A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons. She quoted Jackie Kennedy suggesting youre a little man moved by fear and pride. Shes a very dishonest person. I have a winning temperament. She has bad temperament. Shes weak. We need a strong temperament. And thats all it is. I have a strong temperament. I know how to win. Polls do show concern about this, whether you can be trusted with the nuclear todays. I think thats probably because, hillary, thats all they talk about is temperament. I beat 16 very talented people in and ive never done this before. You dont do that with a bad temperament. Im leading her in the polls, as you probably have noticed. And i think i have a great temperament. I ha know how to win. She doesnt know how to win. Shes not a winner. She doesnt know how to win. Honestly, she lies a lot. And she really she should tell the truth. I honestly believe if she told the truth, because she made reference to my campaigning. Ive had a beautiful ive had a flawless campaign. Youll be writing books about my campaign. And yet shes criticizing my campaign. Her campaign, she couldnt beat bernie . She did beat him. Barely. And theres questions even about if you look at whats going on in terms of unity, the bernie people are angry. Theyre angry. He was angry. What was amazing to me was when she was talking about bernie last night, the camera was on him. He was angry. It almost looks like he has buyers remorse. Like he shouldnt have made the deal. You made a lot of headlines with russia this week. What is your relationship with Vladimir Putin . I have no relationship with putin. I have no relationship with putin. But if you have no relationship with putin, why did you say in relationship . In 2014, i spoke because hes said nice things about me over the years. Many years ago, he said something very nice about me. I said something good about him when larry king was on. This was a long time ago. And i said, he is a tough cookie or something to that effect. He said something nice about me. This has been going on. We did 60 minutes together. By the way, not together together. Meaning he was probably shot in heres the thing. Just so you understand. He said very nice things about me. But i have no relationship with him. Yet you said for three years, 13, 14, and 15, you did have a relationship with him. What do you call a relationship . Im asking you. I have no relationship with putin. I dont think i ever met him. I never met him. You would know it if you did. I think so. If hes in the same room, i dont think so. Ive been to moscow. Never spoken to him on the phone . I didnt meet him in moscow. Where . Never spoken to him on the phone . I have never spoken to him on the phone, no. Ive spoken when we had the Miss Universe contest a number of years ago. We had Miss Universe in the moscow area. He was invited. He wanted to come. He wasnt able to come. I dont know what it means by having a relationship. He was saying good things about me. I didnt meet him. I havent spent time with him. I didnt go hiking with him. I dont know him i wouldnt know him from adam. I see his picture. I know what he looks like. Vice President Biden said, Vladimir Putin wants to beat hillary. Mad lynne all madeleine all bright said your win would be a gift to him. Your statements about conditioning our nato allies, softening the gop platform on ukraine. Considering softening and recognizing the russian ann annexation of crimea. If our country got along with russia, that would be a good thing. Putin goes out and tells everybody, you talk about relationship. Putin says donald trump will win. Donald trump is a genius. I have people saying you should disavow. I should disavow that . Putin says good things and we have the possibility of having a Good Relationship with russia . I think thats good. If we have a good annexation of crimea . Hey, george. You know me. I dont bow. If russia would help me get rid of isis, youre talking about tremendous amounts of money and lives, that would be a positive thing. Even if that means conditioning your commitments to nato . As you said . No, because youre not going to do that. Nato is going to be just fine. Nato countries. We have 28 countries. Many of them are taking advantage of us because theyre not paying. Were protecting the countries theyre not paying. Im all in favor of nato. I said nato is obsolete. I was asked a question by one of your competitors. I said nato is obsolete because its not taking care of terror. You understand that. It turned out i was right. A lot of people gave me credit for that. Then, three months ago, on the front page of the wall street journal they said, nato to develop a terror division. And somebody who is supposed to be very extraordinary is put in charge of it. That was all because of me. So i was right about that. That nato, were being taken advantage of by nato countries. Totally taken advantage of. Why did you soften the gop platform on ukraine . I wasnt involved in that. Your people were. Yeah, i was not involved in that. I would like to i would have to take a look at it. I was not involved. Do you know what they did . They softened it, i heard. But i was not involved. They took way part of the platform calling for provisions of lethal weapons to ukraine to look, i have my own ideas. Hes not going into ukraine, just so you understand. You can mark it down, take it down. Put it any way you want. Hes there already. Hes there in a certain way. But im not there. You have obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under obama. Under the power of nato. He takes crimea. Hes sort of, i mean but you said you might recognize that. Im going to take a look at i have heard, would rather be with russia than where they were. And you have to look at that also. And that was under, just so you understand, that was done under obamas administration. As far as the ukraine is concerned, its a mess. Thats under the obama administration, with his strong ties to nato. So with all of these strong ties to nato, ukraine is a mess, crimea has been taken. Dont blame donald trump with that. Well do better. Well have batter relationsh maybe. And having a Good Relationship with russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. You said you have no investments in russia. Do you owe any money to russian individuals and institutions . No. None. The primary thing i did with russia. I bought a house in palm beach out of bankruptcy. It was a bankrupt person. I bought from the the banks. I bought it for about 40 million. I sold it for 100 million to a russian. That was probably five years ago. The grand will i sell many years ago. I dont think theyre russian. There were various partners. Will i sell condos to russians on occasion . Probably. I mean, i do that. I have a lot of condos. I do that. I have no relationship to russia. Whatsoever. No debts. No debts. I have very little debt to anybody. I dont need debt. Im so liquid, i dont need debt. If i need de i can get it from banks in new york city very easily. You know where im going to take this next. Americans could be assured on that if they saw your tax returns. Got it done in a year. Michael bloomberg couldnt get elected dogcatcher in new york. In the past, you said he was a great mayor. Sure. But his last term was terrible. He didnt do a good job in his last term. Shouldnt have gone to third term. Snow removal was a disaster. He had a lot of problems. He had a big problem with ferry point in the bronx. I got it built. I got it open. Its built. Its very successful. I think, personally, i think he made a deal with hillary where he gets a job. Because Michael Bloomberg has wanted to run for president for probably as long as you have known him. And guess what . He never had the guts to do it. Now i see this guy up on stage saying negative things. He knows nothing about me. Hes never been to my office. I dont know him well. You played golf together . Maybe once. And during the season, its very hard to get employees. The local employment agencies say they have more than 1,000 people we have a lot of people. Beach during the palm beach season, its called the palm beach social season. And what we do is we sometimes have to bring people in. As far as product, our country doesnt make product anymore. You have other countries devalue their currencies. They make it impossible. You look at suits, ties, shirts, you look at steel. You look at so many different things, its our country does make those products. Much of the material comes from overseas. Its very if you want to get a television today. I buy thousands of television sets. If i want to get a television, i would love to buy americanmade televisions like ge and sylvania. Today, its samsung, lg, sony. We dont make televisions anymore. Youre saying other American Companies must come and create jobs here, and youre not willing to do it yourself. This is nothing new. What youre saying. I talk about this in my speech. When i do ties, i bid them o you have companies in Different Countries where they devalue their currency. They make it impossible for American Companies to compete. The hat, make America Great again. I fought like crazy to find a company in this country that could make the hats. And i found one. And theyre americanmade. Three debates and one vp debate . I dont like that its against two nfl games. I got a letter from the nfl the nfl doesnt want to go against the debates because the debates will be massive, from what i understand. And i dont think we should be against the nfl. I dont know how the dates were picked. I dont know why those particular dates. You dont like the dates out there . I dont like dates against Hillary Clinton wants to be against the nfl. Maybe like she did with Bernie Sanders. On saturday nights when nobodys home. Theyre against the nfl. I saw the dates. Two of the three are against the nfl. Im not thrilled with that. Speaking at the Democratic Convention last night. His son, captain humayan khan, was killed serving in iraq. He had some very tough questions for you. Have you read the United States constitution . I will gladly lend you my copy. He said you wouldnt have let his son in america. He doesnt know. He doesnt know that. I saw him. He was, you know, very emotional. And probably looked like a nice guy to me. His wife, if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably maybe she wasnt allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. Plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet. And looked like she had nothing to say. A lot of people have said that. And personally, i watched him. I wish him the best of luck. What would you say to that father . I would say, we have had a lot of problems with radical islamic terrorism. We have a lot of problems. Where, you look at san bernardino, orlando, the world trade center, so many different things. You look at what happened to the priest over the weekend in paris, where his throat was cut, 85yearold. Beloved catholic priest. Ago. I would say, you gotta take a look at that. Because something is going on, its not good. He said you have sacrificed nothing and no one. Well that sounds who wrote that . Did hillarys scriptwriter write that . We had john allen, who failed with isis. He was a general. Allen, general allen. He went out, ranting and raving. I read a report. He was in there for a number of months. He failed with isis. And hes telling me . You saw hillary say last night, you dont know more than the generals. Well, i tell you, the generals are not doing so well right now. I have a feeling it may be obamas fault. If you look at isis, general macarthur, general patton, theyre spinning in their graves. General allen, after i saw he was on ranting and raving about me, who he never met, i checked up. Guess what . They were not so happy with him. He didnt beat isis. He didnt beat isis. He didnt do well with isis. Father . What sacrifice have you made for your country . I think i made a lot of sacrifices. Ive worked very, very hard. Ive created thousands and thousands of jobs. Tens of thousands of jobs. Built great structures. Done ive had tremendous success. Those are sacrifices . Oh, sure. I think those are sacrifices. I think when i can employ thousands and thousands of people, take care of their education, take care of so many things. People to get the Vietnam Memorial built in downtown manhattan. Which, to this day, people thank me for. Ive raised millions of dollars for the vets. Im helping the vets a lot. I think my popularity with the vets is through the roof. Far greater than hers. Shes done nothing. All shes done is tell everybody that the vets are in good shape. Theyre fine. Theyre not. People are waiting in line for seven days to see a doctor. Whats the number one thing you have to do . I want to continue to campaign the way im doing. Im leaving here going to a speech packed with thousands of people. Theyre making in many cases less money now, george, than they made 18 years ago. Theyre working harder. Theyre older. Its unfair. Our countrys a mess. Thats why when she makes the speech, she doesnt talk about radical islam. She doesnt talk about the problems we have in the country and throughout the world. Many of the problems, she caused. I mean, she created isis with knowledge, with her bad judgment. Bernie sanders said something about Hillary Clinton that was very interesting. He said Hillary Clinton had bad judgment. Great words, bad judgment. She has bad judgment. Final question. Are you worried that the Democratic Convention will bounce her ahead of you in the polls . I dont know. I mean, look. I had a very big bounce. I think you even said it was one of the biggest bounces in 20 years. Been a long time since somebody had a bounce like that. Look, i think the Republican Convention was great, or i as you said, i had 3 Million People more than she had on the final night. She had a thursday, i had a thursday, she had a speech, i had a speech, i had 3 Million People more than she did. And they had a lot of people. There were a lot of people. I had 30 million. Mr. Trump put out a tweet and said captain khan, killed 12 years ago, was a hero. But this is about radical islamic terror. And the weakness of our leaders to eradicate it. Has disputed a claim that mr. Trump made in the interview that the nfl wrote him a letter to complain about the debate schedule. An nfl representative said that was not true. If he had spent a minute in the deserts of afghanistan or in the deserts of iraq, i might listen in that regard, there has been progress with respect to the war against isis. We knew it was going to be a tough fight. I dont have to justify myself to him. What we do have to do, george, is listen to what hes been saying about our military. Hes called it a disaster. He says our military cant win anymore. Thats a direct insult to every single man and woman who is wearing the uniform today. Hes talked about needing to torture. Hes talked about needing to murder the families of alleged terrorists. Hes talked about carpetbombing isil. Who do you think will get carpetbombed when all that occurs . Innocent families. Let me stop you right there. If, indeed, mr. Trump became president , how would the military respond to those kinds of orders if he followed through on some of the things he has said in this campaign . Thats a great question. I think we would be facing a Civil Military crisis. The likes of which we have not seen before in this country. The mantle of our responsibility in uniform. When we swear an oath to support and defend the constitution, which is a document and a set of principles, it supports the rule of law. One of those is to make sure we do not obey illegal orders. Its an inherent responsibility in who we are. So what we need to do is ensure we dont create an environment that puts us on a track conceivably where the united a Civil Military crisis with a commander in chief who would have us do illegal things. My hope would be that the conversation would take place quietly in the oval office or somewhere else to advise him not to continue on this track. But thats a major issue were facing here. The military could be ordered to conduct illegal activities. Mr. Trump said if he were president , our relationship with russia would be better and that against isis. The russians have not helped us at all in the fight against isis. When you total up the number of sortis going into syria. The aircraft attack as, when the russians said they were going the assist, we got a very small number of sortis. Theyre not dropping munitions as we do. They drop dumb bombs. They drop cluster munitions, which have created huge numbers of civilian casualties. When we talk about bombing isil, thats what it looks like. Creating huge numbers of civilian casualties. It creates huge numbers of refugees. I guess mr. Trump wouldnt disagree. He is saying they would because if he were president , we would have a better relationship with russia. Well, well see. The russians selfinterests are paramount. I was wondering what you were thinking while you were speaking what was your reaction when you were speaking . There were cheers. But some boos from the crowd. Many saying no more war, no more war. Does it trouble you at all that it appears that the Democratic Party is very divided over these issues . George, i didnt detect there was division at all. In fact, the sense i came away from the floor of that convention was i mean, i couldnt believe what i was seeing. This acclamation. This incredible public acclamation in support of the United States. In support for our in support for international engagement. In support for using our military in the proper and ways ordained by the constitution. When i looked across the sea of faces in the convention, i couldnt have been more proud to be an american than i was right then. Because that acclamation was enormous. Frankly, i didnt hear the no more war. Im sure they said it. They were out there. Im sure they said it. What i heard was usa, usa, usa. I dont want any more war either. None of us does. We need to have a commander in chief who knows what shes doing. A commander in chief who can lead from the front on these issues. Knows how to employ u. S. Military and u. S. Force. All the measures of u. S. Power. Knows how to employ those properly. Thats the challenge here. Thats what i think Hillary Clinton can bring to this. You have seen this exchange between mr. Trump and the khan family. How did it hit you . I couldnt believe it. I simply couldnt believe it. It think a lot of the worst tendencies. This digression to term why she hadnt spoken . Its not possible to put into words the sense of loss and grief that comes to family losing their children. This family is an immigrant family. A muslim family thats come to the United States with hopes for the future, to be part of the american dream. They had a son. A handsome young man who chose to join the finest army in the history of the world. The United States army. Troops back to inspect a potential vehicle. It was a suicide vehicle. He was killed. That act of nobility is an incredible act. For all of americans to understand what that act of nobility was and to then understand the sense of grief the families have as a result of that is really important, george. And she didnt speak because she was grieving. She was weeping as she left the stage. I saw them before and afterwards. The other piece thats important over comments about islam. The family is angry about comments about muslims. The vilification of muslims. Yes, there are problems in the world today. That kind of language exacerbates the problem. That kind of language radicalizes people. Puts our troops in danger overseas. And our First Responders and police here at home, it puts them in danger as well. We need to understand what were saying matters. These words matter. That family was humiliated by that was unfair and a shameful thing. Finally, sir, as you know, many critics of you and other former generals speaking out at political conventions. Including the former chairman of the join chiefs of staff, martin dempsey, writing in the washington post, he said as generals, speaking of general flynn, as well. As generals, they have an obligation to uphold our apolitical traditions. Theyve just made the tasks of their successors who continue to serve in complicated. It was a mistake for them to participate as they did. It was a mistake for our president ial candidates to ask them to do so. Your response . Ive agonized over this decision again and again when i listen to the rhetoric. When i worry about the future. When i worry about how this military might be employed. When i hear the denigration of our military. It was not an easy decision for me to come off the bench and i dont intend to remain active in this effort. I wanted to make it clear that i supported this candidate, Hillary Clinton, to be the president and the commander in chief. And i decried these comments that put us on a potential track for a military crisis the likes of which we have ever seen in this country. I dont intend to stay out there, be politically active. Jon, we have to begin with this whole thing with trump and the khans. Khizr trump has taken this broader. Hes asked senator mcconnell and seeker ryan to take a moral stand against trump. Yeah, and we have not heard yet from mcconnell or ryan directly in response. This puts them in a very difficult position. I dont think this is necessarily going to sway any voters. Trump said in january, i could shoot somebody on fifth avenue and it wouldnt matter. This puts Republican Leaders in a tough spot. And they have been silent on this. We have seen this many, many times. Just about a year ago today, he made the comments about john it didnt seem to hurt him at all in the primaries. Had the whole controversy with judge curiel. It didnt seem to matter. Will this . I dont think so. I think people made their minds up about donald trump or Hillary Clinton, love em or hate em, love em or hate em. I think the small sliver of people who are undecided, who can be swayed either way, will make their decision during the e debates, thats if theyre not watchi donald trump. I think he has teflon and she has teflon. Teflon, alex . If youre mike pence this is the last thing you want to have to deal with on monday on the trail. Mike pence has a son in the marines. Republicans are being asked to take a position against the parents of the war dead or donald trump. Thats a tough position to be in. About a third of americans dont think donald trump or Hillary Clinton have the character and judgment to be president. The conventions have been speaking to those folks saying, you may not like me, but ill keep you safe. Hillary clinton in the clip at is not a normal president ial candidate. Hes banking on the idea that people like that. That they will think hes not normal and thats good. What this comes down to. The things he said about russia that were just wrong. The things about this family that were just offensive. A lot of voters will say, but hillary. And thats why im uncertain if this is actually going to move polls. Donald the disrupter. Hes a disrupter. Thats why hes winning. Certainly on the republican side. These comments prove hes a bigot without a shadow of a doubt. He takes a fallen u. S. Soldier and puts him in the same camp as radical islamic terrorists. He says to the father, there are radical i had lammic trysts. These guys were, you cant get any more patriotic than dying for the country. Hes putting them in the same camp. Hes an unbelievably obnoxious character. Remember, he didnt go to vietnam. He said he had a medical problem. He got a medical deferment. Healthiest man alive. Hes healthier at 70 than he was when he was younger . He ran from vietnam and then has the nerve to criticize people that died for the country . Its not regular obnoxious. This is beyond the pale. He did say captain khan was a hero. Overnight. Yeah. Lets talk about overall. Donald trump got a bounce out of his convention. Not sure it was the best in 20 years. It was a healthy one. You saw the democrats with the series of speeches monday through thursday. After the trouble on the first i think youll see a big bounce out of the Democratic Convention. They had good coverage. Four days. You know, trump, trump had a bit of a bounce. I think well see a fivepoint lead coming out of this for Hillary Clinton. A fivepoint lead for Hillary Clinton. One of the things donald trump pointed out was more people tuned in to watch him. He has the power to draw eyeballs. Hes still this unknown quaentty to a lot of people. What will he do as president. Hes been in headlines for 30some years. Say . Whats the next position hes going to take . So certainly, he knows that sort of his worst enemy is not saying something offensive or wrong, but warather being out of the headlines. He knows that thats where hes done best thus far in the polls. One of the things from the democrats, where are Donald Trumps plans . Yeah, he doesnt have any. We watched a whole rnc. The only policy position we could discern from that is coal. Were for coal digging. Its youre going to keep us safe . How . No plans. I mean, who runs for president and says, ill figure it out once i get into office. He said that literally during one of the debates. He is a loser. He has no plans whatsoever. You put way too much attention on the conventions. Like american idol, who did better . American bandstand. Who did the best . In a week, people are going to say, what convention . Were so steeped in it. We dissect it. Every flaw, every guest. 20 Million People a night for from now, do you really think people are going to be saying, i made up my decision at the convention . I think they had better music. I think so many other things will happen between now and november. That is almost for certain. That will drive the vote more than this is someone campaigning through the looking glass, george. The democrats hit trump for having no plans. Trump, also in a statement after hillarys speech, said she has no plans. Its literally, im rubber, you are glue. Its it is a mudwrestle. So that goes to the heart of it. If this campaign is about Hillary Clinton, she loses. If this campaign is about donald trump, he loses. Theyre both deeply unpopular. No, no. I think what will happen thats why the conventions matter. They set the tone. When they stand side by side on the debate stage. If they do. And the American People are undecided. If they do. Lets get to that. Theyre not going to. I want to ask you. I talked to mr. Trump. He said he wants to do three timing with the nfl. Hes also right that two of the debates are scheduled up against nfl games. This is clearly the start of some negotiation over the debates. Absolutely. Theres been a theory for some time that trump may look for a reason not to get on that debate stage. I think Hillary Clinton has a reason not to see the debates happen, too. To be side by side with donald trump not knowing what the heck he hes going to bring up. Theres clearly a negotiation here. It shouldnt be against the nfl. They should change that. Its like, look, why have it then . The same thing that happened to Martin Omalley and Bernie Sanders with the democratic debates. It should not be competing with something the American People also really like. Besides politics. I think the clinton team has steeled themselves. I think they think its very realistic to think there wont be more than one debate. And theyre trying to sort of hedge against that at this moment. Youre right about the saturday night debates. To have saturday night debates. And sanders saying it was rigged and the emails. The Clinton Campaign doesnt want it to seem like the debate ts are being hidden against the nfl. Im no expert, but i think its tough to find a night where football is not being played. I believe in 2008, 2012, wasnt it up against baseball . Its always going to be up against something. I think for a lot of voters that are interested in tuning in, im le for voters trying to consider who theyre going to vote for, its good. Tuesdays and wednesdays are good. Hillary clinton wants as many debates as possible if you ask me. She wants to get out there and say, your whole thing is about winning . Youre a loser. You went bankrupt four times. You say its a savvy business move. A savvy business move is making a profit. It can bring out the best in them, if its actually a debate on ideology. It could bring out the best in the bait from each other. Football, presidency, football, presidency. Wait. Which is more important . The savviest things the democrats did air that convention was make the message, not donald trump is a typical, horrible republican. But rather, donald trump is not a republican. Not a conservative. I did a little bit of flipping based on what the polls looked like before the convention. So in this case, i handed ohio to donald trump. I think in the places where its a tossup, i think hell do better in the white, working class states. But then a place like florida, i actually kept in Hillary Clintons camp. The large hispanic populations. Floridapennsylvania, hillary ive got trump at 279259. Trump . You said he was a loser a minute ago you have him winning the presidency hold on. In his life, hes had a great track record of failure, bankruptcies, running from vietnam. Hes a populist candidate. Hes running against the most establishment candidate. It was a terrible idea by the democrats to support Hillary Clinton for president. Youre thinking hes going to win . If the democrats are not really worried that in this populist time that donald trump doesnt have a chance to win, theyre wrong. I think he can win. The democrats better be worried about it. Its always been about tactic. Where weve disagreed, its been tactical disagreement. Should we do this in order to promote this goal . We both agree, this is the objective.
