This afternoon inside the home, the cause still unknown. The police say it does not appear to be suspicious. You can see from the video the intense flames shooting out of this house. Firefighters tried to get in right when they got here, but because of the strong smoke and the fire, it really kept them back for quite some time. Eight Fire Departments responded. When fire investigators were finally able to get into the home, they found the two victims on the first floor of the house in the same room. Neighbors tell us they ran to the home when they first saw the flames. I started to hear sounded like an elderly lady inside screaming help. I called immediately, i called 911 immediately. A woman was on the sidewalk, she was hit, pinned under the vehicle. We obtained exclusive cell phone video that shows the chaos right after that crash. I could see her hand and her head was twisted. Everyone started calling 911, and there was one man that said he was a doctor and we needed to lift the car. So people started trying to lift the car but then the police said no dont touch the car, dont touch the car. The cab driver stayed at the scene and so far no charges have been filed. Investigators are releasing for the latest slashing attack in the bronx. The victim, a man, was attacked while sitting in a parked car on la fontaine avenue in the tremont section. Brandon marshall had to fight back tears today as he testified in federal court. Marshall said he feared for his life after several fights broke out at a manhattan nightclub back in 2012. Parents calling for an end to the violence in new york the group has filed a lawsuit against the department of education. They say the department of education does not do enough to protect children when it comes to bullying and violence involving students and teachers. We spoke with parents who say their children have been victims of violence in school. Im diana williams. And im sade baderinwa. We begin with a developing story. An elderly couple killed when their home caught fire on long island. Theyve lived in that home for more than 50 years. The wife was in a wheelchair. And desperate neighbors did everything they could to get them out of the burning home but they just couldnt reach them in time. Long island reporter kristin i just spoke with a woman who says she used to bring communion to the couple here in their home. She said they were married for more than 69 years. So devoted to each other. In fact, she says the man took care of his wife who was wheelchairbound after she suffered a stroke several years ago. Reporter neighbors couldnt believe the flames coming out of the home on swezey street in patchogue, as the seconds ticked by, it just seemed to get worse and worse. Then we heard voiced, i dont know if they were coming from inside the house, it was too dark to tell. We felt the heat. We had had to back up out of there. My husband tried to get in the backdoor. The backdoor was locked. Smoke was billowing out. It was too late to even get near them. Reporter firefighters also had a hard time getting in to the house. Dozens of them responded but the flames and smoke kept them back. The cause of the fire under investigation. Reporter when the smoke and flames finally cleared, investigators found the elderly couple in the same room on the first floor of the home. Theyre in the house over 50 years so theyve been married for a real long time. He was a korean war vet. And he grew up in patchogue. Hes a native of this town. And theyve been living there forever.
