And, of course, that is because of construction. Now, if youre going into northbergen, tunalee avenue between 69th street and 54th street, you have that accident. All lanes closed down. Construction across the board, george, lincoln, holland, they do have minor delays. The outbound lower level two lanes closed underneath the apartments, that should be cleared by 5 00 a. M. The blaze started orch the roof of on the roof of a building on catawba avenue and then is spread. The fdny tweeted crews tweeted this picture of crews getting the building under control. Darla miles is live in bushwick with reaction. Dar lap la. Reporter good morning, lori. The fdny is still here, so is the red cross, helping those displaced residents. I want to show you the scene right now. This fire completely ate through these five billings. Its just total destruction. You can see theres really not much left here. I also want you to take a look at the fire at its height when it went to six alarms last night. It was a real inferno. Look at this video. It started around 10 00 last night on dekalb avenue in bushwick, and it took about 200 firefighters to knock it down, five buildings have been destroyed, one church as well as a martial arts studio. Unclear how many people have been impacted, but many of them this morning are homeless, being transported to shelters in buses by the red cross. We lost everything, and were going to a shelter or to a hotel for now and then see what happens tomorrow. Right now we just have to roll with the punches i guess. We have nothing, so we have our family and thats it. Reporter again, this is a live look at those five buildings that burned out last night here in bushwick. The fdny still on scene checking for hot spots. The fire commissioner spoke last night. He said the fire cause is still under investigation. In new jersey detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a woman whose body was found on the we have learned 73yearold virginia wilsons body was discovered saturday by a worker on amity street in jersey city. Police say the woman victim had suffered multiple injuries. Well, new details now in a disturbing case of abuse and what investigators are calling a house of horrors for foster children on long island. Caesar gonzalez is charged with sexually abusing seven foster boys. Investigators say there could be many more victims. Suspect fostered some 140 boys in his home over a period of 20 years. Social worker Debbie Edwards tells Eyewitness News that she alerted authorities four years, but no one listened. But you didnt know they were being sexually abused . I had a feeling. I never felt professionally well, because edwards had confronted gonzalez marjou, she says he threatened to sue. He also complained to her bosses at the longwood district. The end result, edwards says she was prohibited from ever speaking again to the foster boys staying with gonzalez markabou. We are hearing from a livery cab driver beaten and robbed by three passengers in manhattan. Abdelah wagah says he picked up three passengers in the bronx. When they arrived at their destination in east harlem, two women and a man attack him. He punched my face. My nose was bleeding and [ inaudible ] punch me too. Every time i go home, i feel scared. Well, the suspects stole 200 as well. The new York State Federation of taxi drivers is offering a 500 reward for their capture. 4 36. And happening today the new discuss regulating activities in Public Places including new rules for costume characters. Transportation committee will hear testimony on a bill to define areas for commercial activities in the citys 49 pedestrian plazas, including times square. Clinton to discuss her plans today to raise incomes for all communities, keep the country safe and bring it together after what she calls a very tense election season. Meanwhile, opponent Bernie Sanders will hold a rally in the south bronx tomorrow where he is expected to talk about getting big money out of politics, free tuition at public colleges and universities, Climate Change and universal healthcare. While sanders trails clinton, the race has tightened over the last couple of days. Clintons event will start here at the apollo at 11 30 this morning. Well, police say the accused hijacker is unstable and a court in cyprus has ordered him held for eight days while prosecutors build their case against him. In mississippi, a 20year old has pleaded guilty to federal charges of aiding terrorist, jalen young admits she tried to join isis and conspired with her boyfriend to provide support for isis. Police say the four boys are just 6 to 7 years old. One passenger who was attacked shotted video of them cursing, hitting and at least pointing and even spitting at a passenger and slapping a woman. All right, heather, thank you. 5 02. And a raging fire destroyed several apartment buildings in brooklyn and we have just learned new details on the number of people who have been displaced. The fire started just before 10 00 last night on dekalb avenue in bushwick. Miles is live right there at the scene. Darla, good morning. Reporter good morning again, michelle, lori. We have now learned that 40 people have been impacted by this fire, and so much has been destroyed. I just got an update from the fire chief, mike allano here on scene and he confirms that the fire started right here where this church is, at the redeemed christian church. So you can see theres a church there, there are a few apartments on top. And in that building there has already been one collapse, and they are concerned that more may collapse inside of that building. I want to show you the height of this fire. It started 10 00 last night here on dekalb avenue in bushwick. It started as three alarms. It quickly rose to six alarms. Commissioner fdny commissioner said one reason why it spread so quickly and why it was so devastating is because of the way these buildings have been made, not because of the wind. And this morning the red cross took about 25 of those fire it was really, really bad. It was so bad that we couldnt even come down the steps. It was horrible, like there was smoke and the water from the firefighters and a whole bunch of fire, black smoke. It was just it was crazy, glass all over the place. Reporter live look now at the devastation and destruction here in bushwick. You can see the fire marshal is also on scene conducting his investigation. Again, this morning there is some fear of collapse from the initial fire building. One small collapse where the church is right now. The Fire Department is now turning that debris from where that collapse took place to make sure that the fire does not reignite. A scheduled inspection found problems with about 220 bolts. Each of them about two inches long and made of stainless steel. The reactors owner says there was no danger to the public. Governor cuomo says the bolt problem raises deep concerns. The governor has called on the federal government to reject an extension of the plants operating license. Former new York State Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver has now been disbarred. The 72yearold was convicted in november in a 5 million corruption case. Thats where someone tortured, stabbed and shot the 23year old. His body was found on monday afternoon, but police have not found one willing witness. I just have the memories and i just want somebody to just please help me and just come forward and just say something. Well, the only clue police have is an image of a livery cab that they believe carried away at least two suspects. However, they cant make out the license plate. Anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers. 5 13 right now. New this Morning Police are searching for a man and a woman wanted in a violent Home Invasion that happened in east harlem. Heres a look at the suspects. Detectives say the attack happened last month. Door, claiming to be conducting a survey. And this morning were getting a look at the scope of the damage caused by a massive fire in brooklyn. Five buildings were destroyed. Fdny sent out a tweet from the scene on dekalb avenue in bushwick. Eyewitness News Reporter darla miles is live now with new details on the number of people displaced. Darla. Reporter good morning again, lori. We know that at least 40 people have been displaced, 25 of them went to a hotel taken by the red cross this morning. I do want to show you whats going on right now. The fdny just put a ladder up. They are not putting water on any hot spots, but it looks like they are just taking a look at damage. You know, they are concerned about collapse from the main fire building that started in a church and part of that building has already collapsed. But right now they just want to make sure everything is just theres no more fear of collapse. But i do want to show you the fire that caused this massive destruction here. Look at it. It went from three alarms at 6 00, a real inferno at 10 00 last night here on dekalb avenue in bushwick. It took about 200 firefighters to knock this fire down. Five buildings were destroyed, one church, and a martial arts studio. And, again, those people went to shelters this morning, tawm triesed by the devastate traumatized by the devastation. We lost everything and were going to a shelter or to a hotel for now, and then see what happens tomorrow. Right now we roll with the punches i guess. We have nothing, so we have our family an thats it. Reporter now, the cause of this fire is still under investigation. You would think with all of the high winds we had yesterday that may have played a role, but according to the fdny commissioner, daniel nigro, he said it did not in fact. Quickly is because of the way these buildings are made. Again, the fdny is still here, theyre monitoring the building specifically for a collapse. Reporting live in bushwick, darla miles, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Thank you, darla. Police in Nassau County are warning parents about an attempt to lure two 10yearold girls into a car in wantoning. The girls were walking on monday evening like briar street just north of stratford road. The girls say the driver of a black fourdoor sedan tried to get them into his car and then circled back for a second attempt. The girls ran until they got home, told a parent who called police. 5 34. And a livery cab driver who was beaten and robbed by three passengers in manhattan is sharing his story. Abde la wagah tells us he picked up the passengers monday morning at a strip club in the bronx. When he arrived at their destination in east harlem, the two women and a man attack him. Nose was bleeding and it was in the back, punch me too. I have a lot of pain. Every time i get home, i feel scared. Well, the suspects stole 200. The new York State Federation of taxi drivers is offering a 500 reward for information leading to their arrest. Turns out the motive may have been marital tensions rather than terrorism, but the hijacking passenger flight is still raising serious security concerns. The hijacker claimed that he was wearing a suicide vest. That was not true. Before he was taken into custody on the tarmac by heavily armed police, the accused hijacker diverted the plane from egypt to cyprus, the home of his exwife. Regardless of whether or not this is a real device, there have to be real concerns raised at this point about security there. Police say the accused hijacker is unstable, their word, and a court in cyprus has while prosecutors build their case against him. Its 5 35. Hear from the social worker who says authorities would not listen to her warnings about him. Plus another reason not to sleep on the subway. And new details now on a disturbing case of abuse in what investigators are calling a house of horrors for foster children on long island. Caesar gonzalez mugaburu is charged with sexually abusing seven foster boys. But investigators say there could be many more victims. The suspect fostered some 140 boys in his home over 20 years. Social worker debi edwards alerted authorities for years, but no one would listen. But you didnt know they were being sexually abused . I had a feeling. I never felt professionally supported to pursue that feeling. Well, because edwards had confronted gonzalez mugaburu, she says that he threatened to sue. He also complained to her bosses at the longwood district. The end result, edwards says she was prohibited from ever speaking again to the suspects foster boys. 5 41. New this Morning Police and the fbi want help finding a couple of suspected bank skimmers. Heres a look at the two men. Investigators say soren safa and bogden aten sou, skimmed customer information from atms. All of the incidents happened from last september to november. And police say these men hit five machines, one in brooklyn all of the atms were at att bank branches. Its video is that will have your skin crawl and have you thinking twice before nodding off on a subway train. Thats a rat crawling on a man who was taking a nap on a 7 train early sunday morning. Now, the big rodent got on board at hudson yards and then made himself at home. A fellow passenger caught the stunning scene on video. He wrestles me and i throw him against the shelves and i sure that none of that knife was coming near me. Well, phelps and the store clerk eventually chased the robber out of the store.
