freely in both directions. 95 looks good moving from baltimore county from whitemarsh toward the beltway. in fact, we're in the green and that only continues on the beltway. the outer loop lanes, from 95 up toward 83, only 53 miles per hour with a 12 minute clip from 795 down toward 95. that's a look at your morning travels, megan, back over to you. a 6-year-old boy is fighting for his life this morning after jumping out of a moving school bus. this is a story you saw first on fox. joel d smith live at john hopkins pediatric hospital where that boy is more, and why he decided to jump out of that bus, good morning, joel. >> reporter: good morning, megan. he is in critical condition here. so far what we can tell is police say that he jumped out of this bus after being in a fight with another student. that was his reason for jumping. the boy got into a fight with another student on this bus before trying to make his escape, first through the front door and then eventually opening the front door and jumping out while the bus was still moving. it happened at the intersection of gerwood road. the 6-year-old is a student at the villa maria at timonium. after the incident, many drivers were asking where are the adults. police say there were a number of aides to monitor the students. somehow the 6-year-old was still able to get out. >> i think the door should have been better secured or someone should have been standing by the door or at least ready when they saw him start to act up. >> it's terrible that these things can happen. i'm very sad. >> reporter: a spoke persons with baltimore city schools has released this statement. it reads in part city schools are deeply sad end that one of our students were seriously injured. we are working to investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident. but we do know at this point is that a 6-year-old is still in cricritical condition here at jn hopkins pediatrics. joel d smith, fox 45 early edition. police fire an officer in carroll county. it happened at tawney "10!," ta. officers went to the home. when police got to the home, he was in the backyard. the man shouted come get me and fired shots at the officer. fortunately no one was injured. police have not released information on a suspect. drug use may have been a factor in a crash in anne arundel county. he died after his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. a preliminary investigation showed drugs in his system. he was also driving without a license. there were four cars total involved in that crash. three people were injured. attorneys for baltimore county doctor accused of inplanting unnecessary heart stints in numbers of patients are speaking out. the doctor's legal team will talk about the doctor's upcoming hearing with the board of physicians. they're also expected to address his alleged relationship with stint maker abbott laboratorieses. ther st. joe's cardiologist is facing dozens of lawsuits after the hospital notified more than 350 patients that may have received unnecessary procedures. >> while family and friends say goodbye to elizabeth he he had s says it will be protesting the antiborough church. it announced it will be picketing h edwards final farewell. she lost her battle with breast cancer and will be laid to rest. edwards was 61 years old. deliberations continue in the kidnapping case of elizabeth smart. it was eight years since smart was snatched from her utah home. after a long trial a jury will decide whether the man who kidnapped her was legally sane. first time unemployment claims dropped last week. there were 421,000 claims filed which is lower than what most economists expected. the four-week average was at its lowest point in two years and the number of people still collecting benefits fell 190,000. however, federal reserve ben bernanke says it could take up to 5 years before unemployment reaches normal levels. the senate is debating a deal proposed by gop that would extend bush era tax cuts, but the house democrats won't even consider it. they ar expecting a quick approl because of right now the benefits are likely to run out on january first. dream have rejected the proposal. they won't even schedule floor consideration until tax cuts for the rich are cut back. >> we were told yesterday by the vice president this was a take it or leave it deal, we are saying leave? >> nancy pelosi is currently opposed to the deal in its current form, but she expects the house to act soon after the senate. senate republicans have passed a bill that would help first responders after the 9/11 attack. andrea day has the latest. >> we did our jobs. we did not hess indicate t!! hee are asking is please have a heart. >> reporter: was one of the first paramedics at ground zero at 9/11. now he struggles with breathing problems and was counting on the senate. >> put your politics aside and let's do the right thing for the 9/11 responders. >> reporter: just minutes after the 9/11 bill was shot down at the senate. mayor bloomberg shooting down at the politics, calling it a tragic example of politics trumping patriotism. the senate republican was refusing to pass any deal until they work a tax cut deal. the bill was named after james adroga, a first responder who died from respiratory disease. it was meant to help all workers who say they got sick working on rushed to danger to help us in a time of war. members of the senate have also blocked a measure that would repeal the millitary's don't ask don't tell policy. the law bans gay troops from serving openly. thursday a proposal to overturn the legislation failed by a vote of 57-40. it needed 60 to advance to debate. only one republican voted for it. gop lawmakers say they are concentrating on tax another chilly start to the day with temperatures in the 20s throughout the 5:41 on this friday morning. let's check in with meteorologist steve fertig and see how the weather is shaping for us. hi, steve. megan, another cold start, 29 degrees for the current temperature at the inner harbor. cloudy skies and at least it's not been as cold as it's been. winds are calm, so no windchill effect. and 18 is the dew point. it's pretty dry. 29 is the temperature in baltimore but it's 30 in d.c. big deal, one degree warmer many meanwhile salisbury a bit cooler, 18 only in salisbury and 21 in oakland. that will make us feel a little bit better about the 29-degree temperature here in baltimore. now around the area it looks like a dry scan, but there's snow showers once again moving into garrett county to things should be pretty good out toward the western part of maryland as they continue to see an opportunity for snow to fall. some of that activity will continue to move north and east. what we're looking at is a possibility of maybe some rain combined with snow mix for sunday into monday. we're going to watch. first of all high pressure building or sliding off to the east is going to allow for more of a southeasterly flow. what that will allow is temperatures to warm up a few degrees, 40 for the high. then we got the coastal low moving up, bringing in some moisture and some rain rain, at least the start on sunday earlier in the day. then a frontal boundary with the next low pressure center moving north and east that could bring additional rainfall and the chance for maybe a little snow mixing in as we get toward the colder part of the night on sunday night into monday. not talking about significant accumulation, but be prepared there a little bit of a mix as we head toward monday morning. 43 degrees, with partly cloudy skies, winds out at 5-10 miles per hour. central part of the state, upper forty with mostly sunny and it becomes more clear as we get toward the nighttime hours. back to the west, as i said we could see snow showers with most low cloudy skies, 37 only for the high. tonight we drop to 27 degrees so another chilly night with a southwest wind at 5 miles per hour. looking at the next 7 days, we get a llttle bit of a warm up for the saturday and sunday timeframe as we move intt the weekend. that will also be more likely than to result in some rainshowers and snow showers bought of the milderrair. there could be more of a mix as we get ovvrnight sunday into early monday. 43 for the high on monday, then ddy and much colder, thursday, 29 for the high, and 32 and 37, we bounce back mid-week but not skies. now let's check on the roadways with candace dold. thank you, steve. we have been talking about a problem on 295 this morring. it's a crash on the southbound lane much you will find it right at route 648 water view avenue. there are a lot of crews that are already on the scene, possible lane blockages through the area. we will will be right back. never to see him again. >> reporter: he left home that night to get food for tte family. >> he left to go get a pizza. he come across the playground and then boom. >> reporter: robbed then shot. >> it as senseless. i mean people rob people. why do they have to kill them. >> reporter: police say gulliver was among the victim of six shootings in the area that night. two brothers shot, 1 of them killed just a few blocks away on sultan aveeue. police. >> we're really looking for some help. >> reporter: say they have no witnesses, no clues, no suspects. investigators need a break, someone to call with a good tip. >> i know, it's been two years, but we're asking for anyone who may have been by katherine street, by fulton avenue, if you heard anything, if you have
