waking up to this morning. it looks as though it could be a nice day today, a little bit warmer than we saw the past couple of days. we will check in on that weather in a little bit. good morning, welcome to fox 45 morning news. today, is thursday, may 20th. i'm megan gilliland. patrice has the day off. and meteorologist steve fertig is here with us because you're doing to deliver some sunshine. rather mild with 50s out there. take a look at the temperatures. we will see the temperatures in a moment, and the sky conditions on sky watch hd radar not revealing more than a drizzle in spots. that is dissipating as the high pressure builds in. we are looking at warmer day as the temperature builds in from the north and west. bench degrees in baltimore, 54 in hager town, and 55 in salisbury. here is where we're headed getting to 51 degrees for the high. it should be nice, cooler in the 70s to the east and west, but generally speaking much warmer and a very pleasant day. what about the roadways this morning, are they going to be providing you with a pleasant trip to work? here is candace dold with the traffic edge. candace, good morning. >> reporter: steve, good morning. not bad we do have the volume that is starting to filter in. here it is on the 70, you can see the cloud out there. all in all no brake lights to talk about. that's the same deal from 795 to 95. looking at an 11-minute ride at 55 miles per hour. and the same speed with only an 8 minute clip at southbound 95 this morning from the mor fort mchenry. and 9 minutes at 53 miles per hour. that's a look at the morning travels. megan back over to you. thank you, candace. two firefighters end up in the hospital after battling a late night fire near patterson park. joel d smith is live now where one of the firefighters fell through the floor. joel, what can you tell us. >> reporter: this is 121 north patterson avenue, a lost vacant homes here. you see the homes that are vacant they are boarded up. this is not boarded up anymore because they had to go in. debris is here every place. this happened at 11 or 10:45 the fire department was called out. when they got here the fire had reached both floors of this building. the firefighters went to try to stop the flames but while they were inside, something went wrong. one. firefighters yelled may day and was fell through the floor and was injured enough to be taken to shock trauma with another fire fighfirefighter. we received this note from the local 724. please keep your baltimore firefighters in your thoughts tonight and every night as they put their lives on the line to protect the citizens of baltimore. the fire did not spread to other buildings but they are unoccupied. it's difficult to know if there's smoke damage. look at the top of the roof still hanging off so kind of a dangerous situation for folks walking in this area. once again, two firefighters have been injured, one maybe seriously as he fell through the top level through trying to fight the flames and fell to the bottom. we will be definitely updating it throughout the rest the morning. joel d smith, fox 45 early edition. a 5th person is arrested in connection with the murder of a washington d.c. principal. 19 years old joel johnson was taken to custody tuesday night. he faces first-degree murder and robbery charges in the death of 42 years old brian beck. the principal was found dead in his ville certify spring home last month. three other teens are charged in the murder and one of their mothers is charged with using credit cards stolen from there. police want a man in the questioning of a 6-month-old girl who contracted gonorrhea. officers found calvin woods at woodlawn. they took him into custody for allegedly violating his parole on drug charges. the mother says that woods lived with the family in an apartment at cherry hill, and left her alone with him after finding out the child contracted an std. >> i could sleep better not thinking that someone is lurking around my house. i can sleep better. am i happy that wilkes was arrested. no he needs to be charged with the sexual assault on my child. police are referring to him as a person of interest. no charges will be filed against a sex convicted offender accused of paying while in prison. while serving a prison sentence for sexually abusing a minor, mclaughlin kept seeping his paycheck from the city. according to the former co-worker, mclaughlin's mother told other employees that her son was at home recovering from hernia surgery. in all he received $12,000 while in prison. since her sons signed off on those checks, it's a business issue not a criminal one. >> the policies weren't followed and so i'm surprised by the response from the state attorney's office. >> the city's state's attorneys office recommends that he pay the city for any leave he was not entitled to. the case of city council helen holton moves forward today. the judge sweeney is expected to set a trial date this afternoon. holton is accused of violating campaign finance law. prosecutors say he had two baltimore developers pay for a political polo her behalf. the poll cost $12,500. state law limits campaign donation to $4,000. baltimore's proposed bottle tax idea is dead. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake wanted the 4-cent tax on bottles like this to produce $11 million that would help the city close a $120 million budget gap. but she just doesn't have the votes on the city council. some the councilmembers say they can find the money elsewhere. >> we're finding revenue elsewhere. that is what this is all about and frankly we're finding revenue that isn't going to be found at the cost of potentially driving business out to the saint ocounty or at the cost ofg our own residents pay more. >> instead of the bottle tax some city councilmembers want to raise taxes on outdoor advertising, raise fees on overweight trucks, increased parking meters to $2 per hour, and license video pocker machines. a proposal to raise fines on a public nuisances fines has strong reaction. councilman young wants to raise the fines as a way to bring more revenue into the city. however some councilmembers are questioning the reasons for that plan. >> i understand that if somebody comes out and somebody is peeing on my house, fine them $1,000. but statement can i minimize the unintended consequences. >> young wants to increase the finds up to $750 in some crimes in some neighborhoods. same sex couples working for the state of maryland will soon enjay benefits. it will include them same sex spouses under the state been mitt fireman. they can add eligible dependents. the move comes after gensler issued a legal opinion saying that the maryland must recognize out of state same-sex marriages. john dwyer calls this pol poll e illegal. >> the opinion says this we recognize those marriages as legal contracts the same we honor licenses. dwyer says he is in the process of talking to attorneys to have the policy change reversed in court. earlier this year, dwyer filed impeachment charges against gensler but those charges were thrown out. governor martino pall martis preparing to sign a bill that would keep inside of their home. he is scheduled to sign the bill into law this morning. the bill requires lenders to send a loan modification application to all homeowners. lenders must proof they have completed a loan modification analysis before putting a propertiy oproperty on the mark. do you think this campaign sign is going to be too big? it's a story you saw first on fox and it's stirring up some controversy. take a look for yourself. county officials cited colbey for having a sign for bob ehrlich. he took the sign down but he hired a lawyer because he says it violates his right to free speech. >> as far as the county is concerned is because it's for bob ehrlich. >> the baltimore county has no interest in the con content of e sign, it's strickly about the size and location. >> he was told he would be fined $200 a day or go to jail if the sign didn't go down. secretary hillary clinton prepares to start a campaign of three nations. he wants to make a stop at japan and korea. it follows the sinking of a south korea ship. the country is blaming the torpedo of north korea. north korea denies. americans moms on the ground in ter hahn, at least two of them are in poor health. governor martin o'malley prepares to announce new measures in an effort to restore the chesapeake bay population. the plans include expanding oyster sanctuaries, and the process of growing oysters in cages instead of harvesting them directly from the bay. the governor's administration will go into more detail about those changes tomorrow. coming [ cheering ] >> joining lee for a shot at the title is crystal bower sox. >> i'm safe? i'm safe. >> yes, she is save. >> casey james is out and that means crystal bower objection se are in for the final. >> definitely, if one of those two hadn't made the finals tonight we would have been thinking that wasn't right. >> fox 45 will bring you live coverage of the idol finale all next week. candace dold is going to be in hollywood starting sunday on fox 45 morning news at 10:00. remember you can catch the finale tuesday and wednesday night at 8:00 here on fox 45. now it's time to check in with meteorologist steve fertig and see when thinks of american idol and the weather. it's the finalist that should be. >> i think everyone agrees. meanwhile weather. >> it's going to be looking good weather wise, too and we're happy about that. a dry scan, that will be the story today, drier conditions, more sunshine and nothing doing on hd radar, a couple of drizzle activities to the west but that is not going to affect us as high pressure moves in. it dries us out nicely. nice storms where tornado alley lies and that is going to be the problem for folks in arkansas and moving through the tennessee valley where they can be developing more tornados like they experienced yesterday. 57 degrees is the temperature at the inner harbor with partly cloudy skies overturning mostly sunny later. winds are out of the west at 5 miles per hour and the humidity is at 25%. dew point is at bun. take a look at the temperatures, we're at 57, and close to same at 55 and fairly uniform across the state, and 54 in hagerstown. the temperatures are going to climb more as warm air begins to move in thanks to the sunshine, and the low pressure moves off to the east and the high pressure is what brings the sunshine today. it keeps the showers at bay. the showers will get here saturday, probably will still get here saturday but probably only for the western counties and the rest of us as it heads into the afternoon and evening. sunday we have a better chance of thunderstorms. jet extreme is going to help steer the upper level flow. it's going to help develop the stormy conditions for sunday. it won't be an all day event like i said yesterday but the warmest part of the day the afternoon and evening a chance of thunderstorms. today's highs on the eastern shore, a northwest wind at 5-10 miles per hour. that would be the coolest spot. the rest of us it won't climb into the 80s for the central sunny skies. northwest wind at 5-10 miles an hour. temperature here of 79 degrees, mostly clear skies, a northwest wind at 5-10. tonight 59 degrees, fairly mild and a southwest wind at 5 miles per hour and the clear skies. tomorrow warmer still, 84, maybe do a degree or two warmer than, but mostly clear. the clouds will roll in as we move through saturday. in comes the chance of showers on saturday for most. the western counties could come in and 74 degrees with a chance of a thunderstorm on sunday. on 79, we won't rule out a chance of a shower but only a 20% chance, mostly sunny for a high of 82 for tuesday and 84 for your wednesday. iradar is available at foxbaltimore.com. you can use fox 45 powerful doppler radar to track the incoming storms. go to we foxbaltimore.com and ck on iradar. here is candace dold with what is happening on the roadways. she has the traffic edge. >> reporter: thanks, steve. we are in picture perfect shape out there heading out on the many of the headlines at greenspring avenue through the pikeville region favorable conditions inner loop lanes and outer loop stretch as well. farther down on the beltway traveling near harford road, let's check out that area for you, those lanes are wide open in both directions. 95 is looking good as well the southbound lanes taking it through whitemarsh. let's check it out right now. the cloud that is starting to form, no incidents to talk about, no brake lights to talk about, we will take it. that's a look at the morning travels, megan, back over to you. still ahead, the housing market takes a down turn, what the bankers mortgage association is saying about the number of foreclosures in the last your fer. >> it does take it to a whole other level. >> a sox [ vrrroooooomm! ] black one! where?
