26,000 acres, just 6 contained. The north complex fire also in the an gechlt les, burning for a week now, covering a quarter million acres is 23 contained. Oregon fires, a million acres burned so far. Washington state Officials Say 10,000 acres were burned just this week, 80 of the small town of maltan was destroyed. We talk about this as a wildfire. We have to start thinking theyre more climate fires. Theyre climate fires because thats what creates the conditions that makes them so explosive. Theres a sustainable problem and that is Climate Change. Its a climate emergency. This is what everyone predicted. This is what all the experts have been saying for decades. And right now these recordsetting fires are burning millions of acres, causing poor air quality up and down the west coast, and at least 20 people have died. Lets go to my colleague, joining me from berry creek. I know youre very close to the northern complex fire. That now one of the deadliest fires in all of california state history. Talk about the situation and what its like at this hour. Reporter alex, let me show you sort of a microcosm of the devastation. This is or was berry creek elementary school, which at one point taught some 70 students k through 8. It was pretty much gone in an instant, as was much of the town of berry creek in this northern complex fire. They got what passes for good news around here. They thought there were ten deaths as a result of this fire. One of the deaths, it turns out what they thought were human remains are not. Theres nine deaths but it still put this is northern complex fire within the top 15 of deadliest fires in california. Governor gavin newsom says if youre looking at this from other parts of the country and thinking how sad for california, the west coast, he says think again. This is Climate Change. This is america fast forward. The hots are getting a lot higher, the dries are getting a lot drier, the wets are getting a lot wetter, these atmospheric rivers. Historic droughts, historic heat and then historic lightning strikes, this is what you get. More than 3 million acres have burned in california, making this the worst fire season in state history. And sort of chronologically or by the calendar fire season has only just begun here, alex. Governor gavin newsom telling it like it exactly is. Thank you for that, scott. Appreciate that. More breaking news. This time, from the campaign trail. New poll from the New York Times shows biden leading the president by at least three points across four, in fact, battleground states, minnesota, h nevada, New Hampshire as well. Both campaigns are preparing for events today. The latest from the Trump Campaign, deepa chivram with the Biden Campaign. Well start with you, josh, whats on the table for trump today . Reporter as he heads to nevada today, these were not the cards he wanted to play. Two planned massive rallies atlas vegas and reno canceled after the event sites refused to have the rallies there because they pointed out it violated the nevada policy on limiting gatherings of 50 people or more. The Trump Campaign regrouped and came up with a different plan. Instead the president will be heading about 45 miles south of reno to a town called minden. He will do an event there before moving on to las vegas for a pair of events. Big emphasis on hispanic voters. All of this coming as this new New York Times cnn poll particularly in nevada showing a close race there with joe biden up only four points on donald trump, in a state that a republican hasnt won in a president ial race since about 2004, but nevada, other states that were polled, such as New Hampshire, also showing a very close race. And these are states, alex, where the Trump Campaign has really been competing heavily because they are trying to expand the map. The Trump Campaign knows that the president is likely to lose at least some of the states he won four years ago, states like pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin. And if theyre going to hold on to the majority and more than 270 of the electoral college, hes going to need to flip some states that he didnt win the last time. The Trump Campaign sees states as nevada as their likeliest possibilities to do that. And thats why the president putting face time in there today and tomorrow. Josh, thank you for that. Well talk about joe biden, everyone, who is not on the inperson campaign today, but his running mate, kamala harris, will do a Virtual Event in arizona this afternoon. These latest poll numbers are coming as some welcomed news potentially to the biden harris camp. Deepa chivram, welcome to you. Has there been any reaction to these polls . Reporter hey there, alex. Weve not heard from the campaign and we dont expect to see joe biden today. It is decent news to hear when youre pulling ahead in some of these battleground states like wisconsin, nevada. As josh said, the president there on the ground in las vegas and other parts of the state today. The Biden Campaign did, however, release a statement this morning, reacting to the president s events. He said President Trump cant hide from the truth months after admit i admitting to misleading the American Public about the pandemic. He still has no plan to contain covid19, a virus that has killed more than 1400 nevadans. Nevadans dont need more bluster from the president. Nevada families need solutions. The idea that joe biden is taking leadership on things when it comes to the pandemic, things like the protests we saw over the summer, around race and police brutality, those are all things that came up in this poll that were talking about, where voters need to think that joe biden takes more leadership on these issues and they favor joe biden on these issues compared to donald trump. It is something we can expect joe biden to lean in on in these weeks tha in the next eight weeks, this idea that he can be a leader when it comes to things like protest and, of course, this pandemic, this Global Health crisis we are going through. A part of the poll showed that voters want to hear some voters who are undecided want to hear joe biden denounce some of the violence that came along with these protests. Of course, they were overwhelmingly peaceful. We didnt see a lot of violence overall, but there are voters, alex, who have said they would be convinced to vote for biden if they saw him denounce that violence more and would convince them to vote for the democratic ticket. Alex . Deepa shivaram, thank you for that. Author of the new book donald trump versus the United States and kimberly. Ladies first, what are your takeaways from this new polling . Do you find them to be significant . Because early voting is beginning. It may be reflecting some of the votes that will be put in mail soon. Sure, yes. Early voting is absolutely a big factor in 2020. Thats one of the big differences from 2016. The fact that joe biden is ahead in these states is good news for the campaign. Keep in mind, there are places where ballots havent been mailed yet. Some people have been casting doubt about whether or not mailin voting is secure or something that they can rely upon, based in part on the president claiming falsely that mailin votes are somehow fraudulent. So, you cant put too much on that. You cant put too much on any one poll either. Over time, since the convention and through and after the conventions, joe biden has been able to keep a momentum of having a lead in many of these crucial swing states. Single digit, sometimes within the margin of error. So its worth keeping that in mind. So far, there is that momentum on joe bidens side. Yeah, listen, i dont think anyone thinks it wont be a tight race, at least for some time to come. What about behind the scenes at the white house . Is there any worry over this latest polling . Kimberly makes a good point. Its often within the margin of error, even singledigit discrepancies here. Yes, biden has been leading in battleground states but the president s law and order messaging, is that or is it not resonating . I think that the president has sort of done everything he can to continue to appeal to his base, and certainly that messaging on law and order is something that plays directly to them. Now the question is, is there enough time between now and the election for the president to make up that ground . And if the president is going to make up ground, will he do it by simply trying to grow that base, by continuing to move to the right and having farright rhetoric, or will he do anything to tack to the center to appeal to people . The thing about the president s time in office is that he has not taken a lot of moves to move to the center. He has not done a lot of things to appeal to that middleoftheroad voter. Thats something that we have to really watch here as we come into the election. Will the president try and do something that does more than just try and feed his base . You can see here the Administration Building a narrative that the president has played an integral role in middle east peace with these recent announcements between israel and these arab countries. Will that be something that the president tries to lean into and rely more on, or will he simply stay with the same rhetoric he has had the last four years . Well have to watch and see what develops there. Kimberly, this all comes after trump has been on the defense about his coronavirus response, those excerpts with bob woodward in the forthcoming book rage. The president says he downplayed the virus to not key ate panic. Take a listen to what else he has been saying the past couple of months. Joe biden, the radical socialist democrats would immediately collapse the economy. If they got in, they would collapse it. You would have a crash the likes of which you have never seen before. Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, to face our most sacred memorials and unleash a wave of Violent Crime in our cities. If i lose an election over that, you know what . This country is in big trouble. Big trouble. They want to disarm lawabiding citizens while freeing vicious ms13 gang members. So, not causing a panic does not seem like it is the bedrock of this president s playbook when it comes to getting reelected. Do you suspect that people will buy that excuse, that he was trying to downplay the virus because he did not want to cause panic, kimberly . I think the people who believe that excuse are the people who tend to support the president anyway. I mean, we have seen not just in his rhetoric what he claims will happen if joe biden wins the election. Weve seen in his rhetoric thats based in fear and things that are happening in real time when he talked about caravans coming from south of the u. S. Border, when he talked about muslims who hate us, who need to be banned from the country, when he talks about what its like to live in cities. Weve seen him use very inflammatory language that is based on fear, that is based on grievance. And so the idea that he was trying to be the calmer in chief just factually is inaccurate. What happened is what he told bob woodward privately, was completely different from what he told the American People publicly about the virus, downplaying it, saying things that were just false about how the virus spreads and how serious it was. You have to remember that the virus is the number one issue on the minds of americans. Its not the economy, except as it relates to the pandemic. Thats the number one issue. So, if the president doesnt put forward a plan that will convince people that he can get ahead of it, just as michael was talking about, he can expand his base. He will keep his base, more than like likely, but he cant expand it in a way to try to, if these polls are to be believed, catch up to joe biden. Look, theres a reason theres a very basic phrase, which is if you dont have your health, you dont have anything. Right . Going forward on that, health has to be tanamount to the success of this country. Donald trump versus the United States, and it includes a lot of new reporting from the white house prepandemic. Does what you are reporting enforce any of what weve heard this week from bob woodward or even Michael Cohen . By his unusual use of power, forcing the people around him to make choices. Will they do what he wants them to do . Will the people go along with his ideas and do things that they think may be illegal, unethical or bad for the country . That is really the story of the trump presidency. Its a story of what does it mean to have donald trump as president and if youre around him, how do you react and deal with that . And whether it was jim comey in the beginning of the administration or the white house counsel, don mcghan later on, people are constantly asking how do you when you dont necessarily trust what theyre doing, and how do you decide whether to stay and the do the things you think are right and potentially stop the president or quit . How do you manage that . As donald trump is sort of a human mri machine, to see into the souls of those around him. Yeah. Michael, among the revelations in your new book, this one i want to discuss, when you describe trumps unexpected november 2019 visit to Walter Reed National military medical center. You report the white house wanted mike pence on standby to take over the powers of the presidency temporarily if trump had to undergo a procedure that would require him to be anestetized. We often have a short Attention Span because one bombshell reporting story after the next but this one seemed significant. The president has been pushing back on this, but what more do you know about it . Well, look, the president in the middle of impeachment went to the hospital in the middle of a weekend day for what he said was to get started on a checkup. And it was very curious at the time, and it didnt make sense. And in reporting for the book i found out that at the time they basically said to the Vice President , stay loose. Be ready. We may need to put the president under. Now that does not sound like the kind of things that would go on at a regular, traditional checkup of sorts. So this visit, which was already didnt make sense, there was greater questions around it to the fact that the white house thought that the Vice President may need to take over the powers of the presidency, because the president was going to be under anesthesia. And it just speaks to the president s relationship here with the truth, and certainly around his health, that i dont think we have a full accounting of this. The president reacted very angrily to this disclosure, saying i had reported in the book that he had a stroke and stuff like that, stuff thats not in the book. He made it out to be something that its not, when he easily could have ignored it and, if it went away, you know, my guess is that it would have probably received less attention. Sounds like you did hit a nerve, thats for sure, michael schmidt. Kimberly atkins, good to see you. Thank you both. Edward snowden is talking about foreign interference. The answer, the solution to disinformation is not to freak out that it exists, but to get your news from a reliable source and think critically about everything that you hear. Foreign facebook posts, they cannot destroy our elections. Only we can. By playing into it. Edward snowden reacting overnight to russia medd lichlt ng in u. S. Elections. Speaking exclusively to my colleague, brian williams, from his home in russia, where he remains exiled after leaking classified information. Elizabeth served in the Trump Administration and is now part of the repair group, and they are working to get joe biden elected in november. Reminding you that elizabeth is a republican. Elizabeth, lets talk about the u. S. Government. Can the u. S. Government do more about russian meddling or do you agree with Edward Snowden that its up to each and every individual to find a credible news source for information . He doesnt seem to be that concerned, or is he just understanding the fact that he is in moscow and he has to speak in a guarded tone . Yeah, its interesting. I agree with what he said, which is rare, because i do consider him a traitor, but you know what strikes me is that thats exactly the message that we were hoping President Trump would carry to the American People, and that other top leaders in our government could say that very loudly, very clearly to the american citizenry, but we havent been able to get a president to do that. So i have colleagues that are trying to communicate to the American Public that exact message, to educate yourself, to check where youre getting your news sources from, and theyre doing a remarkable job. And i feel very assured that we are more prepared this election cycle than we have been the last two election cycles. But theres nothing that tops having the bully pulpit itself come out and explain to the American Public, this is what disinformation is. This is how you might see it manifest in your own life, and here is how to protect yourself so that you make sure when youre making decisions, whether its a vote or some other decision in your life, youre basing it on actual truth and not this disinformation. Sadly, we dont have a president that does that anymore. Im presuming since you called Edward Snowden a traitor youre not in agreement with the president who recently said hes going to look into whether or not he should be pardoned. I think thats atrocious. Look, its not that maybe some small good has come out of snowdens disclosures. Im open to learning about where the u. S. Has made mistakes, but there are correct ways to do that and incorrect ways. The way that he did it was reckless and likely caused people to lose their lives all across the world. So thats trea krchltreacherous. Thats what it means to be a traitor. I cant get on board with any kind of pardon. Dhs official claimed he was ordered to stop providing intelligence on russian meddling because in part it made the president look bad. Does anything, elizabeth, about your experience in dhs to believe this whistleblower . I do think that that may have merit. I dont have firsthand knowledge, but it is consistent with what weve seen, especially over the last year. More let me draw a contrast. Three years ago, the way that we saw this play out was usually just the president would get mad. He would get mad at sub who was saying something public and he happened to see it and they were talking about russia. They were talking about the 2016 campaign. It just made him mad. You had enough people at the top that could take the heat and then turn around and tell their staff, do the right thing anyway. Lets figure out how to protect our country. Those people are gone now. There are no guardrails. There is nobody to push back on the president. So when the president gets mad, people are getting hurt, people are getting fired. And the people that are left are either scared of getting fired or actually really believe in what the president is saying. And so it is entirely plausible that this intelligence product or these intelligence products that mr. Murphy was referencing were tinkered with, which is a huge red line. We dont do that in our government. Intelligence Community Tells us what the threat is and then policy people, political people debate what to do about it. But you dont have the policy people telling the intelligence people, you need to change the characterization of the threat. We just dont do that in our country. In terms of your description of the president getting mad when he would see somebody talking or hear someone talking poorly about russia, the president s attitude came up in Bob Woodwards new book. Here is an excerpt from the times. Former director of National Intelligence believed russia had, quote, something on mr. Trump. That person being dan coats is the person who said that. You served at a very high level at the dhs. What is your interpretation of this . I was relieved to hear him say that in private and maybe among a few friends after work, kind of shared the same thoughts. Something is just off about this, the way he interacts with putin versus some of the other dictators that he cozies up to, like erdogan or kim jongun is different. It feels the power dynamic feels very different, when you watch them on tv or when you see the president react to any sort of communication that, hey, russia is doing something bad. The classic example from the summer is that we apparently had intelligence that russia was paying the taliban to go after our own men and women, u. S. Citizens, and he hasnt come out or said anything or implied that theyre taking action to protect our u. S. Citizens, our military men and women that keep us safe. Its just unconscionable. It really makes you think something is off here. So i tend to agree with coats. Theres not evidence. We dont know yet, but sometimes when theres smoke, there is fire. And this man has a pattern and practice of caring more about himself, his own business interests than he does about his country. Lastly, here say real stunner, a snippet from the woodward book published in the washington post. I have built a nuclear system, a nuclear, weapons system that nobody has ever had in this country before. We have stuff that you havent even seen or heard about. We have stuff that putin and xi have never heard about before. Theres nobody. What we have is incredible. Now im just curious, your reaction to that, and couple with that woodward, his sources were pretty surprised that the president disclosed this. Is this something he should be discussing . Absolutely not. I dont have firsthand knowledge of what hes referencing but its so maddening. This happened so many times when he would have a foreign leader in and Start Talking to them about classified information. Youre like, thats not how this works. Youre not supposed to disclose the things that people put their lives at risk to obtain that intelligen intelligence. The weapons system, if its true, is being designed to protect us and protect our military men and women, and to just kind of speak about it so nonchalantly with a reporter. Clearly hes bragging, right, stroking his own ego with these comments. Its so reckless. This is why i had to i decided to speak out. I could have just gone to the voting booth and voted for biden, but i feel like the American People need to hear it from those of us who saw it inside. This man is reckless. He does not know how to do the job. And, at times, he deliberately chooses to do things for his own benefit, not the countrys benefit. We cannot allow four more years of this. Elizabeth neuman, appreciate your candor. Look forward to seeing you ag n again. Thank you so much. Thank you. Postmaster general louis dejoy under investigation again after he was accused of reimbursing employees who made Campaign Contributions to his preferred gop politicians, a move that is illegal under federal election law. Joining me now, on the House Oversight committee, which is taking the lead into this inquiry. As we know, democrats are calling for dejoys immediate suspension, in fact, as postmaster general. Give me a sense of how serious these allegations are. Alex, theyre very serious. There are many people who are sitting in jail for what dejoy did. He basically allegedly has reimbursed people to make contributions to political campaigns. There are a lot of people who have had to get lawyers and have been prosecuted. Its unconscionable that someone like him is still oversooeing the postal aservice two months before a critical election. Your colleague, congressman Carol Maloney says these allegations mean he may have, in fact, lied to the Oversight Committee last month. What was he asked about then and is it possible that he perjured himself . Will your committee hear more from him . It is. I remember him being asked specifically, defer reimburse anyone for making a contribution, and he said no. In fact, he was outraged that congressman krishnamurthi was even bringing that up. He has a more fundamental problem of the anyone who is close to politics knows that the cardinal sin is you cannot reimburse someone for making a political contribution. There are plenty of people who are sitting in jail for that. So, regardless of whether he was overseeing the post office or whether he was in any part of government, he should not be there, given the seriousness of these charges. So, if it is proven, if these allegations are proven to be true, might he be facing jail time . Yes. There are a lot of other people who have faced jail time for exactly this crime. You cannot say that have someone contribute to a candidate and then reimburse them for that. U. S. Attorneys have looked into this for many people and people have been prosecuted. De souza spent jail time exactly for this and not nearly to the level of allegations against dejoy. In terms of reactions, mark meadows has called this move politically motivated. Whats your response to that . I dont understand whats politically motivated. There are serious allegations. He has not given a transparent answer to the house committee, and this is wholly apart from all the other actions he has taken in terms of the destruction of federal property and possibly interfering with the election, interfering with veterans getting their medicine. I think for the sake of the country, for the trust in the system, we can at least agree that he should not be overseeing the Postal Service during these two months. Hes taking a big risk. If we do have a new administration, i dont think theyre going to protect him in terms of an investigation. In fact, the Oversight Committee, as you well know, that has subpoenaed dejoy for documents related to his communications with the Trump Campaign, i think he has until tuesday to comply with that. Are you hoping to actually get them . And what do you expect to find in them . Well, we always hope to get the documents and to shed light on what he disclosed to the Trump Campaign. We need to understand further whether he did reimburse any of these donors, but his testimony was stonewalling to our committee and the administration hasnt been cooperative. I think theyre hoping to run out the clock before the election. Let me ask you about the postal system. All the concern about mailin ballots and to the extent that you might have any concerns about the ability of the Postal Service to actually properly process these things in a timely manner. How long might we have to wait until we actually know who is the president of the United States . Im very concerned because dejoy has taken out sorting machines, has taken out mailboxes. I dont understand why he cant just put them back in, at least until the election. The second thing im concerned about is the state laws. States need to start counting these ballots before election day. I dont know understand why you cant have states like pennsylvania amend their law to say these ballots need to be start being counted before election day so were not waiting weeks afterwards. There has some grace period. If you postmark your paulot before election day and it gets there later, it should be counted. To make sure people arent being disenfranchised. Let me ask you about the california fires. Your district there is in the San Francisco bay area. To what extent have any of your constituents and your property there in your jurisdiction been affected . Whats the update on things . Alex, thank you for asking. Its been a tough time. Its been 105 degrees, and you wake up breathing in smoke. Fortunately, there havent been any casualties or serious injuries in our district. I am very proud of a lot of our firefighters who have been fighting this. It shows two things. One, Climate Change is real. This is one of the hottest seasons and dry weather, which is causing this and, two, we need to have better described burns in forest management. The native americans used to understand how to deal with the ecosystem and have forest fires. We havent learned from them and we need to do a better job managing it. Congressman, you are speaking to a california girl and its really, really hard to see my state going up in flames from far away here in new york. Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe. Stateside in iowa, Health Experts are concerned the state could become a hot spot as cases are rising. There are more than 72,000 cases confirmed statewide. Almost 3,000 of those added just this last week. The States College towns, like others around this country, are struggling to maintain the spread of the virus as students are returning to campus. Lets go to my colleague, mara barrett, outside of Iowa University in ames. With a good day to you, mara. The first Football Game of the season kicked off 45 minutes ago or so. How important there is game day today . Reporter as someone who lived here last fall in iowa and attended a tailgate at iowa state, this looks very different to what a typical day celebrating the football Season Opener looks like. Normally this parking lot behind me would be filled with tents and tailgaters. The stadium behind me can seat up to 60,000 people. Today theres maybe only a couple of hundred of the players special guests, each allowed to invite four people. As early as last week, the university was anticipating having about 25,000 people attend the game in person, but they had to walk that back after facing criticism, because ames was one of the biggest hot spots in the country as students came back to campus. So, they had to scale that plan back as theyre considering maybe moving Classes Online fully. But the University Says right now theyre committed to keeping classes in person. I spoke to some students and professors here. One professor telling me he was incredibly anxious about coming back to class. And i asked him if he was surprised about the spike that is happening here and also around the country. Take a listen to what he told me. When youre effectively doubling the size of a Community Just by having students come back to class it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that there are going to be spikes. I think of the ten, like the top ten, eight of them were all college towns, you know. So it wasnt surprising that it happened. But when you see it broken down like that, it is kind of like a slap in the face. It is kind of like, oh, i knew it was going to be something. I didnt know it was going to be quite that bad. So one point that professor benkeman made, he teaches classes of about 40 people in size and he said 50 of his class has chosen to tune in online rather than go in person, even though thats how hes teaching classes right now. Thats because either students are quarantining or fear theyve been exposed and are self isolating as a caution. When youve got 50 of each class with that precaution, he says it makes him feel better because the class is spaced out but it is concerning that a bulk of the student population has this concern and going to class every day. Health officials are really adamant that students, if they do pick up covid on campus or are concerned about it that they should be quarantining on campus and schools should not be sending them home, because that would only further the spread of the virus. We are 52 days away from the election and President Trumps former attorney Michael Cohen giving a new warning this week of what may happen if donald trump wins a second term, saying it may not be his last. He wants to be an autocrat. He wants to be the president of this country for life. He wants to be just like putin, just like kim jongun, just like bin salman. Hes not joking. Understand, donald trump doesnt have a sense of humor. Joining me now is anthony scaramucci, former White House Communications director under this president. Anthony, its good to have you back on this show. Im curious to your reaction from that statement from Michael Cohen and even beyond that. Is donald trump enjoying being president . Does he want to stay in power . Would he break precedent and create a constitutional crisis to do so . I think he enjoys some of the aspects of being president. I dont think he loves the way the media treats him, things like that, or the grueling process of governing. Sitting in that seat of power, i think he enjoys that. I think michael is right, he would stay in that seat of power, and if he could figure out a way to tear up the constitution, he would obviously do that. People close to him having good conscience are speaking out against him and trying to warn the American People about what hes like. In addition to michael last week, take a look at the bob woodward tapes. Thats like a warning sign if theres ever a warning sign, right . I said last night the Surgeon Generals warning label for the country of what the president is going to be like in four more years. Ill ask you about woodwards book in a second. Before we move on from cohens book disloyal, what he said in interviews, is there anything that surprised you . You know him after all. Have you talked to michael since the books release or do you no longer talk to him . Yeah. No, im close to michael. I visited him twice in prison. I just did his second podcast. His first podcast was with rosie odonnell, frankly. Im the silver medalist there. Im very close to michael, read through the book. Everything michael is saying in the book is true. What some people are having problem with michaels book is he went to jail, therefore the white house is trying to disgrace him. Whats happening with michael, he has been deprogrammed from the cult and trying to rescue the rest of the American People. 63 Million People voted for donald trump in 2016. Theres something obviously wrong. An objective person can look at it. He has failed on the economy. He has failed on the health care crisis. He has made the country weaker, sicker and poorer. And we have to remove him. We have to switch jockeys before its too late. So if you read through michaels book, you see a very sad personality, a sick personality, frankly, and were trying to get the message out as clearly as we can and as objectively as we can, alex. I dont want to demonize President Trump. I look at the facts, lay them out for the American People and explain why he is a systemic danger to the institution of our democracy. Pretty extraordinary. So, lets move on to Bob Woodwards book rage, which is out this coming tuesday. It does appear to be putting the president and the white house on the defense, particularly trumps response to the coronavirus, saying he did not want to spark panic so thats why he publicly downplayed the vie are you. Lets listen to what the president privately told woodward back in february and march versus what he was saying publicly at the time. Well put it all together. Take a listen. Its also more deadly than your, you know, even your strenuous flus. This is a flu. This is like a flu. This is more deadly. This is five per you know, this is 5 versus 1 and less than 1 . Sometimes they just get the sniffles. This is deadly stuff. This is their new hoax. You just breathe the air. Thats how its passed. And so thats a very tricky one. S they a very delicate one. Its going to disappear one day. Its like a miracle, it will disappear. Now its turning out its not just old people, bob. Just today and yesterday, some starting facts came out. Young people are almost immune to this disease. The younger, the better. Can you make sense of this, anthony . Yeah. Youre seeing that fragment of honesty and then youre seeing whole fragments how can we have this guy be the leader of the free world, leader of this great republican democracy . If thats a warning label to people, and bob woodward writes it in the last chapter of his book. He has 50plus years of experience as an investigative journalist. And he says very clearly that the president is we didnt even get to the degradation of the military, alex. Weve got a lot going on in the last seven or eight days. Its one thing after the next. Its not just the president s family, the president s lawyer, the generals that have worked for the president , people like myself. Bob woodward. I dont understand why hes got 40 support. They call him teflon don but i think its like crazy glue, emphasis on the word crazy that theres still a group of people attached to him with this level of support. And to that point, anthony, lets take a listen to how republican lawmakers, our elected officials, reacted when asked about this book. Here is that. Look, i didnt look at the woodward book. I will later, but i havent even seen what youre referring to yet. Clearly, thats a question for the white house anyway. Havent seen the book. I havent read it. I havent seen the book. I never read it. I want to read it. Look, anthony, its one thing when republicans come to the president s defense. Its anonymous sources. But when the main source is the president himself, theyre having some trouble. Is this president indefensible in that which weve heard and been reported in this book . Well, hes obviously indefensible, because they, quote, unquote, cant make any comments related to the book or to defending him. But its a sad situation for the country. You know, john kennedy wrote three books, profiles of courage. They asked him why it was so thin. He said hey, theres just not a lot of courage out there. He couldnt find a lot of senators that withdrew ranks with their party and did the most patriotic thing for their country. I respect mitch mcconnell, raised money for mcconnell, but mcconnell knows better. Im hoping he can get into his social conscience and recognize with full patriotism the danger of donald trump. We need to rebuild this party. The party has lost its principles. We dont even have a platform coming out of the republican convention. The greate eses esest schism in country since the ford administration. Components from four key battleground states and why they may indicate trouble for the president. Y they may indicate trouble for the president. When the world gets complicated, a lot goes through your mind.
