live at 5:30 a.m. here at 30 rock in new york city. the republican presidential field heads to new hampshire tonight to square off in a debate at dartmouth college. it's the fifth i did bait for the candidates but weather rick perry should be touting his jobs numbers. the numbers for him continue to decline. the latest disappointing numbers for perry come in the new nbc poll where the governor has only 6% support among new hampshire primary voters. mitt romney leads that group with 44% followed by former godfather pizza ceo herman cain. a distant second at 13%. in iowa, the same poll shows romney leading with 23% support among likely caucus goers. herman cain, a close second. in fact, within the margin of error with mitt romney. rick perry at ten. ron paul in third place with 11%. michele bachmann hanging in there as well. the latest national poll has herman cain just about tied for the lead with mitt romney. the two points within the margin of error. aga again, that's a national poll. as cain surges in the polls, he's also getting an upgraded seated at tonight's poll. the candidates will be seated based on their recent poll standings, which put romney and cain side by side in the ened by cain. >> herman cain is a good guy. give him a good look. i'm not going to try to convince you my experience is better than his. we both spent our careers in the private sector. that's one of the reasons both of us are doing well in terms of public support because we have not spent our life entirely in politics. we understand something about how the economy works. >> meanwhile, romney continued to attack perry. >> i'm a conservative businessman. >> time and again the white house has pointed to the massachusetts law as the model for its obamacare. >> i agree with mitt romney. he's right. >> jimmy carter is throwing his weight behind mitt romney. >> we'll find it's the best path. >> i like mandates. >> in my book, i said no such thing. >> why, if it's good for massachusetts, and it's working in massachusetts, wouldn't you apply for the rest of the country? >> i would. >> romney has flip-flopped on some of the issues. >> we'll end up with a nation that's take an mandate approach. >> there are a lot of reasons not to elect me. >> he's right. >> that's a rick perry ad going after mitt romney. romney responded saying in part, rick perry is a desperate candidate who will say and do anything to prop up his sinking campaign. that's from the romney campaign. as the potential 2012 opponents prepare for tonight's debate, president obama heads to pittsburgh this morning to continue his push to sell the american jobs act. later today, the president will stop in orlando for two campaign events before heading back to washington. the president's trip comes as the new washington post bloomberg poll shows americans are increasingly pessimistic about the economy. 52% say it's likely there will be another financial crisis. that's up ten points since march of last year. however, this may not impact the president's re-election. 44% say the outcome of the 2012 election will not make their financial situation any better. now to watch massachusetts's senate race. democratic front runner elizabeth warren has announced she raised $3.1il that's a nice haul. she claims 96% of her contributions were for $100 or less coming from more than 11,000 people in the state of massachusetts. warren's republican rival scott brown countered warren's news by announcing his campaign had raised $1.55 million in the third quarter. it's less than warren, but his total campaign cash now at a whopping $10.5 million. disturbing new report about the treatment of detainees in afghanistan. the cover of today's "new york times" says the united nations has discovered torture at sites run by the national police. the 74-page report finding that nearly half of all detainees experienc experienc experienced interrogation techniques that are considered torture. the report also says the techniques were used at facilities throughout afghanistan and in some instances on children under the age of 18 years old. a pentagon official says the u.s. is reviewing the allegations in this report. egypt's governing military leadership condemning a surge and deadly violence in the country and calling for a full investigation into the events that killed at least two dozen people and injured hundreds more over the weekend. muslims and christians in cairo are now mourning the dead and command demanding the chief military officer be removed from power. the military has been accused by many of not upholding the democratic principles of the egyptian revolution. richard engle has more on the story. >> reporter: this wasn't what the revolution was supposed to bring. funerals after a massacre of christians by egypt's mainly muslim army. it started with a peaceful demonstration. christians, 10% of the population here, were demanding justice after one of their churches was burned down last week by increasingly aggressive islamic radicals. but when the demonstrators reached central cairo, government troops, witnesses say, attacked. military vehicles plowed through crowds. the demonstrators responded, attacking troops with stones. soldiers opened fire, killing 25. even as some christians formed a human shield around one soldier to protect him from angry clouds. in a hospital, we found two young men, one hit by an army truck, the other shot. both insist the army killed unarmed a civilians. protesters are still gathered here in front of the hospital where the bodies of the christian demonstrators were taken. many of these people say egypt's revolution has brought in a period of chaos and empowered islamic extremists leaving egypt's christian minority under threat. christians told us the revolution has failed. the army is helping the islamic groups. adding to the distrust, state tv claimed it was the army that was attacked by christians. it played patriotic music and scenes of muslim-christian harmony. even as clashes continued in front of the station's own headquarters. local tv stations that showed the violence were taken off the air. >> nbc's richard engle reporting from cairo. the white house is condemning that violence. turning back to the united states, the occupy wall street protests now entering their 25th day as demonstrations spread across the country and in some cases grow more heated. they've been largely peaceful. at a rally in boston early this morning, more than 50 people were arrested for trespassing after police say the protesters ignored warnings to move from the rose fitzgerald kennedy greenway. a local group expressed concern about damage to the greenway, prompting police to issue the warning. over 200 officers reportedly surrounded the area after the demonstrators moved their location to the greenway as part of an expansion from their original site. the boston clashes come as new york city mayor michael bloomberg softens his stance on the occupy wall street protests. you remember last week, bloomberg blasted the group saying the focus on banks could harm the new york city job market. when asked how long the protests would continue, bloomberg replied, quote, we'll see what happens. yesterday, the mayor said he did not expect to move the demonstrators any time soon. >> i have no idea how much longer. i think part of it has probably to do with the weather. but the bottom line is people want to express themselves. as long as they obey the laws, we'll allow them to. they break the laws, we're going to do what we're supposed to do. >> some members of the group weighed in saying, bloomberg said we can stay indefinitely. big win. the mayor warned last month about the potential for riots in the streets if the economy continues to stagnate, setting the number of new college graduates who are unable to find jobs. u.s. stocks extending their rally on monday posting their best win streak in five years. this comes as netflix does an about-face. one that will likely soothe the customer anger. let's take a look at the markets as we get all up in your demonstrated, to me, to the fans, to all of the people who work in the buildings, that they tried to make a deal. >> very a variety of issues at question here. all revolving around money. both sides drawing lines in the sand. the big issue is the sharing of the annual revenue. under the previous agreement, players got 57% of revenue, a deal the league claims is unsustainable. according to stern, 22 of the 30 teams lost money last year. the players union disputes that. in the new talks, the owners have considered knocking down the share to 47%. players have countered with 53% after stern's decision, some play ergs took to twitter. lebron james issuing an apology. i want to sincerely say sorry to all the fans, wrote james. it's a sad day for all of us, especially you guys. there's no us
