>> well, franklin square hospital, johns hopkins hospital, recently changed the visitor policy to prevent against this virus that is now killed dozens of kids. the cdc said since friday, five more children across the country have died from swine flu. bringing the total number of pediatric deaths to more than 80. officials say while the majority of h1n1 deaths include people who have other medical conditions, many do not. that's why they stress the best way to prevent getting sick is vaccination. many parents agree. although some say they are not so sure. >> from what we have read so far. it is something that, you know, that the benefits outweigh the negatives. >> just that it is a new vaccination that hasn't been tested thoroughly and everything. so, you know, that's a little scary. >> and in most states, including maryland, only the flu mist version of the vaccine is being distributed. but cdc said soon more injectable vaccines will be available. we're live in east baltimore. myranda stephens, fox 45 news "late edition". >> okay myranda. for more information about the swine flu, just go to our website. foxbaltimore.com, and click on the swine flu outbreak icon. >> a pivotal step forward on health care reform today on capitol hill. samantha hayes reports from washington on support from a republican, and what president obama is saying about it. >> 14-had nine vote. the democratic health care reform bill won approval of the senate finance committee today. with surprise support from a republican. ahead of the vote senator olympia snowe has concerns about the bill but she would break from her party and vote in favor of it. >> so is this bill all that i would want from it? is it all that it can be? no. but when history calls, history calls. and i happen to think that the consequences of inaction dictate the urgency of congress to take every opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to solve the monumental issues of our time. >> president obama was cautious in his praise of the committee's vote. >> we are now on closer than ever before to passing health reform. but we're not there yet. now is the time to dig in and work harder to get this done. >> the senate finance committee is the 5th and final health care reform measure to be considered. its price tag, $829 billion over 10 years, is less than the $900 billion target set by president obama. it is the only bill that ditches the government funded public option in favor of non-federal health care coops. it requires that all americans have health insurance. opponents explain why they voted against it. >> this is the very costly bill. moderate as it is in the eyes of the democrats. it is not moderate. >> the bill must be merged with a second bill in the senate, and then potentially with legislation still taking shape in the house. in washington, i am samantha haze. >> as samantha said, despite the vote we're a long way away from a new health care reform law. the bill needs to be merged with another one in the senate. debated there and voted on by the full senate. the house has to merge their three bills and vote. and then both the house and senate have to agree on a single bill. if congress agrees on a single plan, it goes to the president for his signature. that brings us to the question of the day. do you support the health care reform plan? ( ding ) >> imagine waking up in the middle night to find your home had been burglarized while you slept. and then waiting over an hour for police to get there. maryland woman said the police took their time responding to her frantic 911 call. marine newman has more. >> well pulled off the screen, and pryed up the open window and climbed in. >> rebecca and her family were asleep when three suspects broke in. ransacking the home. stealing office equipment. electronics, money and 1 of the family's cars t happened in early september. rebecca immediately called 911 and was told to wait until an officer arrived. >> we went upstairs. and we waited. and then nobody showed up for quite some time. >> rebecca wants to know what went wrong. montgomery county police say they do too. >> we're treating it very seriously and as a formal complaint and internal investigation. >> captain paul starkes said there appears to be a breakdown in communication. rebecca first called to report the burglary, at 5:49 a.m. at 6:02 a sergeant gave permission to hold the call. stark said there could be several reasons why. >> it is the end of the midnight shift. and it is the beginning of the day work shift. so routinely routine calls are held. >> but the call wasn't routine because no one had searched the scene. stark said an officer was finally dispatched at 6:54. more than an hour after the initial call. >> we're looking at our protocol itself. our system. how we're doing things. and then, again, who received what information, at our 911 emergency call center. >> these three suspects have been arrested and charged in the case. rebecca said she is relieved and glad to have some of her stolendums back. but she worries about what happened. and the unsettling thought that help may not always be on the way. >> i am really hopeful it doesn't happen again. or that it would not happen to someone else. >> plans to start the murder trial of mark castillo are stalled because of castillo. the rockville man is accused of drowning his children in a baltimore hotel room. in court today it came out that castillo has repeatedly expressed suicidal thoughts and is being uncooperative. refusing to bathe for instance. the judge said the trial will commence with or without castillo. jury selection is expected to resume tomorrow. >> 19-year-old brian scott is sentenced to 40 years for his role in a baltimore county carjacking. scott and another kidnapped a couple from a light rail stop in timonium. young man put in the trunk and female raped. in court today scott asked the families for forgiveness. >> a woman that newborn baby was found in a trash bin behind a baltimore church has been sentenced to time served and five year probation. melanie blevins pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. blevins claimed she delivered a stillborn baby. the medical examiner found, however, otherwise. >> turning to the weather. it was a beautiful fall day out there. >> we hear rain is on the way. with cold temperatures to boot. jessica starr tells us when all the fun starts. >> yeah, things will be changing tomorrow. a little bit of a transition day. and the end of the work week into conditions outside today. and things will be changing. the national picture shows you, these are the rain showers, down to the south right now. this is what is moving into our direction later tomorrow evening. developing into a coastal low. and then work the way up the eastern seaboard and stick around t won't be a fast mover and bring a lot of rain showers and chilly temperatures toward the region. on the surface map, we have the area of high pressure system in control for about one more day. and it will be exiting during the daytime for tomorrow. so waking up at 8 a.m. tomorrow wake up to some sunshine. and the clouds thickening throughout the day. for tomorrow. and then there is that area of low pressure sitting down to the south. but by 8:00 tomorrow. the clouds will be thickening. but we will be dry tomorrow. rain showers won't move in to late wednesday to early thursday morning. 10 a.m. thursday. that's when the rain showers will arrive. and a lot of clouds around. and cold temperatures as well. temperatures struggling to reach into the 50s for the next couple of days. so for tomorrow, 55 degrees for the eastern shore forecast. winds winds out of the east at five to 10. and central maryland. wake up with the sunshine. and clouds increase through the day. high temperature of 56 degrees. and tomorrow probably one of the last days to get outside and get a with in with the dog or outside activities before the rain showers move in to maryland. tomorrow, 56 degrees. winds out of the northeast at five to 10 miles per hour. out on the bay for tomorrow. the
