>> sit down, please. >> you were not called. >> i'm a reporter and -- don't touch me, sir. >> you're being disruptive. >> i have a right to ask a question. >> yes, in order and turn. >> well, ramos escorted from the room by security, but about ten minutes later called back in and trump called on him twice, taking issues about immigration. and just a short time ago mr. trump responded to all of this on the "today" show. >> he was totally out of line last night. i was asking and being asked a question from another reporter. i would have gotten to him very quickly and stood up and started ranting and raving like a mad man and frankly, he was out of line. most people, most newspaper reports said i handled it very well. he was totally, absolutely out of line. >> ramos offered his reaction just moments ago. >> i want to have an interview with donald trump and wanted to have an interview with donald trump and few weeks ago i sent him a handwritten note with my cell phone and instead of responding, he published on the internet my cell phone. he hasn't been given r giving us answers and it is -- this is very important for the hispanic community and this is personal. >> there's no doubt that mr. trump has decided so far not to speak to univision. kasie hunt, you were in the room last night during that confrontation. what was it like? >> reporter: well, jose, it was very much a tense moment. it's a very difficult situation when you see a colleague, a fellow reporter, escorted from a press conference that's been opened basically to everyone. we should also point out the des moines register was barred entirely from attending. trump has taken issue with their coverage and barred them from events. he was escortsed back into the room after a couple of follow-up questions from reporters who asked why he wasn't willing to take that question. then ultimately what resulted was an extended back and forth between the two of them with jorge ramos questioning him repeatedly and making a series of statements about his immigration positions that trump himself took issue with. you heard there trump talking a little bit about how he felt ramos conducted himself in the wake of that. >> let me put this in a little context for you, folks, univision and telemundo are the two biggest brands in spanish media. jorge is a friend of mine, i've known him, he's a dogged reporter, doesn't back down. he doesn't back down here in the united states or in other places where he has to ask difficult questions. but this is not first time jorge has been involved in something like this. did you as reporters feel he was out of line or was he doing what roshters are supposed to do, which is ask questions even if they are uncomfortable? >> well, jose, i think asking difficult questions is something that is the fundamental job of a reporter. that said you cover a political campaign and the political campaign is about the candidates, not about the reporters and so i think that everyone is watch the video of that press conference and judge for themselves about what they think happened and how that was conducted. every reporter can decide that the way that they want to conduct themselves. that said, the protocol for these press conferences can be mixed. donald trump does tend to call on people one at a time. if you're not regularly in press conferences you wouldn't know that and there are plenty of press conferences that consist of propertiers trying to yell over each other. just ask hillary clinton or jeb bush to face down massive reporters trying to get their attention. there are a lot of different tab ticks that politicians use to handle that kind of situation. typically ejecting a reporter who is trying to ask a question isn't the first course of action, jose. >> but let me bring back a little bit more context. and mr. ramos did get up, stand up in the middle of the news conference and start asking this question, even though trump was asking someone else. however, let's talk about what happened, for example, just last month, you and i were covering trump's visit to the border in laredo, put my hand up in the front row, called on me knowing who he was and then this happened. listen to it. >> feel that what you said, when you said that people across the border are rapists and murderers. >> we're talking about illegal immigration and everybody understands that. that's a typical -- wait, that's a typical case of the press with misterpgs. they take a half a sentence -- they take a half a sentence -- by the way, take a half sentence and take a quarter of sentence and put it all together. it's a typical thing -- >> so, at the end of that, if we would have continued running it, i said can i at least finish the question i was going to ask? and he said no, you're finished and walked out. so it's like, they are criticizing jorge ramos for standing up and asking a question. when i was sitting down and raised my hand and called that happened. is this a pattern? what's the formal proper way to ask questions? >> reporter: well, jose, like anything else, donald trump is rewriting the script for a lot of this. rewriting the script for the republican nominating contest. to a certain extent, he's rewriting the way that reporters interact with him over the course of this campaign in covering him. i think any reporter who has covered presidential campaigns in the past would tell you that even coming in and having a 20 minute media avail ahead of a big campaign event speech isn't typically the way you go about it. many ways trump is taking more questions from reporters than others. your experience shows and mine bears this out as well, it's pretty difficult to get donald trump to answer a direct question. he has with me on several occasions but at the same time he's very quick to go back to his set of talking points that frankly are resonating with the audience he's talking to. and in many ways whapds with jorge ramos yesterday is something for trump supporters, it's easy for them to get behind. they do believe that this is something that where he was in the right and that ramos was being rude and that -- that's something that in many ways adds fuel to the fire that donald trump has started. >> to be completely transparent about a month before that incident, that you and i witnessed in laredo, texas, i had a 15-minute plus interview with mr. trump and asked him anything and everything and look forward to having him on in the future as well. thank you, it's great seeing you. >> thanks, jose. >> now to breaking news we're following out of virginia, a deadly shooting that happened in the middle of a television live shot. police are searching for a person who they say shot at multiple people at the bridgewater plaza near smith mountain lake. according to the sheriff's department spoekds person, the shooting occurred at 6:45 a.m. this morning. the reporter, ally son parker and adam ward were killed according to a witness on the scene there is a major police presence in the area, around 30 to 40 officers have responded. members with bedford and frankly county and virginia state police are on the scene. police continue to look for the shooter at the time. we're hoping to get a description out to you very shortly. we have video that is going to be coming in and this is live video of the area around the mall. we have video of what occurred around 6:45 this morning as we continue to follow this story. we will, of course, continue it but right now wdjb and these are the people -- this is going on right now, is saying that a reporter and one of their camera men were killed this morning about 6:45 a.m. jim cavanaugh is on the phone with me this morning. what is this all about? >> yeah, jose, this is horrible. a cameraman and reporter killed in virginia. i know that area of virginia well, been through there many times. it's southwestern virginia, it's kind of a lake area. there's malls and it's a nice rural style community, small stills there. you know, it sounds like they have all of the officers there, the deputies and state troopers but they've got to find the shooter. this is the critical thing. they've got to get the descriptions from the witnesses and got to find out who this person is. this is a place where a person is going to get to the scene by car, not like a manhattan environment where people can traverse on mass transit or through the crowd. you're going to have to get away by vehicle. so they are going to have to find a description of the shooter, description of the vehicle, you know, and try to track this person down because the urgency, of course, is that the man has gotten away and this is tragic, tragic for -- >> horrible story. >> to be killed in america like this. unbelievable. >> this is part of the wdbj coverage that they are discussing right now. and this is video of what happened moments -- right as this incident happened, we're not showing you the complete video because it was captured on apparently camera. but about 6:45 this morning, both the reporter and the cameraman that were taking part of a live shot right outside the mall, 6:45 in the morning, gunshots erupted and both the correspondent and as well as the cameraman, apparently both died. we're seeing this mall. it's in an area where you're saying that the gunman probably needed to get in there via car and out via car. 6:45 in the morning, not a lot of people in and out of that area. what are you looking at if you're looking right now and officials have closed the schools in the area i'm told are closed for the day. this is in the monetta, virginia area. schools are closed for the day. the gunman apparently still on the loose. jim, what are you looking for if you're an official right now? >> you're looking at the descriptions of the vehicle and shooter and you're going to go to the mall security cameras as fast as you can. i'm sure city detectives are already on that. you've got to pull that footage and you've got to see if there's a vehicle speeding away because you know, picture a mall parking lot at 6:45 a.m. that's an unusual place and time to have an event like this occur. why is someone shooting at a camera crew and why at that hour of the day? is this an impulsive act. it's a rural area. southwestern virginia, there's a lot of guns and everybody has guns. there's rural hunting, part of the culture. it's not unusual that people are in their vehicles and have guns but why was somebody shooting at a camera crew. that's extremely unusual. so and was it a long gun, we would like to see early on was it a long gun, hand gun? you know, was the person close to the reporters cameraman or was he further away? did he shoot from a vehicle? like a drive-by shooting. they've got to get the camera and footage and security from the buildings and get the eyewitnesses to track down that car and track down the shooter. >> jim, in the video we showed and we're not showing obviously the entirety of it, but you can clearly see the reporter was interviewing someone else and then does react to the sound of gunshots. so it was more than one obviously, that killed these two people. but there were -- at the time at least in the video we saw a snippet of the reporter was speaking to someone else. at least there were three people in the immediate area. let's go to our local affiliate's coverage right now and wdbj, right now and let's listen in to that. >> we realize we cover stories of people being shot all the time and so now we realize firsthand what so many of you have sadly gone through. that when it's someone you know and someone you love and care about and someone you work with, day in and day out. just when someone so young, i think -- >> the potential that's been robbed because of this incident, yeah. >> and i know that you all welcome these faces into your homes every morning, kim and leo and alison and you don't see adam -- >> he's sometimes in the weather bug question. i think that all of you feel like these are kind of members of your family too. we wanted to make sure we let you know what is going on. and join with us in the sense of shock and loss and mourning we're all feeling this morning. >> we should probably go back to regular programming now than prolonging this. rest assured we'll come back on the air as -- >> that was our coverage from our local affiliate in the area, former atf officer jim cav van gnaw is with me. adam ward, apparently killed during a live shot at 6:45 in the morning. the video we've been saying from the either live shot or what was in the camera during that live shot, the reporter is interviewing another person and does react, it looks like at least it seemed to me, does react to the sound of gunfire. it could have been the first of a few rounds. jim, but this is just a horrible story and the only thing i can think of, local reporters sometimes will go to a mall opening early or doing something, going back to school week and will have a series of live shots throughout the day, even a couple during the first 15 minutes of the broadcast then another couple during the next 15 minutes of the broadcast. so someone could have known they were there. but it's just unexplainable. >> right, exactly, jose, you know, you know better than anyone, part of the fabric of america, where they are doing their stories and not deterred bypasser by or anybody and people are always looking at them. they do their stuff, their work in the most out front places in america. and here is one of those places, the front of a mall. but i have had cases ever random shooters, snipers, who just kill people from a vehicle with a rifle for example, for almost no apparent reason at all than to just kill. so detectives are going to have to get on to see is there anybody mad at the particular station? is there a personal grudge against one of the reporters? is it some kind of larger political event? you know, what's going on here, it's really going to develop rapidly this morning. and you know, this just strikes at the heart of american freedom right here, to shoot reporters in front of a mall. it's unbelievable. it has a rippling effect across our constitution to do this. so it's a huge event. we've got to have all of the federal, state and county and city officers there working together to find this guy or persons. >> thank you very much. stay with me throughout the remainder of today, please. we're going to take a short break and be right back. we have this breaking news, horrible story out of virginia, two people, reporter and cameraman alison parker and adam ward, the cameraman from wdbj, shot and killed this morning at 6:45 this morning eastern time. officials still looking for the gunman. it is a situation that is very fluid. we will continue covering for you on "the rundown" and be right back. a subconscious. a knack for predicting the future. reflexes faster than the speed of thought. can a business have a spirit? >> i would agree. i think the cameras around the mall are going to be critical to law enforcement to get earliest possible description of shooters and of course the eyewitnesses that are available. they've got to put that together fast. that's the strongest evidence to find out the description so they can broadcast it. one thing here, jose, is in a case like this, the public is on your side. and law enforcement has to really leverage that early because the public is on your side. they want to call. they will call. that's why it's so important at this moment. >> clint, talk about what authorities and officials are doing right now to try to find the person or people that did this horrible act at 6:45, a couple of hours ago. >> well, what we know from witnesses is that at least eight shots were fired at this time. we also know that the cameraman who was shot and killed, it looks like he was able to get a picture of the shooter before the cameraman went down. in essence, the tv station and law enforcement may not not just have pictures from surveillance cameras in the area, but they may have studio quality pictures of the shooter whoever this person is at the time. now, as you're talking to jim cavanaugh, this is highly unusual at that time. morning. that suggests that either we have this terrible coincidence of this person who had this killer rage happen to be at that location with a gun or else he knew something was going on and it was preplanned. so what does that tell us? it's either personal against one of the two individuals who were shot and killed and they have something to do with the station itself or there's going to be a larger motive. law enforcement as you ask, has a number of things going on. number one, we've got to picture who is this guy? where is he? and what might be the motive? most important now, you've got a man on the run already killed two people, who is likely fully capable of doing this again. so law enforcement has a life and death situation in their hands. >> absolutely critical what you're pointing out. i want to kind of expand on what you're saying, this is a cbs affiliate, i understand in the area. if this shooting occurred at 6:45 in the morning, there are normally two hour morning broadcasts locally produced in the morning before the national morning programs take effect at 7:00 in the morning. if this happened at 6:45 in the morning, could very well be that the shooter had seen this live shot occur throughout the morning. it could have been a situation where this was not the first live shot that this reporter and cameraman had had this morning. it could have been the third or fourth if it were part of a local broadcast. and had had consistent live broadcast throughout the morning. either way, the third possibility is that someone was home nearby, watched these two people on the air and knew they were going to be there until at least 7:00 this morning. >> you know, we all want to know motive, we want to know how could something terrible one more time like this happen in our country. but right now, law enforcement is not so concerned with motive. they are trying to identify this guy by his picture. they want to know what type of vehicle he's driving, where does he work? you want to know is there anybody in his house he might have injured before he came out to do this. if he's on the run, where might he be on the run? jim and i have backgrounds as negotiators. if i find out the guy has a cell phone, i'm going to call him directly and say, this is so and so with the state police, we've got an investigation going on, we need to talk to you. we need to talk to you now. all of these things are happening simultaneously. but i think law enforcement's biggest fear is that this guy could kill a random citizen or if a police officer stopped him and that officer didn't know what they were coming into, this guy would be fully capable of shooting that officer again. extremely dangerous situation right now and again, motive will come but right now, we got to catch the guy. >> that's key and jim, as i speak to you, i want to show a still picture of those last moments around 6:45 in the morning when this live broadcast was occurring and these two people were shot and killed. this is the reporter interviewing, i understand vickie gardener, the lady on the right. she's still alive and survived. i understand she may have been injured but alison parker on the left part of the screen is interviewing when the shots -- you can hear them break out. adam ward is behind the camera. and what clint is saying, there's a possibility that adam at one time or another, either turned the camera around or flipped the camera and may have actually caught the shooter on tape. as clint van zandt says, high definition tape. we don't know if it was quick or a pan or what it is. that screen shot or the final seconds before the shooting occurs. we'll take a short break. jim and clint van zandt, stay with me. breaking news, two people killed, a reporter and a cameraman, alison parker and adam ward, killed at 6:45 in the morning. they were interviewing a third person, a vickie gardner who was injured in the shooting. she has survived. we'll be right back, day of breaking news on "the rundown." can you spot the difference? no? you can't see that? alright, let's take a look. the one on the right just used 1% less fuel than the one on the left. now, to an airline, a 1% difference could save enough fuel to power hundreds of flights around the world. hey, look at that. pyramids. so you see, two things that are exactly the same have never been more different. ge software. get connected. get insights. get optimized. they don't worry if something's possible. they just do it. at sears optical, we're committed to bringing them eyewear that works as hard as they do. right now, buy one pair and get another free. quality eyewear for doers. sears optical no sixth grader's ever sat with but your jansport backpack is permission to park it wherever you please. hey. that's that new gear feeling. this week, these folders just one cent. office depot officemax. gear up for school. gear up for great. and developing now, a live look at the new york stock exchange, we're expecting to see stocks surge out of the gate, representatives of the u.s. open are ringing the opening bell. stocks have been bouncing up and down like a tennis ball late 4ri6789 we're joined by dominic, good morning. what's the wrong open and yesterday there was an up and down and ended down, right? >> this is the most volatility many of us have seen in the last few years for the overall stock market but the important point at least to start today, we are having a positive bounce, trying to find stability here. we have had positive economic data as well as a big merger in the oil services sector. that's going to help propel the steam to the upside. the real question will be whether or not the gains can hold. as you pointsed out yesterday, we were up 400 some points and finished down 205. a huge reversal for the dow jones industrial average. the question for a lot of investors right now is about sentiment. we've seen this pullback in the past over the course of the five or six years and each time we've had these kind of moves lower, the buyers have come in and bought stocks on sale. now it's going to be about whether these gains can hold this time around. in an interesting note here as well, jose, according to s&p dow jones indexes, they track the big moves. he says over the last six sessions entering today, the s&p 500 index, 2.5 trillion in market value over the past six days. is that enough af discount for people to buy or is there more pain ahead. >> thank you very much. we'll continue to watch that story for you. but we want to go back to breaking news, we're following out of monetta, virginia, a deadly shooting that happened in the middle of a television live shot. they are searching for a person who they say shot at multiple people at the bridgewater plaza near smith mountain lake. according to franklin county sheriff's department, the shooting occurred at 6:45 this morning. alison parker and adam ward were killed. the woman being interviewed was injured but survived. i want to bring back clint van zandt and jim cavanaugh. the fact we're about three hours into this horrible incident and we still really don't know much about it -- and we have jim on the line. we don't know much about what is going on -- i'm sorry, i'm being told we have clint van zandt on the line. what is happening do you think? >> well, i think right now there's a major search going on. i've just seen a picture of what purports to be the shooter, what we were talking about in the last segment, jose. and what this picture, should it be accurate, shows an apparent male, probably white, dressed in black who is the one who allegedly did the shooting, fired up to eight shots and then he's described by witnesses as calmly turning around and walking away. well this leads us to many questions, dressed in black, is this something that a uniform he would wear for work or is this like so many individuals when they feel they are going to go into a shooting spree, they dress in their quote/unquote combat clothing, coming out to do something like this. but all of that said and done, law enforcement has although grainy, a picture of the likely shooter's face. and as jim cavanaugh suggested, there would be other surveillance cameras in the area. not only are we looking for the shooter but we're looking for the vehicle he would have gotten in and was anybody else assisting him at the time. but i can tell you what, state police will be shutting down roads all over that area if in fact they have a description of any type of a vehicle while they are looking for this guy and the picture, though grainy, appears good enough in that small community, if somebody knows him, they ought to be able to figure out who it is. >> jim cavanaugh joins me once again. the schools in the local area have been closed for the day, no school activity. the fact is if they do have a picture, even if they don't, there is enough information on those cameras, both the camera that the camera man adam ward who was filming, being seen live throughout the area, as well as the mall cameras, to ats least backtrack what happened at 6:45 and see the movement that occurred right after that. >> that's right, jose, the power of the camera, the power of journalism here may be the thing that traps the shooter. they got to get that on the air as soon as they can. that's really, really important to get that all up there. and that way they can get that out to the public and find out what's going on. >> jim, thank you very much. i want to go now to during this breaking news story, the general manager of the station where alison park and adam ward work. here he is making an announcement a little while ago. >> very, very sad duty to report that we have determined through the help of the police and our own employees that alison and adam died this morning when the shots rang out. we do not know the motive. we do not know who the suspect -- who the killer is. we do know that the franklin county sheriff, just got off of the phone with franklin county sheriff and state police, they are working very diligently to track down both the motive and the person responsible for this terrible crime against two fine journalists. >> that was the general manager of the station making the formal announcement that alison parker and adam ward were killed this morning about 6:45 in the morning. jim, we're talking about what information and shreds of evidence people have and thoughts have right now to search three hours into this incident. they clearly have some idea of where they should be looking right now. >> exactly, jose, it's critical for the law enforcement commanders to get into the cameras and put the information to the public. clint was spot on in everything he said. he and i know from our years of experience that you leverage the public's help and especially in these cases when the public is vastly on your side. it's interesting what clint described as the guy dressed all in black and you know, that's a very mountainous area. when you showed that video, i've been up in that area, smith mountain lake, we're talking about a mall but you can see behind the reporters, the mountains, the lake. it's a very rural area. so someone had a reason to be at that location and they had to -- they might have been on foot when they were on scene but no way to get out of there unless you're running through the woods. the state police and deputies, they've got to get the information out quick. like clint describes and this is where the magic of the behavioral analysis experience comes in that was so valuable to commanders, what's he doing there all dressed in black? why is he there at that time of day? was it a long gun, hand gun? it's going to be an interesting development but it's a critical time for the residents of that area to support the police, report everything you see and maybe this guy can be apprehended quickly. >> all indications are that this was not a shooting that occurred from a distance but rather pretty close by and that the shooter actually approached the area where this live shot was taking place. and that does make a difference because he had to clearly get out of an automobile. he did not probably shoot from within a car as we've seen in other instances. >> no, that's right. if he walked up close to them and might have even had a hand gun and fired on the camera crew and maybe some other people, there may be a definitive purpose in that. that may lead to some suspects who have previously threatened the station, the media, reporters personally, could be a personal grudge. could be a larger grudge. you know, the question comes to mind, jose, what story were they reporting on as well. you made the point and i think it's an excellent one, someone sitting at home and saw that they were reporting from that location. you know when people do a live shot, they might be there for an hour, do a few different hits during the kourgs of the news cycle. and someone could see that and be aggravated at the topic. so people can react in strange and violent ways, all of that has got to be put into the mix for the commanders and investigators to see if it can lead to the guy. i'm with clint, the motive isn't as important at the moment except for the point that if it can help you lead to who and where the shooter is. >> i can show the picture, if you stay with me, from what i understand, the reporter was interviewing vickie gardner, who was injured -- the lady in the white on the right part of the screen, just outside and you see the mall there behind them. this is right -- this is a second before those at least eight gunshots rang out live on television. the reporter was interviewing plz gardner about the positive aspects, saying gardner was talking about how it's important that people come out to areas and tourism, et cetera, that it's a good time to come out and visit that part of virginia. you see on the map there where monetta is. just thinking of the rundown of a program at 6:45, there are about wrapping up the last quarter of their local morning broadcast before sending it over to new york for the national 7:00 a.m. news programs, the morning shows. so it could have been, clint, that someone saw that the reporter and the cameraman were there throughout the morning. it still is just motive is so just unexplainable and you have to think dressed in black, it tells you because you told me that a couple of times, tells you anything at all? >> it tells us either as jim suggests, this is the local garb because of where the believed shooter works or does something else or today we're supposed to hear about the sentencing in the colorado movie theater shooting. and we realize when that individual went in to commit that horrific act, he too was dressed in his own form of costume or shooting uniform. so many times, shooters are not necessarily original thinkers when we see things like this. many times they copy the behavior of others and get the idea from someone else and then they dress, arm themselves. but what's interesting too, you see the reporter doing the stand-up with this woman and neither one is reacting to somebody coming into their field of view. neither one is reacting to a man dressed in black likely carrying a gun walking toward them. now, you and i know when you're doing these live interviews, you're eye to eye and looking at that person and dealing with that. in your peripheral vision this is going on and this guy is able to walk up to them, unload as you've reported at least eight different shots, then turn and get away. the question of course, is why hasn't that picture that i'm referring to, that i'm seeing on the internet, why hasn't that totally been released yet? many times in law enforcement, police want to use that picture first. they want to make the identification and they want to go get the bad guy. but jim cavanaugh makes the point that the public is a force multiplier, tens and thousands of millions of people watching every channel in the nation right now watching this story develop. somebody out there knows who this guy is. maybe somebody who knows and law enforcement doesn't. this is the time you do get the public on your side. you show his picture. we like to believe the law enforcement may already know who he is, may know what his vehicle is. they may have an apb on him right now. but you need the public's help to find him and tell the public to otherwise stay away from him. >> there's no way, clint and jim, that this reporter or the cameraman who's got his focus on the view finder and his back is to whatever is happening behind him, can be thinking that there's anything unusual about somebody coming up. i mean, i spent two years living in central america and el salvador in the 1985 and 1986 years and then you keep your eye on peripheral people coming in because there's a civil war going on. if you're in the middle of a mall in virginia at 6:45 in the morning talking about tourism, the last thing you can -- should be thinking about is that and this is what we're seeing in a mall in virginia. clint van zandt and jim, we'll take a short break and be back with more on this story. a reporter and cameraman killed for wdbj, cbs affiliate in virginia. one person injured and the gunman apparently still on the loose. imagine - she won't have to remember passwords. or obsess about security. she'll log in with her smile. he'll have his very own personal assistant. and this guy won't just surf the web. he'll touch it. scribble on it. and share it. because these kids will grow up with windows 10. get started today. windows 10. a more human way to do. to folks out there whose diabetic nerve pain... shoots and burns its way into your day, i hear you. to everyone with this pain that makes ordinary tasks extraordinarily painful, i hear you. make sure your doctor hears you too! i hear you because i was there when my dad suffered with diabetic nerve pain. if you have diabetes and burning, shooting pain in your feet or hands, don't suffer in silence! step on up and ask your doctor about diabetic nerve pain. tell 'em cedric sent you. no student's ever been the king of the campus on day one. but you're armed with a roomy new jansport backpack, a powerful new dell 2-in-1 laptop, and durable new stellar notebooks, so you're walking the halls with varsity level swagger. that's what we call that new gear feeling. you left this on the bus... get it at the place with the experts to get you the right gear. office depot officemax. gear up for school. gear up for great. joining me on the phone, president of roman and associates and global investigation and security consultation firm. anthony, good morning, we're following this story out of virginia. a reporter and cameraman from the local cbs affiliate in the area there shot and killed this morning, about 6:45 that would be exactly three hours. >> good morning, jose, this is another terrible shooting in a long string of what seems like endless shootings in this country that are happening every two to three weeks. this one is particularly heinous. since we actually see it happen on air, just absolutely senseless. but what the authorities are going to be focused on is quickly identifying the individual that we have the visual on. we need to determine initially whether or not there is any relationships between the parties that were injured and killed and the shooter himself. as a matter of fact, my investigation team is doing a civil background right now to make that determination. are there any photographs displayed on any of the social media which would reflect that these individuals may have known each other, may have had any problems together, may have had had a relationship in the past? the authorities will also be focusing on any mental history of this individual. they will seal his apartment. it will become a crime scene. they'll look at look at all of his hard drives any paperwork that's present in the apartment, any notes, any evidence at all, certainly being careful that there aren't explosive devices or booby traps as in the colorado movie theater shooting. these are the types -- >> no, anthony, i was just going to say there is a very good probability that adam ward, the photographer, the videographer that was on the scene filming this live broadcast about 6:45 a.m. when the shots rang out, and there were at least eight shots that were captured on that live broadcast, there is a very good probability that as adam ward either heard the shots or was struck by them, he actually turned the camera around and there is a very good probability that that camera caught at least a glimpse of the shooter. they're saying he was in all dark clothing. so that little bit of information is huge if, indeed, they are able to get that still picture from the video and get information from it. >> well, that is going to be huge, but i'm also quite confident that there are many other video images of the individual. they were in a public area where there is likely either security cameras present or local businesses that have security cameras that probably have captured him. chances are the shooter arrived in some sort of vehicle, and freeways have video cameras, toll booths have video cameras, so an entire path of arrival and approach can be secured during the course of the investigation. and we can begin to piece together where he came from, where he lived, who he might be, who might be his neighbors, who might be his friends and associates, and this is essentially how the investigators start piece mealig this together. >> anthony rowan, thank you very much for being with me. we're going to take a short break and be back with this breaking news story out of virginia. two people shot and killed live on television. the reporter, alison parker, and the cameraman, adam ward, doing their jobs this morning at a local mall when someone came and shot them. at least eight shots were fired. we'll have much more after this short break. he's always hanging out with his friends. you've got to be prepared to sit at the edge of your seat and be ready to get up. there's no "deep couch sitting." definitely not good for my back. this is the part i really don't like right here. been following out of moneta, virginia. a local reporter and cameraman were shot and killed during a live broadcast this morning. right now police are searching for the suspect. they say the gunman shot at multiple people at the mall this morning around 6:45 a.m. local time. wdbj reporter alison parker and cameraman adam ward were killed. the woman who was being interviewed at the time, vicky gardner, was injured but did survive. this was all captured on tape, on video, but nbc news has decided not to show the moments when the shots were fired. here's general manager jeff marks just a short time ago. >> our hearts are broken and our sympathies go to the entire staff here, but also the parents and family of alison parker and adam ward who were just out doing their job today. >> i want to bring in a former officer jim cavanaugh and president of roman and associates, a global investigation risk management and security consultation firm. jim, the atf has announced that they are participating in the hunt for the killer. what is it that the atf can participate in and can bring to this investigation? >> well, they bring investigators, jose. fbi, federal law enforcement agencies just really operate as detectives, as investigators. they bring a whole panaplea of strengths. they specialize, too, in explosives and firearms. in this case it would be firearms, but they will be operating with the state police and county detectives to do interviews, root out the killer. of course, federal agencies have a countrywide reach, worldwide reach sometimes so they can help with leads there. it's significant, because the commanders need the manpower. you've got to have a lot of people to identify the guy and then to be able to, you know, apprehend him. so that's all good news that the federal officers are all on their way as well. >> yeah, and both alison and adam ward that had been working at that television station for some time have deep relationships with people in that television station. as a matter of fact, and this just was shared from chris herst. he is one of the anchors at that station. he wrote, we didn't share this publicly but alison parker and i were very much in love. we just moved in together. i am numb. we just celebrated her 24th birthday. she worked with adam every day. they were a team. i'm heartbroke fon for adam's fiancee. she w she is our morning team producer. this is just a tragedy, anthony, that in a very odd way was broadcast on television and someone approached the live broadcast and apparently could have been just a few feet behind the cameraman, adam ward, brought out a gun and shot at least eight times. now the question is, as we're approaching more than three hours and 15 minutes since this occurred on live television, what are police doing and where are they searching and what are they looking for, anthony? >> well, the police are going to be doing multiple things simultaneously. naturally they'll be conducting a forensic investigation right at the scene, interviewing as many witnesses to the shooting as possible, identifying any individuals who may have seen him enter the general area or have interacted with him prior to the shooting or even after the shooting or who may have seen him get into a vehicle or move along an escape route, or whether or not he had any accomplices or any companions with him at the time. so that's the initial phase. simultaneously, they'll also be looking for any video evidence, including the video evidence that the cameraman fortuitously obtained of the assailant. they'll also be looking at surveillance video of the general area, securing that it as evidence and preserving it, and mooving along the chain as evidence develops. also going to the individual's apartment, securing that as a crime scene, getting the bomb squad in there to determine whether or not there are any booby traps. once it's declared safe, they'll be entering, examining hard drives, examining cell phones, getting in touch with the carriers and securing all of the records, looking for any paperwork that's around, and basically trying to determine whether or not there was any relationships between the two deceased parties and the assailant, whether or not the assailant may have had a history of mental illness or a grudge with the station or any of the producers or that particular reporter or any subjects they may have covered. so they'll be looking at his social media, any e-mails he sent and things like that as well. >> and jim and anthony, we have now what appears to be a possible -- the probable or possible gunman. this is, again, not confirmed, but this is a still picture -- we can't right now confirm one way or another who this person is. but this is a still picture taken from the live broadcast that that cbs affiliate was showing to its viewers this morning around 6:45 in the morning. so when the reporter and the cameraman, when these shots ring out, and there were at least eight of them, the camera then, after those eight shots, pans very quickly toward the left and towards the back. and this is a still image captured from the live broadcast. pete williams is with us to join us on this still breaking news out of virginia, moneta, virginia. pete williams, this still picture we can't confirm what it is one way or the other, but it clearly seems to show a man there right behind the camera position. >> reporter: yeah, and let's just explain something here. obviously your television set is horizontal. the reason this picture is vertical and the reason the written material there appears to go sideways is because at this point the camera is on the ground. the cameraman was shot. he's falling to the ground, his camera goes down and it's now lying on its side, so that's why the picture looks odd. and i'm assuming here that what we're looking at is an off the tube picture, because obviously you see the graphics that were on the screen. the video itself is going to be important evidence, because right in the middle, i think this is glare on the tv screen the photographer had. so the authorities will be getting this video and looking at it and analyzing it frame by frame, and they'll get a clearer picture. we're told that you can tell that the person in this picture is wearing black pants and a blue shirt, which is not apparent in the picture that we have, but the fact that there is a frame that shows the gunman's face is extremely important. but there are lots of questions about why this gunman was there at the time. normally speaking, that was -- this all happened at a shopping mall about 25 miles southeast of roanoke, the smith lake mall, and you would wonder why anyone would know that the reporter would be doing a live broadcast at that hour, at that location. alison parker with her cameraman, adam ward, you're seeing in the still pictures. that will be the question as well. the more i look at this picture, the more it's obviously off the tube. if you take our graphics off the bottom of the screen off for just a moment, you'll see glare -- >> let's take the graphics off for a moment. >> you'll see the glare on the screen, so obviously this is an off the tube picture, so the still picture itself, the image itself will be much clearer. the sheriff's office says it doesn't have any suspects at this point. there are federal agencies involved as well. the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms is on the scene. i assume the fbi will be going there as well because of the fact that when you get into television stations, they're licensed by the federal government, so there is a federal interest here, so that would give the federal authorities jurisdiction. and then the question you have to ask as well is, you know, could this be a potential act of terrorism? just to be 100% clear here, we're simply asking the question. we obviously don't know the answer. but it certainly occurred to many of us that for months now, isis and social media has included the news media among the targets that says people should attack in the u.s., including government buildings, law enforcement, the military. so the question at least has to be asked, but this could be a very important piece the evidence, the fact that there is a fleeting image of the gunman. >> i'm so glad you're bringing in your expertise into this, because it clearly is a picture taken from a television that is horizontal but it was made vertical. and you can see by the graphic that says live, which is at the top right there, and the graphics on the left that the local affiliate was having. that thing you see in the middle could be a reflection, as is the bottom part. pete, you know what i'm thinking and i'm just thinking out loud, number one, we don't know if that cameraman was actually filming it or just having a live transmission, so he may not have anything in the camera being filmed at the time. but the other thing is, if that camera was on during that moment which appears to show a gunman, then if that gunman turned around and left, the camera would have probably continued to run at least in the, you know, live truck or back at the station. >> right. well, there is a video recording of it because of the fact that we've seen this video so often now. so the station presumably was recording it. they'll be going through it frame by frame. and this also tends to confirm that the shooting happened from behind the cameraman. his back is to -- when he was holding the camera during the live broadcast, his back would have been to the gunman and the reporter would have been facing the gunman because she would be facing the camera. so he's either coming from an angle or directly behind, and obviously she had no idea he was coming, because when you watch the video there -- actually, now that i think about it, she's facing away from the camera, too, because she's looking at her interview guest. so she's to the side here. >> yep. >> so neither of them clearly saw what was coming. >> yeah, yeah, absolutely. who can think that at 6:45 in the morning when you're doing a live broadcast outside a mall that the person approaching is wishing to do you harm. but the only other thing, pete, i want your thoughts on, 6:45 in the morning local time would be 15 minutes before the national morning show takes part, right? so maybe that was not the first live shot that they were doing from the mall. maybe they had done a number of live shots from the mall in the local morning broadcast which sometimes go from 5:00 to 7:00 in the morning before the national team takes over. so we don't really know if this was the first live broadcast from this team or maybe had done a few of them and, therefore, it would have been known that they were there. >> that's a good point. we just don't know. >> pete, thank you very much. stay with me. i so appreciate you being on with me this morning. joining us now on the phone, curry martin, supervisor in bedford, virginia, he knows vicky gardner. vicky gardner was the woman being interviewed when the shooting occurred. apparently she was injured but did survive. vicky is the lady with the white jacket there on this still grab just moments before the shooting broke out. thank you for being with me. what can you tell me about vicky gardner? >> well, she's very much a pillar in the community as well as a great director for the chamber. she's done so many great things and she's involved with just about everything at the lake. she's very well known throughout not only the lake area but the county and the state. from what i can understand, the conversation started inside the chambers there, and they were talking about it being such a nice day and maybe finishing the interview on the deck of the plaza. it's a three-tier deal, the deck they're standing on there, with the lake in the background which would have made a beautiful, you know, shot for the cast. >> the chamber of commerce is right inside or part of this mall? >> yes, the chamber of commerce is there at that mall. >> and she is a member of the chamber of commerce? >> she heads it. she's the ceo/chairman of it. she coordinates all the events and everything that the chamber does and the businesses. and she has just been so super-excellent at it and it's just a heartbreaking time for the whole community and the death of the couple that lost their lives, its designated for a. this is up usual for this to happen for no reason. you're going to have domestic shootings for a robbery or something, but not for no reason. this wasn't a broadcast event that was even going to happen. it was something to do to promote the 50th anniversary here at the lake, which will be -- 2016 it will be 50 years old, and she has been heading the committee for the stern committee, which i'm on that stern committee also for the lake. >> curran, tell me about that area. you can see on the left part of your screen, here is the general area of the mall where the chamber of commerce is located. talk to me about the area, geographically speaking. is it something people have to get a car to get to, or are there residential areas nearby that people can walk from? >> it's on smith mountain lake. you would be crossing a hails port bridge, and when you leave the bridge you go into franklin county. the plaza is right there on the left as soon as you pass into franklin county. it's not the first thing of the lake, but it was probably one of the first plazas and places that developed and has been well known throughout the years for people to come to. it's just restaurants and gift shops and such as that, and it's never, you know, been no more than basically just a fun place for people to gather. they have a little putt-putt course on top of one of the dunes where you can play 18 holes of putt-putt. it's just a beautiful setting for the area. it is a rural area. it's mostly all farming. we don't have any big industrial units such as a walmart. you have to go probably 20 miles away in either direction of that to get to a big mall such as that. rural people run it. >> i understand the schools have been shut down, there is no school today? >> i wasn't told the schools shut down. i think they're on a lockdown just for protection until the gunman is caught. >> right. and curry, describe -- you were saying it's very rural and it is, however, close to a bridge where if you get out of that area quickly, where would you be, curry? >> well, if you left that area quickly, i mean, you would go -- you would he either have to head back toward bedford, or if you went south on 122, you would go into rocky mountain virginia area. it's not an area that -- i just can't picture anything like this happening here, but it's no setting for it other than the only thing i know you can use -- it's just crazy. there's nothing here. it's just normal living, friendly people that take care of each other. >> curry martin, thank you very much for being with me on this trag tragic. governor terry mckohliffe just moments ago said he believes the gunman was a disgrujdi disgruntled employee. nbc is not able to confirm that one way or another, but that's what the governor said on a radio broadcast just moments ago. we'll take a break and be right back on "the rundown." it's so alison parker and adam ward, the cameraman while they were taking part in a live broadcast at the local cbs station at a local mall, which is also the head of the chamber of commerce. that's where it is based. and as a matter of fact, alison parker was interviewing, from what we understand, the president of the chamber of commerce when this shooting occurred. there you see the two of them just moments before the at least eight shots were fired. on the right part of your screen is one of the final moments captured on video from the camera that the deceased cameraman had during his live broadcast. and as he fell and the camera fell, it captured what appears to be a gunman. there you see this is a screen grab from an actual live broadcast from a television screen. so there you see some reflections in the middle of it as well as on the bottom, at the bottom where our graphics are. but the governor of virginia, terry mcauliffe on a local radio broadcast said, we believe it was a disgruntled employee who shot at them, not an act of terrorism. nbc has not been able to confirm one way or another what the governor said. there are a lot of fast-moving parts to this story. the gunman is still at large. this happened about 6:45 a.m. local time. there you see that screen grab from the final seconds of this live transmission that was being seen at the local area there. this is at bridgewater plaza where the shooting occurred. there you see it. we were just speaking with curry martin who very well knows the area and is part of the chamber of commerce there. he was saying this is a very rural area in gentlemvirginia, beautiful place, the lake celebrating their 50th anniversary next year, so that's what vicky gardner was talking about this morning and during this live broadcast at 6:45 in the morning. cliff van sant is with us still this morning. clint, by now -- and this screen grabbed what appears to show the gunman includes a lot of information. >> well, it's going to be a lot of information just by the picture, the clothing, the possible weapon. there are news reports, i guess, unconfirmed at this time, but the governor, as you say, the governor of virginia has gone on a radio program indicating his belief that the shooter is a former employee of that tv station. i'm aware of another report that suggests that police authorities were in pursuit of this individual, believing to be in a car somewhere on interstate 81 which, you know, runs in that area. so this is a tremendously fast-moving story, but should the governor's report be true, it would be appear again that law enforcement not only knows who the shooter is but knows the vehicle that he's driving in, and they've put out an apb, and hopefully they'll be able to get this guy in custody very soon, if they don't already have him, because we don't have report of that yet. >> right. it is in a very isolated, rural area. as krcurry martin was telling ua short time ago. but you're absolutely right that the governor said their reports are this was a disgruntled former employee of the television station, and to quote the governor's words, we are in pursuit of the suspect. the governor has just said -- i'm sorry, i'm being told as we speak -- go ahead. that the governor has just said an arrest is imminent in this case. so, clint, to bring you back to the issue here of the possibility that the suspect has been sighted and there may be a chase. that was a quote, the governor's words. this could all come down very, very shortly after what has been now more than four hours, almost four hours since the incident took place. >> well, i think the advent of a picture for law enforcement to be able to put this together, as you indicated, this is a very small television station. should this individual's picture be this former employee, somebody in the station would, of course, know that person. they would be able to put two and two together, who he is, why he did it, the vehicle he's in, and then if he is on the run on i-81, all state police and county deputies need is to get enough cars to make this felony stop. you don't want one state trooper trying to stop this guy by himself. but get multiple cars, get this guy off the road and get him in custody before he has the chance to either shoot somebody or hurt somebody with the car that he's driving right now. >> clint van sant, thank you very much. we will continue covering this story. we're going to take a short break and be right back. this is humira helping me reach for more. doctors have been virginia, and cameraman adam ward shot and killed when they were participating in a live shot. on the left you see some video we're just getting into our newsroom and it's just coming out. let's come back to that other second picture which is the one i wanted to show you. this is what appears to be a gunman, and this was captured as a still picture captured from the live broadcast from that local cbs station about 6:45 in the morning. it appears to show a gunman. the camera clearly had fallen on its side. this is a vertical picture taken from the horizontal camera, horizontal television screen. that's why you see the graphics on the left there and the right kind of on their side. but what appears to be a gunman. the governor of virginia has said there is a pursuit. the governor has also said that his information is that this person, the shooter, is a disgruntled former employee of that television station. and here you are watching some video that we're just getting into the msnbc newsroom of this massive search that may right now actually be a situation or chase with the suspect. there is talk of a north i-81 as being the epicenter of what could be the search right now for the gunman. we're also told wdbj, the station where alison parker and adam ward worked in the morning during their broadcast, they're the ones that confirmed the deaths of their two employees, said that adam ward's fiancee, who is a producer at that station, was actually a producer on the morning broadcast and was in the control room when this incident occurred and witnessed what happened. and alison parker, who was a reporter there, had a relationship with the anchor, chris hearst, who had some touching words about her. she just apparently turned 24 years old just very recently. anthony rowan is with us. anthony, right now it does seem as though they are closing in or possibly closing in on the gunman. we have more information coming out from the governor's office. he has been on a local radio station. do we have that? >> apparently he is on 64 right now. the police are right in pursuit and his arrest should be imminent. apparently he's called a friend or something and was distraught, so the latest we've heard is -- >> so on interstate 64. do we know approximately what area there? >> they just said 64, imminent pursuit and should have him in custody. >> do we know who the suspect is? >> he is, we believe, a disgruntled employee. i don't want to release the name or anything, but a disgruntled employee from the tv station. >> pete williams joins me now. a lot more information, pete. it does seem when we're listening to the words of the governor that this situation is coming, hopefully very quickly, in short order to a close on 64. they are in pursuit. they know who the person is, pete. >> reporter: well, they certainly have the name of a suspect, let's put it that way. i think it's the safest way to say. governor terry mcauliffe had a previously scheduled live interview here in washington on the all news station here, wtop. and that's the sound you just heard, is the governor getting updates from his staff. they have a car, specific car that they're in pursuit of. they know the make and model of the car. they have the name of a suspect. they're obviously, from what he said, the fact he's making phone calls, they're obviously making some efforts to monitor his phone calls. so i think that's why the governor says that they know -- they believe -- let me put it this way. in terms of a suspect, they know who that person is, where that person is. now, we've been talking about this still frame . as adam ward, the photographer, was shot, and he falls to the ground, his camera is turned sideways as he falls to the ground, and it captures a fleeting image. and we don't know whether this was the final act of photojournalism of adam ward of capturing the image of who authorities believe fired the fatal shots that killed the photographer and his reporter, or whether the camera just happened to grab these images. i would certainly like to think it was the former, that he was reporting, in essence, doing his job in his final moments. but that's an important piece of evidence. we've always wondered how it is that this person knew to be there, why this person was at a closed shopping mall at a 6:45 a.m. live broadcast. now, what we're showing you is an off the tube or off the screen still picture. the actual video is much clearer because it doesn't have all those reflections that you see, the yellow glare in the bottom and the glare in the middle that obscures part of what is apparently the person who fired these shots holding a handgun, aiming right at the cameraman just moments after the 6 to 8 shots were fired. we're not showing the entire sequence of video, but it's clearly the reporter and the interview person, the person she's interviewing, the head of the local chamber of commerce, did not know that this person was there. or if they did, they weren't concerned about his presence. what the governor has suggested is that the person who fired the shots is a disgruntled former employee, and they say importantly that this is not an act of terrorism, that it's a criminal case, jose. >> and just to take it one step further, disgruntled former employee of the television station, not of the chamber of commerce or the mall. which does make a difference. especially, as you say, there is -- you know, what -- we're kind of speculating here, but if he just came up quickly, there is no way that the cameraman would have even seen him. >> reporter: well, and it's important to note that the cameraman is facing the opposite direction. >> correct. >> reporter: so at the time the cameraman was doing his job putting this interview on the air live, his back is to the scene you're now seeing. from what we believe, this gunman came up from behind the cameraman who is facing toward the reporter and her interview guest at this point. >> yeah, and then, pete, take a look at the final image right before at least those apparently eight gunshots go off. the reporter is focused on the intervi interviewee, the interviewee is speaking to the reporter. they're not even looking at the camera. which means they're not looking towards behind the camera, which is what we're seeing on the right-hand part of our screen. >> reporter: that's right. they apparently didn't know this was coming, didn't know this person was there. but the good news is authorities believe they know who fired the shots. they're pursuing that suspect right now on interstate 64, which is a big east/west highway in virginia. it goes near roanoke. and they believe an arrest is imminent. >> pete williams, thank you very much for staying with me on this story. still a lot more to report. this is fast-breaking news on this tragedy this morning. police in virginia say that virginia state police will hold a news conference this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. eastern time. that's 10:00 a.m. pacific time. we'll be monitoring that for you here on msnbc. we're going to take a short break and be right back. i'm sorta from the chamber of commerce. by the way, wtdj tweeted out that vicky gardner is in surgery right now. she was injured in this attack, this shun ggunshot, at least ei them, that were captured on tape. on the right side of the screen, those are adam ward's final images. as the camera dropped by his side, it shows what appears to be a gunman. it's a still picture taken off a television screen with either a phone or some kind of camera, so the television screen would be horizontal. this is the picture put vertical so you can see the legs and what appears to be a gun in the hand of what appears to be a gunman, and these would be the last images that adam ward was able to capture this morning about 6:45 in the morning. anthony rowan is with me and the governor of virginia. anthony was saying this is apparently, according to the governor, a disgruntled former employee of the television station. he says that officials are in pursuit with a suspect around -- on 64, that the person had apparently called a friend and is very troubled. a former employee of the television station. it could be, anthony roman, that this situation assuredly is finalized with the capture of this suspect. >> well, that would be very good news. my staff is reporting to me as we speak that the police have helicopters, they understand exactly where the suspect is, they have contained him, and hopefully they could bring this to an end through negotiations very, very shortly. but, you know, jose, the governor's statements bring to mind the responsibility that businesses have with regard to background investigations for employees, understanding employees who may be suffering from mental illness, providing the right avenues of mental health that may be available to them, because it really calls into mind the responsibility that companies and corporations and the news media has with regard to understanding who their staff is, understanding what their problems are, and making an effort ahead of time to manage these problems and provide the type of assistance a staff member can have and to understand their backgrounds in depth including, if permissible by law, a medical history and that kind of information. >> the station is a small station. the cbs affiliate there. apparently alison parker and adam ward were covering the upcoming 50th anniversary of the lake and interviewing vicky gardner from the local chamber of commerce. there you see a shot of the area there. and right behind ms. gardner, you see a sliver of what is the lake. so they were talking about it. as a matter of fact, i was speaking to curry martin who knows very well the area, and is part of the chamber of commerce, and he said initially that live shot began inside the chamber of commerce, but then they said, hey, let's take this discussion outside since it's a beautiful morning this morning. so this live shot, which was going on, anthony, eight shots ring out live on television. it's just inconceivable that this would be happening, especially it's a part of the country that curry was saying is extraordinarily rural and calm and peaceful, and so something like this to happen is just inconceivable. >> you know, jose, and it's happening more and more often with greater frequency, greater intensity, and more and more people are being injured and killed as a result of a shooting. simultaneously, while this incident was going on, there is an incident, i believe, in west virginia in which a 14-year-old boy was holding his teacher and classmates hostage at gunpoint. and that was successfully resolved by hostage negotiators, i'm happy to say. but it seems like every week we're reporting on another shooting in a rural area or in a quiet neighborhood ordinarily where we wouldn't expect that to be happening. so it really brings to mind the question of political action and perhaps outrage by the citizens of this country. >> we've confirmed a 1:00 p.m. news conference as police hunt for the suspects who killed these local cbs affiliate reporter and photographer in the area of moneta, virginia. 1:00 p.m. eastern time, police news conference. we are going to go to a short break as authorities seem to be closer and closer to maybe an arrest may be imminent. as we go to break, i want to take you to the moments earlier this morning, around 7:00 in the morning, when the station wdbj made the announcement as they were confirmed that their two employees had, indeed, died. >> it is my very, very sad duty to report that we have determined, through the help of the police and our own employees, that alison and adam died this morning shortly after 6:45 when the shots rang out. we do not know the motive. we do not know who the suspect or who the killer is. we do know that the franklin county sheriff, i just got off the phone with franklin county sheriff overton, i just got off the phone before that with the state police, they are working very diligently to track and a cameraman, shot to death this morning around the moneta, virginia area while they were taking part in a live broadcast on the local news program about 6:45 in the morning. there you see the mouth of the bridgewater plaza area, and on the right sida a screen grab of a picture of the last moments that were captured on the camera that the cameraman filmed as he fell, and the camera fell to the ground. and on the left is just moments before the at least eight gunshots rang out when the reporter was interviewing a local chamber of commerce representative, and she survived, but alison parker and adam ward did not. adam ward -- and there you see some of the pictures we're sharing with you -- the anchor from the news station, chris herst, has been tweeting and on facebook putting out fiancee was a producer on the morning broadcast. and what we are told, and this comes from the actual wdbj information that they have been sharing with their audience all morning long, adam was to be married in the near future with his fiancee who was the producer at the morning broadcast. the producer was apparently in the control room at 6:45 this morning when the gunshots were heard, and this last scene was seen throughout the area where this station transmits. so she was witnessing what was happening on the air. and apparently it was a festive mood this morning in that television station because that producer, the fiancee of adam ward, this was her last day. she had gotten a new job, so she was going to be moving on, and she and adam were planning to actually physically move. and the party had been prepared for the going away of the fiancee. adam ward was to follow her. she was moving on, so it was a party in waiting as she witnessed this horrible, tragic situation unfold in front of her eyes at that control room. and the anchor, chris hurst, sharing also moments ago that even though they hadn't shared it publicly, they were very much in love, and we wanted to get married. we
