Breaking news and Police Search a section of central park overnight after a tourist told police that a man offered up a young boy for sex. It reportedly happened near the bow bridge late last night and Eyewitness News reporter diana rocco is live now in central park with the latest for us now, gion a. Reporter lori, good morning. A search of the park turned up empty tonight, but this Morning Police are taking this threat very seriously. Police spent the better part of the night searching this west park. Just after midnight, a man in his 50s from california said he was on a walking trail near bow bridge which is near west 74th street. Him with an 11yearold boy and asked him if he wanted to have sex with the boy for 300. The tourist quickly said no and went back to his room and called 911. That man is described as having dark hair, about 35 years old, clean shaven, wearing a black jacket with a fur hood and blue jeans. The child who was with him was wearing a red or orange lightweight jacket. Again, police did not find any sign of them after a search of the park overnight. However this morning they will be reviewing area surveillance cameras. That is the very latest from central park, diana rocco, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Diane, a thank you. Developing right now, 18 people arrested overnight after a rowdy party in queens this. Is new video from the scene. Police responded to a banquet hall on jamaica avenue just before midnight. Thats where 18 people were tablingen into custody, charging one with Disorderly Conduct and one is charge with obstruction. Its not clear fiat Party Started at the banquet hall. Also learning more about the suspicious powder scare at trump tower this morning. Seeing new video of a wild protest outside of a donald trump rally out west. Eyewitness News Reporter dray clark is live now with trump tower with an update for us. Good morning, dray. Reporter good morning, lori. Overnight we learned four people, including a Police Officer were isolated and evaluated after they were exposed to that white powdery substance here at trump tower and were told both individuals are going to be okay. It was around 8 00 last night when a Campaign Worker opened a letter that was addressed to donald trump inside the Trumps Campaign offices here on the fifth floor. Nz the envelope was a white powder substance. That Campaign Worker immediately called the police and the fifth floor was evacuated. Hazmat experts took the powder, determined it was harmless and gave the building the all clear just after 11 00 last night. Meanwhile donald trump was not here at the big. Campaigning in Orange County, california. Antitrump protesters erupted outside the Convention Center where trump was speaking. Police did their best to maintain order, but the protesters blocked intersections, they vandalized police cars and at times they even fought with donald trump supporters. More than 20 people were arrested last night, but there were no reports of any injuries. Back here live outside trump tower, this is the third time that a white powdery substance has been sent to a member of the trump family. You may recall in march an envelope was sent to eric trump, thats trumps son and a threatening letter. And then two days later another letter was sent to Mary Ann Berry trump, thats trumps sister who is a federal judge in pennsylvania. In all of the cases, that substance turned out to be harmless. This latest case remains under investigation. Were live in front of trump tower in midtown, dray clark, channel 7 Eyewitness News a new survey showing new york city streets homelessness declined by about 28 . Its down from last year and 36 low are than a decade ago. The study found a 26 decrease in Homeless People in the subway system. The count is conducted in the winter when people are more likely to seek shelter. Starting next month, the city will start its first quarterly nighttime street homeless count. Police in brooklyn are searching for pistol whipped a woman during an apparent robbery in her big. It happened on montauk avenue in East New York and police say the 43yearold victim was hit in the head with a gun in the lobby of her Apartment Building. She is in stable condition. Videotape confession expected to be played in court today in the trial of a teenager charged with killing a new york city Police Officer in an arson. Marcell dockery is accused of setting a mattress on fire that caused the death of officer dennis geary a. Surveillance video presented as evidence shows the officer and his elevator in a coney island Apartment Building. Rodriguez described by being choked by thick smoke when the doors open. An Animal Shelter in new jersey is now a new home for dozens of dogs rescued from a meat farm in south korea. More than 20 dogs have arrive at hoopers Animal Welfare center in madison. The dogs will be given medical treatment and eventually put up for adoption. The farmer who released these dogs will now be growing mush rooms instead. Wow 4 37. Were looking at temperatures that are going to be starting around 49, 50, maybe a degree or two warmer than normal. But were going to be having a cool day today with cloudy skies, a few sprinkles are up to the north and theres rain around this low. That will dive in and through the area, give us rain tonight. So much of your day today is just cloudy. You need the jacket, wind breaker, that kind of thing. Temperature 58 later on this afternoon and well have some showers starting around sunset. Theres a downed pole involved, theres some downed wires. Now to an eyewitness exclusive and video show as dramatic attack in chinatown when a Restaurant Owner tried to defend one of his waitresses. Police say this cell phone video shows 33yearold montrez gomez on top of the victim, beating him outside his restaurant. The whole thing started when can wong defended a waitress he says gomez was harassing. Thats when gomez punched a hole in the wall. He went to turn to the restaurants owner to get help while the wife was on the phone calling 911, he saw a Police Vehicle outside, so he said, well, you know, let me go get the Police Officer to help me out with this stuff. So he went outside the store, and when he was walking out, thats when i was attacked from the back. The men in uniform outside the restaurant turned out to be traffic agents trained to call police in case of an emergency. Surveillance video eventually shows officers arriving on the scene an then taking gomez into custody. 4 42. It was a scary moment in the sky for passengers aboard a flight that took off from newark last night. An engine failure forced their landing. The united flight was heading to omaha, nebraska when the pilot realized an engine was experiencing trouble. The flight was diverted to cleveland. Inspected. Thrrvetle was also trouble on another flight out of our area. Three people were hurt on an American Airlines flight that took off from hartford, a beverage cart came loose during the flight and shot around the cabin. Two passengers and a Flight Attendant got hit by it. They were all evaluated after landing in charlotte. The epa epa will shell out 1 million in response to the mine spill in colorado that caused toxic sludge to travel through three states. That money will go to the to colorado and new mexico and utah governments as well as the navajo and southern ute tribes. The agency accidentally triggered the august spill at the gold king mine. Its considering requests for an additional 750,000 in expenses. Dramatic rescue is caught save a driver from rising flood waters. Now, the drivers car veered off the road and got stuck in gulfport, mississippi, and thats when a Good Samaritan ran right up to the water to help pull the driver to safety. Gulfport is under a state of emergency because of all of the rain and parts of that area have received up to a foot of rain. Wow thats amazing. 4 44. Meteorologist bill evans joins us. You look at the flag atop the Convention Center right there, were looking at that flag there coming and kind of blowing in. A little easterly wind here, so we got cloudy skies and an east wind. Start the day, 52 humidity with an east wind coming in, kind of make it is a little damp and cool and the pressure is rising. Yesterdays high 59. Normal is 66, and were going to be around 58 today. So temperatures will be cooler than normal through the weekend. Patchy light rain, some drizzle this morning. Otherwise much of the day is dry. We got rain returning tonight and were going to call it a 50 50 weekend because its going to be one day great, sunshine on saturday and one day some rain on sunday. 47 middletown, port jervis44 and 46 town here to hack et ceteratown. You see theres a frontal boundary right here and rain showers running along that, through connecticut, up above i 287. You get south of that, theres not much going on and this will kind of end for a while today, and then a wave of low pressure will ride along that and come across and thats going to be tonight. So youll see it on our futurecast as we go along. And actually showing up some breaks of sunshine on the guidance this afternoon in parts of the area. Then we get into tonight and you see this rain coming in after sunset on the computer models, and youll see that then as we get to overnight hours this starts to break up. And look at this, sunshine, beautiful weather on saturday as we go through the day. But as we go into sunday, here we go, overnight saturday and sun, here comes some more saturday and sunday, here comes some more rain for sunday. There goes that wave of low pressure that im talking about for tonight, and then that goes by and then this High Pressure gets a chance to work its magic and give us some sunshine on saturday. A new orleans businessman has been indicted for the murder of retired saints defensive end will smith. Cardel hayes is now charged with murdering smith and trying to murder his wife. Smith was shot in the back seven times and once in the side after an argument over hayes reending his mercedes. Police say that hayes then shot smiths wife twice in the legs. Time is 4 49. A possible terrorist hit list naming thousands of people from new york was apparently created by a group trying to imitate isis. Senator Charles Schumer says hes learned from the fbi that the list was not made by isis itself as originally thought. Sources also say many of the listed online are actually outdated. The fbi and the nypd are reaching out to people on the list to tell them they dont really have much to worry about. This happens every so often, some group, sometimes its isis, in this case its not, puts out names to scare people, and so far, praise god, theres been no followup on any threat like this. Well, the list does contain about 3,000 names, but only 2 3 are real, the rest of duplicates or fake names. It is 4 50. Drivers inbergen and rockland counties are being warned about a burglary operating ring that is targeting parked cars. Police say there have been a number of recent breakins believed to be tied to a national syndicate. The group goes up, smashes windows and steals purses or wallets typically left in plain sight. Folk, dont do that. Its not smart. Its often in gyms or parks where people are off exercising. Five car that is were broken into recently at the manuet baseball event are also believed to be connected to the ring. A man in connecticut is facing dozens of reckless driving charges because of what police found on instagram. Police found an account that shows 72s of reckless moves on motorcycles, fourwheelers and dirt bikes. By looking at the background, investigators figured out that the violations happened in bridgeport and east haven. They tracked down the alleged owner of the account, gabriel canestra, jr. He is now facing more than 60 charges. County Police Department are training for a bike ride of a lifetime. Next month 200 members of the Police Department will join with huns of other officers from around the country to ride to washington d. C. Theyre raising money for the families of fallen officers. Last year the Police Unity Tour raised 2 million for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Police need your help this morning to find a Child Predator who offered up an 11 that tourist says that he was approached about the boy in central park near the bow bridge. Eyewitness news is reporter diana rocco is live with a description of the predator. Diana. Reporter lori, good morning. It appears it may have been the boys father who was trying to offer up his son to a tourist for 300 for sex, and this Morning Police are looking for that boy and his father. Heres what we know. Just after midnight last night, the tourist was walking through central park when he says he was approached by a man and his 11yearold boy. This happened near bow bridge and west 74th street. The man offered sex with the boy for 300. The tourist, a 50yearold man from california quickly declined, left the park and called 911. But police spent most of the night searching the park. They will now be reviewing area surveillance cameras, hoping to find that boy and his father. The tourist did give a pretty good description of the man police are now looking for. He is about 35, clean shaven, fur hood and blue jeans. The boy was wearing an orange or red lightweight jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers this morning at 800577tips. They launched rocks, flashlights and bottles over the police line were also learning new information about the suspicious powder scare at trump tower. You know, there are Police Officers routinely posted outside trump tower here on fifth avenue, but the potential threat they faced last night did not walk through the door, but, rather, it arrived in the mail. It was around 8 00 last night when a worker inside donald Trumps Campaign office on the fifth floor opened a letter that was addressed to donald trump. Inside that letter was a white the worker immediately called the police and the fifth floor was evacuated. The sheriff in Orange County says they made more than 20 arrests but there were no injuries. And police are searching for the gunman who extinguished the bright spheuch future of a High School Senior in jersey city. 17yearold rondell rush was shot and killed tuesday night as he stood outside his home with a group of friends. The honor roll student was getting ready to pick a college and shape the life that he had worked so very hard for. Part of that work included a parttime job at magic tax in realworld experience. Stewedious, outgoing. Personality. Everyone enjoyed working with. An all around good kid. I mean, you know, sometimes you have to be mindful to the company you keep, but it doesnt take away from your character. Investigators say they do not know who shot the teen or why, as his family plans his funeral. Police are working to find his killer. 5 07. And a wake will be held today for Teaneck Mayer lizette parker. The 44yearold died sunday after being rushed to the hospital with respiratory issues. She was the first African American woman to be elected mayor in a Bergen County community. The funeral will be held this afternoon at mount olive baptist church. Her funeral will be held there tomorrow morning. 5 07. Students and reses who live around Sacred Heart University in fairfield, connecticut have been told to make sure their vaccines are up to date. To date about nine people have been diagnosed with mumps on campus since an outbreak earlier this year. Others are suspected. There have been several outbreaks of mumps at colleges harvard. The infection spreads through saliva or mucous when a person coughs or sneezes. It can be caught by eating utensils with unwashed hands. Its kind of our mark of fair weather. We have a High Pressure ridge trying to keep us dry and sunny, but theres a front from the south and west that has been undercutting that. So our sun is up at 5 56, sets at 7 51. And were going to be below normal for temperatures. So were looking at 50 murray hill and ridgewood, queens, whitestone. 47 islip, 48 bridgeport to poughkeepsie. Talking about coming in here to Long Island Sound an then kind of coming across out of the northeast across long island and into the jersey shore here. The showers weve been talking about is along a frontal boundary right there separating this High Pressure ridge from this front to the High Pressure down to the south. The search is on right now for a man, possibly a father offering up his own boy for sex for a price. In fact, a tourist says that he was approached in central park near the bow bridge. Eyewitness News Reporter diana rocco is live now in the park for us. Diana. Reporter lori and ken, good morning. This all happened on a walking trail not too far from here. A search of the park turned up empty overnight, but police are taking this very seriously this morning. Police searched central park for the better part of the night last night after just before midnight a 50yearold man from california said he was on a walking trail near bow bridge which is near west 74th street. He says a man came up to him with the 11yearold an asked him if he wanted and asked with the boy for 300. It appears he was the boys father. The tourist immediately said no and went back to his room and called 911, but he did give a description of the man to police. They are now looking for a man described as dark haired, about 35 years old, wearing a black jacket with a fur hood and blue jeans. The child was wearing a red and orange lightweight jacket. Again, a search of the park overnight did not turn up the boy or this man that police are looking for. They are asking anywufn with information to anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers this morning, and they will be reviewing area surveillance cameras. Police responded to this banquet hall on jamaica avenue just before midnight. New this morning, Surveillance Video just out of the man wanted for a knifepoint robbery in the bronx. A subway Security Camera caught this shot of this man clutching his knife heading for the street. Police say he had just robbed a mans wallet on the d train platform at east tremont avenue. There were no injuries, but he did get away with the victims cash. A videotaped confession is expected to be played in court today in the trial of a teenager charged with killing a new york city officer in an arson. 18yearold Marcel Dockery is accused of setting a mattress on fire that caused the death of officer dennis gerrary a. Surveillance video presented as evidence shows officer ger air a and his partner, Rosa Rodriguez in an elevator in a coney island Apartment Building in april of 2014. Rodriguez described being choked by thick smoke as the elevator doors opened. 5 34. Overnight four people, including a Police Officer were white powder came out of an envelope that was mailed to donald trump at trump tower. The powder proved harmless. Meanwhile trump was at a california rally with 18,000 people. Outside the rally hundreds of antitrump protesters shut down the streets. Police cars in costa mesa were surrounded and smashed. Now, i understand that vehicle is off on the shoulder, but you could experience some delays, especially as they get out there and try to get this cleared away. You have 202, 206 southbound from route 287 getting into route 22, that is an accident. We have all lanes closed down as a result of that accident. In fact, the ramps to and from route 22 getting onto 202, 206 are also shut down. Heading onto the cross bronx west from the sheridan getting into third avenue, you have construction. So we have up to two lanes closed down as a result. New Jersey Transit is doing just fine. Metro north, no major issues there. And then we have our Subway Service running on or close to schedule. Lets take a look at a webcam, show you how things look as you travel up through brooklyn on the bqe. This is right near union street. No major issues there on the bqe. And then well take a look here and see whats going on as you travel onto the well, again, this is the l. I. E. , and this is right near comack road where we had some earlier construction cleared. Coming up an Eyewitness News exclusive, a chinatown Restaurant Owner is badly beaten while defending a waitress who was allegedly getting harassed by the same attacker. Also ahead, the big push in an effort to help the environment in new york city that could also mean money out 5 39. Now to an Eyewitness News exclusive. Video shows a dramatic attack in chinatown when a Restaurant Owner tried to defend one of his waitresses. Now, police say this cell phone video shows 33yearold monintroduces gomez on top of the victim, beating him outside his own restaurant. Well, the whole thing started when aquain wong defended a waitress. He says gomez was harassing that waitress. Thats when gomez punched a hole in the wall before turning his attention to the Restaurant Owner who went to get help. While the wife is on the phone calling 911, he saw a Police Vehicle outside. So he said, well, you know, let me go get the Police Officer to help me out with this stuff. So he went outside the store and when he was walking out, thats when i was attacked from the back. Well, the men in uniform outside the restaurant turned out to be traffic agents, trained to call police in the case of an emergency. Surveillance video eventually scene and then taking into custody. 5 41. A possible terrorist hit list naming thousands of people from new york was apparently created by isis imitators. Senator Charles Schumer says that hes learned from the fbi that the list was not actually made by isis as originally thought. Sources also say many of the addresses and phone numbers listed online are outdated. The fbi and the nypd are reaching out to people on that list to tell them they have nothing to worry about. This happens every so often, some group, sometimes its isis, in this case its not, puts out names to scare people, and so far praise god, theres been no followup on any threat like this. The list contains about 3,000 names, but only 2 3 of that list is real. The rest of those names are duplicates or fake names. Well, the bill to charge new yorkers for using plastic and paper bags goes up for a vote next week, and it now has big support in the city council. Vivaito announced her support for the legislation that would charge customers a 5 cent fee for using plastic and paper bags. Now, she says its a step toward a cleaner and sustainable city. We take a look from the Chrysler Building this morning. Hey, how about that . Were looking across of whats going to be a Beautiful Day today from the Chrysler Building we are looking. And its a morning where were going to be seeing a lot of cloud cover, some cool temperatures, and, of course, were going to be seeing a little drizzle off to our north here. But our humidities are dry, so that kind of dries out, you know, the atmosphere at the lower levels. We got an east wind that keeps us kind of cool and a little bit on the gloomy side. High yesterday was 59. Normal is 66, and were going to be looking at just that, some drizzle, a little patchy light rain for the morning commute, particularly north of the city. Much of the day is dry, although well have some rain coming in tonight, we got sunny rain for sunday. 48 around kingston and poughkeepsie, 45 around carmel, 46 around armonk, 48 in newark. And so these numbers are on the cool side here. We got this wind coming out of the east off Long Island Sound right off the jersey shore, off the atlantic where the water temperature is about 54. So that keeps a cool fetch in here. Sprinkles up the Hudson River Valley, a batch of rain back here to the west and it just kind of dives on through. But that comes in tonight. L trains Fire Department activity between first avenue and bedford avenue. Service is suspended between eighth avenue and bedford as a result. We are also looking at the new jersey turnpike truck lanes south of exit 12. This is an overturned vehicle. The vehicle is off on the shoulder, but still you can definitely find some rubbernecking delays as you go through there. And then 202, 206 south, 287 down to 22, accident, all lanes are closed. Amtrak reassuring riders this morning that the discovery of toxic chemicals at penn station does not pose a danger. Hazardous chemicals known as pcbs were found on portions of tracks 1 and 10 in the midtown transit hub. Amtrak says a company specializing in cleaning up toxic waste use add truck with a large vacuum and hosed down the area. The railroad says tests show the air in penn station is totally safe and the affected area is not accessible to the general public. And a commuter alert for drivers who use the tappen zee bridge. Construction on the new bridge beginning tonight will close three of the four northbound lanes. Closures will take place from 9 00 p. M. Tonight to 2 00 p. M. Saturday and then again from 9 00 p. M. Saturday to 2 00 p. M. Sunday. All southbound lanes will remain open during the construction. It is 5 46. Still ahead on Eyewitness News this morning, the encouraging news this morning concerning new york citys homeless population, it is on the decline, but one group is questioning the new numbers. Of purpose and another chance at life while providing care for kittens. Mayor de blasio says the citys campaign to help the homeless is paying off. A new survey shows a number of Homeless People living on the streets has declined by 12 . Now, thats still about 2,800 people. But it is down from last year, and its 36 lower than a decade ago. The study also found a 20 decrease in Homeless People in the subway system and thats the first decrease that weve seen in seven years. 5 49. Neighbors around Teterboro Airport will have to wait a few noise. A new flight path set to begin this month has now been delayed at least six more weeks. The test flight path along route 17 is intended to divert some arriving jet from a path thats close to Hackensack University medical center. The federal Aviation Administration is revising its flight chart for a new landing procedure after noise complaints from surrounding communities. Well, the man punched in the face because he looks like shiloh beouff has found support from the act aror himself. The man says he left him a two minute long voice mail after the attack on the Lower East Side saturday. The man says that the actor said that he was sorry, that he was attacked because they look alike. Nevada prison officials have found a way to make inmates more responsible and forward looking. Kitty program. This is pretty clever. Next month 200 members of the Police Department will join with hundreds of other officers from around the country to ride to washington d. C.
