Law enforcement officials worry by publicly discussing the plan trump has undermined the chances as it likely pushed those with deportation orders underground. If trump is under cutting the success of its own operation by advancing it, it is probably safe to say announcing the operation is more important than carrying it out. That is kind of a pattern with this president. He announced he was cutting off federal emergency aide to california because he was convinced the state was doing something wrong. It was a major applause line you may have noticed there was no new tax cut plan. He likes to say the border wall is being built or has been built. One time they even put up a flack on replacement fencing that had been ordered by the Obama Administration and called it the trumps wall. It created this strange dynamic in which they all have to be gauging what if any what trump says. Last year, the nt noted, quote, it was unclear whether the president s tweets represented any change or were just the sort of venting hes known to do after reading a newspaper article or seeing a television program. The same year when trump announced he was delaying an agreement with south korea, he said one asked him, quote, were the president s comment about holding the new trade deal, was that real or was he just ad libbing . It is nearly impossible to believe it went down as the president described it today. The president is saying, that half an hour before the planes were to take off, to launch a carefully planned missile strike, he asked the generals the question, and they said, we are not sure. Let us get back to you. If that happened, that would be a scandal unto itself. Ryan goodman suggested it would likely be illegal to approve an operation without knowing the estimated casualties it would have caused. There are multiple sources contradicting the version of events. The times reporting planes were in the air. Washington post reporting that in fact the president was informed of the number of estimated casualties earlier in the day when he approved the strike. The president being unreliable narrator makes it difficult to understand what is happening here. Was there actually a strike ordered and called off at the last minute. Why did that happen . Who decided it would be good for all of us to know that that happened . Much of the information we are getting may be various factions trying to box the president into a particular course of action. If it is top pentagon officials who are the primary voice against escalation with iran, then this is probably a particularly bad time for one acting defense chief to be handing off to another acting defense chief.
