It is an absolutely devastating and standing situation. People are dealing with a law. It includes physical damage, emotional damage, and psychological damage, as well. Hundreds of thousands have been sleeping out in the open. We have been hearing from our colleagues and partners, people are scared to go back inside. Mediterranean needs at the moment are huge. Lets say the Rescue Operations, which we just heard about, they are hampered by damaged roads and bridges. As we know, the high Atlas Mountains are not an easy access, even on the best of days. The mountains, some of the towns in these Mountain Areas which are very heavily impacted are very difficult to access. As the search and Rescue Operations are proceeding, the humanitarian action in morocco is really well coordinated by local authorities and various agencies coordinated to respond to the Emergency Needs of people especially vulnerable groups such as women and girls. You have helped with Earthquake Response in places such as india, indonesia, as well. These are, in certain instances, more rural. When you think about the epicenter of this quake, as you just mentioned, some of which, areas where they are harder to access. What is the plan to reach the people in need their . Those who may need help . Absolutely. First and foremost, for the buildings near the epicenter, they were not built. They were not built to withstand shaking of this level. Many of the roads are filled with boulders, and rubble, this makes it more difficult. Right now we essentially need all hands on deck so we can support care morocco and so many other ngos with medical facilities. We have to work parallel with certain Rescue Operations and helping people with immediate needs which include hot meals, safe drinking water, emergency shelter. Medical needs, hygiene capacity. Especially helping men and girls. And lets say this is the immediate thing. The other thing i have learned from our engagement with various and grace across others in turkey and other parts in the world there is a lot of attention in holiday when the headlines failed a needs of the people are not being served fully. We need to continue supporting not only the immediate but also the recovery helping people to rebuild their lives. Many have lost everything. A former trump chief of staff, mark meadows, filing a notice to appeal a judges decision but denied a request to move to federal court. That could, potentially, cast doubt on for hesitant on trumps chances of wanting to do the same. The decision is coming amidst a release of reports by the initial Special Grand Jury in Fulton County. It revealed, you can see the list, theyre 21 edition of people reprimanded for trying to but not ultimately indicted. That list includes current South Carolina senator, lindsey graham. Ford or florida senator Kelly Loeffler and david perdue, as well. Responding to this release just yesterday. I called around different states, including georgia, as a sitting United States senator, chairman of the judiciary committee. I eventually certify the election in all states, including georgia. I did not find any evidence of mass voter fraud. I did have concerns about the mailin ballot system. We cannot criminalize senators doing their job when they have a constitutional Work Ornament to fulfill. We are opening up pandoras box here. Kelly loeffler and david perdue have also denied wrongdoing. We want to bring in the current host of the Talking Feds Podcast to talk about this. We want to ask you a few things, harry. First and foremost, what does this indicate to you . Right . We know mark meadows it will appeal the judges decision to move the case to federal court. What does it say to you about the trajectory here . The initial decision from the judge to deny meadows requests a to move the thing federal . Its mainly says to me is the other five people who are planning to do it, three georgia electors, jeff clark, and trump, almost certainly have very little chance of exceeding, because the reasoning that the judge used, if you apply it even superficially to the Conduct Charge against those other five in the indictment. They are, it really doesnt fly at all. Its an interesting situation, however, because back in Fulton County, dodge mcafee said maybe he needs to let the whole removal process play out, including appeals. He has a right to an appeal. The other five will as well, to avoid the uncommonly situation if the 11th circuit i this, and they are now being tried. So, the second thing its adjusts to me is we may now be having three groups. The first to, first speedy trial, everyone else, and the six people who have had been fighting, who will be fighting for removal. I think they wont make it. And when you talk about three, four, iterations of a fourmonth trial, it starts to get pretty head spinning. Yeah. That is exactly what i was thinking, how much of a headache this is, really, to manage for the Fulton County the asa are taking a look at this thing, the scope of it all, really. Lets talk about this list of 21. Because there is a real difference between having evidence to say okay, theres enough evidence to indict these folks. And we note from this ninepage report, this grand jury heard from 75 separate witnesses. Yet. The other grand jury, that ended up indicting former president and all of his codefendants, i believe, only heard from nine witnesses, right . Remember the 150 plus witnesses mentioned by this tape during chesebros hearing just a couple of days ago. When you think about that, what goes to the decisionmaking to say okay, there is enough evidence to indict. But do we move forward with the charges . And then, why not, with these 21 . Its a great question. You put your finger on exactly, yasmin. Typically, a typical process, as a prosecutor, you have determined already, you can prove this beyond a reasonable doubt. At which point you ask a grand jury to give alimited endorsement of saying there is probable cause. This was the opposite, because of the Special Grand Jury. First, they say there is probable cause. Now, we are all in here, where fani willis has to decide, fine, but is there enough to bring the case . And white wouldnt you, for any of 26 reasons that would have played out in a different process, and he wouldnt even have asked a grand jury. Theres a certain kind of evidence problems. Maybe they have made a good presentation and you believe. It or, you know what . Its just too much. Im fighting off this huge thing here. So i really need a sitting u. S. Senator as well . So, there is very merry reasons and here, and that normally, what happened has been come to bear before. There are pictures and dishes falling off of the walls, in peoples homes, as they are realizing they are experiencing this earthquake. But there is even more devastation in the Atlas Mountains. That is just outside of marrakech, and rescue teams are working to get there and to continue helping folks there, but there was one witness there that described to the ap that this idea that within seconds, it looked like doomsday. That everything around them looked like it was destroyed. And were talking about small villages there with buildings that are made out of adobe, non reinforced concrete. They are not built to withstand this type of force. So, there is real concern about the people there. Another witnesses saying that he lost five friends, and he said all we can do is pray. When you think about the personal impact on that witness, and we talk about a death toll of more than 1000 people, some 1200 people injured, more than half of them critically injured, there is very real concern that this death toll could continue to rise, as you mentioned, rescue teams are on the ground there, working their way into some of those more remote villages. And were also hearing from other countries, including here in the u. S. , President Biden releasing a statement saying quote, i am deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in morocco. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this terrible hardship. He goes on to say that he is in touch with moroccan officials, working to ensure that americans there are safe, and pledging his support for the moroccan people. Americans have lots going on. Some of these cases, aside from the florida documents case, are hard to explain. So, im assuming that we, the media, are going to do the job of explaining why these cases are bad for someone running for president of the United States to have been involved, in that risks complacency. That americans are going to understand on their own you, no, not that theyre incapable of understanding, but that they just will pick it all up from the media on their own. Now, they do see a point where next spring, next summer, assuming trump is the nominee, they are going to hit hard on this idea that trump means chaos. You know, that whatever verdicts by that point, whatever the indictments by that point, trump is chaos. Bidens calm and normalcy. And why it right maybe joe biden really does know what hes doing is he has been proven correct electorally, twice now. He won in 2020, the democrats did extraordinarily better in the midterms and the conventional wisdom would have it. So, you know, its not just biden. Its macdonnell, and its, other top advisers who believe that there is plenty of time to talk about trumps legal troubles and the greater message about chaos versus stability. And what about folks like sherrie browne, jon tester as well . They are obviously in states that were won by trump. How do they play this as they get closer and closer to an election . Again, they like, biden, police the most powerful message is talking about what they as legislators, or the president , as the executive, has delivered. Or is he smart not to . Then, when the time comes and we dont know how this is going to play out, but when the time comes, does he kind of turn the conversation to look, this is a guy who brings chaos, right . As chris kind of laid out for us. Yeah, i mean, look. I think the president and his team are right in waiting on this. Theres going to be plenty of time for that. We have to see how these ripen, which is really early to tell right now. And i think one of the things that the president has done, really effectively, is to cast the former president as a historic. I it goes against history of democratic transitions. In power. He goes against democratic, little d democratic norms. And i think the president will be able to take the argument, the Closing Argument that he made in 2020 around democracy, and bring that fully to bear against the former president. As he goes against him in the later in the election cycle. But i think it is really early for that kind of head to head to take place right now, given that these cases have really not ripens quite yet. I want to talk about the president and some of his approval numbers are seeing right now. But journal for the 42, new cnn poll conducted by srs 39 . Do you think this is because of the economy right now . He is not polling well in the economy, despite the fact he is on the road talking about bidenomics. Drop numbers are faring pretty well. It looks as if he may be avoiding a recession. With all that considered, though, he is Polling Numbers are not necessarily, im sure, comforting for the administration going into election year. I think that the president and the administration are rights to be troubled by these numbers, which are persistently bad for the president. And it really goes against the way people are feeling in their personal economy versus the way the economic numbers are really doing. You have low unemployment that continues, how historic low unemployment. You have record gdp growth. You have wage growth. And these things dont seem to be reflected in the way that people feel. So, i think the president and the administration have to be very doggedly about talking about what he has done for the economy and lowering drug prices, for example, which really hits people personally. And he has just got to be better and be on the road talking about these things of the american people, the American Public fully gets it. Congresswoman, i want to shift gears while i have you. I want to play this south of florida Governor Ron Desantis, also running for president of the United States. He was confronted and blamed for the recent racist Mass Shooting in jacksonville. Killing three black people. I want to play for you his reaction, and then well talk. I excuse me. Im not going to let you accuse me of committing criminal activity. Im not going to take that you dont get to come here and blame me for some mad man. That is not appropriate in time not going to accept it you have allowed people to hunt people like me in broad daylight. That is nonsense that is such nonsense all know as well, that individuals escorted out of the room. What is your reaction to watching that . Well, ron desantis is thin skinned and prickly when it comes to responding to voters. And what that man was asking was whether he bore any responsibility for creating an environment in which that can happen. He wasnt accusing him of criminal activity. So, i think ron desantis is created an environment in florida and around the country where you know, hes put race on the line over and over and over again. It is not surprising that Something Like that would happen. At least, desantis could acknowledge the legitimate question from a voter instead of just being as prickly as he is.
