26-year-old from morocco. he was known to european authorities. last year french officials were warned about possible streamist ties. >> reporter: the man, tied up and tripped of an ak-47, a pistol, a blade and a bag of ammunition on friday is ayoub el khazzani, a 26-year-old from morocco who had lived in the spanish city of ail gentleman engineer easy with his parents. he went fishing, he was a normal kid this i ma'am said. spanish authorities say el khazzani was arrested at least once for drugs and french officials were warned about alleged ties to islamic extremists last year. a lawyer who represented el khazzani during his first few years in police custody said he swore he's not a terrorist and claimed he only wanted to rob passengers on the train after finding a bag with the guns in a park. usairman spencer stone was the first to tackle the gunman. he talked about how it happened at a press conference with his childhood friends, alec scar lore toes and anthony sadler. >> it's kind of a long story. alec hit me on the shoulder and said let's go. we tackled him, hit the ground. alec came up and grabbed the gun out of his hand while i put him in a choke hold. it seemed like he just with a cut on his neck helping a passenger who also had a neck wound. >> in the beginning it was mostly gut instinct. >> i saw spencer get up and alec get up. those are my close friends so i couldn't let them go alone. >> reporter: as for the suspect's claim that he wasn't on board to kill -- >> it doesn't take 8 magazines to rob a train. >> he seemed like he was ready to fight to the end, and so we were. now to louisiana where a state trooper is in critical condition after being shot in the head yesterday during a traffic stop. the man suspected of shooting him is behind bars because of the help of civilians. 13-year veteran steven vincent was responding to a report of a suspected drunken driver outside of bell city about 50 miles east of the texas border when it happened. police video reportedly shows him trying to talk a man out of a vehicle and the man shooting vincent with a sht shotgun. a passing driver saw vincent lying on the ground and stopped to help. a second driver then helped and used the trooper's handcuffs to subdue him. 50-year-old kevin daigle is behind bars and state trooper steven vincent is fighting for his life. >> he's on the third floor right now and he's fighting for his life. when you think of what happened just a few short hours ago, it's not something he should be doing right now. here's a good guy. his wife katherine, his son ethan nine years old, here's a guy who loved to run. he ran marathons. as we're standing here, the doctors tell us his organs are in great shop, they're ready to work, but the gunshot wound to his head has messed up his are off by as much as 7%. looks like another tough day for the markets across the globe already. >> reporter: absolutely. we had the biggest fall on the dow on friday, falling 530 points. the s&p falling 3.2. i can go through more numbers, a large number of sectors in the u.s. are in bear market territory or correction territory which means ten percent or more low. as far as today is concerned, the dow is down around 300 points at the moment. the s&p down by about 30 points, the nasdaq 140 points. some of the markets trading in terms of the asian indices, japan down 4.6% for the blue chips. the nikkei was done 7.5%. in europe as well, the major indices falling down three and four percent, adding to those concerns. at the heart of it, concerns about china and about the u.s.
