Two suspects on the run after slashing and robbing a man on a number 2 subway train. This happened near the jackson avenue station in mont haven. Eyewitness News Reporter diana rocco is live on the scene with the latest for us. Diana. Reporter and, ken, good morning. That investigation is well under way this morning. That 26yearold victim is now recovering at Lincoln Hospital with a slash wound to the head. You can see here at the 2 train southbound station the crime tape is still up this morning. That 26yearold man was heading south on the 2 train about 1 15 this morning, and as the train pulled into the jackson avenue station, the man was approached by two men with a knife. They demanded his backpack, and when the victim didnt give it up right away, he was slashed in the head. The two men are believed to be in their 20s. They took on foot with the hospital where he is in stable condition. Police say slashings and stabbings are up this year over last year citywide, especially on the transit system. It is something that is concerning to them and they are addressing it. Again, that victim a 26year old man is in stable condition this morning with a slash wound to the head. Police are now looking for two men in their 20s, anyone with information is asked to call crime toppers. For the first time this morning we are seeing new video of the man who was charged in the hit and run that killed a businessman in brooklyn. Detectives say 24yearold joshua cologne has a long record of 30 prior arrests. Yesterday he was allegedly driving off with a flatbed truck belonging to someone else, 63yearold phil delagratesy. He chased down the truck when the thief stopped at a light. Delagratesy tried to get 92 cab the street and was run over as the driver of the truck drove off. Family members and neighbors are shocked. Heartache, shock, pain and still as the reality hasnt set in for them, i see the truck is at phils home, but phils not going to be home anymore. Neighbors say the victim, mr. Dela dl gratzi was always caring, attentive and would offer to help when neighbors suffered a loss or death in their family. Well, new this morning, the santation worker expected to be okay after his truck crashed inside of a department garage. This happened just after 12 30 this morning at 57th street along west side highway. Police say the driver lost control and smashed into a second floor window. He was treated for a minor head injury. The crash led to a number of street closures while glass and other debris got cleaned up. Well, the union for scawrs gun shows that mayor de blasios decision to cut back on metal detectors was a bad idea. Officers from the 19 precinct drove boys to court last night, one just 13 years old. Hes now facing felony weapons charges. Police were called to the school after a boy pointed a gun at a young girl. Officers found the gun on another teen and a box of bullets on yet a 30. Weve been fortunate that we havent had a fatality, we havent had anybody injured, shot in these schools. This just shows there is a need for metal detectors, not a need to decrease metal detectors. All three teens are charge as juveniles with criminal possession of a weapon. The 13yearold will also be charged with menacing in the second degree. We turn now to the race for president. Hillary clinton will Campaign Today in brooklyn. Shes hosting a town hall on womens issues with congresswoman evet clark and new york citys first Lady Shirleen mccray. Clinton and her democratic rival Bernie Sanders have debate five days before the new york primary. They will meet at the Brooklyn Navy yard on april 14th. Sanders was rp born in brooklyn and clinton has her Campaign Headquarters there. Sanders, in the meantime, and republican frontrunner donald trump held rallies across the street from one another in milwaukee. Polls show both men dog well in todays wisconsin primary. Trumps wife, melania put in a rare an brief appearance at his rally after trump was blasted day after day for his views on and treatment of women. Thats hardly good baseball weather, but still the big ballpark here in the bronx will be jam packed just as it is for every opening day. Were expecting, as you said a moment ago, about 50,000 fans are expected to fill Yankee Stadium for todays wildcard playoff rematch with the astros. This is the real feel this morning. This is how its going to feel were talking about february type stuff. So we have a freeze warning until 10 00. And, of course, you brought the pets and the plants in last night. Now we have just a few of these clouds just kind of streaming across and theyll get out of the way and well have a lot of sunshine this morning. But well have this cold arctic air mass in here for a day and 4 00 a. M. Were still looking at upper 20s. By the time we get to 8 00, were still in the upper 20s. By the time we get to 1 00 upper 30s and well touch 40 barely at 3 00 this afternoon, and then were going to be seeing temperatures even tomorrow that start off rather chilly. So the wind chills this afternoon at 1 00 at game time at the stadium upper 20s here. So dress warmly. Sun to clouds, real feel right tonight its clear, its cold, light wind, 25. Police say two california High School Football students were killed by a driver who was high on drugs on their way home from a game there. Is a memorial to the boys along the road where they were just walking. They were on the side of the road. Investigators say 62yearold Philip Ingraham hit both teens with his pickup truck on sunday. Hes now facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter for a tragedy that has left the teens families in tears. If you could never talk to your brother or your sister again, talk to them because you never know. Police say the driver now in custody was also involved in same day just a few miles from where the two boys were killed. Time is 4 49. In Westchester County a teenager is waking up behind bars facing murder charges in the shooting of an iona college student. 18yearold Brandon Lawrence was shot and killed early sunday morning in lincoln park in new rachelle bond. Police say that he was hit by a bullet intended for someone else. Lawrence was found bleeding on the ground in the parks baseball field. Emergency crews tried to save him, but he died at the scene. I love my son. I loved him dearly, and he was killed so senselessly. Senselessly. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. 19yearold stevenson desear is charged with seconddegree murder. Police say he was fighting with another person, not the victim. 4 50 right now. Police have arrested a suspect in a robbery and shooting of knicks forward clay anthony early. Unrelated charge. He was part of a group of gunmen that robbed outside of a strip club in queens. Police say he stole his jewelry and cell phones before one of leg. The gunman is still at large. 4 50. Relatives of an unarmed blackman killed as he ran from a white Police Officer say their pain will never end. Walter scotts family gathered at his grave yesterday in South Carolina to mark a year since his death. Last april scott was shot in the back by now former charleston officer michael slager. The scene was captured on cell phone video. Scotts family wants slager behind bars. We want to see a guilty verdict for officer slager, but we also want to see change all across South Carolina, charleston and all across america. This may sound crazy, but i feel sorry for him because he made a terrible decision that day. Slager is under house arrest charged with murder. His trial begins later this year. The victim was also slashed in the head as the train was pulling into the jackson avenue station in mont haven. Eyewitness News Reporter diana rocco is live for us at the scene. Diana. Reporter michelle and ken, good morning. That 26yearold victim was slashed in the head when he did not want to give up his backpack. His two attackers are still on the run this morning. Police are looking for them as they investigate. The southbound side of the jefferson avenue train station has been closed for the last several hours. Heres what we know. Morning the southbound 2 train was pulling into the jefferson avenue station when the two men approached the victim and demanded his back pack. They then slashed the man in the head. The two men took off on foot with the backpack while the victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he remains in stable condition this morning. Crime statistics show that slashings and stabbings are up about 20 citywide this year over last, and the Police Commissioner says they are aware of that, and they are handling it. Slashings are not going away. We live in new york city. Them. What were attempting to do, however, is one of the few crimes is going up, at the same time its going up at a level that is of concern to us, so thats the additional effort that were putting into it, and im comfortable that over time, like just about Everything Else we focus on here, it will go down. And new this morning at least 20 people are hurt after a bus carrying Bronx College students overturns upstate. It happened in manera, about 70 miles north of albany in the adirondacks. We have new video in from the scene. The charter bus was carrying student from sunni maritime back to campus. It went off the side of the road late yesterday morning, all of the injuries considered minor. State officials think that icy conditions caused the crash 5 05. Police are looking for a gang of thieves who robbed under hads of dollars from a deliveryman they cornered in hamilton heights. The 30th precinct says the thieves got close to 300. Delivering. The third suspect was a woman dressed in gray hoodie and dark jeans. In pennsylvania federal investigators have retrieved video and data recorders from the amtrak train that crashed into equipment on the tracks, killing two workers. That train which had departed from new york city was traveling at about 106 miles an hour yesterday when it slammed into a backhoe near philadelphia. Officials say the track workers made a mistake and were on the wrong track. Surveillance video showing smoke from the crash seconds after that helicopter went down. You can see it on the left side of your screen there. You see that smoke. All five people aboard were killed. The chopper burst into flames on impact engulfing a hillside. No word from the faa on what led to that crash. 5 12 right now. Saturday night birthday bash nearly turned into a bashing for a bar owner targeted by a the trouble erupted at the hardware bar in Hells Kitchen, known as a gay bar. The owner, Eric Einstein was celebrating a friends birthday when an egg was thrown and hit him in the jaw. Eric saw three teenaged boys staring at him and then took off. He gave chase and caught up with one. He hit me right here on the jaw. I thought maybe it was a full bottle of water or something, not fully sol, but heavy. Seconds later the kids two friends circled back. When it was three against one, eric let go of the teenager, called police. The incident is now being time is 5 13. The search is on this morning for the two men who slashed a commuter in the head on a subway train in the bronx. Eyewitness News Reporter diana rocco is live at the scene in mott haven. Diane a. Reporter ken, good morning. That victim is recovering in the hospital this morning after this all happened about 1 15 this morning at the jackson avenue 2 station. Now, heres what we know. The 26yearold man was heading southbound on the 2 train. As the train pulled into the station, the man was approached by two men with a knife. They demanded his backpack. When the victim didnt give it up right away, he was slashed in the head and the two men believed to be in their 20s took off on foot with the backpack. The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he is now in stable condition. But police say slashings and stabbings are up this year over last year citywide, especially on the transit system. It is something that is concerning to them an they are addressing it, but riders we spoke to this morning are worried. Its scary to find somebody slashed so early in the morning. Its too early no one wants to get slashed early in the morning. Its scary. It makes me think a little bit because im up early everyday like this. Its scary. And i have to be at work. Reporter so that victim is morning, and as you can hear the 2 train is now pulling into the jackson avenue train station after service was suspended for quite some time overnight. For the first time this morning were seeing new video of the man charged in the hitandrun killing of a businessman in brooklyn. Detectives say 24yearold joshua cologne has a long record, 30 prior arrests. Yesterday he allegedly was driving off with a flatbed truck belonging to phil dela gratesy. He chased down the truck when the thief stopped at a light. Dela gratesy tried to get 92 cab of the truck, but then ended up in the street and was run over as the truck drove off. Family members and neighbors are shocked. Heartache, shock, pain, and still as the reality hasnt set in for them you know, still, but phils not going to be home anymore. Neighbors say he was always caring, always attentive, offering to help when neighbors suffered a loss or death in the family. 5 34. New this morning, a santation worker is expected to be okay after his truck crashed inside of a department garage. It happened just after 12 30 this morning at 57th street along the west side highway. Police say the driver lost control, smashing into a second floor window. He was treated for a minor head injury. The crash led to a number of street closures, though, while glass and other debris was cleaned up. 5 35. The union for School Security guards says the latest arrests of three boys with a gun shows mayor de blasios decision to cut back on metal detectors was a bad idea. Three boys were arrested yesterday at p. S. 169, the robert f. Kennedy school on manhattans Upper East Side. Officers from the 19 precinct drove the boys to court last night. One just 13 years old, now facing felony weapons charges. Police were called to the school after a boy pointed a oomps found that gun on another teen and a box of bullets on yet a third. Weve been fortunate that we havent had a fatality, we havent had anybody injured, shot in these schools. This just shows there is a need for metal detectors, not a need to decrease metal detectors all three teens are charged as juveniles with criminal possession of a weapon. The 13yearold will also be charged with menacing in the second degree. Switching gears, 5 35, the highlyanticipated day has arrived again. The yankees are set to face the astros in a rematch of last years American League wildcard game, and this time around fans in the bronx will need to layer up, grab the coat.
