>> a sailor's back home safety -- safely. we have more on this incredible journey that began last june. >> can you imagine being on a sailboat by yourself without ever stopping? that is what a man did. he is in the record books. it is all for a good cause. when he dropped anchor in annapolis, he was greeted by bands and cheers from his family. these are his first steps on dry land since last june. he spent the last 314 days at sea navigating 25,000 miles in a sailboat. he was all by himself. his journey raise the money for local group that helps sailor's make it possible for people with disabilities to sale. the journey was not without its obstacles. >> there were times where i had close near-misses. i got no radar on the boat. you mix it all together, yeah. nearly killed by a giant iceberg at 1 point. >> it will not completely go away. we will be on a higher level and save more people because of him. >> matt's goal was to raise 10 dozen dollars for every mile he saved -- sailed. >> a book coming out shortly. great. thank you so much. the weather was perfect day for the welcome home ceremony. it is about to change. let's get our first check of the forecast with john collins. >> we had a little break today. the rain slowed up coming in. we had some bonus with some sunshine this afternoon. the rain is on the doorstep. it is all about to change quickly. we can show you the radar right now. the rain is into frederick county at this point. there is thunder and lightning. scattered storms coming in from the west right now. it is moving not at a rapid clip. we will take a closer view of what is going on and show you off to the northwest the rain activity in carroll county, just coming into westminster. we will be taking a look at this activity coming up in just a few minutes in detail. big rain tomorrow. >> thank you. the weather is warmer. you know what that means. it is time for spring cleaning. thousands of residents gathered in five different sites today where they converted vacant lots into community gardens. >> i just heard a story about a kid -- they were in the neighborhood and saw what we are doing, and now they are signed up to be a part of the garden. that is what this is about. >> since the mayor's cleanup started 12 years ago, nearly 90,000 tons of debris have been removed. across town, volunteers took a page out of "the lorax" to create a greater community. they planted trees near schools. among the benefits of planting trees, removing air pollution and decrease in noise. the national aquarium is celebrating earth day with a mission to educate people on ways to save the planet. activities included a fair and turning recycled materials and to craft. kids got a chance to get up close with animals to learn about their habitat. they say educating visitors about conservation is their mission. >> it is extremely important that we educate everyone that comes here. if everyone can take one thing home with them that they can do to protect the environment, think what that would mean. if one person learned something new here today and put it into practice -- >> it continues tomorrow with the tree planting at 11:00 a.m. if you sign a pledge to plant a tree, you will get one to take home. you can bring old cell phones and other small electronics to recycle. you will get a gift. there is no better time to get rid of your personal documents now that tax day has come and gone. the better business bureau posted its shred day event to give people the opportunity to reduce their risk of identity theft in just seconds. >> hundreds of cars piled into the white marsh parking lot saturday morning as people waited for their turn at the shredder truck. >> i have to shred all the mail i have. i am always worried about someone stealing my identity. >> it is the fourth annual shred day event, hosted by the better business bureau. local residents and businesses dropped up -- dropped off up to three boxes to be shredded for free. >> it is a big issue these days. you put it in the garbage and you never know what is going to happen to it. leaveerts say, don't anything to chance. >> taxes, bank statements, things that have pertinent information that could come in the hands of a scam artist, bring your credit card up or do harm as a result of stealing your identity. >> participants and security experts can agree shred day was a success. >> yes. i will be here every time they do it. >> if you could not make it today, don't worry. experts say an at-home crosscut shredder will do the trick. still ahead, a man caught on tape damaging a camera. he was not successful. we show you why. it has been a year since the tornado went through the st. louis airport. it is finally ready to reopen. we give you of look at the newly i found a powerful new way to cut out arthritis pain. [ male announcer ] new icy hot arthritis lotion. powerful encapsulated menthol gets icy to dull pain, hot to relax it away. power past pain. >> and the tories figure from the watergate era has died. chuck colson is the special counsel to president nixon. he later became an evangelical and worked with prison inmates. he was 80 years old. authorities are searching for the remains of a 6-year-old boy who disappeared in 1979. fbi agents are using jackhammers to dig up the basement floor and have removed dry wall from the building. they're hoping to find any trace of him. a dog picked up the scent of human remains in the basement. authorities say they're cautiously optimistic. a man in santa fe, new mexico, took things to the extreme. he pulled up in his car, stepped out in what appears to be a nightgown, and fired shots at the van. the van had damage to its windshield and roof. the camera is perfectly fine. police say because the video -- because of the video, there will be able to identify that man. it has been almost a year since a tornado slammed into the st. louis international airport. you may remember some of the incredible video from that event as passengers watched and then ran for cover. the airport security cameras captured the flying debris. tsa agents ducked for cover. as the anniversary approaches and $20 million later, repairs are nearly complete. passengers say the airport has not looked as good in years. >> absolutely beautiful. it is very -- it makes you feel good when you get off the plane. >> nature was brutal. gone was gracious. -- god gracious . >> it was designed by the same market -- architect who designed the world trade center's twin towers. >> i was at that airport a couple months ago. it was obvious there was a lot of -- that one area of the terminal building. we have thunderstorms moving in. the son last a little longer than i thought. the rain is out there. we will talk about it coming up in just a minute. there is the view from the grand hotel. the boardwalk and the beach. a lot more sunshine there. the rain is coming in. we will have the forecast in a minute. >> now, your instaweather plus forecast with john collins. >> the rain is on the doorstep. i circled baltimore. here is the city and the inner harbor. here is carroll county, westminster. there has been some thunder and lightning, not recently. western howard country. it also has a little shower activity. there's more to it. this is just the leading edge coming in. even the clouds -- i mean, the sunshine is shining year. there is not a big lead up to this. temperatures made it up to around 80 for the high today. 81 was the high at the airport. inner harbor, 82. record, 88. 53 and 59 were the lows this morning. our temperatures are well above the normal for this time of year. nothing unusual. the temperatures spread changes considerably. the cold front is west of town. the yellow and orange is around 80 degrees. then we get to the green, right in carroll county. from this point on, it is rain and temperatures have dropped. 15, 20 degrees or so. he 6, westminster. 40's in the mountains to the west. chilly air coming in. the rain is right behind that. usually a little more lead up. scattered clouds. more sunshine on the eastern shore. eventually, it will bring the rain chance with it. there is rain on the bay, south of annapolis, leading into southern maryland right now. the cool front reaches into virginia. that kind of ends. that is not the end of the chance for rain. it goes all the way south to the gulf. that will become a nor'easter tomorrow. overnight, cloudy and chile -- chilly. winds 7 to 12 miles an hour. a breezy day. 53 to 58 the high. much of the day tomorrow, we may spend in the 40's. today, probably less than half of an inch of precipitation. we will probably go over two and in some areas, pushing 3 inches as far as grain is concerned tomorrow. 15 to 20 miles per hour tomorrow. small craft advisories are in the forecast for tomorrow. 50's tomorrow and monday. the heaviest rain tomorrow, maine -- maybe a few lingering showers monday, and snow in the forecast west of frederick for sunday night into monday. >> what?
