Nadine is a professional in the toxic stress among children we can learn a lot from this model about Adverse Child Experiences how trauma impacts latter in life this is an important to have early preservation to avoid down the line chovm and obesity that results from unrevolved issues that happen in Early Childhood id love to work with the Child Advocacy center and second i am impressed how we are coming together around this crisis were starting communications around the rufkz theyre not here yet but were anticipating families will be relocating to the area i want to keep the district informed of those confuses and commissioner maufas raised an important resolution that it be sent to the governor as well as our senator mark leno and Assembly Member tom and others this is not a one shot response this is going to require local control funding for the toward so in the longterm were going to need our state legislator to be involved thank you. Wellbeing a second generations immigrant i want to thank the board of education for this resolution because it really helps children in need. Im honored to be in the San FranciscoUnified School District i will authorize the Student Council to support those immigrants they also needs help when it comes to problems that come up. Thank you. Commissioner mendozamcdonnell. Great, thank you. I too want to be i want to commend all of us laughter actually, we live in this incredible city that allows us to have those kinds of conversations and when leadership from both mayor ed lee and supervisor campos rise to the occasion i mean we were actively the first city that called the feds to say whaez whats going on with the kids and what San Francisco, california do. We have this incredible meeting are a large group of folks. At city hall that included organizations like any member of the public wish to speak on any item and the School District we had sponsors that are deeply engaged in the work and had discussions around the changes that our families are going to be facing and 60 thousand young people coming out the United States and from the 60 thousands are going to come to San Francisco and what can we do to support them. Living in a city that is able to have those conversations i think the other piece that is interesting to the conversations he wanted us to about the the 90 thousand square feet facility that will help them to accommodate many of the young people coming thats an overwhelming request but heart and feelings and empathy and Everything Else that goes along with what people in San Francisco feel for the challenges that those young people are facing in their own criticize that was a really easy conversation to have so i just again am proud to be on a board that recognizes a work. I want to be clear about the way the kids are communicated not only are we in a city that embraces those challenges but were in a state it embraces those challenges. When you listen to the news or hear the report, you know, they can sound very punitive and sound as of, you know, our children are coming out our country i doing rope horrible things to us so i wanted to make sure were all mindful of the respect that our children deserve that come into San Francisco and the United States. And that we are very mindful in the way in which we speak about it as well not only to our friends and families but to our students and hope we have the opportunity to educate our students on those that are going to be joining us here 90 in San Francisco and once again colleagues im proud of our work and able to bring this forward and speak on behalf of the children that are going to be joining us in amps commissioner haney. I want to say thank you to my colleagues, were Getting Started off with important work were going to be ahead of the curve with the doors open to School Next Week so much thought has been given by our staff to kevin and christina and a couple weeks ago christina and principles met and started to plan i know that laugh a lot of this a e medication we think about our responsibility to ever young person so thanks to the superintendant. I didnt know that yesterday was the approval for a new population to the extent we can streamline that to the greatest degree has possible i was talking to the folks in the community again and again who is going to be responsible our resources are going to be put on the table so, you know, to hear the commitment is really xhovnt i think for the work that needs to be done. Having ucsf and other folks from our staff and Mission High School this is obviously everyone who are part of this our caveat and others who are central to this effort and that case it responsibly serious in terms of the way we put the kwaelth into action those kids have a set of needs that are perhaps a high of level to my kids we deal with with what theyve been throw in their lives so for us to make the statement that maybe differs from what people are saying across the country not only boo do we welcome those children but take the responsibility seriously and step forward and do as much as we can. Im honored to have all the support we have in the district i also everyone in the community that is here and spoke on this and working on this. I think that this is very much a defining moment for our city and all of the organizations recommended here tonight this work of the city supervisor campos office and everyone that came together and organized and fought for this all things in the resolution have come from the community that theyve prioritized its been a collective effort and people have organized in a way thats the best of what the School District is i hope we continue to horn that in the coming weeks i know theres a lot were going to learn an effort that will grow and reflect more but you know the commits made of the challenges in Mission High School keeping in mind what its like in the classroom and how we support our educators and the need they have to do the work directly so thank you superintendant and everyone that came out tonight we look forward to taking on the challenges thank you superintendant i appreciate that i wanted to venture acknowledge edith and allen in a your examples of how this clapping you are the living example of when we come together in the right way. Was it, be and you go out into the world and continue to do great things. I thought about it and reflected on it and the comments about the youngest people that come to us where you were once a part of that group that came to us and look at it you and its amazing so i wanted to thank you for coming forward also to speak together and to speak to the issue. I appreciate that. Superintendant. Great so thank you, commissioner and president fewer. I want to thank the entire board were a nation of immigrants its often informational we we talk about this. I want to make the commitment to the board as we move quickly with this position well move heaven and earth to make sure our children have a great experience and our caveat and staff will help the students we dont want to come back and ask for permission but we will move quickly. Id like to be bold enough to ask if our Teachers Union will mind forwarding this to their National Advocates and to the innovate school board of education and send in to the council of the Great Mission schools and to the white house. This is a moment when San Francisco should be the beacon how what we welcome children to this country we should be proud and bold with our permission were going to send this message loud and proud because i think this is something we should be very, very proud about im exceeding proud of the city and county of San Francisco i want to mention that this really brings to light we have a lot of a lot of children of the students i hope the feelings in this room s are general rays to the families and students to the i did not know speaker said they leave everything behind so not only the students but the families that come out u come without deposition that are part of the fabric of San Francisco. I think were ready for a vote commissioner haney. Commissioner maufas pr commissioner mendozamcdonnell. Please remain standing commissioner weithorn.
