We will be shower free and as the sun comes up, by 9 00 a. M. We start to see that fog burn after and temperatures soar into the 60s. A high of 64degrees in new york city today. A car crashes into a disabled truck on the Grand Central parkway and in astoria, queens, with people have died. Two people have died. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama at the the scene right now. You ken. Ken in the last ten minutes the medical examiner arrived and we know that two men were killed in this crash. Where i am is 31st street and just below me is the Grand Central parkway. The eastbound lanes are shut down because of this deadly crash. Let me show you what happened here earlier this morning. A white box truck was parked in the shoulder of this Grand Central parkway on the eastbound lanes. It appears a black Hyundai Elantra was driving down grand eastbound lanes. And slammed into the back of that parked truck. You can see the truck and the black car there in the shoulder. It is still there right now. Police tell us the white box truck was driven by a 35year old man. He did stay on scene. At this point we know he was not hurt. And investigators are reconstructing this crash seeing to determine how this happened no. Word if speed, the fog or alcohol played a role but police will look at all three of the factor. And right now if you are headed to this area of astoria, queens, all cars are being diverted off the eastbound lanes of Grand Central parkway at the 31st street exit. Northwest new jersey and some of the Northern Counties have been excluded from the advisory but as we look at the visibilities, weve had issues up in poughkeepsie and monticello and morristown also out to islip and down the jersey shore with belmar and toms river included with less than a mile visibility. Be aware of that. Large cold front will be heading in our direction for the second half of the weekend. Until then, temperatures look good. 64 degrees the expected high. Thats 15 above normal. And now on to that breaking news that weve been following all morning long and a deadly crash on the Grand Central parkway in queens. Two people were killed overnight when a car slammed into a truck. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama is on the scene for us right now with new develops. Developments, kala . Reporter lori, we learned that speed was a factor in the crash that killed to men here on the two men here on the Central Eastern parkway. The eastern lanes here are still shut down. Several cop cars blocking the area as the crash is just under the overpass here. Take a look, a white box truck was pulled over to the saad of road and it side of the road and it appears a black elantra was driving down Grand Central parkway in the eastbound lanes and slammed into the back of that parked box truck. You can see the truck and back of the car there in the shoulder. Police tell us the white box truck was driven by a 35year old man. He stayed on scene. He is cooperating. He was not hurt. But again, two men who were traveling in that black car are dead this morning. The mercedes then killed a woman who was getting into her dear and it hit at least three more cars injuring another three people. Relative stay woman in the nissan was shaken but not seriously hurt. Temperatures are easy to take this morning in the low 50s. A lot of people out and about hustling and theyre leaving the house right now, especially in the boroughs, you can practically go without a coat. Were looking for temperatures in the mid 60s later this afternoon. But there is something that you should be aware of and thats the fog. With all this warmth at the surface, from yesterday and overnight, there is some fog developing in parts of the area. So we get a check on the numbers and we start with a low 50s. Jogging off the turkey i know. Were all right there with you. Humidity 86 and south winds at 5 miles an hour and pressure falling at this hour. Heres the deal with the dense fog advisory. It goes until 9 00 a. M. For areas in gray posted by the National Weather service and it does exclude northwest new jersey and parts of the Northern Counties. But from Orange County up to sullivan, ulster, dutchess, weve got some issues there and newburg reporting unlimited visibility. But we are still having problems with morristown and bridgeport and slip, fell mar and islip and belmar and toms river. The sun will be breaking during the day also and that will spike our temperatures in the mid 60s. It is much cooler with clouds over the weekend. So know that were starting with temperatures at least ten degrees warmer than they were yesterday at the same time. Transitioning into the afternoon, i think were staying ahead of the curve. Full Water Service has just been restored. Crews spent thanksgiving day fixing the ruptured pipe near denman road and lincoln avenue east. The water main break cut off water to dozens of families and even forced two homes to evacuate. The residents were allowed back in their homes though last night. A terrifying encounter for a family in houston. A thief stole a truck with their t womans small children inside. Two sisters had been talking to a friend when their truck was carjacked. They say a man jumped . And then took off with one sisters children still inside. The kids were just 1 and 3 years old. And the women wasted no time. They got in their friends car and then took off after the thief. Eventually stopped the truck and pushed both children out. They were not hurt. 6 54. Reporter weve learned speed was a factor in the deadly crash that took the hives of two men here on the Grand Central parkway. The eastbound lanes here still shut down. They have been for hours and it looks lick it wont clear for a little while. Take a look here, the white box truck is just under the overpass where im standing and you can see it was pulled over on the shoulder and it appears the black Hyundai Elantra was driving in the eastbound lanes and slammed into the back of the parked box truck. Police tell us the white truck was driven by a 35 gerald man. He is continue yearold man. He is cooperating and he was not hurt. All cars are being diverted off lanes.
