So many people have been pulling over their cars, just mouths open, in shock at whats left of the fixture here in englewood. People are heart broken over the fire destroying it in holy week. This fire starting around 8 00. The fire tore through the chapel, tore down handcarved giant beautiful support beams that carried the weight of the slate covered roof. The flames also broke out the stained glass windows including one tiffany window. This church was built in 1870. The pastor tells me there was no fire damage to the bottom floor or the basement but those are now under several feet of water from fighting this fire. Last week the pastor told jim dolan he was ready to worship in a parking lot if need be but turns out he will not have to. For the outpouring of support.
