moving freely on the outer loop lanes with no concern. that will continue on the southbound lanes of 795. from westminister 695 to 695 you are look at a clear trip. you want to be aware that congestion is starting to build on the southbound lanes of the vfjfx, to 695 you're looking atn 11 minut-minute trip. the u.s. senate decided to deny the funding to the non-profit group who has offices in baltimore and across the country. acorn received $11 million last year and was ill jeb t eligiblee for stimulus money but that is not going to happen. as it turns out, it could be the film surrounding the acorn scandal. a baltimore neighborhood is should shock after a man threatens a homeowner at gunpoint forcing him back inside his home. that homeowner turned out to be an off-duty police officer. joel d smith joins us with what happened next. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. this attacker did not nose that the victim was an off-duty police officer. he found quickly here in the 3600 block of glen arm avenue. the plan is now in critical condition after this undercover officer ran out of the home and then shot him. it all happened at the 3600 block of glen arm avenue around 6:00 yesterday afternoon. the off-duty officer was out of uniform when a man approached him and put a gun in his back and forcing him back inside of his home. he told him to get on the floor, but that is when police officer say this officer stopped taking orders. >> at that point he took his weapon and identified himself as a police officer and a short chase ensued. >> reporter: that chase ended at 5th avenue when they saw the officer using the gun. the police insist the other man did, too. they recovered a gun with shell casing to prove it. no one was hurt inside of the home. the alleged attacker is in critical condition after being shot several times. they will not reveal the aidty of the alleged attacker but he has a criminal record. as when a police officer is involved in a shooting, the police officer is on administrative leave. joel d smith, fox 45 morning news. a victim turns the tables on his attacker and stabs them to death with a sam rye sward. a resident of the home was could not confronted by a suspect that, is when he grabbed the sword and stabbed the to death. the incident is under investigation. court transcripts reveal developer ronald lipscomb may have paid for a political poll for another baltimore official. ronald lessster told the grand jury he that did work for carter. carter's campaign paid him with a check for nea nearly $9,000 id from lipscomb company. lipscomb was accused of paying for a political poll for helen holton. he agreed to a plea deal back in june. he had the time of his life. dirty dancing star, patrick swayze has lost of the day and for most of the latter part of the morning and into the early afternoon before the clouds begin to move on in. we look at the bigger picture and you will see that we do some showers down toward the tennessee valley area, mishiss valleymississippi valley, the gf moisture is coming our way and bringing on stream shore that will contribute through showers once you get past today or at least overnight tonight and into the next few days after that. let's see the surface features, this is what is happening. the frontal bon he drey i boundo sag to the south. you see onshore pressure and also the moisture governing up from the gulf and together we will see the rain chance continuing for the next few days. as far as when you can expect the earlier showers to move in by tomorrow, we could have a light shower overnight tonight, but really a little bit more in the way of a shower that is more noticeable by the afternoon tomorrow according to 2:00 p.m. by tomorrow. we will see the repeated chances in the evening and also by thursday and even into friday, i think. can't rule rout a shower on saturday. how much rain are we going to see? take a look. we about .10 of an inch expected, a little bit more as you head to d.c. .30 of an inch there. here is what we are looking at temperature wise, 67 degrees temperature for baltimore, 55 in oakland, down toward salisbury, 66 as well. mild temperatures as you head out this this morning, but we're headed into the 70s. a mix of sun and clouds. west wind of 5-10 miles an hour. the central part of the state should climb to 85 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. more sun later with a northwest wind at 5-10 miles per hour. further points west looking at a high temperature of 85 degrees with the early sun followed by clouds streaming in later in the day. as far as tonight goes, temperatures will drop to 64 degrees, some overnight showers are possible be but they would be rather light and clouds certainly present through the overnight and through tomorrow when you see a better chance of showers. high of 74, cooler as well. 73 degrees on thursday, a better chance of still, and then 77 degrees on friday, can't rule out and 62 for the south side of 95 there in howard county. now we do have a disabled car in the southbound lanes of 895 there at the harvard tunnel that you do want to watch out for. as we make the push up to the northeast corridor of 95, better news, a little bit of congestion as we take a look at whitemarsh. you can see a little bit of congestion is developing in the southbound lanes, but nothing to be alarmed of at this time. as we hop over on to the beltway, no problems to report from parkville to towson. as we make our way to the west side we take a live look to liberty road. you see cars what is happening temperature wise. we have temperatures in the mid-60s. 67 degrees in baltimore, in baltimore and d.c. 56 in hagerstown. 55 out in oakland, chillier in the mountain as you typically see. high pressure is controlling our weather still at least for a while as the high pressure sits over us. it does give us plenty of sunshine as to tart the day -- start the day with clear skies and look for more clouds through the afternoon as we get more the easterly flow bringing onshore moisture and also from the south we get some clouds moving, too. that will set the stage for some showers by tomorrow, and as again the chance for showers increase in the overnight period into tomorrow and as well for thursday and friday. we will talk more about that a little bit later. today 85 degrees and we should see our share of sun and clouds, at least the sunshine to start before the clouds move in later at least that is the start to the day. let's see what is happening on the roadways now with lauren cook. she has the traffic edge. >> reporter: thanks, steve. if you are traveling on the east corridor of 95, you're in the clear. as we take a look at 95 and 43. you can see the cars are moving on the southbound lanes just fine. if you're traveling from mountain road to 695, it should take you about 10 minutes, and i do want to tell you about a little bit of trouble that we're having at the fort mchenry tunnel. there's a disabled car on the northbound lanes and it's blocking one toll lane. still it should take you 7 minutes to get through the tubes. as for the harvard tunnel no concerns that you have a 6-minute ride. no concern for the tunnels, patrice, back to you. thank you, lauren. the u.s. senate votes to deny funding to acorn group. the are group giving tax advice to two people posing as a mitch and a prostitute. some of the video was shot in baltimore's acorn office and made public. now the film makers are constitutional righcriticizing s being covered. >> reporter: james o'keefe posed as the pimp while his friend hanna giles posed as a prostitute. they conducted the investigation because they say mainstream media failed to hold the government accountable. you have seen the video from here, but now there's a new one from brooklyn, new york. listen to this. now these kind of videos, they're similar to the ones that have made their way out, have made their way into every news outlet, but the film maker say they're upset with how the story is being covered. >> you are pimping. >> she is very honest. >> what you just heard was actually video from the hidden cameras there. some the film makers, they're saying that they're upset with how it's being covered. they're hoping that this will show that acorn is at fault. we did ask mayor sheila dixon and governor o'malley their thoughts on the matter. in both cases, we are told they hadn't seen the video. mayor sheila dixon say, they have quote, pulled a lot of support given to acorn in the past. for the workers shown in the video here have been fired and could face criminal charges. despite the firings, an acorn spokesperson says it's all a sham. we will have more on that part of the story. megan gilliland, fox 45 morning news. a man is in critical condition after holding an off-duty police officer in his home. neighbors are trying to digest what they saw. joel d smith is live at the neighborhood. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. we're at the 2600 block of glen arm avenue. at 1:00 yesterday afternoon, this off-duty out of uniform police officer was near his home and just felt a gun put in his back and he was forced back inside of his home. once inside he was told to lie on the ground. maybe this person, this alleged attacker didn't know he was dealing with a cop, because while on the ground, the officer grabbed his own gunned, identified himself as an officer and tried on to arrest his attacker. the man ran out of the home and the officer was behind him and it ended with a chase and gunfire. galloway is the neighborhood watch cat in the area. >> the cop disappeared. the one that was being chased was running hard. the other guy was walking, walking and shooting. >> reporter: galloway says he only saw the officer doing the shooting. investigators have covered the shell casings in the other man's gun and it had been fired as well. no one was hurt inside of the home. the alleged attacker is in critical condition. he was shot a few times by the officer. now the officer on administrative leave, as it happens in a case like this. they would not reveal the identity of the alleged attacker but he has a lengthy record, that is includes breaking and entering and attacking a police officer. joel d smith, fox 45 morning news. police are searching for a gunman that involved a shooting no northeast baltimore. offers were called to the home. a man was shot in the temple. he was rushed to the hospital. there's no word on his condition. a teenager charged with raping a 7-year-old in crofton is going to be tried as an adult. a judge decided that it could pose a threat to the. part of decision came to the fact that the teen admitted that his actions were wrong. several experts testified that he has an autism disorder and learning disabilities. he is facing 19 charges and is scheduled for trial by the end of the month. it's not quite flu season yet but you wouldn't know it by the number of cases at the maryland university. 500 students have reported flu symptoms since classes started. that tally includes suspected cases of swine flu along with the seasonal flu. not every student was tested for the virus and fortunately many of the cases have already cleared up. still to come up, it's the collapse that sparked the ( piano music patrice. it gets cloudier but it starts off with clear skies. hd radar, we can see not a whole lot, much like yesterday. it's going to be a dry one for the majority of day and entire day. shower chances don't come until overnight tonight and that will be light showers then. we will talk about that in a moment. more significant rain as we get into later wednesday and even more so on thursday. right now we are looking at the expanded picture showing the showers that to the north up in new england and down toward tennessee and mississippi valley. can you see the activity and the moisture headed on the gulf and headed in our direction as we get an or shore flow. we will get a moisture conversion that will bring showers in the next several days. clear skies in the harbor, sketch degrees and the -- skean degrees an67 degrees and the wie calm. the dew point is at 57 degrees. nice and dry, take a look at the temperatures, not too bad as you head out. 67 degrees in baltimore, the same for d.c. in salisbury and 66 in oakland, and 55 degrees as we always typically see the cooler air move in there. high pressure will be sitting over us. it will bring a more easterly flow around it, and as it moves in our direction, it will bring as i said, increase chances of showers, especially as we look at the stationary boundary. that front is going to move in from the north will sag as a backdoor cold forgotten. it will sit to the south, it will bring the opportunity for moisture right over it and repeated chances of showers not just for today, not just for overnight tonight but more so on tuesday, wednesday and friday. today it looks fine later in the day. expect more cloud cover later in the afternoon, start up with more sun. 84 degrees for the high, and 84 degrees with 10 miles an hour. for the central part of the state, expect to get up to 85 degrees with a good deal of sunshine to start and a good deal of clouds for the afternoon or evening. more sun to start and more clouds are moving in later in the day. you get the general picture, 85 degrees for the high there. northwest winds 5-10 miles an hour. tonight, 54 degrees the overnight low. lots of cloud cover, southeast wind at 5 miles per hour. in come the chances of light showers overnight. after midnight then, and then tomorrow the better chance of some rain. again, enjoy it, because this is the last warm, dry day. 75 degrees, 81 at 6:00 p.m., at least for this week the last warm day. we may see 80s again. 74 degrees for the high tomorrow, cooler, shower chances, increase especially as we get into to be heavy from lombard street. you can use 95 or the key bridge as your alternate route. and as we push up to the northeast corridor of 95, taking a live look of 95 at 43, we see a little bit of buildup starting to form on the southbound lanes but nothing of concern. we do have an accident on middle river. this is going to be at middle river road at martin boulevard that you're going to watch out for. better news as you make your way on to the beltway, it's going to be smooth sailing up to t towso. no concerns as you make your way up toward beltway, that will continue. no problems to think a lot of economists are being encouraged to say that. i think if you talk to small business owners, you're going to find out that they're senses that we're not. a a lot of small retail sales are still down and still suffering. if you look at the fact that the unemployment rate is going up, not going down, that wouldn't tell me that we're coming out. that would tell me that we still have a structural problem that we're dealing with. >> let's talk about some the reforms that president obama is putting into place to make sure that what happened a year ago doesn't happen again. part of what he said is create a new agency that is supposed to protect consumers. there's a lot of push back from banks that say that is going to impact us. that is not going to be such a good thing. >> what he is talking about a consumer financial agency which would be an umbrella regulartory agency that would work with other regulartory agencies in the financial industry. the industry wants to be left alone to do what they want to do. >> should that happen, though, even though of what has happened in the past? >> i think as i said the president's speech yesterday, the words of john pope paul came to mind. he came to baltimore back in the '90s and he said when this country was headed. he said you and america need to spend more time thinking about what you should do and not what you're able to do. one of the reasons that we got in trouble is that there were plenty of things that we were able to do but should not have done. this was true in the finance industry. this was true in the individual level and in the mortgage industry. as long as that behavior continues to persist and as long as people are left alone to again engage in that behave. we're not going to get out of that very concerned about that. if you talk to people about whether or not they feel secure in their jobs or not. i think people feel less secure. we may not be feeling verbalization to that concern, but the concern is out there. >> what do we need to do? what do we need to do to start reforming the he industry? if not what the president is suggesting or along with what he is suggest? what needs to happen. >> i think it starts with individual behavior and starting at the top and working down with the people who manage the organization. >> that seems like it could be a hard sell. if those people comes after the non-profit group was caught on camera offering tackyvation tips to a man posing a pimp and a woman posing as a prostitute. acorn defense goes on the offense. megan gilliland joins us some of the videos and they have started a nationwide review of their local offices. while acorn says that the videotapes were doctored. although acorns that threatened to sue the film makers, it won't bring the funding that they have lost. megan gilliland, fox 45 morning news. a northeast baltimore neighborhood is still in shock after a man allegedly threatens a homeowner at gunpoint forcing him back inside of his own house. that home inne homeowner turnede an off-duty police officer. joel d smith joins with us what happened next, good morning joel. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. this alleged attacker did not know he was dealing with an off-duty cop, he soon found ought. police say that the man is in critical condition after being chased out of the house by this off-duty police officer, and then shot. it all happened at the 3600 block of arm avenue yesterday at 1:00. the off-duty officer was out of uniform when a man approached him and stuck a gun in his back forcing back inside of his home. he was then told to get on the floor which he did, bus police say that -- but police say that when this officer stopped taking orders. >> he identified himself as a police officer and the short chase ensued. >> reporter: that chase ended a few blocks from here where some witnesses say they saw the officer shooting a gun. police say the other man did, too and they recovered a gun and shell casings that prove it. no one was hurd inside of the home. -- hurt inside of the home. won again the man is in critical condition who was shot by this officer who was off-duty. police won't identified the person who was shot, the alleged attacker but he does have a lengthy criminal record of breaking and entering and attacking a police officer. the neighbors say this never happens, because this happened in this way, maybe it deters further crime from coming to this neighborhood. joel d smith. court transcripts reveal that developer ronald company may have paid for another -- lops company malipscomb may havr another polling. carter says she never had a poll done for anything. lipscomb was accused of paying for a public opinion poll for city councilwoman helen holton in exchange for her this securing breaks for his company. the move follows a july no confidence vote by leaders of the state republican party. they accuse him of criticizing elected republicans and becoming involved in policy matters instead of raising money and registering voters. he had previously said he would not step down. the public commission begins hearings to the proposed deal by constellation to sell almost half of its nuclear business. the hearing started yesterday and will last all week. the deal with french company will allow him to construct a nuclear react in calvert cliffs. but some lawmakers say the deal should only be approved if they call for regulating the industry and they want bge to lower the rates by 15%. >> the consumers are getting a bad deal here. we're not seeing new plants being built. >> if this transaction does not allow to press forward there won't be a 3rd nuclear unit at calvert cliffs. it just can't happen. >> they should someone's voice without their consent. megan gillilandment fox 45 5 morning. it happened yesterday in northeast baltimore where neighbors are still trying to digest what they heard and saw. joel d smith is live in that neighborhood this morning with the latest. good morning, joel. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. just an all-american neighborhood, very quiet this morning. we're seeing kids starting to walk to the bus stop and get on to school. it was a far different scene yesterday at 1:00 in the afternoon. that is when police say a man showed up at an off-duty officer's home and took a gun in his back and forced him back inside. once inside, he was then forced on the ground with the officer. the man may not have known that he was deal with cop at the time, because while on the ground, the investigators grabbed his own gun, and identified himself as an officer and tried to attack his attacker. the man ran out of the house. with the officer close behind, the chase ended a few blocks from here with gunfire in the 2,000 block of white avenue, near garry galloway's home. gar owe wahome. galloway was is the neighborhood's watch captain in the area. >> the other guy was walking and shooting. >> reporter: galloway says he only saw the officer shooting, but investigators say they have recovered shell casings and they have also found the other gun used in this case. balancistic's tests will prove what they think happened here as guns were fired in both cases. no one was hurt inside of the home in this block, but the alleged attacker was shot a number of times by the police officer. is now in critical condition. police have not identified him as of yet are but they do say he as an extensive criminal history including breaking and entering and attacking a police officer in the past. as in a case like this where an officer is involved in a shooting he is now in administrative leave. joel d smith. fox 45 morning news. officers were called to the 300 block of east university parkway just before 1:30 this morning. a resident of the home was confronted by an untrueder. officers say that is when he grabbed the sword and cut off the intruders hands and caused a severe laceration to the upper body. he died at the scene. it is under investigation. an anne arundel county judge decided that sending the 17-year-old boy to a juvenile facility could pose a threat to the public. this came as part of the fact that the teen admitted his actions were wrong. he has an autism disorder and learning disabledz. he is facing 19 charges and is scheduled for trial at end of the month. baltimore police officers express concern after learning that the city cut most of as auxiliary unit. a year ago more than 30 volunteers were serving bou -- t now it's down to 10. since the auxiliary officers are not paid, there's little cost to the city. now they are calling the police commissioner to answer questions about what happened to the auxiliary unit. >> my biggest question is why are we turning away people that want to voluntary their time to make our city better is safer, why? >> a police county spokesman said it was discovered some the officers were involved in criminal activity so they were all told to reapply for their positions. many with clear records, claim their attempts to be reinstated have ignored. kanye west could be banned from all mtv start with you. >> i don't know if it's a smear campaign, but these incidents appears to be quite isolated not only in baltimore but also in the state of washington. i'm surprised that these issues have surfaced for acorn which is a great, great group. it does a great job in terms of getting people housing and so forth, but i can't imagine that they would participate in this kind of an issue dealing with brothel and prostitutes and so forth. >> let me bring in delegate mcdonough. you heard delegate branch say that acorn does great work. should we assume that the behavior of these four employees is the way acorn is run or should it on those employ ployies. >> they are the lower ranks of an organization. they wouldn't in a million years give advice on how to avoid taxes if that is not sanctioned. but the lady at the top made a comment which the son talked about, where she said no laws were broken. give me a break, a lot of laws were broken. the u.s. prosecutor in maryland has to look into this very vigorously. the similar incident happened in washington d.c. there have been 14 investigations so far of acorn across the united states including one investigation where the acorn employees have cited corruption within the organization. and congressman made a statement when he squashed the federal investigation when he said he got word from above. well, who is above? >> i don't necessarily think that this was ordered from the top. i think basically, that you have people at the lower ranks that are doing things on their own accord that are trying their best to help people to get necessary housing, but this is not the right way when you're using -- allowing people to do this for prostitution or so forth. i don't think that is a call from above. i think that the higher-up within the organization and the leadership of this group should begin to train those individuals that are work at these lower levels and in these lower offices to make sure that they are not the video and has started a nationwide review of its local offices. a northeast baltimore neighborhood is still in shock after a man allegedly threatened a homeowner at gunpoint forcing him back happened here yesterday at 1:00 in the afternoon, 3600 block of glen arm avenue. like you said, someone outside of his own home turned out to be an off-duty hey police officer out of uniform. put back into his home allegedly and forced back inside. inside is when he stopped taking orders. he got back on the ground and got his own gun and chased this person out of his home and a few blocks ended up shooting this alleged attacker a few times. he is in critical condition and the officer is on administrative leave. we're talking to neighbors to get their take on things. there's questions of whether cloud cover later in the day but all in all it should be a decent day with the temperatures climbing to the mid-80s. sky watch hd radar not looking half bad. in fact, it's not looking bad at all. as you look to the south, the mississippi valley seeing showers there. even then, it's on the light side. nevertheless, the moisture from that area, and atlantic moisture is going to converge and bring us a chance of showers. that is going to bring clouds together. 69 degrees at inner harbor, winds not a factor. 69% relative humidity. and the 68 is the dew point number. and you check out the temperatures. 69 degrees in baltimore, and 68 in salisbury. 66 in hagerstown, only 59 in oakland. and our high pressure is going to bring us this pretty decent start to the day. eventually the high moves off to the east. the frontal boundary back to the front as it moves in here and brings us a chance of showers, it looks like more so for tomorrow afternoon, but there could be a light shower overnight tonight as the front approaches. again, you see the moisture coming up from the south and moisture coming from the east. it converges and we get a chance of some showers. that frontal boundary will begin to sit there and as it does to south t will sit and set up a zone for warm air to move over the cooler air. we will get the moisture that produces repeated chance of showers for the next few days, once again into the wednesday, thursday and friday. meanwhile today looks decent. 84 degrees in the eastern shore. more clouds late in the day and for the central part of the state, going to be the same scenario with the sunshine early and then more clouds as we move along here. 85 degrees a degree better. northwest wind at 5-10 miles per hour. back to the west the central part of the state where we get to 85 degrees with the sun followed by more cloud cover. tonight look for lots of clouds and 65 degrees the overnight low. again there could be some showers but they tend to be light overnight tonight. look for more shower activity tomorrow and even more so on thursday. cool air, though, starts to move in for wednesday. 74 degrees for the high. 77 on friday, can't rule out a shower through friday and saturday, note a lesser chance at 50 and 40% respectively. 75 degrees for both saturday and monday with a mix of sunshine and clouds. iradar is available at look at this, 19 miles on the west side of the beltway and we're up to gay on the south side of 95 at howard county. we do have trouble to report in glen burnie an accident there. that is going to be on route 10 at east furnace branch road that you want to watch out for. the crane highway not looking like a bad alearn tiv alternati. we do have delays due to a car that has been moved from the scene. taking a live look at the whitemarsh, no real concerns at this time. travel on the northbound end and southbound lanes, cars are just cruising right along. no worries in that area. we do have delays as we make our way to the beltway, that going to be on the outer loop lanes from parkville to towson and from so youto so you towson to . it's going to be a little bit of a slow go on the outer is an award-winning actor who was born and raised on baltimore's eastside. as a howard county resident now charles sutton has stayed true to his baltimore roots in his latest chronicle. it's from jail to yale. it benefits women. and he is here with more. >> let's talk about your growing up in baltimore because that is kind of inspiration for the play. it wasn't so easy growing up for you? >> no. it was a long time ago, but i grew up in -- i grew up in -- born in west baltimore and moved to east. i lived the outlaw life for many, many years. actually spent time in every prison in the state of maryland with the exception of one and that was the institution called paxton. in those days there was only five major prisons in the state of maryland. now there's over 30. you can see the progression of how worse it got. i lived a knuckle head life for a long time. then when i was in prison, i read a play in 1972. i read this play, and put together a drama group of inmates. >> very interesting. >> and we performed the play at a talent show. that moment changed my life. i said i have just discovered what i was born to do. >> what was the play? >> the day called the day of absence. >> a lot of people started down going the knuckle head road as you said, but the they weren't e to make the transition like you did. what is the difference will? >> you have to want to do it, number one. you really have to want to do it, however, -- i know a lot of guys who have done it. >> uh-huh. >> but they're career isn't publipublicity oriented like mi. so these guys are carpenters, particularly my generation of guys. it took the point for me being tired of the life i lived. i already had a phd of thug life. i didn't need to learn anymore. i wanted to see what was on the other side of the fence. so once i decided to leave that life alone, it was the most difficult i ever did, because it was a lot of pull, a lot of peer pressure to step back over there. you no he, i said, let me try this. the last time in prison i spent 7 1/2 years. i said let me take 7 1/2 years of doing something positive and see what happens. the interesting thing, patrice, i spent 7 1/2 years in prison. it was 7 years and 8 months later when i was starring on broadway. >> that's incredible. >> yeah. >> that kind of gave me chills. all right, so talk about your latest play, the one man he show. >> the one man show actually is -- the only time i get to do it is for benefits and fundraisers. i get asked to do it on broadway all the time. i just don't have the time to make a six month commitment. >> okay. >> but it's a narrative of my life interspersed with a medley of sceneses and mon logs of all the great plays and playwrights that i perform particularly august wilson. it's a very informative evening. regardless of what you hear in press, you will hear the real story out of my mouth. >> all right. >> and with me playing different characters that i have done on broadway. >>
