Today in advance of the popes arrival a new initiative between the mayor and new york archdiocese to house the homeless before winter sets in. Reporter there is shelter, there is food and there are services to help the homeless. What Saint Anthonys already provides 35 men each day is what the city wants to be able to provide in a partnership with the new york archdiocese. An add add ring of authenticity on the visit of the arrival of the pope named after the man who did so much for the poor. Reporter the city would use some of the Church Facilities that are no longer in use for under the Opening Doors the archdiocese is pledging 50 beds. We cant see our fellow new yorkers as a problem. We have to see them as people who have not yet been redeemed and helped in the way they need to. This is for any homeless individual that has not come into the shelter system. We are looking at places where we can have smaller groups of people. We can connect them with services, social services that will come to them.
