shooting involving one of their own. an officer saw a man firing a handgun at his neighbors. after the officer got out of the car, the shooter open fire. the officer returned fire, hitting the suspect in the hand and he was taking -- taken to the hospital. a baltimore neighborhood icon in little italy died earlier this week. he took part in the open air film festival allowing a projector to be beamed out of his son's bedroom window. he had lived in the same home for seven decades and he was 100 years old. baltimore leaders will join members of the community to celebrate the life of 70 year- old milton hill. his death followed a violent week in baltimore city. he was at the church where he volunteered. police believe that he was killed for his motorized scooter which they hope someone will recognize. a vigil for hill will be held up the church at 6:00 p.m.. a man convicted of one of the most notorious sex abuse cases may soon be released from prison. a federal judge cleared the way for to be released before his sentence is complete. a lawyer for the victim is speaking out. horrified is the best way i can describe it. >> those are the words of the victims' attorney. she represented many of the victims in civil suits against the archdiocese of baltimore and says that more than 15 years after he was convicted, the details are still chilling. >> this man has rate and threatened so many kids over such a long period of time. >> of the former catholic school teacher was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing one of his former students, liz murphy. since being in prison, he has argued that his lawyer never told him about a plea deal that would have allowed him to spend 10 years in prison. it was one that he would have accepted. on friday, a judge ruled that he was wrong and that the -- that he was wronged should be released. there will be an appeal and she believes the judge will not accept the deal either. >> if there was a judge in baltimore city that would have accepted a plea bargain again. >> after the ruling was announced, 11 news talked with murphy who said that she is furious over the situation. >> if i don't do everything within my power to make sure that this man never sees the light of day. >> the city district attorney's office said they are disappointed and are trying to figure out if they will appeal. engineers working at the side of the gulf oil spill plan to start as early as monday on the static kill which is using cement to close the whale and possibly plug the leak for good. the procedure requires cement to be poured into the top and then from the low. officials say that the static hill will also give them insight into other leaks that still need to be plugged. it has been more than 100 days since the april 20 explosion that sent millions of gallons of oil into the gulf. bp is looking for a new face to address america's concerns over the oil spill disaster. they are looking for a deck, but it is more than we had at sunset this evening. some of this contains showers off to our south and west. what is going on is the high pressure that has given us a great two days is beginning to slide a little further offshore. there will be a couple of them out there and they will bring a chance of rain. in the southern plains, the humidity with -- will be drifting in over the next few days. that is our forecast for a while. in the tropics, this is puerto rico. the forecasters are watching this area and the longer-range models showed this coming out of this area of the week after this, not next week, but the week after. we will see what happens with that. our forecast for tonight has a few showers possible. the southeast winds will be about five m.p.h.. i think that the temperatures may not make it out of the 70's. scattered thundershowers are in the forecast, but that is just scattered. not everybody will be affected. for boaters on the bay, a south wind of 10 knots. in looking at the instaweather plus 7 day forecast, we have more humidity and a little higher range chance. all of this is scattered. the week looks really busy with iran, but it is on again off again. -- a little busy with rain, but it is on again off again. it will stay that way through thursday. the rain chances go up again on thursday and will trail off towards the end of the week. >>
