Well, we have become an organization of expertation. Theres expectation when you win a championship in 2010 and there is expectation when you get in that ballpark everyday and its over flowing with your love and affection and there is purity in the formula that this Organization Goes about trying to meet those standards of excellence. It starts with the fans of historians that we call investors that kept us here in San Francisco and goes to the front office comprised of men and women dedicating their lives to this team and goes to baseball operations and the fierce the fierce, the ferocious drive of brian saibian and his staff and the most storied manager in San Francisco giants history and his teachers and coaches and on to the training and medical staff, but inevitably it will always draw right on the backs of the men who have numbers on their backs. Its up to them to forge together a chemistry that allows them to believe in one another and this they did. This they did. And with sergio romo threw the last pitch in the 2012 season and he struck out miguel cabriara this group in one pitch they justified they justified that expectation, and now they stand before you today humbly stand before you today, and their accomplishment has matched the verrossity of your adoring devotion. No other way to say it and to allow them to plant a plag and once again they can say it loudly we are the giants. We are San Francisco, and we are the world champions. [cheers and applause] audience lets go giants lets go giants lets go giants i would like now to introduce a couple of guys who have inspired all of us with their journeys in this game of baseball. Please welcome two of the foundations to this championship team, Ryan Vogelsong and barry zito. [cheers and applause] how are you guys doing . [cheers and applause] me and vogy have a special relationship and we were talking in detroit after we clinchd and i told him how much he inspired him and respects him and me and him have been through states of hell in this game and the lows have been very low but were enjoying the highs of the highs right now and thanks to these guys right here and thanks to all you guys and its a real honor to be up here and be part of helping this team this year. Such a blessing so thank you very much. [cheers and applause] well, i have been told by older people on this team i need to keep this quick. There are two reasons we won and one we came together and as hunter said we played for the names on the front and not on the back and because of you fans. The way you brought us fort in the season and the post season. We went to the other cities and they werent as loud as you and quite frankly detroits fans werent even norly as loud as you and thats why we won and thank you very much and i told the team i was going to do this and we have a battle cry that nobody knows about and im going to break it out right now and you have to figure it out. Its as simple as this youre going to jail now. Hard to beat. Three more main stays to this championship team. Matt cain, sergio romo and buster posey. [cheers and applause] well, now we have no chance after that. This has been such an unbelievable ride this year. All these guys came together early in spring and really believed in each other. We had an eventful year and we have romo being romo behind us, but this has been truly amazing and without you guys we wouldnt be here and you guys are by far the best fans in baseball and we got to all right that all this season and its unbelievable and this next guy needs no introduction but we will give him one anyway. Mvp posey. [cheers and applause] thank you. Audience mvp mvp thank you for me look looking around and seeing all the excitement and happiness on everyones face you realize an accomplishment like this means more than just winning a game. This is about making memories with your family and friends to last a lifetime and i think we all know and believe that if you think somethings achievable as long as youre willing to work hard enough for it and believe it can happen you can get it done and i just want to thank you guys for all your energy and excitement you bring to San Francisco and for the giants day in and day out. You all are the best. Thank you. [cheers and applause] well, audience romo, romo. Well, first off congratulations San Francisco. We definitely couldnt have done it without you guys. I will venture to say there is one thing i noticed about my team we are a great example of this city. Look at the diversity of personalities, where we all come from, the different faces from different stories and we all have one goal in mine. We had one job in mine. We had one dream in mine and that is to be World Series Champions with this group and i am proud to say that. You guys the same thing. We couldnt have done it without you, the city of San Francisco. Like i said you guys better be proud. You need to be proud and i will tell you for dang sure we are all World Series Champions and wearing orange and black in San Francisco. [cheers and applause] all right. Now i would like to introduce two more gentlemen. The first gentleman his first year with the giants and goes to the world series. I would like to thank the San Francisco giants for giving me the opportunity to play in front of you guys, the fans. My family. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for understanding my career. Its very tough but i try to do the best everyday. Thank you to my teammates because they have taught me so many thing this year to play with a lot of heart and determination and passion for this game. They made me a better player but i want to Say Something special. I want to thank the fans and when we struggled through the year and i saw the fans everyday and that only give us a lot of courage, more energy to go and play hard for you guys. I want to thank you fans when we were zerotwo against cincinnati and down against st. Louis you never gave up, never. But i want to salute you in guys because you always believed in us. Thank you. [cheers and applause] [inaudible] played with all heart. All right. All right everyone. Everyones been talking about the speech and a lot about the reverend which is a lot of empty smoke if you ask me. There is one simple thing that happened with this team that hasnt been talked about enough and it was sacrifice. When i went up and talked to these guys i asked them to sacrifice themselves and play for each other and you wont see that too often with this big of a stage and the playoffs with this great group of super stars. They sacrificed their ego and they played for you guys and this is what this celebration is about. Its about you. Thank you guys. We are going to bring this together. We want you to join in what we do in the dug out. I want you teach you about this and this is how we did it and i want you to lose your mind. Ladies and gentlemen, this is how we get pumped up before we kill every team baby. Every join with me. Hands in the hair. We going to slow clap this and bring it up. clapping . [cheers and applause] show them how we do it. Well, we scream and have fun guys. This is about have fun and thats how we did it. Thats how we do it boys. Enjoy San Francisco. [cheers and applause] [cheers and applause] thank you very much announcer b dreams and good grades arent enough to get into college. There are actual steps you need to take. Finding someone who can help is the first and most important. For the next steps, go to knowhow2go. Org. Happy that all of you could come out and join us, you know, on this evening. My namey. The director of the night rover challenge. Im going to kind of be the moderator for tonight, as we go through this firstever challenge america summit. So ive got just a few things that, you know, i wanted to do with everyone, before we get into the program. First of all, i just want to take a minute and have everyone just look around this room. In this room, we have amazing people that are corporate, nonprofit, and government, all focused on challenge driven innovation in some way or another. This is a really powerful, interf people that are gathered here to look at how competitions can drive innovation. Thats what tonight is all about, is, you know, the next step in creating a real wave of innovation. My job tonight is just to give you a little bit of background on what we are, what were tiqp q s that we have. Roup of so just to get going with that, i want to tell you a little bit about this thing called the night rover < challenge. This is a collaboration between the clean tech open, unoodle, and nasa. Its a program from nasas office of centennial challenges. And its challengin the best innovators in america to create radical new Energy Storage technology. You know, way above what we have now. This is something very powerful, to be able to keep rovers going on the moon, in mars, things that could be useful, in your cell electric vehicles, something that just is a radical leap in new technology. But i dont want to go into a lot of detail on that. Youll hear more about nasas efforts later. And what im going to do1r is ge a little more background on challengedriven innovation. And im going to do that just by plaijerrizing some people because it makes it a loteasier for me. I want to look at this quote, prize is a very old an old idea that is surprisingly powerful in our modern society. This is by a study that by mckenzie and company, back in 2010. Prize is a very old idea, very powerful in our modern society. Surprisingly powerful in our modern society. Mckenzie also said this, 32,000, in 2010, there were 32,000no competitions, competitions, prizes, awards. Thats a big number. It could be bigger but its a big number, for one year, 32,000 competitions happened. To continue on in myk mckenzie also said this, while tens of thousands of prizes and awards are give out every year, weve been struck by the lack of conferences or professional associations to share best practices and facilitate collaboration. Now theres some kind of relationship between what doing here today, and that. I dont know exactly what it is, but hopefully by the end of tonight and tomorrow, we can start j were doing here, can really start toqphp having an organization, or, you know, somethingd exactly what mckenzie is saying is missing. So this just brings me to myo last question. And its why are we here. Here inca this room. Thats just one side of it. Im not talking about why were here in som galactic cosmic sense of thea word. What im talking about is a more important part of that question. I am missing a slide in there. So the important part of that question was why are we here in San Francisco. And were here in San Francisco because San Francisco is one of the most innovative cities in the galaxy, and its a very great place to be the home of the challenge america summit, the firstever challenge america summit. So its now my job to introduce our first speaker of the night, who is going to officially kick off the firstever challenge america summit, somebody who has been verylfe instrumental in creating a movement around innovation in San Francisco. Just a few months ago, announced october as innovation month inla whole lot of work on, you know, creating a g real ecosystem for entrepreneurs, for governments, for everybody to create new ideas and new innovations. Please join me in welcoming mayor ed lee to the floor. [applause. ] thank you. Thank you, josh. Welcome, everybody. Now that i know where im at, i want to welcome all of you, i want to of course thank the night challenge night rover
