New this morning, we have images of a man wanted for groping a teenager in a bronx grocery store. Police say that he forced himself on a 16yearold girl inside a locker room at a stop and shop on east 174th street in crotona last monday afternoon. Today there are funerals for two of the men on the tugboat that sank after hit ago barge on the hudson river over the hitting a barge on the hudson river over the weekend. Both were on board the specialist when it went down saturday mere the tappen zee bridge. The body of a third victim, 56 yearold Harry Hernandez has still not been recovered. We should learn the names today of three people who died in a violent headon crash in jersey. An suv going south on route 9 in old bridge crossed into the northbound lanes yesterday afternoon, slamming into a sedan. The driver of that suv, a man from howell township was killed. The woman in the sedan and one passenger also died. Two other women in that other car were take tone Robert Wood Johnson hospital with serious injuries. 6 06. Today new jersey state officials will lay out their plans to test thousands of School Children in newark for possible lead exposure. Elevated levels were found at 30 schools, forcing students to avoid drinking fountains and use bottled water instead. Miles is live now in newark. Reporter good morning again, lori. The state department of Environmental Protection will finalize and lay out its plan today for that lead testing, as you mentioned. We do know that the younger students will be tested first for lead poisoning. Thats about 2,000 students from the 30 schools in the Early Childhood learning centers on those list of schools that tested positive for elevated levels of lead. After those younger students will be tested first, then lead testing sites will be set up at other schools to test the older students for lead poisoning, and while the city works for a longterm solution to this infrastructure issue, mayor ras baracka is asking each person who lives here in newark to donate two cases of bottled water to the district. We need strong legislators and groups around the state to demand that even if were going to risk our own lives for politics, we shouldnt risk our childrens lives. [ applause ] we dont want to send our children bottled water for the next 20 years, and we dont want filters on our water sites. We have breaking news on long island. Just days after admitting that he killed five teens in a street racing crash, cory glow of farmingdale has landed back in Police Custody on new charges. Glow pleaded guilty last week to racing another driver in that deadly 2014 crash. And in a plea deal that outraged the victims families, he got a sixmonth jail sentence. The new twist, Nassau CountyPolice Arrested him last night as a passenger in a car that parkway. Glow is now charged with possession of a gravity knife and marijuana. He will be arraigned for that later today. 6 36. And a brooklyn mother charged with murder in the drowning death of her toddler will be arraigned today. 2yearold melody phang drowned in a bathtub in her sunset park home on sunday. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide yesterday. Police arrested her mother, lin li a short time later. Authorities then placed the victims 4yearold brother with Children Services after they found him with bruises on his neck. 6 36. Opening statements will begin today in the trial of a mother charged with killing her 5year old son in new jersey some 25 years ago. Michelle lazinskis son timothy disappeared from a carnival in sayreville back in 1991. His partial remains were found a year later in an Industrial Complex in edison. A grand jury indicted lazinski for timothys murder in 2014. Attorneys will begin their case at 9 00 a. M. In new brunswick. Well, police in new jersey driver who fled from a series accident. Investigators say a black toyota suv hit a woman in her 20s on route 17 north in paramus. The woman survived but was seriously hurt. A section of route 17 was closed for hours as part of the investigation. 6 37. New this morning north koreas highest court has sentenced a visiting American College student to 15 years hard labor in prison. Otto warmbier was a 21yearold university of virginia undergrad student convicted and sentence inside a onehour trial. In a onehour trial. He was arrested in january for trying to steal a propaganda banner from a restricted area of his hotel. Warmbier said he wanted the banner as a trophy for a friends mother. Well, today president obama is expected to announce his pick to replace the late Supreme Court justice antonin scalia. It was all because of an earlier disabled vehicle. But i just got word from newscopter 7, john del gorno said the disabled vehicle has been cleared away. But the delays certainly do remain. The suitcase was thrown over a wall into a parking lot last week. When Police Arrived from the 90th precinct, they found the kittens starving and injured. The cats were taken to the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition where six of them were able to survive. You can see the kittens are a big hit and are headed to some new homes. Up next, a big day in Lower Manhattan at one Historic Site still rebuilding from superstorm sandy. And an armed robber pulls a wouldbe robber proved to be no match for the people inside a California Liquor store. Police say the suspect tried to shoot the clerk several times, but the gun malfunctioned. Surveillance video shows the clerk fighting back. Another man was able to take the gun away from the suspect and then two other people came into the store to help hold the suspect down until Police Arrived. Authorities charged him with attempted murder and robbery. Well, its a modest step on the road to recovery, but the south street Seaport Museum reopens today with a new show on its rebuilt lobby. Reporter lori and ken, well update a story we brought now Police Reporting two people stabbed here apparently on the sidewalk at the intersection of 171st street and amster dam avenue. This stabbing happened just before 6 00 this morning. Police telling us one person stabbed in the arm, another person stabbed in the leg. Both of those people taken to area hospitals with nonlife threatening injuries. Police are on the scene. Eyewitness News Reporter darla miles joins us from the citys central ward. Darla. Reporter ken, lori, the state department of health and the state department of Environmental Protection will be conducting these tests. We know that they are going to test the 2,000 students from the Early Childhood learning centers first. Of the 30 schools that tested now, once that is complete, then the state will set up lead testing sites at the remaining affected schools. Another part of the plan expected to be released today is that the state will test all 67 schools, every sink, water fountain and food preparation area, and that part of the testing is expected to begin this week.
