A horrific fire has killed three members of a family trapped inside their home. Fire breaking out around midnight on jolene avenue in long bran. Call long branch. Kala rama is live at the scene. Reporter in the last ten minutes we have seen public works come to route 36, jolene avenue, sheet up the cones and shut down the road at rockwell avenue. Let me show you where the house is where the fire happened. We are being kept a block away and that is where a family of four was pulled out this morning. Three did not make it. One person still in Critical Condition this morning. Police tell me the family was apparently trapped inside their jolene avenue home which went up in flames around midnight. Rescue crews tried to make their way in but were pushed back by the intense flames engulfing that home. At this time, police are only saying a family of four, two adults and two kids were pulled out of the home. We are still trying to learn the ages of the people that were killed as well as the person in Critical Condition. Monmouth county Prosecutors Office has taken over the investigation. He told dispatchers he was running after three men yesterday morning in the town of fox lake, illinois. That is about 55 miles north of chicago. Communication with him was lost soon after that. Backup officers found him shot and stripped of his weapons and pepper spray. He died at the scene. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama is joining us live from the scene in long branch, kala . Reporter lori, in the last five minutes, a very sad scene. Family members, three of them, came here to check out the home of their loved ones to see the damage. They had nothing to say except that they were very devastated and could not talk at this time. We will tell you we are being kept a block and a half away. You can see down where the Fire Marshals Office is. Now that the sun has come up, you can see the police tape. That is the area where a family of four was pulled out this morning. Three people did not make it. One person is in Critical Condition we are told. Police tell me that the family was trapped in the house here on jolene avenue which went up in flames around midnight. He breaks down the chain of events here. Lets listen. They tried to get up to the second floor. The house was fully involved. Couldnt make their way past the smoke and fire. They tried their hardest to get up to the second floor where they thought there was people. They couldnt get up there until the fire trucks got on scene. Reporter at this point the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office has taken over the investigation. We had a number of calls in to their office. They have not returned any. All right, thank you. Breaking news in france. Eight people are dead after flames ripped through a paris apartment. At least two of the victims are children. This is new video just in to the newsroom. French Officials Say that firefighters had been to the building about two hours earlier to put out a small fire. More than 100 firefighters were called back to the scene when flames spread from a ground floor stairwell through the top of the building. We are working to update a developing story on long island. Two Suffolk County Police Officers were among four people hurt in a Chain Reaction crash in hauppauge. That started when the officers pulled over a car last night. A third car rear ended the Police Cruiser causing it to hit the first car. The two people in that car are in the hospital with serious injuries. The officers were treated and released. The driver of the third car is under arrest. New this morning, we have video to show you of the suspect in an attempted rape in upper manhattan. Police say that this man followed a woman into a building on west 172nd street in Washington Heights early last saturday morning. The suspect took the elevator with the woman, followed her to her door, then tried to attack her. She fought back, made it into her apartment and then the man ran off. Still ahead on Eyewitness News this morning, Tragedy Strikes twice for one family. A teenager shot and killed in queens at the same spot where his brother was murdered three years ago. Police are searching for the thieves that managed to pull off a Major Jewelry heist from a store in the bronx. In queens the search is on for two suspects after a teenage boy was shot and killed. This is the top story on abc7ny. Surveillance video showing the suspects taking off sunday night after police say they shot and killed a 16yearold at the corner of seagirt and beach 26th in rockaway. The victims older brother was shot on the same Street Corner more than three years ago. The community gathered for a vigil remembering both boys. The search continues this morning for suspects in the Jewelry Store heist in the bronx. It sounds like it was out of a movie. Police say the burglars grabbed at least 100,000 worth of jewels and cash from the store in fordham. The crooks disabled security cameras and a neighboring restaurant and then entered the Jewelry Store through the roof. Mission impossible. It looked like they came through the roof. They broke into the safe and they did a big hole and used like a saw or something to break the safe. Workers say the crooks disabled all the store security cameras except one. Police are looking over that surveillance video. It is 6 40.
