>> you are seeing two different things where jeb bush was not in iowa. marco rubio statements have been careful. it will be interesting to see what happens once this court ruling happens. i think those are interesting. and you really heard the candidates trying to figure oh, how do i seem tolerant and show my traditional values on the other hand. >> that question he made a little news. going to that audience last night this is what he had to say. let's play that. >> marriage is an institution that existed before government itself that the institution of marriage is one man and one woman existed before our laws existed. >> so there it is. two different messages it almost sounds like. >> i think they have really handled this clumsyly. jeb bush has been the worst. jeb bush was the first to defend mike on the religious freedom. he didn't mention that jeb bush went to a fund raiser and said that the law needed to be changed or that he was having a donor retreat in south beach, the gayest geography region and then had rubio who would attend a gay wedding but then went to iowa and said marriage needs to be between a man and a woman. this is striking me as how clumsy many of the candidates handled immigration. >> i look at bobby jindal and he's basically saying i know 60% of the country supports gay marriage but there are a lot of people on the right that are still absolutely not there. he is making the play to gobble up as many of them as possible. how much room do you think he has there? >> similar to what perry said. unfortunately, younger republicans are moving on this issue but older republicans vote and they vote in primaries and this is the sort of you know when you see it every cycle. there's a moment that i'm going to be the conservativist. it's that silly. they are just staking their claim. the gay marriage issue is the place where they decided to do this and i think it's partially because of the religious freedom law and it's an easy way to differentiate yourself. they are playing minority politics. >> kathy, let me bring you back in this. obviously social conservatives holding sway out there, i also look at the roster of speakers. i almost wonder are there so many candidates of mike huckabee courting that same base?
