His new film goes into wide release today, and entertainment reporter sandy kenyon has more on the oscar buzz surrounding the film. The remnant is a man who comes back from the dead, and the story of how hugo glass survived in the wilderness back in 1823 has become the stuff of legends, all the more powerful because he really did it. You are trying to kind of retrace their foot steps, so to speak, or get as close as we possibly could. Leonardo dicaprio, and tom hardy brave the canadian temperatures got as low as 40 degrees below 0. You do get into this kind of survival mode of just wanting to stay warm, and well fed. And just push on and persevere. Only safe thing to do is track a new course back up on land. Moving forward here required dicaprio to eat raw bison meat and learn how to shoot a musket. But that didnt help him here. In the context of making movies, this is one of the more difficult ones i have ever done in my life. The shoot lasted the better part of a year, and the memory of it is so fresh the star says its hard to judge the final results. Throughout his career, dicaprio has challenged hollywood notions of what it means to being a leading man at teams hiding how handsome he is. What we knew we signed on for was like an epic saga or adventure rather than making a movie, and that living it is what you end up seeing on screen. He has been rewarded with an oscar nomination four times, but he has never won. Now dicaprio is the favorite for this role.
