I really liked i made note one the comments i actually liked a line that came from one of the comments the word is out and i think this really sums it ulcer up the word is utility about our waterfront weve been successful and part of the same authors comments no one knew it was down here and now everybody want to be here we have to be good structured of our success to accommodate someone coming here it sums it out the word is out our waterfront is really here for all of us to share were looking at 9 next phase of how we finish up optometry of the work in the original plan and fourth has pointed out whats left dancing around that issue for many months and love the chart you put forward it really is i know weve struggled with the have on visual and think that is included it is terrific on that front. As sort of enhances what weve done in a great graphic it took a lot of work to instill is into something its visually understandable. So i think our mission over the next several months to figure out how to expand the public involvement and outreach and share what we have going on here and what commissioner ho also started this i know all of us who sit on there isnt that much left we have done so much to work on the waterfront in bits and pieces im excited to figure out how to afford that being said there is the seawall rise and the impact of that on everything we do and how he finance it and theres another commenter pit it, its not just a port ability responsibility this is the waterfront is for all of us and conversely we all have to figure out how were going to address the seawall rise as it impacts the waterfront they made the analogy of city hall its a treasurer for the whole he city i know one of our tavengz to figure out how we come up with partnerships and other relationships both local and regional and state and federal how well address accident impacts of seawall rise i talked to someone in an area that gets flooded i dont know if theyre from the netherlands or not but a bit more than that but certainly very simply is something we have to that about it anyone comes in our new tenants and everything involved well have to take a look at the Sea Level Rise goes far beyond our boundary links here with the Sea Level Rise weve seen as a presented a huge impact on the projects of the city and the businesses that have located here and housing has gone into areas that will be flooded but we need to be prepared and something we all have to look at it and fourth how we get that participation and funding for not just the port fundable resources and sources well not be able to accomplish now is the time to look at it not when the disaster strikes like in new york we have the lushgs of a little bit more time but im pleased that is front and center of our effort as we move forward one of the things that i know we havent sit down an absolute date it will be a rolling process for other comments is that and the short answer is yes, but really what is reflective of a conversation that has started when we roll out information it tends to generate more inquire which is you know were going to have to try you know and get our armors around any public process to update the plan itself it is a space in time to be able to host information on specified issues you may hear on the street questions and issues coming up that are of the nature and we want to supporting support that related to that i guess commissioner president katz to our point of Sea Level Rise and transportation there is a very healthy city family dialog that is going on now i think that the city advances are starting to get its arms around the scope of the Sea Level Rise with the Capital Committee and this puc and the mta this is actually something that is real and happening we intent on cpa on that similarly with the citys transportation issues many of the transportation issues are not of the port per say but thought larger city needs were trying to fourth our goal in that as well between that our relationship with the b cdc and the state land we feel weve got the right players at the table to form a discussion. Thank you. We call that a leading question or comment i think ill start beating that drum. I know weve touched on the process but i wonder if you could articulate a little bit more where you think we should be focusing on developing the process Going Forward and not only how we as the commission can help what more we can do to solicit support and information for the public. At a staff level certainly the advisors groups that the port staff has set up to inform us of the issues in the various sectors of the waterfront theyre limited to the certain areas and dont speak necessarily to the port wide issues that are coming out in this study there are very important because their knowledgeable stakeholder that said for any pun process Going Forward we want to make sure weve got a current set of stakeholder representatives on each of the advisors groups that are representative of the issues were going to be discussing on the court wide issues weve flagged there is some kind of a Public Participation structure with stakeholders from a boarder citywide reach to engage the port and the city on those port wide issues along with the bcdc representatives that are selected for health identified by bcdc state lands i think weve all come to understand the indicas what is consistent with the public trust and how to balance it with the Public Benefits and the Public Access and be able to finance the improvements along the waterfront are shared by both parties so we see ourselves refreshing and looking at want current membership of the advise groups we have representing that membership with the areas we want to make sure are covered and making sure we have a port widebody that can also homogenize and integrated integrate the recommends on the waterfront and tells you about the outreach has been so far is there a process getting it out citywide. We have been working at a number of Different Levels certainly to starting with the port authoritys and 55 the advisors groups gone to the city and spur citywide organizations spur weve gone to our sister agencies within the city family weve gone to bcdc and met with the state lands to get their insighted into other stakeholders we should be Touching Base with our efforts on producing those summary documents and the improved presentations slides have also a reflection of the effort to boil down the issues so people can understand and so in the process of trying to hone the message further were recognizing now were still short of what we would like to achieve in terms of reaching out to other communities. I want to thank you and brea for a wonderful presentation. But i want to focus on the outreach how it so you would we are still outreaching to the same people traditionally involved in the port issues i did not even see a meeting with the Fishermans Wharf intention may be we can collaborate with the board of supervisors or the cac established throughout the city it is really, really important were able to go far and wide its a big issue and the port belongs to everyone. So we agree and i think we owe i a Public Outreach plan we have to xhurment consult would the supervisors weve thought about the idea of holding you know are working with the supervisor to identify neighborhood organizations in their district we could make 24 presentation and get feedback designing e diane has empowering the suggestion of trying to get this presentation recorded so there is audio orchard associated with it so supervisors want to distribute it to perform outreach that way weve got the organizations in the city and some of the political organizations theres a very rich group of democratic clubs around the city that certainly consider the ballot port measures and may deserve a visit from obvious as well the citywide organizations and so part of the effort is trying to hone the presentation that incapsulate the big issues the commission is asking us to address to take it on the road do you want to talk about the survey concept as well that is. Yes, were contemplating some kind of a simplified program are theres a lot of information to try to cover if youre trying to reach out to audience that are not knowledgeable about the court there is fundamental questions like would had was the port and the mission and the policy issues that were trying to contestant weve got a problem were trying to grapple with thats why we wanted to bring this presentation its an improvement of the information originally to that end weve gun control a better handle and if you have an Online Survey or other way that is simplified in content that is approachable by a wider audience were working on that as well i have roof different thoughts but number one i want to say i appreciate all the work thats gone into this and listened to the feedback and come back with a multiple angle and answered another questions since were on the topic of progress theres two things one which the other confirmations mentioned in terms of are we reaching the right audience still and i think in a number of different ways weve talked about that and with the supervisors thats about the progression right now, were trying to reach a existence objective that is what the port is to boarder outdoors audience by you have to be careful if you ask for the feedback but not a way of telling the people what is going to happen to the feedback theyre theyll be excited the first time but another plan comes out and it hadnt addressed their issue we have to be careful when we say were going out we have to explain an ongoing process my understanding i thought we were going to come up with he did feedback right now we also were going to go up u come up with a recommendation how to engage on a port wide level not necessarily dismantle the Port Organization that has been helpful were getting the beggar picture for the folks he strictly on the waterfront but looking at it from a bigger city verify and come up with a recommendation that is an ongoing structure not only foreign a landline plan every 5 years so this was one i thought was happening im a little bit confused and i thought it was at some which the were to table this input and try to process it and come up with an update we still have the usual way of reaching attest to people in between and do another update and start the process over again so at some point look we took the game plan we need to be on you have to have a game plan and start and stop somewhere not change it every week but this is our best guess i have questions but lets address this one first. We plan on come back to the commission and either the second i believe e. R. Second meeting in february or march to report back on the comments that have been received and from the staffs prospective the recommendations on the next community you know Additional Community programming were recommending for the issues that are Hidden Valley high school in the report the future Community Planning to grapple with what should happen in the south beach area front and we wont have the staff recommendations that resolve the open questions in february or march excuse me. Well be intent on having the recommendation for steps moving forward to engage the community if each of the ears to be able to start that process and then at some, you know, trying to have a timeline included westbound the reporting so you have a sense as to how we would engage the discusses and bring back whatever information for the waterfront to be considered for the areas on the port wide areas you site we believe we need to come up with another body whether it is put in place just for the purposes of giving insights and recommendations on what the public buildings should be incorporated on the port wide issues on the waterfront plan or a standing body that you know we have an interest in continuing on a opening basis frankly we havent thought that far ahead by the port wide issues have to be supported by not boarder body sense of you know assignment of address and the consideration to work with the staff so we can come up with on Sea Level Rise and transportation on open space some of the port wide issues weve expressed today what are the updates to the waterfront plan that reflect the publics experience and sense of what the waterfront should be going in the future and 0 how that sob should be reflected in the ports policy broadly speaking back to february or march. Im certainly listening to the pros and cons of you know being specific to being an Advisory Committee group to the Land Use Plan or a boarder body we use in the interim between the updates for a lot of other areas to communicate and educate and perhaps use them as an input from other groups we dont have a reputation from today weve talked about not marketing the port properly its understood this is a body it is not the only answer but another channel to leverage it so the possibility it could be used to work with the immediate transaction were here whats the update to the waterfront plan. Right. Thats number one now im the one that said one of the things ive read through the people and more to their neighborhood and not new they said dont do this and that theres a lot of you know wed love to have this and that but i think we also had that fiduciary responsibility of what we can afford and what i think we can do and one the traditions open that accomplishment side how much money has been involved by the way, ebay what has that done for the revenues and the city ports is there has to be something we cant keep sped up money to generate something to pay for the next round everybody wants more thats fine we have to indicate the pacing but people should have a bottom line where we stand today. What did we accomplishment the Balance Sheet a lot of people may not understand it but how much did the assets go up and how did the surplus increase from year to year people have to know were not where we want to be but on the positive trajectory im not sure people understand that people think we make millions of dollars but its far from the truth the public needs to understand that you can put it in the baseline but this is where it has brought us im not a financial person but people need to upstairs what weve done to improve ourselves and our ability to eight from our activities people understand we punishing push those things i saw no more public and private partnership altitude but if you understand our financials you cant ignore it a so i be people you have to give them a complete picture im saying give them a little bit of financial understanding so theres a baseline that is moving background you talk about the capital plan its future ethics but that i can add more and the other question all those neighborhood associations 0 do they see the presentation we have today weve presented to many of them or did they get another kind of interim draft im trying to understand the information this is definitely more comprehensive and gives a Bigger Picture but you know is this the first time are we the first to see it. Actually no thats been the dynamic weve been out in the public talking to a lot of people thats informed how we tried to improve the message points of the presentations id like to say the majority of the presentations have been of the realm of the content we present to you today where we find there are opportunities to make tweaks to improve our clarity thats what were trying to do you dont i cant say that a month ago the presentation is as good as it is right now when we rolled out the original presentation from august we see that people were eemgd with information thats our challenge to get attesting out to a citywide audience especially this issue your highlighting about the Financial Realities which the Port Commission has to operate trying to boil it down in simple terms that are not misleading and yet through a number of comments theres a recognize of the management and budgeting that the port does with the policies and the poetry improvements that move forward and i think youll see that effort also coming up in the capital plan coming out in the next couple of months and the budget process because at a staff level were going to try to level the message points thats a work in progress we look forward to the direction to improve our efforts. Do i think the detailed comments weve seen here as a result from hearing the presentation or reading the original document can i told you a difference because some of the comments theyre in november not current so im wondering in some cases i know people were reading their commenting on the original documents not the presentation it puts it in a different context. Theres no way of, you know, for sure the presentations when we went out to the communities it gives him a foundation of understanding on which they can choose how they can spend their time open the issues they have concerns or going into the documents to find more details. Open the secondhand whats the effect how do you consider the presentation effective in he getting the messages across so for. I believe theyve been effective more than just marking the report available it is pretty intimately on that and the presentations and the discussion that takes place in the presentations has been helpful for people to understand why they should care of about this. We want the people to take away 3 key messages to walk away with 3 things understanding in a simplified way weve communicated a lot of information no doubt the presentations have a lot of information. I believe that people at least the stakeholder weve been in contact we have a better understanding of what is at stake for the future of the waterfront most people relate to the historic piers and the Historic Resources and the buildings that are old and in the water there is a recognition about a serious response to the Sea Level Rise and so theres been a lot of movement frankly at a general movement along the waft that threatens the sea level especially the precious resources the work that the port engineering staff has done in advancing the seismic condition of the sea level they need to understand if so a little bit later in coming people understand the seismic risks so those are 3 big issues that have a fundamental effect what you want to see happen in a waterfront in the neighborhood or the other platform that has resonated with the audience. Surface messages totally agree with you do they walk away thinking the port has been merged well against the Strategic Issues and whats the overall image of the waterfront has it improved as a result of hearing thats what we need to understand. Yes. We do weve gotten a lot of positive comments and effectively about the changing face that the San Francisco waterfront and people have whether to exposure the ferry this or the open spaces we have comments about people have now choose to spend their time along the waterfront we have many voices and opinions not Health Department a uniform position. And couple of things that from the comments i wanted to 345k as well first, i was a little bit surprised by most of comments seemed to recognize this is a review of the waterfront Land Use Plan but some think that is the plan so i wanted to thank you for the opportunity for those who are watching this is a review of the existing plan and whats been accomplished under the plan given getting everyone up to speed and a process Going Forward i want to reilly repeat that im surprised by one set of comments thinking this is the end result as opposed to a starting point weve talked about a specific ear and groups we focus on the waterfront Going Forward b
