And you can see about a four mile visibility at white plains but a half mile at belmar. The fog coming and going this morning, temperatures are really warm, the normal average afternoon High Temperature is 57 and were at 66 at the park. Of 3 bridgeport and white plains and montauk a couple of little sprinkles there on fire island. A big old southerly wind today going to pump up the moisture and today we could hit 77 and we like 7s. Its going to be very humid. Were going to talk about a big cooldown coming tonight in your accuweather seven day forecast. I dont like the sound of that. Happy friday to you. You too. We were told the construction was northbound but is thats a southbound delay. Between the 70s and 90s all lanes are subject to closure. Mass transit times, metronorth new Jersey Transit, Long Island Railroad, they are all running on or close to schedule and the street clowning rules in i for today. Over to you. Police are trying to track down the driver of a bus who hit and killed a woman crossing the street in queens. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama live now in flushing with the latest for us. Kala . Reporter yeah, we can tell you lori, that police have not identified that woman yet. And they are still looking for the driver as well as the bus that hit that woman. The woman was just crossing main street here last night and were told from police that the scene was actually pretty gruesome here. Severe trauma after being hit by some kind of tourist buses. The woman was kinding main street crossing main street not in the crosswalk when she was hit. Investigators have Surveillance Video to try and track down the tourist bus as well as the person behind the wheel. Theres possibility that the driver didnt know a woman was hit but other drivers saw the aftermath. I went to the corner and i grabbed large boxed to block large cardboard boxes to block the body so the cars would not keep trying to go over that body. Reporter we can tell you no matter what time of day it is, this is a busy area where people are always out and traffic is always going on here. And to tell you, this is the third pedestrian hit by a bus this week. The first in forest hills, queens, the second in brooklyn and now live in flushing, queens, kala rama, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Thank you. 4 34. A corrections officer at Rikers Island targeted by two inmates and then slashed. Eyewitness News Reporter dray clark is live at the entrance to Rikers Island with the story. Reporter sources tell Eyewitness News that one of the inmates involved here actually planned the attack on the corrections officer and they have phone recorded conversations of him discussing his intentions. Now that attack happened here last night. This is actually a photo of the corrections officer who was attacked. His injuries so grave, so severe, we actually had to blur them out. Now there were two inmates involved in the attack, one placed the officer in a choke hold and the over inmate other inmate slashed the officers face with a blade several teems. The emergency times. The Emergency Service responders rescued that officer and he was rushed to the hospital where he received more than 20 stitches. The president of the Correction Officers Union says these kinds of attacks keep happening because inmates have no fear of prosecution. The process the District Attorneys Office refuses to prosecute inmates that assault Corrections Officers. They see no punishment. They see no retribution. So theyre going to continue to do those things. Reporter the inmates involved in the most recent attack are only 18 and 19 years old. One of them actually right now charged with murder. Now it will be up to decide from the bronx da if they will face new charges in light of that vicious attack that happened here last night. Of breezy point by queens. Pictures show the devastating impact of the crash, the crash killed the pilot. He was flying solo and his single open gin plane wednesday night when the aircraft plunged into the waters. No indication he made a mayday call. The pilot 57yearold brad mcgee was a harvard educated retired Navy Commander. And successful businessman. He earned a pilot eastlins three years ago. 4 36. A wake today for the young bronx girl and her grandfather who died in last saturdays trickortreat tragedy. 10yearold nyanna aquil and 65yearold louis perez were killed on halloween when a car jumped the curb along morris park avenue. Todays weak is at the mcnolte funeral home. Tomorrows funeral sat the Harvest Field community church. And a prison worker accused of helping two Inmates Escape from an upstate new york prison is due in court today. 51yearold Joyce Mitchell will find out today how much restitution she will pay for repairs to the prison after cell walls were broken and a steam pipe cut open by the victim the convicts. State investigators estimate 120,000. Mitchell pleaded guilty in september to assisting in the escape. Arguments this morning in the trial of vincent asar row. I mean its just some kind of were looking at temperatures even above our normal average afternoon high. 66 degrees right now. The humidity 87 . Thats high. And a calm wind lets the spa kind of hang around today. 65 river dale and 66 whitestone and ridgewood and murray hill. 63 white plains and you can get over toward rockland county. Theyre around new city on the western side of the hudson river. Its about 63degrees there as well as in sussex and 59 monticello. All the numbers way way warm for this time of the year this hour of the day. A southerly wind is very light its coming in theres been a couple of showers that have been out here towards smith point. Where well see the showers cutting across Summit County and it towards the hamptons but the weather that comes tonight is in the form of this cold front thats in the ohio valley right now. You can see theres a lot of rain with this. And as it gets to us really starts to weaken but the cooler air is behind it. Watch, by the time 5 00 look how weak this is on the guidance. Just a few sprinkles at 5 00 west of the city and about 7 00 in the city you know and then its gone. Its pushing through the area and we have a few clouds to start on saturday. But then look at sunday, sunshine and right on into sunday evening. So were going to be looking at that passing shower coming this evening ahead of that will be record warmth with 77. And were going to be seeing this front sliding through with the cooler drier air and kind tomorrow, its a cool day. And you can see this wave down south it looks like it will be further to the south that will just put some clouds over central southern jersey and sun and clouds and 65. Then into saturday evening and saturday night, cooler air and further and clouds and sun this afternoon. Its quite warm. Its rather humid. 77 will smash the old record of 74 set back in 1948. So a passing shower early tonight then clearing low 59. Tomorrow sunshine and cooler and breezien saturday. The high 65. But thats still warmer than normal for this time of the year. Well have some seasonal what we call seasonal temperatures when its at the normal afternoon average high of 57. The low is 41. But you see next week were going to warm right back up into the 60s. That is an accident thats involved a tractortrailer and a car. Hopefully there are no injuries involved in that. That accident was just reported to us. Bqe northeast, right at catman plaza, you have a disabled vehicle and then just north of there, you have that ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge closed down with overnight construction. The Brooklyn Bridge is closedden bound until 6 00 a. M. In addition to that, as you try to take the battery park underpass its closed from the west hide highway coming along to the fdr drive. Then the fdr drive, you have that construction ongoing. Now we have reports that its northbound 79th to 96th street and i can see it. I have a cam. All lanes are subject to closure, you can sees that the northbound side where you have only the left lane open but southbound trafficful not here but getting into 96th street. Sail flooding at least 200 homes with toxic sludge. The dam burst in southeastern brazil and quickly burying the town with a toxic mix rather of water and mining residue. One person is dead. And the details in the murder of a 9yearold chicago boy seem to be more disturbing every day. Police now believe tie shaun lee was lured into the alley then executed because of his fathers alleged gang involvement. Detectives also say his father is not cooperating with investigators. Developing right now, weve just learned that police nave located may have located the bus that killed a woman in queens. A bus similar to the one that was found in the crash was stopped late last night in madison, connecticut. It appears the driver of the tourist bus didnt know they hit somebody. It happened at the intersection of main street and kissena boulevard in jamaica just after 8 00 last night. Foul well get a live update on this developing story ahead at 5 30 this morning. 5 03. A corrections officer at Rikers Island has serious gashes to his face this morning after an attack by two inmates. Eyewitness News Reporter dray clark is live now in east elmhurst, queens with more for us. Dray . Reporter good morning lori. The corrections officer never saw the attack coming but investigators say the two inmates involved. They planned the attack. And they wanted to seriously injure the officer by cutting him over and over again using a blade. This latest inmate attack will leave the corrections officer scarred for life. We had to blur the photo of the officer who was put in a choke hold by one inmate and then slashed by a second man with a blade. The officer was saved by Emergency Service responders and taken to a hospital in queens. Where he needed more than 20 stitches. The face slashing came just hours after the corrections commissioner issued new rules. Following the attack the Corrections Department said this safety is commissioner ponzis top priority and he has zero tolerance for assaults on staff. The department is seeking rearrest of any inmate involved. In all due respect to the commissioner of the agency, hes surrounded by individuals that dont know security and dont know the department of corrections and this is yet another example of how a correction officer will eventually lose their life in the confines of the jail because of mismanagement. The possibility that a terrorist bomb brought that plane looks increasingly likely. This morning there are new calls forren creased security for all planes bound for the united states. Lana zak joins us live from washington. Reporter to try and make foreign Airport Security as rigorous as the united states. Here airport workers could be credentialed every six months. In some foreign airports its as infrequent as every five years, the possibility that a terrorist bomb downed the plane is sending International Shock waves with implications for u. S. Travelers. Reporter the department of Homeland Security is expected to announce plans to tighten regulations on u. S. Bound flights from International Airports as early as today. A new jersey mother talks about her familys fear after one of her daughters is grazed by a bullet inside their own house. Cassie jones says that she heard a pop then screaming inside her asbury park home on wednesday night. Moments later she discovered her eldest daughter had been grazed on the forehead by a bullet. The gunfire came from a shootout between police and a suspect. Cassies mother was frantic when she saw the wound. I didnt know if she had been hit anywhere else. Her mother says they are now living in a hotel and the family hopes they can move to a different neighborhood. Coast guard now working to find a man who went overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship off the coast of the bahamas. Reporter ken i can tell you after reviewing that Surveillance Video, police sent out what could be on the lookout for to state troopers across new york and connecticut. Well troopers in connecticut thought they spotted a bus matching the terrific in matching the description in madison county. They pulled it over and overnight state police examined the bus for several hours. We dont know where that bus is now, but we just know that it matched the description of what new york police were looking for. As for the woman killed in the hit and run crash, she still has not been identiffed here. Take a look at this scene from late last night there. That woman police say suffered severe trauma after being hit by this tourist bus. The woman was crossing main street near kissena boulevard not in the crosswalk when she was hit. Investigators have video they were reviewing and there was a possibility the driver didnt know a woman was hit but other drivers certainly saw the aftermath. I ran to the corner and i grabbed large boxes to block large cardboard boxes to block the body so the cars would not keep trying to go over that body. Reporter this is the third pedestrian killed by a bus in less than a week. Is t first in forest hells, queens, the hills, queens and now were live in flushing queens. Thank you. New details now on the latest inmate attack in Rikers Island. It will leave the officer scarred for life. He was put in a choke hold last night but one inmate and by one inmate and then slashed with a blade by the second inmate. The officer was saved by Emergency Services responders and the Correction Department says quote safety is commissioner ponzis top priority. And he has zero tolerance for assaults on staff. The department is now seeking rearrest of any inmate involved. In all due respect to the commissioner of the agency, hes surrounded by individuals that dont know security and dont know the department of correction. And this is yet another example of how a correction officer will eventually lose their life in the confines of the jail because of mismanagement. So far this year, 216 correction officers have been attacked by inmates. Well, the prison worker accused of helping two Inmates Escape will be in court today. 51yearold Joyce Mitchell will find out today how much restitution she will pay to the prison. The state investigators estimate the damage to cost upward of 120,000, mitchell pleaded guilty in september to assisting in the escape. And jurors will hear closing arguments this morning in the trial of vincent asaro. The man accused in the historic height at new york airport. The robbery was the basis for a movie.
