Campaign manager, corey lewandowski, for allegedly grabbing the arm of a former reporter for a conservative website. The incident occurred after trumps primary Night Press Conference on march 8th. It happened as trump was exiting the ballroom. Thats when a breitbart reporter named Michelle Fields approached trump with a question. And lewandowski his Campaign Manager allegedly intervened. Police in jupiter, florida, say the crime was caught on tape, closed circuit video. That they say shows lewandowski grabbing for fields. Hes now facing a criminal charge for battery or unwanted touching. Thats a misdemeanor charge. The Police Report details an audio recording from fields cell phone that says, i cant believe he just did that. That was so hard, was that corey . After the Trump Campaigns initial denials earlier this month, fields tweeted what she said she was a photo of bruises on her arm, saying, quote, i guess these just magically appeared on me. She filed a Police Report three days later. Lewandowski turned himself in yesterday morning to police. He was quickly released. His lawyers insist he is absolutely innocent. Trump meanwhile spent much of the day defending his top aide on twitter, writing this quote. Wow, my Campaign Manager and a very decent man was charged with assaulting a reporter. Look at tape, nothing there. Quote, why arent people looking at the earliest statement as to what happened . That is before she found out the episode was on tape. Fields tweeted the reply, quote, because my story never changed. Seriously, just stop lying. Trump had more tweets with photos from just before the incident. Quote, Victory Press Conference was over. Why is she allowed to grab me and shout questions . Can i press charges . And quote, why is this reporter touching me as i leave News Conference . What is in her hand . Trump reacted yesterday saying his Campaign Manager was just trying to protect him. I told him, i said you should never set this will case, go all the way. I think they have really hurt a very good person. And i know it would be very easy for me to discard people. I dont discard people. I stay with people. Thats why i stay with this country. Thats why i stay with a lot of people that are treated unfairly. Thats why im the frontrunner by a lot. You probably saw what happened today with my campaign hes a guide. Corey. The easiest thing, corey, youre fired, i cant do that. I cant do it. So fortunately, i have a taping system. You know, very im rich. So i have tapes all over. So this young woman who complained was oh, she was talking about being maybe thrown to the floor and all this. I said, oh thats horrible. Then we saw the tapes. Did anybody see the tape . What did you think . Right . Nothing. Im leaving with a whole big gang of people, people pushing left and right, left and right. All of a sudden, she bolts into the picture. She grabs me, hits me on the arm. In fact im like this with my arm up. He goes by i mean, maybe he touched her a little bit, but i didnt it was almost like he was trying to keep her off me, right . And news of that arrest yesterday shaped much of the political conversation. All of this playing out one week before that wisconsin primary. That crucial wisconsin primary. Reaction yesterday beginning with ted cruz who called the incident quote, a fireable offense. Of the culture of the Trump Campaign. The abusive culture. When you have a campaign thats built on personal insults, on attacks and now physical violence, that has no place in a political campaign. It has no place in our democracy. And i think it is a really unfortunate development, but i do think it helps clarify for the voters. What the Trump Campaign is all about. First of all, i dont know this guy. I dont know exactly what happened. My understanding is that the report is that he grabbed somebody and thats frankly totally and completely inappropriate. It could have been one of my daughters for that matter. Look, i think i have said what i have to say, which is if it was me, if i was in this circumstance, i would take some sort of action. Even suspension or firing. Every candidate has to be responsible for what happens in their campaign. What donald trump has been doing over these last months is insighting is inciting violent and aggressive behavior. That i think is very dangerous and its resulted in attacks on people at his events. And including this charge that was now brought against his Campaign Manager. Im not going to comment on a pending legal or criminal case. But i think that, you know, ultimately the responsibility is mr. Trumps. Meanwhile, all three remaining republican candidates now seem to be backing away from a pledge they initially made to support their partys eventual nominee. Essentially youre saying its in the balance, youre kind of waiting to see . Well, i would say that that would be a good way to describe it. I have to see what happens. If the nominee is somebody that i think is really hurting the country and dividing the country, i cant stand behind them. But we have a ways to go. Lets see how this all folds out. And so so far is it fair to say that you believe donald trump looks like he would harm the country if he was the nominee . Thatll be up to the voters here. Im not going to get into that. Thats too much below the belt. Im not in the habit of sub porting someone who attacks supporting my wife or my family. Thats below the line. If donald trump is the gop nominee, would you support him . Let me tell you my solution to that. Donald is not going to be the gop nominee. Were going to beat him. I would assume by you saying you would not support him, you would not support him . I gave you my answer. Listen, i think nominating donald trump would be an absolute train wreck. When i was pressing senator cruz on it, sounded like he was saying hed have a hard time supporting somebody he doesnt obviously have to support me. Im not asking for his support. I want the peoples support. Do you ever the republican nominee . I dont know you dont . Well see who it is. You wont support the nominee . He doesnt have to support me. I have tremendous support right now from the people. And with just a week to go before the wisconsin primary, ted cruz yesterday picking up a big endorsement in that state. It came from republican Governor Scott walker who dismissed the idea he was simply opposing donald trump saying, quote, im supporting someone, not against something or someone. And then thats senator marco rubio who despite suspending his president ial campaign is trying to keep ahold of the 172 delegates he won this year. A source working for rubio telling msnbc saying that rubio sent a signed letter in 21 states and territories asking he be allowed to keep his delegates. The letter scent to the chair of the Alaska Republican Party reads in part, i write this letter to inform you that the decision to suspend my campaign for the untied meant to say united, says that this decision is not to release any national delegates. It is my desire that the delegates allocated to me by your rules remain bound to vote for me on at least the first nominating ballot. The Alaska Republican Party has agreed to let rubio keep the five delegates that he won in that state. A spokesman for rubio telling msnbc, quote, he wants to give voters a chance to stop trump. Now on the democratic side, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders both campaigning in wisconsin yesterday. Also a democratic primary there next week and with just under a week of campaigning left in that state, both are opening up familiar lines of attack. One of the reasons that we can speak to hundreds of thousands of people around this country is im not wasting my time going to rich peoples homes, begging them for their campaign contributions. Id rather be here with you here in appleton. Than begging billionaires for their money. And this is one of the real differences of opinion that secretary clinton and i have. Its how we have chosen to raise the money we need to run the campaigns. One of the big differences that i have with my distinguished opponent, senator sand sanders, who talks about free college, the plan depends upon governors like your governor, putting in a lot of money. I dont think its all that realistic to say, well, youll get free college as long as scott walker chips in about, you know yeah, about 300 million. That seems like a big leap of faith to me. And as sanders and clinton jostle for support in wisconsin, their campaigns are circling the idea of a debate in new york. Thatll be the next state to vote after wisconsin. Clinton telling reporters yesterday she quote, thinks the campaigns are talking about it. Sanders had this to say last night. Do you think shes serious about debating you . I certainly hope so. The suspect is now expected to appear in court this morning. No charges were filed against the alleged hijacker, but a court has ordered he be held for eight days while the investigation takes place. Authorities say that mustafa, the alleged hijacker, claimed he had an explosive belt. Everyone was released except for a few passengers and crew members. One was seen scrambling out the cockpit window. And then he surrendered. According to the sun news people the passenger his name is ben ennis, took it to get a closer look at the allegedlied explosives. I figured if his bomb was real, i had nothing to lose anyway. Authorities say the explosive belt that he claimed to have was a fake.
