their search for suspects in a deadly shooting in a pizza restaurant. >> miciel flores was shot and killed. >> it is business as usual at the pizza parlor on the 7600 block of baltimore-annapolis -- at mr. wings & pizza. misael abdias flores was shot and killed. >> we had a lot of plans and it is over because some kids were robbing the store. >> last night flores wasist visiting friends that worked at wings & pizza. four people walked in and tried to rob the restaurant. >> he told them, get out from here two times, and then they shot him. >> the suspects took off but didn't see anything. now they are holding on to memories of the guy that got along with everyone. >> he didn't cause any bad. he was fun to hang out with. i'm going to miss him dearly. >> so far bless have made one arrest. 17-year-old vincent bunner has been charged with murder. authorities are on the outlook for two accomplices. >> police investigating a stabbing at arund he will mills mall. -- arun defment ll mills mall. the victim was taken to shock trauma. his injuries not life-threatening. no wore on arrests or motive. >> in baltimore city the search continues for a gunman that killed a 34-year-old man. it happened before 2:00 saturday morning in the 1900 block of west baltimore street. police say the man had been shot in the head. he was rushed to the hospital but died a few hours later. no word on a possible motive. >> also in baltimore city police investigating an arled robbery in the campus -- armed robbery near the campus of loyola university. it is an incident and police and school officials know could have ended much worse. >> it was 2:00 a.m. when people walking in the 100 block of west cold spring lane were approached by two men with knives. >> as they crossed to a parking lot, they were confined by two of the individuals that demanded money and jewelery. those individuals were brandishing knives and threatened to take them. >> loyola, which boasts a strong track record of student safety, immediately contacted student safety through an incident alert system. >> it has been years since we've had a violent crime incident on our campus. we heard this occurred and wanted to be sure to do everything we could to make sure this didn't happen again. >> loyola students have been urged to travel in groups. in deed, three were traveling together in the early morning hours. >> it appears that the students were doing everything they were supposed to do, which makes it that much more concerning to us as a community. >> the school has increased patrols and the number of off-duty police officers that help guard the campus. police are help encouraging students and others in the area to stay on main thoroughfares and other areas. >> like any street robbery, it has the potential to escalate. obviously we don't want victims to incur more substantial injuries. >> tebra weiner, wbal. >> a 12-inch water main broke after 7:00 a.m. after dunfield road near bell air road. crews were worked to repair the water main break. >> crews have to work on repairing the break. >> traffic is closed near the break until monday. >> changes coming to the state's law on slot machines. mike miller yesterday told the "baltimore sun" he will push for operators to hold more than one of the five licenses. so far there have been no additional bids for the parlor in western maryland. they hope they will attract more bidders to the state. >> president obama will return from his asian tour. meantime the president is talking about ways to slash the budget and get the nage's deficit down. stay dry. there is cold air acrs this front coming through the ohio river valley. this will come through sometime tomorrow morning. again, we're in the vicinity, maybe a slight schans for shower even monday morning. more importantly, it's going to bring in a chillier airmass and give us a chance for rain, i think, during that stretch as well. one more nice day today. a good mixture of sun and clouds. high temperatures in the 60's. sunrise coming up in a few minutes at 6:49. overnight a cleist slight chance for rain showers as that front gets closer. temperatures drop back into the low 40's. during the day, the front will move off the coast in the afternoon, and an area of low pressure will very well along the front down into the carolinas. that will ride up into the mid-atlantic region and give us a chance for rain, i think, on tuesday and wednesday, and it is going to knock the temperatures back. we expect my temperatures over that stretch only in the upper 40's and low 50's. a significant change coming up for us in the temperature department. we will still hit 59 tomorrow. a chance for sunshine on monday. much better chance for tuesday, wednesday, and thursday with high temperatures dropping off into the low 50's at best. i think it will clear up. friday and saturday looking ok. high temperatures in the mid to upper 50's. we send it over to the news desk. >> we to him personally? >> yes. >> did he threaten you? >> yes and no. >> he said he was only expressing the frustration of his district that got the shortened of the snow-removal stick. >> i was quite upset and in the moment and in the passionate debate i may have said things that had i had a chance to reflect, i wouldn't have said it. >> there is not the only time council members flexed their muscles. we reviewed thousands of letters council members sent to officials demanding to responses to noots and churches and businesses irrespective of the plans the city was trying to carry out. jack young, 10 days after the blizzard for the city to clear barne street in east baltimore. >> "this is the fourth request i have made. i want this addressed today." young wrote. the official responded suggesting barnes not exactly a priority. the street is less than 100 feet long, deadends into an alley, so i think it is ok as is. another official visited the street noticing half was actually dry pavement. young persisted. the officials relented telling young, ok, i'll have it plowed. >> these are the folks that provide the budget for this department, approve the budget for this department. hard to ignore. >> that's true. >> every council member and some state legislatures pressured the city, some passing on words from constituents. >> please be advised, you will not be re-elected unless we get a response. >> we have -- at one point we had 10,000 complaints. >> the e-mails showed councilwoman mary pat clark managed to get her own contractor force. she said, the result of persistence. >> why would the city give you your own -- fosh >> they didn't give them to me. they basically said, you're driving us crazy. we're trying to help you. we're not talking about an army in your district. leave us alone. >> two contractors were assigned to clark. each day community leaders took them around to plow. city officials showed his unease. >> i worry from a billing perspective he wrote to clarke, i have lost control. and please don't tell your colleagues how we've done this. >> clark makes no apologies. >> it doesn't appear any of the other council members had such an understandable they want to respond to constituents, but at what cost to the overall effectiveness of a snow removal plan. >> clearly the officials are trying to get to that plan in order to score position charged with digging up information on the opposition. even skirting the ethical laws to get candidates elected. unfortunately maryland politics are not immune from these tactics as julius henson said he was to blame for the trick of robo calling voters. he said it was a call to get registered republicans motivated. according to campaign finance records the bob ehrlich campaign was henson's employer and the call was intended to get out the vote for the ex-governor. however as was reported, the call went primarily to registered democrats in the city. when the former -- asked whether the former governor knew about the call? he seder lick was unaware. doug gansler vowed to investigate what laws, if any, the law violated. they questioned whether civil rights laws were violated and promised a full investigation. many others voiced outrage, but governor ehrlich has been quiet. we believe mr. ehrlich must telethe public what he knows. we support the attorney general's investigation and encourage the former governor to assist in every way. mr. ehrlich owes honesty. the same thing he promised during the campaign. on election night ehrlich was gracious in defeat citing his love for our state and his years of local, state, and federal service. however, until he provides claret with regard to what he knows he will have lost more than this election. he will have messages. >> we had a lot of plans. today would be his 21st birthday. unfortunately it is all over because some kids were robbing the store. >> last night flores wass visiting a friend that worked at mr. wings & pizza. four people walked in and tried to rob the restaurant. >> he said get out of here two times. >> the suspects took off but didn't steal anything. flores was rushed to the hospital where he later died. now thinks friends are holding on to memories of the guy known as "slinky." >> my friend was an all-around great person. i'm going to miss him dearly. >> so far police have made one arrest. 17-year-old vincent bunner has been charged as an adult in murder. police are on the lookout for the other two suspects. >> also police in anne arundel county are investigating a stabbing at arundel mills mall. the victim was taken to shock trauma. his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. no word on arrests or a possible motive. >> the search continued for a gunman that killed a 34-year-old man. it happened before 2:00 saturday morning in the 1900 block of west baltimore street. police say the man had been shot in the head. he was rushed to the hospital but died a few hours later. there is no word on a possible motive in this case. >> also police investigating an armed robbery near the campus of loyola university. as deborah weiner tells us, it is an incident police and school officials know could have ended worse. >> it was 2:00 a.m. when people walking within the 100 block of west coldspring lane were approached by two men with nives -- knives. >> as they walked through the parking lot they were approached by two men that demanded money and jewelery. they were brandishing knives and threatened the victims. >> one victim was punched in the face before the suspects fled on foot. >> loyola which boasts a strong track record of student safety immediately contacted authorities through an incident alert system. >> it has been years since we have had a violent crime incident of this sort, so since we heard this occurred, we were concerned to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> loyola students have been urged to travel in groups and be ap -- aware of their surroundings. >> in this incident it appears the dents were doing -- students were doing everything they were supposed to do. >> the school has increased patrols and the number of off-duty police officers that help guard the cam campus. police are encouraging students and others to stay on main thoroughfares and well-lit areas. >> it does like any street robbery have the degrees in rising sun. satellite imaginary and that high thin cloud imaginary. you will notice as you step out this morning, there is rain showing up out of ohio and into west virginia at the present time. some showers could hold together and maybe move through here this evening or overnight tonight. we will put a slight chance for rain in the picture over that time stretch. there is still snow going on up in minnesota and parts of wisconsin where they picked up over a foot of snow over the last 12 hours. this front here that is coming across ohio at the present time looks like it is zipping through maryland. a chance for showers, and it will cool things off. we have been in the 60's the last several days and i think we will wind up in the 50's to start the workweek. today one more nice one. high temperatures will sneak into the low 60's. a mixture of sunshine and clouds. sunset this evening at 4:53. jove night tonight partly cloudy skies. a slight chance for a few rain showers as the front comes through. temperatures drop to 37 and 46 degrees. the front will move off the coast in the afternoon, but more importantly, there will be an area of low pressure developing on this front that back delu the gulf coast states. that will ride up through the mid-atlantic region and give us a chance for rain. it will be chilly over that stretch as well. so a definite change coming up as we head into the workweek. 59 tomorrow, a 20% chance for a shower. a pretty good chance for rain tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. the high temperatures will drop into the low 50's over that stretch. we should clear up as we head into the beginning of friday and saturday with high temperatures rebounding back into the mid to upper 50's. >> in medical alert, alarming new projections for beats beats. americans can expect diabetes cases to double in the next 25 years from 23 million to 44 million in the year 2034. that translates into a tripling cost associated with diabetes and that's without preff lens in the increase in obesity. joining us, a representative from the diabetes management center. >> why the huge projection? >> i think it has a lot to do with lifestyle factors and people really just making choices that aren't the healthyest ones. both in what they eat and how they eat and also in activity levels, taking opportunities to be active. >> more and more children are overweight, too? >> absolutely. that's one of the highest rates that is on the rise right now is in children. i think in part because they are doing more on-screens or in front of screens, watching a lot of screens and doing less physical activity. >> for parents, when they do those yearly check-ups for their children is to get their blood shotgunar tested? >> automatically. having lab tests and screening at your doctors or if you see free screenings in the community, take advantage of those. i think that helping to improve the rates would be a family effort for the most part, because what children see is often what they do. >> type 2 diabetes factors into these projections greatly. what is type 2 diabetes? >> type 2 diabetes is a cluster of different types of symptoms that makes a body less sensitive to its own insulin. so it occurs when overweight is present over a long period of time, and often symptoms don't show up until it is really, really advanced. it is important to get regular screenings and also to be pro active with eating healthy. if you can. we've heard that before, but it is critical and important to do that. >> insulin does what? >> it is a hormone our body makes on its own out of our pancreas that helps the glucose in our bloodstream get into the cell. when it can't into the cell because there is not enough insulin or the tissues aren't using it correctly, it circulates throughout our blood stream at high levels. >> there are a lot of people out there that think they have it and if they don't take their medicine. it is so expensive. but don't let that be something that stops you, because there are programs to help people, right? >> absolutely. we have fantastic pharmacy assistance programs. because it is really a public health crisis, a lot of companies are stepping up to the plate to help people who are in need. i know at our center we have free support groups that we can help link people up to resources any time that they come in, whether it is during our meetings or just to stop by and say "hi" and ask for help. >> you want people to reach out and if they know anything about this condition, because they are -- there are inexpensive services to help them pay. >> absolutely. it is not just city and zate, but private industry has i lot of programs available as well. >> thank you so much for coming in. >> well, lifestyle >> it is not clear what the president will do to shore up -- i mean, there is a reservoir of distrust between the president and this white house. namely, the president. they want to talk about the debt, the deficit, cutting government spending. it is not clear where the painful choices would be agreed to. president obama would like to address the don't-ask/don't-tell position of the military. he comes back to a full plate, but not a lot has changed except the expectation he will change a little bit. >> and he also pledged to slash the budget and bring the deficit down. alan greenspan will be one of your guests. what insight do you expect to hear from him. >> i think bell get a broader economic outlook from him and get a sense of where the jobs are and where the housing market is. he's been part of this slashed deficit. one of the things i expect him to say is an across-the-board program to cut the deficit is what is necessary, that you can't do it in a piecemale way. -- piecemeal way. the proponents of this debt proposal are hard, and do the republicans have the guts to stand up and do this. >> and can they get things done. is there a sense they can bridge this divide? >> this is a sense among republicans they have to deliver. if they have been successful heretoforeit is because they have been united on opposition. the republicans want to reign in government. that's the mandate, if there is any, for republicans, to bring down government spending. the question is, where and how are you going to do it? >> you have to get another one, and you won't be able to use that until you do. it's -- >> that's a pain. >> yeah. the other thing you want to remember is full disclosure. when you buy a dst gift card, they have to tell you every term and condition. is it replaceable if it is lost or stolen? they will give you all the information about that card, critical full closure. most importantly, they cannot charge you anything. if that gift card is inactive, the first year, but after the first year they can start charging you a monthly fee. one time a month, they get charged a fee. they will begin to chip away at that balance that's remaining on that card to the tune of $2.50 or $3 a month every time you don't use it. my advice to you is use them. when you get them, read the fine print and use them. >> they are already charging some of them a fee off the top. >> you think it is $100 even and then the next thing you know, it is $105. >> when you buy them, that is oftentimes that fee. there are activation fees, all kinds of fees. so these new regulations are dined to protect us and let us know what we're getting into. >> other things we should keep in mind with gift cards?
