This time Lower Manhattan where police shot and wounded a man overnight. Kristin thorne is live in the east village with the latest details. Kristin in. Reporter ken, police say they were forced to shoot the man once in the chest because he is recovering in stable condition at bellevue hospital. Police say they got a call from this, someone in the Apartment Building in the east village on avenue d about an emotionally disturbed man with a knife. When Police Arrived they found a man on the 7th floor brandishing a knife. They ordered him to drop the knife but he moved toward officers in a threatening manner with the knife and an officer fired one shot striking the man in the chest. No officers were injured. Firefighters made a deadly discovery. They put out a fire at an abandoned home in east tremont when they found a body inside. Ed person has not been identified. The cause of the death is still being determined. Well, at least 42 deaths on the east coast are linked to the weekend blizzard. Got the shock of their lives when they found a neighbor lying dead in her driveway buried by snow. A group of middle School Students had just gotten off the bus yesterday when one of them spotted what appeared to be clothing in the driveway. They knocked on the neighbors door to tell her. When no one answered, they went back to the clotting with another neighbor. I thought it was a pillow case of clothes. The jacket was white. I thought the pants were in the white bag but it was actually her shirt. My neighbor moved snow over and it was her hand. It appears the 64yearold mary wall died shoveling snow on saturday. She still had the hand. The driveway did not appear to have been cleared. In brooklyn, Police Identified a man who was also found dead inside a snow covered car. Police say the body of 44year in sunset park in the drivers seat of a lexus. Janeal was last seen alive sunday night. He dug his way into his car to take a break. The car was still running when his body was found but the tailpipe was obstructed by snow. Nearly a thousand plows are in place to tackle neighborhoods in queens. Its a huge undertaking. People who live in queens are furious because some side streets have been impassable since the huge snowstorm. Eyewitness News Reporter dray village. He has been covered queens since the storm with the latest on the cleanup efforts. Reporter good morning, ken, no doubt that a lot of people in queens have been very angry with the mayor and the way the city handled the snow cleanup. As of yesterday, he made it the largest cleanup but it seemed it was getting the least amount of attention. The Sanitation Department has almost a thousand plows in queens alone. That is nearly half the citys fleet. Its getting ready to use a giant snow melting machine in fresh meadows. Across queens, clearing the streets is still a back breaking job. Plows get stuck, icy streets leaving sanitation workers to dig them out or hook up chains to pull them out. People are fed up blaming mayor de blasio. 5 to 10,000 in taxes we pay, we should get representation. Absolutely terrible. It made lindsey look like a star. Forget about it. Lindsey lost elections over snow. Reporter state senators are the crisis unacceptable and less than adequate. Mayor de blasio is pointing at the less than stellar results. Some areas of queens strong, others less so. I didnt see the kind of results i wanted in sunnyside, woodside, elmhurst, corona. Reporter back live you see city workers are very busy. This is one of those streets that they have been clearing out, one of many they have done overnight. That work still continues. We saw a convoy of dump trucks leaving this neighborhood moving to another. They took the mayors orders to heart and these guys are, giving them credit, doing a good job of getting the streets cleaned up in a short amount of time since the mayor made it clear he wanted to see a difference. In new jersey, path service between newark and penn station but it should be up and running by this afternoon. 650 workers are removing snow from the tracks. Snow drifts were 15 feet. Path is adding limited Shuttle Bus Service and new Jersey Transit is cross honoring. Newark. Anger has been rising since the snow stopped falling as many streets are buried. Mayor ross barack cap apologized for the citys response but insists that they are working around the clock to get the streets clear. People digging themselves out last night are not ready to accept the apology. He is not doing his job. Every other street in newark other than the side streets are plowed. We cleared all of this out. We had a neighbor get a snow plow and come out. He helped us a little bit. But people are still stuck. Closed again due to the ongoing cleanup operations. They say they were forced to shoot the man because he came at officers with a knife. Police responded to the jacob read houses on the ford drive around 1 fdr receiving reports of a man brandishing a knife. They found him on the 7th floor of the Apartment Building with a knife. He apparently lives on that floor with his grandmother. Police say they told him repeatedly to drop the knife. He did not. Instead, apparently came at officers in a threatening manner with the knife. A policeinvolved shooting that happened in an Apartment Building. Eyewitness News ReporterKristin Thorne is live in the east village with the details. Kristin, what happened . Reporter well, ken, police say they were forced to shoot at this man because he came after responding officers. The man is in stable condition at bellevue hospital. Police say they got a call from someone inside an Apartment Building along avenue d, between avenue d and the fdr drive in the east village earlier this morning around 12 30 about an emotionally disturbed man with a knife. When Police Arrived they found a man on the 7th floor of the building brandishing a knife. They ordered him to drop the knife. They say he did not do that. Rather he came at officers in a threatening manner and an officer fired one shot striking no officers were injured and the knife was recovered at the scene. The citys Sanitation Department says its hard at work trying to clear the snow clogged streets in queens. Convoys are moving through the borough all morning long. In some cases, quite a battle beginning being waged by just one plow and then some get stuck in the same street its trying to clear. The slow progress angered residents. Some came paired mayor de blasio with mayor john lindsey who suffered a political death blow when he failed to plow queens neighborhoods. Queen is the forgotten neighborhood as well. He just worries about manhattan. There are five boroughs. We pay taxes, also. Kids are in school. You cant get down the street as manhattan got secured and much of brooklyn got security secured, the secured, the bronx, the equipment was sent to queens. Crease moving through queens this morning are finding more streets cleared of snow. New video into the newsroom of the overnight cleanup in smithtown. Long island town used heavy machinery to clear main streets of snow between route 111 and brookside drive. Dozens of dump trucks were filled with snow and then dozens of smaller bobcats and men with shovels moved in to clear the sidewalks in front of the towns businesses. Its a massive cleanup and has taken most of the night. At least 42 deaths on the east coast are linked to weekend blizzard. Police in mahwah say children got the shock of their lives when they found a neighbor laying deed in her driveway dead in her driveway. Students just got off the bus when one spotted what appeared to be clothing in a driveway. They knocked on the neighbors door to tell her. When nobody answered, they went back to the cloth wearing another neighbor. I thought it was a bag of clothes. Her jacket was white and she had pants so i thought the pants were in the white bag but it was actually her shirt. My neighbor moved snow over and it was her hand. It appears 64yearold mary wall died shoveling snow saturday. She still had the shovel in her land but the driveway did not appear to have been cleared. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death for a man in his snowcovered car in brooklyn. An autopsy takes angel janel. His body was discovered monday in sunset park. Police think he was taking a break from shoveling, got in the car and a plow pushed snow on the door trapping him inside running and the tailpipe was blocked. Eyewitness News Reporter dray clark has just arrived in glendale. He is joining us now with an update. Dray . Reporter yeah, good morning, lori. We are on the west side of 83rd avenue in glendale. This is one of the streets that hasnt been plowed. A neighbor walked by and said we have been calling for days and sanitation still hasnt arrived. Take a look behind me all the way up the hill here behind me and around the corner. This is what you will find. A street still packed full of snow. Here is the good thing. We spent a lot of time driving around queens this morning and we did come across the city sanitation crews. They are out spread around queens and compared to what we saw yesterday, they are making some progress. We know on the roads there are more than 1,000 plow trucks. Close to 200 frontend loaders and an army of dump trucks as well. This is a major operation after yesterday that queens would snow cleanup. Satisfied. He didnt like the way things looked in several different throughout queens. So, yesterday, all of a sudden queens was getting the attention that it deserves borough. Second it has more roads than any of the other boroughs and third it was the hardest hit in the storm. Many said it was getting the least amount of attention. This is one of the few streets right now across queens that is untouched. Im sure the folks that live on the block are hoping, probably praying that the city sanitation crews will find their way here and get this mess cleaned up. It looked bad and it goes all the way around the corner. You cant drive and walking up and down this block is dangerous as well. You can tell on the paths here that the neighbors have tried to find a path because thats the only way they have to get we will keep you updated throughout the morning if the crews should come here, we will let you know right away. In the water off the florida coast passengers were trying to enjoy a Pleasure Cruise on a yacht. Ran a Half Marathon. [car starting] [engine revving] [crashing] the coast guard is yacht to sink off the coast of fort lauderdale. The coast guard rescued all 13 people on board. The captain of the serena 3 radioed the yacht was taking on water. A towing service tried to save the ship but it went down so quickly the coast guard says that its impressive that everyone got off the yacht in time. We have new video from california where authorities are evacuating homes on the brink literally of falling into storms fueled by el nino have eaten way at the sandy cliff in pacifica. Now there is no choice but to get people out of their homes on the cliffside before they go over the edge or the edge vanishes beneath them.
