"traffic pulse 11." back to you. >> our big story, new details about the shooting death of a baltimore city police officer. >> we are learning more than 40 shots were fired sunday morning all from officers' weapons. jennifer franciotti is live at baltimore city police headquarters with the reaction from the police commissioner. >> good morning. 33-year-old officer william torbit was shot and killed sunday morning. he was on duty and was responding to a call at a downtown nightclub when the incident occurred. according to police, it has been determined all of the firearms discharged during the incident belonged to police officers. it was early sunday morning on paca street. witnesses say torbit got into a fight with another man, sean gamble. investigators believe gamble was killed by torbit who had drawn his service weapon to fend off the fight. uniformed officers say torbit was firing but didn't realize that he was a cop at the time because he was in plainclothes. they opened fire hitting him and apparently others. three women were wounded. another police officer was shot in the foot. now four officers are suspended with pay pending results of the investigation. >> in total there were five police officers including officer torbit who discharged their weapons. at this time we have tkweurconf that 41 rounds were discharged during the incident. >> we are told most of the incident was caught on tape by the city crime cameras so they will go through that. it is helping them piece together the investigation. meantime, it is important to note the four officers suspended with pay are not rookies. they are experienced from nine to 17 years on the police force. live, jennifer franciotti, wbal tv 11 news. >> we spoke with the stepsister of the other man killed in the gunfire. kelsey tucker says she was with shawn gamble when the shootings took place. tucker says uniformed officers starting firing without warning. >> answers will be given for my brother's dying. i don't care whether it happens today, next week, next month, next year. answers will be given, period. >> gamble didn't have a criminal record. he leaves a fiance and 2-year-old son. >> the preliminary hearing for the man accused of killing a university of virginia lacrosse player has been postponed. he waived his right to appear monday morning in charlottesville. he is being held without bond in the first degree murder charge of yeardley love. now he faces five new charges including felony murder, robbery and grand larceny. an attorney says the prosecution wants to make sure he is not convicted for manslaughter but something more. >> one would expect that the defense will argue here that this was a killing that took place during the heat of passion. an argument between two people who were very close where things got out of hand. >> love was found in may of last year after blunt force trauma. huguely said the two had just ended a relationship. >> lee jackson day is a virginia holiday that celebrates the lives of robert e. lee and stonewall jackson but it causes controversy over how it is being observed. the local sons of gone questioned rate veterans chapter ask the city council to put two versions of the confederate flag up monday prior to the holiday and leave them up for a week until martin luther king day. the city council refused but agreed it the week be that way most of the day. i think the snow will hold off until this evening or tonight. so, this morning's chute should be ok. 26 airport. 25 westminster. 18 in parkton. clouds have been thickening up and that prevented the temperatures from really dropping off into the teens in most locations. we are watching a system coming up the coast and it is trying to snow. there have been some areas of snow in the upper atmosphere but it is too dry to make it to the ground. so it will take a couple of hours for the atmosphere to saturate. that probably won't happen until the middle of the day. maybe snow flurries around lunchtime and when you drive home from work you may see light snow. even then i don't think it will be a big deal. most of it will hold off until tonight. it is complicated. we have an area of low pressure on the carolina coast and an area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere in the midwest. this storm will transfer its energy to this one and this will take off up the coast. the good news for us is i think it will take off and deepen once it gets past maryland. we will get snow but we won't get the heavy snow. that will be saved for the folks in new england. it has been a rough winter up there and it looks look this will slam them again. the snow here will start accumulating late evening. overnight. end 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. then one to four inches of accumulation is a pretty good bet for most of you watching. every in white we will see one to four inches before it ends tonight except maybe northeast maryland. as the storm races up the coast we could get heavier snow to wrap around so harford, cecil county may get three to six inches. but most of you one to four inches before it is all over late tonight. the forecast is like this. mostly cloudy today, chilly, light snow or flurries developing. high is in the her end of the 30's. overnight, snow is likely. it will end late tonight after midnight and winds will kick up a took the live of a baltimore city police officer. police confirm there were more than 40 shots fired in all by officers. jennifer franciotti has the latest on the investigation live from city police headquarters. >> good morning. it has been determined all of the police officers involved in the situation are veterans of the police department and no one knows how such a terrible mistake could have happened. william torbit was shot dead sunday morning on duty and responding to a call at a nightclub. police commissioner confirms all of the firearms discharged were from police officers. also killed 22-year-old shawn gamble a patron of the club. investigators and witnesses say gamble and torbit got involved in a fight at the parking lot as people were heading for their cars. >> some man in a gray sweatshirt approached shawn. we didn't know who he was. next thing i know shots go off. >> investigators believe gamble was killed by torbit who drew his weapon to fend off the fight. uniformed officers saw torbit firing but didn't realize he was a police officer because he was in plainclothes. they hit him and apparently others. three women were wounded, another officer was shot in the foot. four officers were suspended with pay pending results of the investigation. >> in total there were five police officers including officer torbit who dischargeded their weapons. at this time we have confirmed that 41 rounds were discharged during the incident. >> and right now police are still trying to put this together. they are looking at the crime cameras which did catch most of the reportedly flashed a woman while working at a funeral hole in baltimore county. >> the incident was thursday around 9:30 in the morning right in front of ridgely middle school. a woman was walking her dog on lynncrest road when she saw a silver minivan and a man in a business suit inside. according to the report the woman thought the man needed directions but instead he exposed his unclothed thighs and general tallahassee. she reported that he was masturbate being, smirked and made no effort to rush away. >> it is creepy. >> william smith lives in the neighborhood. >> wierd. i don't understand what someone would be thinking especially when if is freezing outside. >> investigators eventually traced the van's license plate to sol levin son funeral services. management identified the employee as 48-year-old donald warfield. he was out doing official business for the funeral home at the time of the flashing. turns out he is former baltimore county police officer and this is not the first time he has been accused in an indecent exposure related case. he plead guilty to a similar incident in 1996 and baltimore county police say warfield resigned from the department soon after. e-mails have circulated the neighborhood explaining what happened. neighbors say they are shocked and disgusted but also relieved that the suspect has been caught. >> there are kids walking to school and bus. he was right there. i mean i must have driven by the guy because i left for work like quarter of 10 that day. >> warfield is charged with indecent exposure in glen rock, pennsylvania. he worked for baltimore county police department in 1996. we have an update on last week's burglary turned shooting in baltimore county. police say the suspect robert bus entered a home with intent to kill. we are told he fled relieve exchanging gunfire with the homeowner who owns a barber shop in which the suspect had his haircut. his body was found later in his truck at a nearby restaurant. he had taken his own life. two construction workers are injured in an explosion in a manhole in west baltimore. it was around 12:30 yesterday while several workers were doing electrical work on preston treat. crews say the explosion sparked a fire causing smoke to billow from some manholes. the cause is under investigation. it is 5:35 and 26 degrees on tv hill. a certain antidepressant may help stroke patients. most of the snow be over with by 3:00 to 4:00 in the morning or early wednesday. most of you will get one to four inches. everything in whit one to four inches is a pretty good bet. there could be mixing on the aoereastern eastern shore and delaware and rain or sleet. up the coast northeast maryland may get more. northern harford, cecil county, northern part of the eastern shore may get three to six inches. most of us one to four inches looks like a pretty good bet before it ends late tonight. the forecast, light snow likely later today. cloudy and chill with highs in the lower end of the 30's. ov overnight snow likely. it will end late after midnight. temperatures dropping back into the 20's. during the day tomorrow the storm will get together up in new england and become a blizzard for them. it has been a rough winter up there and looks like another storm will slam into new york, boston and parts of vermont and new hampshire. on the back side for us breezy, cold, sun and clouds on wednesday. the weather should be pretty quiet the rest of the week. could be snow flurries tomorrow but the accumulating snow should end tonight. 34 for a high, 38 thursday, 41 on friday. maybe the low 40's, 43 saturday is what i'm trying to say. >> all that cold weather in the northeast is taking a toll on wildlife. hundreds of sea turtles have been stranded and sickened because of the chilly waters. the national aquarium in baltimore has stepped up to help nurse them back to health. kim dacey has more. >> 11 sea turtles are in tanks at the national aquarium and they have been on quite a trip. they were rescued from the shores of cape cod, massachusetts. the new england aquarium is overwhelmed with stranded turtles because of the unusually cold weather and cold water. >> i think this year water temperatures were just cooled off so quickly. we had some pretty close to record-breaking temperatures in maryland ourselves. so i think it was just all depending on the different wa r weather. >> the marine animal rescue program took them in last month and are slowly nursing them back to health. the cold water leads to cold stunning like hypotherm kwrafplt they are treated for pneumonia, blood infection and tar vacation. >> they are on antibiotics depending on what condition they are treated for. so, a couple of them are getting pulled once day for antibiotics administered or other treatment. then most of them are pulled every three days for antibiotics. >> they are slowly being rehabilitateed a will be released in a few months. it is critically in danger. >> everybody that we can rehabilitate and release to the natural environment will help add to the genetics. we hope to release them probably some time in maryland when the water temperature is warm enough probably in june. >> the care for the animals runs several hundred dollars a day and the program runs only on grants and donations. if you would like to contribute you can find a link at wbaltv.com. >> looks like they are enjoying the personal attention. like a manicure and massage. >> i hope they are ok. it is 5:49. 26 degrees on tv hill. a lot more ahead on "11 news today." >> including a look at one of your answers to our water cooler question of the day. >> here is a look at last night's winning maryland lottery numbers. good luck.
