And were able to get the the transcript and as we were able to do and say women Ok All right so you're leaving out pert and parts of the story to give an impression that really isn't factual right there so many ways to face what because it makes you if you come away from that that article it makes you believe that this was a clear case of victory. They're not things to deal with in life that are going to take that joy out of life either momentarily or or you know maybe a little bit for a long time that we have to deal with I'm not going to hand that to somebody else based on rhetoric based on politics or based on anything else even things that are you know I mean you might see as a defeat you know the 2 nights after we came in 2008 election 2000 and. 12 election we we didn't come in and oh my gosh it's the end of the world actually we laughed a lot those those nights we understood why it happened we understood what was going on with. What the sentiment of the voting public was in each of those elections we disagreed with it but disagree with it and it didn't it wasn't going to serve us and we we knew that there was it was going to mean harm to people and that does concern is greatly that is never a laughing matter but the point is is that there is if if the American voting public is moving in that direction and I'm doing what I am doing then there is little more that I could do about that and so. Being active as a voter. Doing what we do for a living and discussing the ideas. We believe is the right approach I mean even with a bullhorn standing down at City Hall Well you don't always get your point across because people see you as just another loud mouth or just another protester and people go on about their day if we're going to have. A discussion about the ideas then I think that long term has a greater. Chance of getting through to people on what needs to be done to write 10 was into the last call and he said he agreed with it when. I said Look you're never going to have the loyal or anti the the loyal Democrats who are going to support Donald try to matter what they're not going to come aboard so when you say look they need to get behind the president well they're not no it's not going to happen what you hope to do is what you did in this last election we've said this many times you hope to be able to change 5 per 5 to 10 percent of the people in the country at a particular election that have been affected by something and you explain to them and they relate to you and. And they have felt that themselves. There's a very small number of people that are willing to change in a short period of time their political beliefs it just doesn't happen. It is a long you have to be in it for the long haul and we have seen elections where. I can still remember I remember when Jesse Ventura ran for governor of Minnesota and the calls were just too ridiculous he's a kind of he's going to change it he's going to look stop it we've been in this for a long time it doesn't it doesn't change overnight. And when you looked at what somebody like Jesse Ventura was talking about anyway was basically a moderate to liberal agenda to begin with right so he wasn't offering anything new as we've said when people say well we need to offer what we need people with new ideas guess what there are no new ideas they've all been tried there may be new technologies right but when it comes to economic ideas and other things basically we through history we know what works and what doesn't work and and so it is a. From I'll just speak for myself being in this business now 28 years and the last 12 years well when I 1st started doing a show it was one hour then it went to 2 hours then it went to 3 hours then it went to 4 hours now I'm doing 5 hours it will not go to 6. 5 is enough but we look we know every day every single day we come in and do this with the understanding that we're not going to change the world today. We may have somebody write us and say Thanks you made me think of always been a Liberal you made me think well that's good enough for this day and as I've said understanding the way this country was set up understanding the 3 branches of government understanding the checks and balances I realize that the country never makes drastic swings quickly and never just doesn't happen right and so what you need to do is you're in it for the long run which means you're in it for the rest of your life and what does it come down to it comes down to every single day at least for us having the debate. Pointing out the strengths of your side pointing out the facts and showing the weaknesses or just the complete lack of an argument from the other side that is based on emotion or do you change it in one day no jus change it in one week no you change it in 8 years maybe a little bit use We've seen the swing in this country but even 8 years is a long time but it's a relatively short time in in the realm of history but still it's a long time for people to understand look there's actually a movement going on here what's happening all the states you know the conservative movement Republicans getting in it's only when we come to the president where you have because of the huge liberal states that exist in this country. A population that's willing to vote you know for a a Democratic president right or you know maybe a Democratic governor or whatever but there's been a major shift in the last 8 years even as the country I still believe is moving more left than it was 10 years ago. Understand it so just understand that it's the long haul trump support should meet a people that hate Donald Trump are not going to love him tomorrow they're not going to love next year but not going to love meth for 4 years if he gets reelected again they're not going to love me for 8 years we're going to hate him it's just the way that it is you hope that the independents in there the middle that maybe you can change their opinion a little bit and maybe you can catch new you know young people and help not control their mind but help them look and say Ok how does a real world work not the real world of Washington d.c. Not the real world of the Philadelphia mayor on the soda tax right saying well you know these soda tax companies they took that tax and they didn't pay of court they passed it on the consumer thank you very much appreciate that stating the obvious they're criticizing the obvious. And I understand that's what we try to do take politics out of it especially in economics as we've talked about before and just think to yourself how do people respond to incentives and disincentives and that said if you can argue the ideas and discuss the ideas on their merits the people come and go the rhetoric is always going to be existing existent and the in any political year are non political year the rhetoric the rhetoric is going to be there so cutting through the rhetoric and having the actual discussion and just you know we don't read a lot of letters because you know a letter is a compliment or you don't want to come up as being egotistical but just to let me know as we do get letters from people we do get e-mails people saying you made me think you made me think you made me think you made me think all right I'm a Democrat and you had some good ideas for somebody to just to write that letter in itself means more than anything in the world was because then you understand you may not be able to change every mind it's one mind at a time and again my goal and I don't think Eric Stoltz ever been our goal is to change people's minds we hope that they will change their minds but it's based on them with critical thinking develop developing critical thinking skills to look at and say Ok what's the reality not what the politicians are throwing at right. And so the I can't believe it it came up a couple weeks ago when it went up like 220 you know it was in New York I think it was some people were talking about collusion of the oil companies they still talk about it all the time up in New York because the gasoline prices are higher actually known there are no there aren't many refineries around here and taxes are higher right now had thoughts as well but the same arguments are still there and for all the government investigations of collusion never found any collusion no did they know because it came down to supply and demand and how do we know it well because if they truly control the oil prices no matter what well then gasoline would still be $4.00 a gallon right they would never were if there was never a fix and they'd never go down to the with how much they've gone down you would see still be at $147.00 a barrel which is roughly where we were remember back in the end. In 2008 when when you had a significant number of Democrats that finally started saying oh yeah now now's the time to drill because it was for $5.00 a gallon out in California and so it's funny because we would have call after call after call and then when gas prices go down for years you don't hear anything about the collusion or maybe there's a collusion to keep prices low so they can sell more and keep. The American worker or the of the of the hard working American citizen staying in those high pollution vehicles right why are the environmentalists have to say that don't think I because now because they remember the cahoots they're in cahoots remember with the automakers but they all automakers make more off of their bigger vehicles.
