A landlord speaking out for the first time about one of her tenants. A mother and her 15yearold daughter shot in the car in new jersey. They were trying to get away from the gunman when they crashed in to a pole. New jersey reporter toni yates at the Police Department in linden. This family is seeing a blessing in the face of this tragedy. Thats because doctors at University Hospital in newark have told Linden Police that this mother who was shot several times will survive. As you said, she was trying to get away from a gunman who was trying to kill her and her child. When i saw that car wrapped around that pole, i knew it was her because i know her car and my heart goes out to the family. Reporter this is the toyota camry Regina Jarvis saw in pictures wrapped around a utility pole. It was her tenant who was driving, speeding away from a gunman who was ambushed and shot the woman and her daughter as they were getting in to the car on middlesex street in linden. Her daughter observed a man approaching her. Apparently words were exchanged between the man and younger girl and the mother became concerned and told the daughter to get in the car. Once the daughter got in the car, they were starting to pull out of the driveway. The man drew a firearm, a handgun, and walked around to the front of the car and proceeded to fire multiple gunshots at the car. Reporter the mother, bleeding from several gunshot wounds, hit the gas and made it a block away, crashing in to a utility pole on east henry street. Critically hurt but she was out of the gunmans range. Saved her life and her 15yearold daughters. Shes a pleasant girl. Her girlfriends come pick her up. They go to school. I cant understand who would do Something Like this because theyre good people. Reporter police are trying to find the masked gunman and his motive. Daughter or both were targeted. Its premature in to the investigation. Well have to do digging in the background of both to see what precipitated this attack. Police say this passenger aimed a laser pointer at the Rearview Mirror last wednesday in the tree mont all the passengers got out including the man with the laser pointer. In new jersey fire destroyed one house and damaged newscopter7 was over the scene as firefighters worked. The fire began in a vacant home and spread to homes on both sides. People lived in one of the neighboring homes but everyone managed to get out safely. Hoboken finally getting the upper hand on a broken water main. City Officials Say repairs are doing well. Hoboken is getting water from another source and will keep it flowing through thanksgiving. Streets affected by flooding are expected to reopen by saturday. More protests and growing outrage in chicago today over the video showing a Police Officer shooting a teenager. The shooting happened last year but just yesterday the video was released and murder charges filed in the case prompting what took so long. Reporter a call for answers and accountable. Community leaders and activists reacting to this dashcam video, the video captured the moment officer Jason Van Dyke opens fire on 17yearold laquan mcdonald. We freezeed the video here but prosecutors say even after mcdonald collapsed, van dyke kept shooting. 16 bullets seconds. It is unfathomable and unacceptable that it would take a year when all of the facts in this case were known the night it happened. Reporter the shooting occurred more than a year ago. It began with Police Responding to a report of a suspect with a knife breaking in to cars. After van dyke began shooting, the video shows another officer kicking a knife away from mcdonalds body. Investigators say mcdonald never threatened the officers. At the end of the day id rather take my time and bet it right than rush to judgment and get it wrong. Reporter calling the investigation complex on tuesday, prosecutors announced murder charges against van dyke, the same day a court order led to the release of the video. Some upset protesters are now demanding the citys top cop to resign. Van dykes attorney is arguing the officer feared for his life. The city in the meantime has reached a 5 million settlement with the mcdonald family. The funeral was held today in minnesota for a man killed during a confrontation with police. Hundreds of mourners paid their respects to 24yearold jumar clark. He was shot and killed during a struggle with police last week. His death sparked more than a week of protests. Witnesses insist clark was handcuffed but police dispute that. Protesters want investigators to release video of that shooting. In paris new numbers rates at some hotels have plummeted by more than 30 in the days since those terrorist attacks. Meanwhile french president Francois Hollande and german counselor Angela Merkel laid flowers. As france and belgium continue their hunt for two fugitives believed to be involved in the attacks, the belgian capital is starting to return to normal. That revelation from the family of a former new york giant. Giffords brain was donated to research on football injuries and head trauma after his death in august. So this is something theyre on and they will continue to keep new yorkers safe as theyve done. A Wild Police Chase in new jersey. The whole thing caught on camera. Throughout the 20minute pursuit, the suspect and police weaved in and out of traffic, dodging oncoming traffic and hit speeds of over 100 Miles Per Hour. When you see it, it is amazing no one was hurt. Eyewitness News Reporter jim hoffer is in the news room with details. When you think of how many miles this chase covered through several counties across state lines it seems impossible no one got killed. Injury and the very thing that faced danger from this reckless fugitive is what in the end helped to catch him. Traffic. Reporter the chase at times reaching speeds up to 110 Miles Per Hour. Captured on dashboard camera inside the police car, the palisade parkway officer. You can hear police radio transmissions as the chase unfolds and as the murder suspect endangers his life and many others as he suddenly veers off the parkway and across the median through a gas station. The suspect then heads southbound in to northbound traffic on the parkway. Stunned motorists desperately trying to swerve out of his way. He continues driving in to oncoming traffic for nearly a full minute. At times the chase reaching speeds between 70 and 90 Miles Per Hour. Near the gw david campos, exits the parkway on to roads in fort lee, flying through red lights and busy intersections, the Parkway Police in close pursuit as they learn campos is armed and dangerous, suspected in the stabbing death of his exgirlfriend hours earlier in her home in upstate troy, new york. About 15 minutes in to the chase near secaucus, campos entered the new jersey turnpike heading southbound. Its on this stretch where campos hits speeds nearing 110 Miles Per Hour in a last chance effort to get away. But this out of state driver not used to new jersey traffic never account ed for backups at the turnpike tolls which soon became his undoing. He hits a line of tractortrailers, veers on to the right shoulder, trying to get past them, but soon hits a wall of traffic at exit 18s toll plaza. Getaway comes to a stop as traffic, perhaps in the first, saves the day as Police Surround his car and capture the suspected killer. As yo did not resist arrest. He remains in Bergen County jail on new jersey charges of attempting to elude police. Hes awaiting extradition to troy for the stabbing death of his exgirlfriend. Charges are pending. We should note it was an automatic license plate reader in the new York State Police troopers car that spotted campos vehicle on the new york throughway. Up next, the search for the now to that shocking discovery at a church in queens. Were learning new details about the newborn found in a nativity display. Here to determine if this is the mother who left the infant at Holy Child Jesus Church and now were hearing from the custodian who first spotted the baby boy. Holy Child Jesus Church here is a safe haven, meaning you can leave a child here but under new york state law, the abandoned child has to be handed over to an adult at the safe haven location. Thats not what happened here. We asked the queens da, could this mother face any charges . They really did not want to answer that question, only saying they want to speak with her. Reporter police want to speak with the woman you see in the hooded sweatshirt. The Surveillance Video shows her buying a towel from a 99 cents store around the corner from the church. The clerk here tells us its unclear if shes the mother of the baby boy found monday afternoon lying in a nativity being set up here inside Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill. Custodian jose moran was cleaning the church when he heard crying. I felt nervous at the beginning when i saw him but happy because i saved his life. Moran called over to the rectory office, parishioner Regina Santoro ran over to help. I picked up the towel and opened up the towel and his little face was there and he started to move around. Reporter santoro called for geraldine walsh, the school nurse at the perish school. We assessed the baby. Respiratorywise he was fine, he was breathing okay. He was moving. I tied a knot in the umbilical cord and we wrapped him up and made sure he was warm and kept him comfortable till the ambulance came. Reporter doctors say the baby was about hours old by the time he saw doctors at jamaica hospital. Hes healthy and doing just fine. It was scary at first but at the end it all wound up being like a little miracle. The child right now is in the custody of the administration for Children Services although i have been told a family here at the perish is interested in adopting the child and has reached out to the appropriate people.
