Stormed the place. A neighborhood that was sound asleep awoke this morning to this. [ sound of gunfire ] and not for just a minute. There was sporadic gunfire for hours. And explosions and screaming it seemed everywhere. [ speaking Foreign Language ] we felt the building shake. There were guys upstairs screaming. Shoot, shoot. Reporter and boy did they shoot. Two people were killed and one woman detonated a suicide vest and took her own life. The authorities described the two who died as terrorists. But seven people were arrested. And police havent described them at all yet. And thats where it all gets a little murky. The french prosecutor said definitively when over that Abdelhamid Abaaoud was not among those arrested. The prosecutor did not say if he was killed. Some media reports say he was. The owner of the building where the raid took place said he didnt know the men inside and he was asked to house them by a friend. We dont know anything. If i knew something, do you really think i would have let them stay here . Reporter so the picture about who they got today is still a little they believe they are convinced these people were terrorists. Again one of the people a woman detonated an explosive device around her waist. And killed herself. So these these are people who were definitely involved in something prosecutors and police here believe. And the picture about exactly who they have and who they dont have remains unclear. S. , the debate over whether to accept Syrian Refugees rages on with mayor de blasio calling out governor christie over his plan to stop refugees from coming to new jersey. Governor christie specifically said he did not think it was appropriate for small children to be brought in. Is this what he wants to see happen to people . To children . He added there will be intensive screening before the city accepts anyone. Well, as political leaders continue to battle over how to handle the refugees from syria. It led to the program being suspended for about six months and were told they much improved it after that. Its a much Different Program today than it was then. Good to hear about that. Shift now and talk about the investigation into is happening in that is happening in paris, what do we know about raids that happens earlier today and how close were they to another possible terror attack and the suspects . They believe they came very close to having another attack pulled off. This was a second team in this cell that were told could have included as many as 20 people. All part of this one cell. And as jim dolan was reporting they thought they had the mastermind. So far, they dont think they do. They have one body and they havent identified and theyre waiting to see if thats him. This is a man who has been in and out of europe back and similar raid just this last january and boasted about it to the publication isis put out. Members of the American Band whose concert was attacked are speaking out for the First Time Since the tragedy. Eagles of death metal sent out this photo of the french flag along with a message saying they are home safe and are trying to come to terms with what happened. The band members also say that their thoughts and hearts are with their merchandise manager Nick Alexander and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken. Were going to turn now to the other news of the day that is happening in our community here. Hospital right now after he was shot by police in brooklyn. Shooting happened this afternoon on montgomery street in crown heights. This is video of officers taking the suspect into custody. Police say it all began blocks away when an officer tried to pull the mans car over for speeding. That set off a chase. The suspect crashed into a truck and ran from the car carrying a handgun. Police say during the foot chase, he tripped and fell and dropped the gun. The officer standing a short distance away gives several warnings. The individual does not heed the warnings. Attempts to grab the gun. Our officer discharges his firearm twice. Well, the suspect was hit once in the stomach and investigators say a handgun was recovered at the scene. A child is in the hospital this afternoon recovering after he fell from a third floor window in the bronx. 2yearold da mere Holmes Carter broke through the window screen and tumbled out of the third floor. Those are the words from the little boys mother dave who cant believe her son survived that three story fall. Its one of the most Amazing Stories you will ever hear. Little damere Holmes Carter had been left alone for just a moment in a bedroom up stairs and tumbled through a window three stories to the backyard below. Well, how he did that is still not clear. But video of the window obtained exclusively by Eyewitness News tonight shows what it looked like. Little boy pulled himself up into the window frame then tumbled through it. His family says there was a flimsy screen in the window frame that simply broke tree when he apparently pushed up against it. Well seconds after the fall, he apparently stood up, dazed, but with no other obvious injuries. Hes been taken to the hospital and evaluated for broken bones. And yet, his mom spoke with us just a few minutes ago. Im blessed. Im blessed. Thats all i can say. And god is really good. Because it can be so much worse. It can be horrible. But hes responding. Hes he calls for mommy. He calls for daddy. Grandpa. And right now, he has his Prayer Warriors around him right now. Reporter and back now the live picture you can see exactly where it happened. His mother didnt give us her name but again, her little boy expected to be just fine. Likely to be hospitalized overnight. And treated for a possible concussion. But yes, this was a close call. No window guards but they are not required here under new york city law because there are only two apartments in the building. But his mother says this was a wakeup call. Well, we have new details about two men rescued if a from a broken scaffolding in midtown. Eyewitness news viewers first to send us the pictures from the ground. The men were on some scaffolding on the side of the building on west 38th street and Second Avenue and for some reason, the scaffolding just stopped moving 22 floors up. They were stuck for about an hour. The fdny quickly mobilized and reached the workers. Special operations units along with our operational units went up and secured the scaffold and secured the men. Were were able to cut through the window and successfully remove them window. Ems evaluated the men and they were not injured. A team with the scaffolding Company Along with the fdny now trying to figure out why the equipment stopped moving. Were going to turn now to the weather and i know its pretty mild out there today. But a soaking rain is heading towards our area. Meteorologist lee goldberg is outside of the studios and timing out the storm. Lee . Slowly if clouds keep thicken and even a little bit of drizzle down to the philly area i think later tonight well see a little bit of drizzle. This storm impacting us tomorrow. Well, its centered all the way over the upper midwest but its going to whip through this band of rainfall during the day tomorrow. Its still pretty far away so its a while before we get into the steady rainfall. So yes, some sprinkles and drizzle can start the develop overnight. Youll need the umbrella by tomorrow morning. Because therell be some patchy light rape or drizzle but rain or drizzle but no major weather concerns at least in the morning hours. Probably the steadiest part of the storm tomorrow afternoon into the first part of tomorrow night and especially heavy later at night over connecticut and long island. If that happens, then youre looking at extended rainfall east of new york city later tomorrow night and that could push rainfall totals east of the city over an inch and a half. Right now offduty and refired Law Enforcement refire tired Law Enforcement personnel cannot wary weapons. But carry weapons. But now theres a new push to let them be armed. Tim fly receiver outside of metlife Tim Fleischer is live outside metlife stadium. Reporter this is actually between nfl policy versus a Law Enforcement stand over firearms in among the thousands of fans heading into metlife stadium, chances are there are offduty Police Officers and even retired officers. But under nfl policy, they cannot bring their firearms into the stadium. I would think theyd be responsible to carry a firearm and protect people. Reporter through this online petition effort, the Nypds Sergeants Benevolent Association is hoping to convince the nfl to change its policy. The groups president Sergeant Ed Mullins writes this is not only a Law Enforcement issue, it is its a Public Safety issue that must be immediately addressed. Well, a family of refugees from syria will start a new life in connecticut after indiana leaders say they didnt want them. Instead of arriving in indianapolis, the mother father and 5yearold son are now settling into a home in new haven thats temporary. The governor of indiana among those opposed to accepting Syrian Refugees. One of the paris attackers was believed to have entered paris posing as a refugee from syria. I told them that people in the United States are generous and good people. But sometimes things happen elsewhere that cause people to to forget about their generosity and to forget about their native warmth. And spirit. But that will return. A connecticut expects to take in about 250 refugees over the next year. Its unclear how many would be from syria. A School Superintendent on that the real dangers from synthetic marijuana. A Consumer Reports has released a new report saying that meat and poultry raised without antibiotics are less likely to have drugresistant bacteria than meats from animals that get antibiotics routinely. According to the cdc, at least two million americans get antibiotic resistant infections every year and Consumer Reports is concerned that regular use of antibiotics in animals raised for food is lessening the effectiveness of antibiotics in the future. That in fact is the Public Health crisis we have going on today. That antibiotics are less effective in treating illness. Well, the organization found that ground beef raised from cows regularly given with antibiotics was twice as likely to carry superbugs than cows raised without them. Antibiotics are often used to promote growth and prevent disease. And the meat and poultry industry, the fda plans to phase out antibiotics to promote growth but healthy animals can still get them for disease prevention. The big question what to do . We have abcs chief health and medical editor dr. Richard besser with a tell me the truth dedicated to this. Tell me why again . So theyre use today treat sick animals but thats not what they are talking about here, theyre talking about antibiotics that are given to food animals to promote growth. We know that giving low doses of antibiotics in the feed to animals causes them to grow faster and larger. Its actually information that shows the same thing happens in people. Early antibiotic exposure is linked to obesity. The problem is the low dose of antibiotics can also increase the chances that animal will carry drugresistant bacteria. And so you get sick without bacteria. Treat it. Thats very worrisome. What should people what kind of meat should people buy antibiotic hormone free . Well yeah, its a tough i mean the first thing is make sure you handle the meat well. When you cook mat you wont get the infections. But when you buy the meat i think it a good idea to look for meat that does not have antibiotics involved in the growing of that that animal. It that animal. It can be hard, one thing to look for usda organic. No antibiotics, raised without antibiotics and also you can be assured that doesnt have antibiotics and certified humane global Animal Welfare approved. But be careful. Natural does not mean antibiotic free. In fact, it has no real meaning. The fda is tying to define what that means right now companies can use it on anything. And hormone free means hormone free but not antibiotic free. Interesting. Interesting. And youre right. You would think meat in and of itself is natural. It doesnt need bacteria are natural. I dont know what natural is. Thats a good twist on natural. And important one. People have been hearing again and again the you take if you take too many antibiotics it weakens your system. That message gets through but so many people will go to the local clinics and they say you know dont go to the doctor because if you want to get knocked down that infection. Theyll give you theyll and they get better quickly. So they use that you know as an example of hey, im going to get my antibiotics in me and its going to knock down my fever from whatever i have. I have so many patients who would say to me you know can you give my child an antibiotic just in case . Well just in case is not a good way to go. Antibiotics work well for bacterial infections and they can really have a big impact but colds and flus are caused by viruses and antibiotics dont work there. And antibiotics have side effects. You know, every time you take the antibiotics it increases the chances that the next infection you get will be drug resistant and antibiotic resistant. Only use them when you really need them. And ask your doctor what you can do to feel better. If you ask for the antibiotic doctors are more likely to give it to you. Oh wow. If secure the question the wrong way you are more likely to get a drug that you dont needs. Really interesting. This is get smart about antibiotics week and really focus on it and i just stay sick for one episode and then take another one on the next one, maybe thats better . No. Doesnt work that way.
