Centcom, bake sales or whatever. They do not contain any classified information whatsoever and the official record is that as far as anybody knows, there was no classified information that was compromised. In fact according to one official, this is very embarrassing. But apparently no security threat, at least for the time being as far as we know. Now centcom has taken down the site. Who knows if they will get it up any time soon but they do say that they have the situation for the time being under control, joy. Thank you very much. And joining us now is michael mcnair. Mikey, what are we talking about in terms of going after the social media accounts of Central Command. What is the message here and the purpose . I think as it was pointed out, it was embarrassing but we have to know the compromising media accounts isnt as important. They are responsible for the strategy operations of significant campaigns around the world, including afghanistan. Sow can imagine the data and the intelligence and the communication and the information throughput from cent com out to the reaches of the united emirates which is where the afghanistan operation is run from. There will be information on those transmitters being to and forth, but social media will not contain that sensitive information. But it is embarrassing. It is a message. It is a way of the isis sympathizers, saying a message if you like. What is interesting, there are believed to be reports that this group are posting various sorts of information online. The classification of that information is yet to be known. But lets hope it is nothing more than unclassified. Michael, thank you very much. We appreciate it. And this come as president obama in washington stressed the need for better Cyber Security when it comes to hacking attacks an identity theft. If we are going to be connected, then we feed to be protected. As americans we shouldnt have to forfeit our basic privacy when we go online to do our business. And well continue to follow this breaking news story and bring you updates as we get them. Meanwhile, in paris, after last weeks terrorist attacks that left a total of 17 people dead, french Officials Say that the threat is still present. Here is the latest. Today the first wave of some 10,000 commit and military troops are being deployed into the streets of transto protect what officials are calling sensitive sites after three days of bloodshed last week. Right now police are still hunting for possible accomplices, including this woman, hayat, boumedienne, who participated in the attacks with her common law husband. And four victims attacked on friday have began their journey to israel. There will be a Funeral Service tomorrow. Netanyahu was among several World Leaders who converged on the french capital joining in with those who marched in unit against the threat of terrorism. Ron allen is live in paris. What is the mood in paris today and how visible is this hyped up security . Reporter well a little while ago, joy, i heard a bunch of sirens around the plaza here in the center of paris where we are. And over in that direction, there was a police operation, about a dozen officers stopping a man and questioning him. And now whether that is related to this new security stepup or not, i dont know. But i can tell you that being here in the middle of town for several days now, there has been a lot of police activity. They are concerned about trying to stop anything else that might be about to happen and people are on edge. There is some anxiety but it is a lot calmer here now than it was three or four days ago right after the attacks when there were still gunman at large and before the awful hostage situations that ended up in carnage and death. People are going to see more police on the streets. In the metro and subway and outside of sites like public buildings and tourist destinations and that is new for the people of france because in a society where people value their freedom and liberty and that is why so many people came out to the streets the other day and seen the attack on the newspaper as an attack on freedom of expression and basic liberties here. Civil liberties may be coming in the recent months and years because the Security Services here have to do Something Else to try and track the islamic radicals here as part of the society. That is one of the big problems here. That was exposed by these attacks. These were homegrown terrorists. They were people known to authorities but somehow there was an intelligent failure of some sort that let them slip through the cracks. A lot of attention will be focused on the Jewish Community. Well see, authorities say, more security at jewish schools and synagogues. Last year by some accounts there were as many as 7,000 jewish citizens of france who left to go back to israel and that is double the number of the Previous Year because of antisemitic attacks happening here, let alone what happened here a few days ago. So the Jewish Community feels under threat. People say that going out of their homes and going to school and businesses are acts of courage now and we would expect that there will be more people leaving in the weeks and months to come. And there have been meetings here to facilitate that that might be stepped up. On the other side of the equation the Muslim Community seems under siege. About 4. 5 million, 7 of the population the muslim communities feel under siege with attacks, threats, harassments and graffiti since the attacks on the magazine of the so that dynamic here also unfolding as france moves forward. Joy, back to you. Nbcs ron allen live in paris. Thank you. And coming up we will talk about why the white house now says it was a mistake not to send someone more highprofile to this weekends march in paris. Lets get a reid alort out of new mexico where two Albuquerque Police officers will face murder charges in the shooting death of a homeless man last march. Amanda joins us with more on the case. Tell bus this case. This is a very visceral case that came out of albuquerque, because we have the video to see how the officers handled the situation. The video was provided from an officers helmet camera where we see 38 jeermd jerome floyd who was homeless and he was in a standoff with police that lasted for hours and he is holding a knife and just when he is turning his back to them is when they open fire. They fired off a total of six shots on him. And in the video, after he falls to the ground, is when you see the police sick their police dog on him it. Was a visceral case that caused protests in albuquerque and puts into context where the shootings over Michael Browns death sparked a nerve with the public. The department of justice was already investigating the Albuquerque Police and a month after this shooting they issued a scathing report after a 16month long investigation finding they did use Excessive Force and even fatal force when not called for. Now the department is already seeking to bring in different reforms. But this is finally a bright light for those who seem kind of downtrodden on the idea that police are held accountable in these shootings. We have the prosecutors seeking an open murder charge which means they can get first or seconddegree murder charges against them and this comes after the grand jury decisions in both Michael Brown and eric garners case where we saw the grand juries decided not to bring any type of charges against the Police Officers responsible. So this is a now welcome start for policing reform. A very rare indictment of police. Well definitely be following to see how this case unfolds. Msnbc amanda sec yuma. Thank you very much. And later, the search for the suspected accomplice for the attacks in france and what we know about her. Plus more ahead on the social media hack of u. S. Central command. Why do i cook . Because i make the best chicken noodle soup. Because i make the best chicken noodle soup. Because i make the best chicken noodle soup. Alright, so this tylenol arthritis lasts 8 hours, but aleve can last 12 hours. And aleve is proven to work better on pain than tylenol arthritis. So why am i still thinking about this . How are you . Aleve, proven better on pain. Welcome back. While paris officials search for possible accomplices in the paris terrorist attacks, there are new clues about the whereabouts of Hayat Boumeddiene, the common law wife of the man who killed people at the kosher store in paris. It is believed she crossed into syria on thursday the day her husband allegedly shot a person to death. She is seen at the passenger control airport upon her arrival to turkey. From flash point global partners, leith, what do we know about Hayat Boumeddiene. Her name and image has been circulated around the world, here in the west and the middle east. Everybody is looking for her. Where is Hayat Boumeddiene . We have had conflicting reports from the turkish authorities. They are saying she already cossed into turkey and from there, she lost surveillance of her after she crossed out of turkey on her way, likely to syria. Now again, we cannot confirm her location being in syria. But if indeed, she arrived in syria, she will likely have a great welcome by a number of jihadi groups there. We know her common law husband Amedy Coulibaly carried out gruesome attacks in paris and later a video circulated of him online pledging allegiance to the Islamic State. So if she was his common law wife and she is in syria she will likely be hosted by people who likely are connected to the Islamic State or other radical factions there. And do we know leith, if Hayat Boumeddiene grew up muslim. There are pictures showing her hanging out with her common law husband wearing a bikini and over into full islamic dress with only the eyes showing. So you have the range in terms of her own social media of herself. Is she a convert . Do we know about her past life before being involved in this incident . She could have been muslim by name not a practitioner. But again, there has been cases where a number of females after they become radicalized after marrying or becoming acquainted with a radical, they immediately go into the alter religious and life and it appears Hayat Boumeddiene has followed that as a result likely as an influence from her common law husband Amedy Coulibaly. Thank you very much leith. Stick around because well talk about the global terrorist threat and including an attack by boko haram in nigeria. And now the white house said it was a mistake not to send someone to the rally in paris. There was questioned why secretary of state john kerry or eric holder who was in paris, didnt participate. White House Press Secretary josh earnest did talk about it moments ago. Some have asked whether or not the United States should have sent someone with a higher profile than the ambassador to france. And i think it is fair to say we should have sent someone with a higher profile to be there. And p. J. Crowley is a former assist secretary of state and now at the George Washington university. Thank you for being here. Thank you, joy. And put yourself in the mind of the house or state department as to why they wouldnt want to send a higher delegation or even the president himself to be part of the patina of those marching in paris. I think given the dramatic pictures and pictures we saw in paris and there should have been a picture of a leader from the u. S. Marching dramatically through the streets of the paris. I would add the Vice President to your list. There were four separate decisions here. For the president , it is difficult for the secret service to put together a spur of the moment trip of this nature. The secretary of state is in india preparing for president ial travel later this month. Eric holder was in paris and could have participated but he was not necessarily going to be in that picture being a cabinet official. To me the one that is a mystery is why we didnt send the Vice President to paris to be a part of this. That would have seemed to be the most logical. Lets talk about the other leaders that were there because there were political and National Implications and calculations by all of the leaders that decided to attend. Lets talk about israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, who did attend. There were reports that the french leader did not initially want him to attend because they didnt want to include the palestinian issue in the situation. Let me read a piece i think by reuters. The Prime Ministers Office confirmed that france was opposed to the idea of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attending the historic march in paris, believing it would be divisive as described. And that was in the times, not reuters. And Benjamin Netanyahu who is also up for reelection has some political implications does it not. Of course. You have in the same picture netanyahu and abbas, who have done business together and dont like each other very much and this occurs in the midst of a very significant political struggle over palestinian initiatives in the united nations. But also you have a gesture by the Russian Foreign minister and the ukrainian leader to be seen together. And i think that is that is one of the larger messages coming out of paris. And i think this is one of the reasons it was so powerful. And there is also there are always two sides to any picture and people see them in different ways through their own lenses and i noticed on social media there was a critique of the leaders that did stand there together critiques of their own history of free speech. Ill show you this cartoon circulating on social media that goes through point by point of the leaders on the front lines and the issues in their own countries and the Washington Post had an interesting report about hipypocrisyhypocrisy. It said despite the laudable show of unity, at home they stifle that very same free speech. So in a sense, did this picture of unity have a bit of a tark side when it comes to the activities within those own countries . Well i do think that it is appropriate for leaders to be seen as part of this and i think it is appropriate for a variety of countries to to condemn the violence that we saw tragically last week in paris. There is a broad need for a debate here. Particularly a debate within the islamic world and that is one of the questions going forward. We saw a dramatic display of unity, support for freedom of expression and a debate to try to delegitimize the religious justification for the violence that we saw last week. The real question is is that going to be joined in the islamic world. And one of those ironies is that on the same day that the french authorities moved against the perpetrators of these episodes you had a flogging in saudi arabia where a blogger trying to promote the very debate that is needed within the muslim world, hes given the first of 1,000 lashes. Hes been thrown in jail for ten years. And so you do have countries that are stifling the debate when in fact the message coming out of paris is you dont fight ideas with bullets, you fight ideas with more ideas. Indeed. A lot of ironies there. P. J. Crowley, thank you for being here. My pleasure. And stay with the the reid report as we continue to follow the hack of Central Command. And well discuss the vulnerabilities that allowed that attack. I sure hope so. With healthcare costs, who knows. Umm. Everyone has retirement questions. Make it progresso or make it yourself is this something that were obviously looking into and something we take seriously. But just a note of caution to folks as they are covering this story, there is a significant difference between what is a a large data breach and the hacking of a twitter account. That was white House Press Secretary josh earnest talking about the hacking of sentcom twitter and you tube accounts that happened hours ago. Joining me now is Michael Reilly from blockberg news. And thank you for being here michael. You bet. Lets pick up on the point josh earnest just made. Talk about the levels of security tended to social media sites like twitter and you tube versus the more harden Computer Systems that the government operates. We dont know how deep this goes. There is probably some sort of Security Breach the way you hack a account is you get malware on a phone or computer of someone who has the credentials, the user name and pass ward for centcom. There could be a p. A. Person or someone responsible of filing tweets to that account. If you get malware to get the password, you sign on as them. That is if all likelihood what happened here. That means their on a phone or computer but that doesnt mean they are deeper into the network and doesnt mean they have access to any kind of classified information which is kept usually in a much more secure network. He havent said how far this goes but they said it is a twitter account. But to get to the twitter account, you have to get on somebodys phone or computer. So there is a Security Breach associated with it. Exactly. And i think what people are familiar with now, is hacking into large data systems, like Credit Card Companies and Big Box Stores who have periodic attacks on their systems. You just made the point we dont know how deep this goes. Is it possible once someone gets the kind of software that can get them into the twitter or you tube account, they can use that same methodology to get into the actual data . Absolutely. The hackers goal is to go from a computer phone on to the network. And then you do have access to the network and it is a matter of whether you can make the jumps to go deeper in. And with the u. S. Government and with the department of defense that network holds a lot of unclassified information. It is an entirely Different Network that will hold classified information. Making that leap is a much harder deal and there is no indication they did that. The hackers did post some documents on both the twitter feed and in a couple of accounts but you cant tell from the domes whether they documents whether they came at all. And whether they came from the government or where. And is it more psychological to frighten americans to believe they do have access to more data or is that in investigating it they do have that access . It could work on both ways. And there is a psychological thing and you can send out tweets and they had warnings u. S. Soldier we are in your networks, we are coming for you. Those are the kind of things that are designed as psychological elements. So there is a psychological component to it and it is an embarrassment for any element of the pentagon, specially cent com and anything in that region to get hacked on a minor level is an embarrassment. And there is the next piece that you alluded to right now the i. T. Guys are trying to figure out, how far did the breach go and did they jump from one computer to another and that is what they are trying to figure out now. Michael reilly hope youll come back. Appreciate it. Coming up more on the global war on terrorism. And another deadly attack by boko haram in nigeria. The conference call. The ultimate arena for business. Security has been hielgtenned heightened outside of high priority sites, including jewish schools and some 10,000 troops have fanned out across the country. Today secretary of state john kerry announced he will visit paris on thursday to show his support for the country. And weve learned from our nbc new york affiliate that nine nypd officers are expected to travel to france to attend the funerals of the officers killed in last weeks attacks. And surviving Staff Members of Charlie Hebdo are putting final notes on the edition that is to be released. We spoke to one of the journalists who reiterated the staffs determination to carry on. I think they want to say, no pat matter what you do you wont kill us. You wont skill the spirit of liberty, you wont kill the spirit of blasphemy. And the war on terrorism is more on what is just happening in europe and the u. S. Chuck todd asked about the war on terrorism to eric holder. I would say we are at war with terrorist who commit these heinous attacks and use a corrupted version of islam to justify their actions. We are bound and determined to hold them accountable and to find them wherever they are. Which brings us to nigeria where the guardian reports hundreds of bodies too many to count, remain strewn in the bush from an islamic extremist attack that Amnesty International has been described as the biggest disaster in the history of bocko har om. And lathe from goble partners is with us. And you talk about the groups that use a corrupted form of islam to wage terrorist attacks that describe boko haram. So they have had this horrifying attack in nigeria, but they are not isis. They are in one country, in one region, why didnt the Nigerian Government stop them . Well, first of all, it is not only it is not only stationed in nigeria, but ingrain pd in the communities. They know the ins and outs of the country and they are in areas hard to reach by reporters and hard to reach by a full army. And they are covered by jungles in the border of cameroon and it is hard for aerial surveillance to take place in the areas. The second part is they view themselves as part of the faith. They are that extreme that they announce nigeria as a province in this faith and headed by a gangster look alike who heads boko haram. They terrorize the population so they dont try to come up again them. And they recruit. And is boko haram related to isis or al qaeda. Isis fighters believe that boko haram is part of their faith. They call it the callive ate province in nigeria. Their branch in nigeria. And there has been no alliance to albaghdadi but he did acknowledge him in one of the videos and he put a quote from albaghdadi in one of the videos. So they have a harmonious collection and they share the same methodology in terrorizing the population and recruiting from those individuals. Are we seeing the isolation or marginalization of al qaeda which was the boogie man when it came to terrorism after 9 11 but seems to be less violent than some of the groups that are embedding themselves in populations and declaring themselves a callive ate or a state. I think al qaeda has a lot to catch up with. Al qaeda has been their operations they were put on hold. They havent caused an obstacle with a spectacle with a big boom but isis took advantage of this laxity and went and preached around the middle east specifically in syria and iraq recruiting from all around the world, about 70 countries and including those communities in syria and iraq and by declaring the calleiphatecaliphate, among many muslims around the world, it was able to attract more. And where it is seen as this al qaeda is seen as not having an troll and not able to confront the west over a decade. I home you will come back. I want to get into this Nigerian Government. They have a large powerful army and they should be able to do that. But im not in nigeria. But thank you. And three things to know on this monday. Youre looking at live pictures of the white house where president obama is welcoming the 2014 nba champion san antonio spurs. No problem, bring it. They won their fifth championship over the miami heat. You can watch the ceremony if you are into that thing live on msnbc. Com. Meanwhile, hollywoods biggest stars came out for congratulations, spurs for the Golden Globes last night. But what was night a fun, tackling serious subjects. Tina fey and amy pohler marked by the cyber attack and the hosts took on another controversial topic, bill cosby. And into the woods, cinderella runs from her prince rapunzel is thrown from a tower and Sleeping Beauty thought she was getting coffee with bill cosby. And joining me the last track that you heard, off camera as i was atemming to throw attempting to slow shade at the spurs. So we have to sart with margaret cho, one of the most uncomfortable moments in a while. I found it uncomfortable. But lets see what people think about her portrayal of a north korean general. In north korea, we know how to put on a show. This is not a show. No. You no have a thousand babies playing guitar at the same time. You no have People Holding up one big picture. You no have dennis rodman. No basketball at all. Right. Someone dropped the ball on rodman. Well get on that. Is Political Correctness the reason for my anxiety around watching that. What did you make of that . Perhaps p. C. Is the reason for your anxiety. I thought it was hysterical. And i thought the joke kept going over and over. I think the over the line biting nature of it responds to hollywoods sheer anger, the Creative Community and anger at kim jongun and imposing censorship on hollywood. And i thought it was funny. They were more than pushing the envelope, they were jumping off the envelope. And sometimes you have to break eggs to make good comedy joy. I like that. And we are talking about Charlie Hebdo and how far you can go with satire before crossing the line into offense and the aspect of what you might call the aspect. But marg row cho said im of mixed north korean decent and you brain wash my people and get attacked by me. She is using this portrayal to make it so ugly and so mean. I laughed. I understand folks getting upset. Weve seen between the interview and charle a hebdo, people pushing the line when they are angry at the target. I have no problem with that there. And what about visible gasps, the volks about bill cosby. And this is the Creative Community, his own community, is that what makes it more biting . They werent really doing jokes at that point. They were just freeswinging jabs at bill cosby, and the stuff wasnt even that funny, but just the mean things we could think of to say about bill cosby. I dont think those jokes are controversial because i think a lot of people feel the same way toward him, anger and disgust toward him. Yeah there were gasps in the room but in the larger room of america, folks are like it is free it is a free field on bill cosby. Can you say anything you you can say anything you want about him. And when he is coming out and making jokes about it that is making it a free for all. And i must note that bill cosby has not come out and denied the charges. But wir not in a we are not in a court of law. In a court of law you are innocent until proven guilty, but not in the court of public person opinion. And real quickly. There was a report that selma only received an award for the gospel music. The Golden Globes are about 200 people the Hollywood Foreign press, they might not have the civil rights that you and i have. But they loved the song. Wait until the oscars. The movie selma is about the American Civil Rights movement that totally worked and now everything is fine. [ laughter ] [ applause ] that was tina fey and amy pohler. They did a great job last night. The host of last nights Golden Globe Awards talking about the movie selma. Now it was up for four awards the movie took home one trophy at ward for best original song. But while the movie describes the iconic march on selma years ago, it does beg the question is the fight for Voting Rights over in selma or nationwide. Congresswoman terry seoul the first africanamerican woman elected to congress from alabama, a native of selma and represents the city in the house. Thank you for being here congresswoman. Thank you. Joy, this is an opportunity to talk about my home town. And your city got some free screenings in town and im sure your city is excited about it. What do you make from the controversial of whether Lyndon Johnson or the marchers were portrayed. I was home this weekend and saw the movie with my family and the Lyndon Johnson and king relationship is blown out of proportion. This is not a documentary, it is a movie. It is the interpretation of a director and a screen writer and i have to say, as a member of congress and a politician we only do those things that folks make us do and the reality is that the alliance between lbj and king was tenuous at best but at the end of the day, the result was the voter rights act. And so i just think that a lot has been made about it and i dont think that it affects the ability and the strength of the movie. And not to mention, allowing the story to be told of the africanamericans in selma and the people fighting for their own liberation. Not a bad thing at all. Exactly. Lets talk about the current state of Voting Rights in alabama, in selma. Do you think that weve progressed to the point whereas the Supreme Court has said we no longer need such things as section four and five of the Voting Rights act. No we havent. Look i think that out of the tragedy that happened in selma, the painful past came a movement that changed the nation and ultimately changed globally human right and for that we if selma and in alabama need to embrace our past. Having said that progress has been made. Selma is currently on its second africanamerican mayor. I represent selma in congress. But we still have miles to go before we sleep. I think that the reality is that the progress is always illusive and we must be ever vigilant in trying to get the Voting Rights Amendment Act passed from congress. My hope is that people will go to the movie selma and see the movie and feel recommitted and rededicate their lives to the fight for civil and Voting Rights. It is not over yet. And you are now in congress where you have one of 435 votes in that body. Do you foresee, just having your initial talks and discussions with members in your own party and also on the other side of the aisle, is there a chance to the fix of the Voting Rights going through the house, in your opinion .
