendar that are going to be significant they'll be significant in that on January 1 2008 that's the 1st day that a baby boomer turned 62 which means he qualified for so Security benefits or early Social Security distributions so when they take it or not they still qualify the 2nd date was January 1st 2011 and that's the date the 1st boomer turned 65 and qualified for full retirement benefits so those are some big days and that's changing what Social Security is doing because all the sudden now we've got all this money coming out and you know that's going to be. Major issue as a store spending down so we got on January 1st 2008 that's when that 1st baby boomer turned 62 January 1st 2011 that's when that 1st baby boomer turned 65 so. Remember those days and they have driven a lot of things because when those 1st baby boomers start to take it so security that spiked up which means that the government had more expenditures and so when the government gets to the point where it's too much well they're going to have to increase taxes and the 2nd tax is rollbacks which is not really a tax so much as it is a reduction of benefit so it's kind of like what you see in the grocery store they may not have raised the price on the box of cookies but maybe now instead of 40 cookies there's only 35 or 30 for the same price as kind of hell rollback works paying the same price but you're not getting quite as much and so that's another way you know another way that's a hidden taxation is inflation that's an insidious way the government robbed from us is by inflating the money supply and decreasing its value and so that's kind of that stealth tax that we've got to look at and we look at taxes there's been a lot of talk about roll the tax rates back Well personally I think our corporate tax rates were too high but from an individual standpoint believe it or not we're in a really low tax situation in this generation you go back to the fifty's and the way taxes were I read a good story recently about Ronald Reagan and you know he was a very popular movie star and at that time the top tax rate was 88 percent federal and then he lived in California I think there was a 5 percent tax there so once he hit that bracket which I think was like $100000.00 then he paid basically 92 percent tax rate and so the interview that I read that he did were he was talking about the fact that he made about $50000.00 a movie and he would make 2 movies a year. Or and that was it and then he took the other 6 months off you know spend 6 months making a movie and then he take the other 6 months off because he made another movie made another 50000 dollars 92 percent it was going to go to taxes so why work and that's the perverse incentives that too high it puts on productivity is that people just say why should I And so that's something we've got to consider because tax rates are going to go up on an individual basis and we've got to pay for Social Security we pay for all these benefits so looking Ed climb in the mountain and I'm not going to be able to get into everything I wanted to get into today but when we look at climbing the retirement mountain you've got to factor in interest rate risk and right now we're in a very low interest rate environment diligence savers have been paralyzed because they haven't got anything on their money that money they want to put in the bank to retain it preserve it has not got any return so they've been more inclined to fund the stock market because they're taking money and put it risk and yield they would have done before so looking at that interest rate risk looking sequence the returns are risk and that is when your returns happen when you're taking money out of your retirement account has a very very strong bearing on whether you'll outlive your money or not so remember that you know you've got your sequencer return risk you've got interest rate risk so all these things come into play when you're climbing that retirement mountain so it's not about just planning for the climb it's about the descent 2 and that retirement you want to make sure that descent is all about not out living your money in retirement that's the key. The lower bowl I mean that's where everyone wants to be that's where everyone's used to being over the past couple years but what is available for folks down below the red football in the lower bowl sure and it's going to be unique because we're pushing in the 1st 7 rows what they call the telescopic seats create a barrier between the fans and the courts so so we're losing roughly $1300.00 seats before we even start and my last count is about $280.00 seats total when the lower bowl whereas triple that is our normal lower bowl season ticket base and that's what for we even get into the allotment that we get to our students are very limited lower Bowl seating. Quite a few individuals will be will be moved to the upper bowl if they choose to do so you know when we're going through the seating process here we've been 100 percent transparent and saying that if you want to opt in and then you you see what's available during your seat selection Tom in say hey we love the Jags we just don't want to sit where we're seats are a bit well you know we love you back and we'll see you next year Ok so. What's funny is I want to say this is well it's not just the folks in the seats that are different folks like me you will be different I won't be right up courtside I'll actually be removed and I think we're up on a riser now so look at different for everybody you've already sent out the information for opt in opt outs for those who have opted in what's the next up we've got a website out there similar to what we use for football where you can see what seats are available what seats already been taken and we hope to wrap it up in the next the end of next week and then sometime around the 15th 16th have everything mailed out ahead of November 25th sort so if folks have opted out is there anything they can do tomorrow absolutely So they're listening. It is an agencies that support our families on a daily weekly basis you know whether it be financial support emotional support and we you know when you take a step back and you're like wow you have all the support in the community you know let's let's bring it together and that's really kind of what helped foster and planted the seed of the canteen support group and just really having that regular meeting time for parents for pre-teens and Archie majors who are going through cancer treatment and having them to have about one stop every month to just meet together be together and navigate together the other side of diagnosis an illness that you maybe don't think about is the family and what they're going through emotionally and things like that how does can seem kind of do you guys need that it was covert it might be a little difficult to meet in person but how does can seem actually occur yes because a coded We're obviously having to do things virtual at the moment so there will be monthly to meetings so we'll have a popcorn for the parents to meet privately in their own to meeting and then we'll have our pre-teens who are 9 to 12 will be able to meet in their own zoo meeting and then our teenagers from 13 to 18 will be able to also meet in their own 2 meeting so for those wanting to find out more about canteen or maybe get involved in actually participating canteen how can they do that yeah sure so we actually if you go to our support group on the USA Health website you'll actually be able to find our calendar it's going to be under our event page there you can check out Instagram there's information of it on there as well Bowker's also prop form we've got the actual events created for the different groups for the pre-teens and teens and for the parents so you can find information on their parents are able to actually e-mail me directly to register and then I can then send them the information and the thing link so then they can get directly connected. Shut down all on campus recruiting so but it does make for a nice face time tour you know when you show guys videos of it in the social media aspect of it looks really. I would like you like you had mentioned earlier so it's going to do nothing but help no question about it I mean how could it not it's a beautiful building and everything the guys need are right here under one roof we do have you here for a purpose coach we're going to be doing pick I'm with you here in just a moment have about 5 marquee games including some ranked teams the number one team in America going to number 4 Notre Dame will pick that one here in just a moment but back to this facility it's you know it's hard to exploit how nice it is but the fact that you've got a you've got a locker room it's nice these players even have their own area where they can go and play games they can play ping pong they have a nutrition center as well absolutely it's you know it's very player friendly which is what we wanted. You know today's day and age with the recruiting. You know facilities are huge in the sun but we have some programs of some really nice facilities but kids are really. You know they're fine with the field as long as the service is nice and ours is in the stadium and they don't care many clubs we have been but what they're really looking at is you know where can they congregate where can they hit we have a great indoor at the Luis Gonzalez indoor heating facility which was redone 3 years ago and now the brand new John Lever clubhouse so all the things that kids are looking at we have been we have a lot to offer as the ball gone practices the men are squats it's been it's been different all things considered j.t. It's been really productive we started a little bit later you know there was just so much uncertainty around the virus and things going on how would it be and who's going to come down with it what's the contact tracing like the ins and outs of it and just the policies and procedures and so we start a little bit later and I'm glad we did we had a couple guys just pause and then we had 7 in total and but the context racing is tough and we had a couple guys that were contact race twice and you know they missed 2 weeks and they were back for a while. We can then someone else got it that they were contact trace 2 in their midst another 2 weeks in but so luckily the last 6 weeks we've had 0 positives and it was a challenge there was a challenge there the month the September Challenge is pretty good with that but we have great people on campus that monitor that's monitoring that and give us the best up to date information that they can lead by Jeannie Frisbee administration has been phenomenal our guys have been phenomenal with it they've been very cooperative and you know that we paid attention to the to the policies and laws and we try to wear the mask as much as we can and acknowledge social distancing and just try to do our part to do things right for the community so we feel very fortunate that we're back out there playing a fall we're 80 percent done with it and we've got a lot of I've seen a lot of good things this fall you know and it seems like now to me 3 or 4 years ago but it was actually back in the spring we were heading up to play some conference baseball up at Georgia State we're not quite to Atlanta I think we pulled over for lunch in Greenville and the phone call came don't go to Atlanta come back and we thought well this this will simmer down in it up it shut down a whole season and it just seems like forever ago God it's it does it's just I knew when they canceled March Madness I knew this was more than a 2 week layoff for baseball you know we knew it was something serious it just happened so fast you know it went from 0 to 100 miles an hour so quickly excuse me and. Just things were happening but one thing one unbelievable thing superseded the next you just sat there in amazement going I can't believe this is this is what's going on I can't believe this is shutdown that shut down college baseball shut down they canceled the College World Series before we ever even knew that the season was shut down. So there are a lot of crazy things but you know cooler heads prevail which I'm a firm believer in and in most cases you know you just you can't go up and down with this because if you do. It'll tear you up so you know we try to do our part and listen to the powers that be and the most you know relevant information that comes in and we try to do our best to make things better and you know hopefully the people that are making decisions make the right decisions and you know because college athletics is a big deal sports in this country is a big deal and we need to do the best we can to get it up and running and back to full force you know I was excited as you were as your student athletes were I'm sure a lot of work went in on the conference level to some built team down in New Orleans had negotiated the Bizkit stadium there riverfront in Montgomery was going to be the host for the simple conference tournament was also going to be a chance to see the likes of great Nightingale go out and pitch and he's had to move on before we talk about Drake and pitch you know we'll have a chance to get back there but to have that inaugural year everybody was looking for good yeah that was exciting I was a huge advocate of neutral site in a pro park and. It is so competitive in baseball and we had conferences that are so to speak lesser conferences in overall r.p.i. And standings and they were playing at parks and we were still doing the you know the rotating fields in and have in different home sites so I just felt as though we needed to be at a neutral site. A place that the not only just the people that own the field but the community embraced the sun and the tournaments and Montgomery was that there were some outstanding venues that were that had bid it but. I'm very very excited to keep it in state and specially Montgomery. Moves on Ethan Wilson returns in May and what some press he's getting talked to me about you know great moving on when you've got a guy who leaves early obviously recruited the right athlete it was that he was a really good pitcher but also had an even back those 2 guys yeah you know for it was bittersweet you know Drake was done with school. New Drake was going to sign obviously last year before the covert it was his last year and he was going to go out and sign but he was thinking about getting his master's but he was graduating so he had been 5 years in schools 3 in junior college and 2 here and as you know he you know he wasn't getting any younger so. He's a pro pitcher is appropriate you're a pro athlete we knew that he's an outstanding pitcher here he's going to have a big year for us last year unfortunately cut short but. Yeah I'm very very proud of him of the opportunity that he got you know ultimately j.d. We you want the best for your players you want what they want the guys that work hard and do things right when they get an opportunity even if it doesn't fit your agenda I would be happy for what I like great Nightingale back here as long as I could absolutely was one of the best pitchers in the conference and one of the better ones we've had since I've been here but I'm happy for him he earned his right to play pro ball he did everything right on and off the field he graduated and he's going to get a masters in the Mets are going to pay for his grad school so super proud of him plays for a long time and stays healthy and because he's worthy of it Ethan Wilson you know he's he's deserving of the height East he's an outstanding player one of the best players in the country and. You know there's been a lot of hype around him after you know his freshman year is national freshman of the year and he's handled it so well that got off to a little bit of a slow start last year was really coming on at Arkansas and he was going to have a big year so yeah Ethan's one of the better players in the country one of the best hitters in the country the best hitters I've ever had in my 2728 years doing this and we've had some good ones so that's saying a lot and Ethan for as good as he is as a player and this saying is kind of trite overused but I'm telling you right now he's a better human being and teammate than he is a player which is which is really a tall compliment because he's such a good person and a player but he's just such an outstanding teammate an outstanding kid to coach and his mom and dad his family should be very very proud of him they've done a great job raising him any time I run into.
