Keystone, they can have a vote on keystone. Thats not good enough for them. Its simple decision. You think the Keystone Pipeline is complex . Time to stop studying, start building. Good to have you with us tonight, folks. Thanks for watching. Ever wondered what the Republican Partys position on Climate Change is . Let me give it to you quickly, facts dont matter. Ever wonder what its leak in a Republican Caucus luncheon on the famous tuesdays, week after week . This didnt work, this didnt work, this didnt work, we better try this. Thats where they are right now, republicans cant get traction on anything. Even with big oil on their side. Now all week long they have been trying to get a keystone xl pipeline vote, that has failed as well. Harry reid refused, and he used a parliamentary maneuver to block republicans who wanted to sneak a keystone measure into the energy bill. Okay, here we are. Lets try anything we can. Reid suggested an up or down vote with a promise for a separate vote on the keystone xl later on. They didnt buy that. What republicans are constantly trying to come up with some new form of hostage taking time after time. But out of material at this point. Theyve tried to jam the Keystone Pipeline through the back door of the energy bill and again they have failed there. Republicans senator Mitch Mcconnell went on the defensive saying that reid was stifling the voice of the American People by refusing to allow amendments to the energy bill. Even if Senate Democrats would rather pander to far left and shut down debate, republicans are going to keep fighting for the middle class. Stifling voices, think about that. The republicans, their leader, Mitch Mcconnell trying to say democrats are stifling voices. But John Boehners not doing that in the house when it comes to an up or down vote on minimum wage, on unemployment extension or Climate Change or Immigration Reform . Whos stifling who . Mitch, who you kid, come on. The only ones pandering are republicans. And theyre panderring to big oil and big oil lobbyists, theyre working hard these days. Keystone thing is getting tough. A symbolic vote, they couldnt get that. Republicans couldnt get 60 vote needed to approve a standalone bill on keystone but claim everybody in the country wants it. Well the guy to watch is north dakota senator john hoeben, safe as anybody in the senate. He couldnt deliver the mail. Some of the richest operate in oklahoma and hes the legislative quarterback. The threeterm governor let the oil company dozen whatever they want, just go get the oil. He now carries the torch in the senate. He expressed his opinion on the keystone xl last week. The decision that the president needs to make is a simple decision, is this pipeline project in the interests of the United States or is it not . Is it in the interest and this is after his state Department Said there is no significant Environmental Impact created by the project, not once, not twice, but four times. So its a simple decision. Simple. Everything is just so simple. Just say yes to big oil, yes to big profits for those who want to tear down our democracy, and dont worry at all about the aquifer because this is never going to leak. Its so simple. You see, everything has changed since the National Climate assessment has been released. You know that report that came out of the white house where it took three years and 300 of the best scientists in this country to study exactly where we are when it comes to Climate Change in this country. We just cant have any more come out of the ground right now. But its just so easy. Hes taking absolutely no risk by doing the Oil Companies bidding again and pushing for passage for keystone. But he couldnt deliver, bottom line. Pandering to big oil isnt the only thing republicans are doing of late. Also pointing fingers looking for somebody to blame. Their latest target, here we go, tom stire. Starting running this ad in colorado. Pipeline delays a victory for tom but a slap in the face for American Workers call mark udall, put colorado ahead of his billionaire backer and support the Keystone Pipeline. If this is a slam dunk why is big oil spending so much convincing you this is right thing to do. Its activism, activists in colorado on the front line pushing back on the oil and gas industry. You know what, its working. Local communities are working to pass antifracking legislation, conservatives, oh, they dont like that. Colorado democratic congressman jared polis the target of name calling and threats on twitter for his stance against big oil. To break it down, first of all, i say, the facts just dont matter to the in fact, theyll even try to convince you that the democrats are the ones who are trying to stifle voices. Yet we just cant seem to get any votes on job packages or helping unemployed or minimum wage or Immigration Reform. Theres no such thing as an up or down vote when the democrats want it. Now what we have is a real problem, all of a sudden this keystone xl pipeline is big trouble for the republicans because they cant even get a simple vote, they cant get the 60 votes in the senate this is supposed to be their baby. Now one more thing, about this jobs thing, notice since the National Climate assessment has come out, all of this legislative wrangling has taken place with t republicans, theyre trying to jam this in on the energy bill and none of them are talking about jobs. You know, you see charts when the republicans talk about keystone xl but they dont give me any job charts. Isnt that what americas concerned about right now, building, rebuilding, and making our economy better . Tell me, republicans, maybe you, senator hoeven, sense youre an Economic Development guru, how many jobs will the keystone xl pipeline create . How many . For how long . Its not brain surgery. Given plea a number. S show me a chart of jobs that keystones going to bring to america. You cant do it because numbers dont exist. Remember, few and short term, thats the job assessment for this pipeline. Anybody that tells you anything different is totally wrong. The next thing the National Climate assessment, theyre going to tell you that doesnt matter. Have you seen republicans come out and say you know this has got some merit we need to think about Climate Change . No. Because facts dont matter. Thats their Climate Change policy. There is no policy. Facts dont matter. Get your cell phones out. I want to know what you think. Will republicans ever accept defeat on the Keystone Pipeline . 67622, go to our blog, well bring you results later on in the show . Talk colorado tonight and the tracking going on out there. Congressman jared polis joins us tonight. Appreciate your time. Way to stand up to big oil and question exactly what theyre doing. Since you have been so aggressive, congressman, what kind of communication are you getting from constituents and the public . All encouragement. Four of the five biggest towns in my districts banned practicing and i argue thats their right if a town or Community Wants to have it, done want to have it, im all for it. I dont weigh in if i dont live there what they want to do but i think its everybodys right to determine land use and zoning in their communities. Congressman, do you think the momentum on keystone is starting to shift . You know i think it just might be. I think that people are starting to realize that, as we chart our path to renewable energy, the more that is wasted on legacy and old and antiquated technologies only ties us oil and gas longer. Theres a reason that the oil and gas industrys gotten a bad name in some areas included in my state. Infringing on everybodys else right, rather than being happy with fracking where theyre welcome to do it and people want them to do it theyre reducing Property Value by 10 , 15 , hazardous spills occurring hundreds of times a year in colorado. When that get naz residential areas, people get worried and upset. The republicans in your state have been in denial. Ryan call, chairman of the colorado republican committee, posted on twitter saying, we shouldnt negotiate with terrorists. The tweet has been taken down. Whats your response to that . He was referring to me, believe it or not, ed. Somehow the Republican Party chair considers me a terrorist for trying to protect homeowners and communities from having practice fracking too close to homes. I dont gather the logic at all. It shows, like youre saying all along, these guys have drank cool laid or so reliant on the money, its overcome their sensibilities. Well that feeailing on all fronts and losing momentum. They couldnt get the vote in the senate on keystone xl. What about that . A stanalone vote, they claim the majority of americans polling out there, everybody wants keystone xl, why cant they come up with 60 votes in the senate to take a position statement and absolute position on who wants what on keystone . You know what, ed . Lets trade them a vote. If they agree to hold a vote on Immigration Reform and minimum wage and the house . I will personally call harry reid and encourage him to hold a direct vote in the senate. If thats how this stuff gets done in the town, lets get Immigration Reform done, minimum wage down. I like it. Jared polsi, good to have you on the ed show. Lets me bring in mike. Good to have you with us. This is the second time republicans insisted on amendment votes when they realized its simply not going to work. Is this falling apart for them . Is all of the big money that big oils thrown at this, is this starting to unravel . Harry reids making it fall apart. Good for harry. We see that fighter side of harry reid. But the xl pipeline issue is giving us a clear picture of how disgusting and dirty the world inside the beltway with politics has become. One side, youve got whinny, colicky Republicans Holding up things like the minimum wage that millions of americans are counting on. Republicans are also use pipeline to attack billionaire progressives like tom stire. He wants to tell the truth about Climate Change, spending 100 million to educate the American Public that Climate Change is going to kill their grandchildren if they dont do something about it. So, on the other side, theres another part 0tothis, it has to be talked about, you have the white house who has to use the pipeline to attract Democratic Campaign money from energy industry. Like it or not, that has to happen. Thats the place obamas put in. If he commits, thats what the delay is about if he commits now he runs the risk of not attracting those people saying, maybe we have a chance with the democrats so he has to delay this thing. Add to that the number of both republicans and democrats who are out and out lying, as you pointed out. We know the number, ed. The number by the state department is that its going to create 35 new jobs. Thats after the republicans told its, forever, that it was going to be 2,000 jobs. So these i want a chart on the senate floor. I want to see the chart on the senate floor, the big 35 number. I want to see that big 35 number. Heres whats happening, as i see it, mike. This National Climate assessment causes real problems for the pipeline vote. Yeah. Its almost you either believe this or you dont. And if you dont go along with the National Climate assessment, youre a denier. I mean how much resource its one of the most resourceful things and i also think, i want your thoughts, does it negate the state Department Statement on the impact of the keystone xl pipeline . Does this play into it . It was suspect the state departments assessment was suspect to gone with. When we looked aat where they got their information it came from industry, little have environmental activists who understand what the risk of this whole thing really might be. But this National Climate assessment, ed, the job for the democrats is to educate the public about how strong this statement is, were not talking about you, were talking about your children and grandchildren. And until the American Public can put the selfishness aside and say, its all about me, ive got to worry about me and start thinking they have children and grandchildren, if you read this National Climate assessment, that is who were talking about here. So there has to be some pivot by people who think rationally. Theyre not even advocating wind or solar. They dont want any investments. They think the private sectors going to attack catake care of everything. The private sectors run by big oil. Situations in the country where incentives are ripped out when it comes to wind and solar because big oil is driving the engine right there in the United States senate. But now we may see things changing a little bit. Heres another thing i want to bring up. I think is really important. We have seen the republicans wrong on a lot of stuff. Theyre off to a bad start on Climate Change what theyre denying. How is the poublic going to sta with them in denying when its one report after another about what were going through on climate . Theyre digging their own grave politically, arent they . They have a methodology, to take the obvious and turn those facts on their head. They know it works for them. They have they have looked at it time time again, focused it. Take the obvious, turn it on its head, and sometimes the public buys into. Thats why you now just have a Little Movement from the public on issues like fracking. You have some movement on the issues of pipeline. Theyre willing to spend tens of millions of dollars to gain control of the senate this next go round. Know what the issue is . Climate change and jobs. Well see that all over the place. No doubt about it. Good to have you with us. Answer tonights question at the bottom of the screen, share your thoughts with us on twitter. Also like us on facebook. Thanks so much. Oh, thats a bad miss. But remember, the familys coming back for another chance. Better luck next time. And todays top trender, benghazi fever. There are a lot of reasons why will the benghazi controversy keep Hillary Clinton from running for president . Hillary clinton said before i dont like to do the sunday shows. Dont become president of the United States. Its a conspiracy of hating on hillary by republicans. Some choose not to be satisfied and continue to move forward. Republicans try to turn up the heat on Hillary Clinton. In terms of secretary clintons role in all of this, why was susan rice chosen to talk about benghazi . Was hilly clinton a successful secretary of state . Overplaying our hand we do so at our peril. Well send subpoenas and expect her joining us, congresswoman debbie Wasserman Schultz of florida and the chair of the dnc. Good to have you with us. Thanks. You dont are to watch the other network for very long to find out the hillary factors involved in all of this. Your take on the way this has turned towards hillary. Well, just a few weeks ago, my republican colleagues especially their leadership, said that the Affordable Care act and their obsession with re repeal was issue one, two, and three. A funny thing happened with the remaining obsessed with Affordable Care act. It got more popular, 8 Million People signed up, a 20point drop in the belief the Affordable Care act is a bad thing. Because you know what . People dont want their Insurance Companies to drop them or deny them coverage. So, what republicans did was they next turned to another base motivator, cliven bundy and latched on to him aa hero. That kind of blew up in their face quickly. Now theyve relatched on to benghazi. This is after 13 hearings, 50 briefings, 25,000 pages of documented provided by the administration and now Speaker Boehner a few weeks ago said didnt need a select committee, that the house was going to do its work, now suddenly we need a select committee to get to the gotth bottom of what . How theyre going to make sure they have an issue to turn right Wing Tea Party base out. Thats all this is about. Its been reduced to asking why it was susan rice on the sunday talking shows instead of the secretary of state Hillary Clinton. And then the comment made by Lindsey Graham that, if you dont like going on sunday shows, dont run for president. Isnt that what this is all about, to somehow get a date to hillary to make her seem incompetent ten and not ready for the position . They dont have straws to grasp here, ed. Thats why theyve resorted to comments on, you know, media decision, media appearance decisions. What we should be doing and continuing to do with benghazi is working together to, a, like secretary clinton said make sure nothing like this ever happens again, and bring perpetrators to justice and also when it comes to making sure it never happens gone we beef up embassy security. They denied funding on that many times. Mr. Gowdy, congressman, former prosecutor, says its not going to be a hearing. He says its going to be depositions. What does that mean . Does that change the landscape at all. Look, trey goudy has raised money off of benghazi, i mean, selecting him to lead this, i mean, he is one of the more extreme tea party adherence to their right wing doctrine and you know, it has been obsessed himself with benghazi. I mean, choosing him was very transparent, what theyre trying to do is make sure that this remains an Election Year issue. They are going to fan these flames, and try to get this as white hot as they can. The problem is the American People want us focus on job creation, focus on getting the economy turned around and creating opportunities for everyone rather than the select few the republicans care about. Do you think Hillary Clinton will or should cooperate if she is subpoenaed . You know, secretary clinton has been cooperative all the way through. She has come and testified in front of the government oversight committee, even after she was no longer secretary of state. She was willing to do that. And like i said, the state department has and the administration has released 25,000 pages of documents. There doesnt appear to be anything left to do except use this as a republican method of fanning the flames to gin up their base. Okay. So should she not Pay Attention to the subpoena and should the democrats ignore this, quote, select special whatever the heck it is committee to go after benghazi . Well, look, if theyre going to actually make this fair, what leader pelosi has said, and i agree with her, committee should be evenly split, the same number of republicans and democrats if theyre going to attempt at a fair quote unquote investigation. But if they dont, then we should i think leader pelosi should seriously consider having us not participate because you know sanctioning this sham would be ridiculous. So unless its even, you say not participate . I think thats something that leader pelosi should seriously consider, that will be her decision and shell make a recommendation to the caucus. Look we shouldnt lend this credibility when what it is, is as transparent as it is, which is nothing more theyre not trying to get to the bottom of anything else. There was a nation met, led by admiral mullen, 29 recommendations of the process of being implemented, this is nothing more than them trying to keep this alive because they lost the Affordable Care act as an issue, they couldnt latch on to cliven bundy anymore, theyve got to find something to turn their base out. Frankly if you look at communications, one of the Communications Staff at the rnc, what she said the other day they were going to latch on to this issue and make sure that as much attention is possible paid to it because they know that it fires up their base. Thats all this is about. You know what . Its disgusting because we should make sure that we get to the bottom of it so it never happens again. They should support increasing embassy security. The way theyre acting, its a Bottomless Pit, the way theyre benghazi is the Bottomless Pit when it comes to news coverage. Congresswoman debbie Wasserman Schultz, chair of the dnc, thanks so much. I left the Republican Party because Republican Leadership went off the cliff. I saw how the party, some of them, were treating the friend american president and i couldnt take it anymore. It is politically hot in florida. Welcome back to the ed show. Thanks f thanks for watching. Charlie crist wont sugarcoat the problem with race. Republicans marked president obama as the enemy from his first day in office but the conflict penetrates deeper than plaque and white. Oppression all over the country, the hotbed now is florida, at least one of them. Republicans want to ensure one part of society stays down, latinos. Republicans actively fought against Immigration Reform, antilatino rhetoric is tolerated. Vetter suppression efforts target latino communities across the state. Senator marco rubio attacked the statement but was rubio understore scored the points. Republicans dont want a conversation about systemic oppression. Rubio says crists observations arent serious. Democrats will be embarrassed he became a democrat. I never met a single republican activist involved in my campaign that has ever in my opinion ever been motivated by race to state their objections. I think its absurd. You think hes a phony. Absolutely. The senator has no grounds to call anyone a phony. Rubios part through a facade of transition claiming the new gop will rely on inclusion and outreach maintaining Core Principles. I have to ask the question, what Core Principles . The modern gop is dependent on oppression. It is their Mission Statement when it comes to minorities, when it comes to voting, when it comes to the working folk of america, oppression is their mission, thats what theyre all about. Joining me tonight on Rapid Response panel, anna revias logan. Anna, has marco rubio set the tone for latino outreach in florida by attacking Charlie Crist like this . Well, ill tell you what, its naive of him to say theres no bigotry in the Republican Party. I personally was attacked during my campaign by my republican opponent for being nicaraguan, being born in nicaragua. He did a robocall, saying dont vote for her. And the Republican Leadership knew thises and going on and none of them did a darn thing. So to say that theres no bigotry within the party, i am here to stand and say there is bigotry is alive and well in the gop. For all them to stand by and not do one darn thing was beside i was beside myself. Mitch, six months out, we got good old name calling going on now. Weve got a United States senator calling a gubernatorial candidate a phony. Hows that going to play . Look at what were dealing with. Dealing with republicans, race, and rubio. In my neighborhood we call that a very ill balanced combination plate. Those things just dont go to together well. I find it obviously disinagain u was for marco rubio to talk about that. This is the same senator im ashamed hes our senator when he talks about shame the same guy that would push Immigration Reform. The tea party, his party, got on top of him and he backed off of that. Look, we can talk about the way the Republican Party acts and i dont find it hard to hear that governor crist make the comments he made. We could talk about the failure of the Republican Party to disassociate themselves during the campaign from the ridiculous charges against our africanamerican president talking about he was born in africa. We can talk about the Republican Partys total stymieing of our ability to raise the minimum wage. We could also talk about them doing everything they could to stop the unemployment extension. And that not only happened nationally that happened under governor rick scott in florida where we had a website down for many months that they did nothing to fix. So, when the Republican Party talks about minorities where its africanamerican, hispanic, they have a long and complete record of being very much not in the helpful mode. And anna, what do you think of Charlie Crist coming out so open about the Republican Party, why he left, and going after him . How do you think thats going to play with independent voters across the board in florida . Well, i think that the independent voters are tired of the rhetoric, especially from the tea party. Theyre tired of the right wing rhetoric. I think it will play very well with independent voters. Thats why theyre independent. They want to make up their own decision. They dont want to be swung by any party. But Charlie Crist is absolutely right to say bigotry and racism is alive and well its alive and well in the Republican Party. I was a republican at that time. My own party attacked me to get votes, use cheap shots. Lets not forget the Republican Party of florida failed to implement medicaid. We have the largest number of individuals that really, really need to expand medicaid and they refused to. He refused to. It was very sad because the speaker who was presiding over the chamber at the time personally used this when he was a child to save one of his family members, but yet to give it to another human being in state of florida is not acceptable. Im tired of this. Im ready to see a governor in the state of florida that is for the people, for all of the people, not just for the right wing rhetoric people. And finally, mitch ceaser, what is the Outreach Program for republicans in florida because as it demographically sits right now, the republicans have no chance in south florida. And a lot of people are telling me thats the breadbasket of the victory. Well i think youre absolutely right, ed. As licensy graham said, who is no democrat nor any liberal, hi comment was the republicans have a math problem and continue to do so. South florida, the point spread between rick scott and literally anybody is gigantic. I think what the key is pointed out are independents and thats if its collar Charlie Crist the nominee, thats his greatest strength. Rick scotts going negative on Charlie Crist spending millions of dollars even now. And the poll dont seem to have moved in his favor. I think hes going to find out south floridas a problem. It is so politically hot. Can i move to florida . I tell you, this is this is where its going to be this fall new york doubt about it. Anna and mitch, great to have you with us tonight. It lacks the necessary safeguards to ensure the proposed museum will not become an ideological shrine to abortion. Theres a lot of women out there who are against families. This museum is not about ideology, it has bipartisan support because it would tell the full story of womens contributions to the United States history. Of course, history has not been her strong suit. The very founders that wrote those documents worked tireless ly until slavery was no more in the United States. This is the story for the noeks who take a shower after wor record. For the record, president obama is the most obstructed president in United States history. When does he Start Talking about this . Well, apparently now the president is willing to talk about it. This week in a fundraiser in los angeles, president obama took a stand against republican obstruction. Hes thrown out the numbers. He called out the party of no for filibustering about 500 pieces of legislation that would help the middle class. This is where america is. Now hes engaging, talking about obstruction. I think its a turning point. The president also criticized republicans for preventing the passage of unemployment insurance. He says helping americans in a time of need is not a government handout. Its the job of government to help the folks work fighting for. If you put it in a nutshell, we know what the democrats are for and we know what the republicans are fighting against. Im joined tonight by congressman Chris Van Holland of maryland. Good to have you with us tonight. Good to be here. How much do you want the president youre on the democratic leadership team. How important is it for the president to get out and talk about obstruction . I think this is the first time hes really done it. What do you think about it . I think its very important. The American Public needs to know exactly whats happening here in congress, here in the house of representatives. This is the donothing congress when it comes to helping the middle class and when it comes to jobs. Lets just look at what Speaker Boehner has refused to vote on. Hes refused to vote on an increase in the minimum wage he refused to vote on unemployment compensati compensation. He refused to vote on comprehensive Immigration Reform. He refused to vote on the president s jobs plan. The only thing they vote on is this reveal the obamacare 50 times. So set up another committee on benghazi and to pass a budget that provides huge tax breaks for people at the top at the expense of everybody else. Thats their agenda when it comes to workers. Its a big fat zero. Worse than that, because theyre blocking every effort weve mad to try to get votes on those bills. So ive got to ask you about benghazi, the shift all of a sudden. It was all about health care, that kind of went bad for them. 50 months of private sector job growth, they, of course, have been on the sidelines. Hecklers from the stands is what i say. They say no to Immigration Reform. So now the president is out front and center. Hes the best campaigner out there. How much of an impact do you think this could have as a backdrop to the conversation . I think its essential. The big thing we need to do is engage in the public on all these questions. And i think theyll be engaged when they realize that Speaker Boehner and the House Republicans have just said no to everything that would make a meaningful difference in the lives of most of the American People. When people see republicans doing another hears or another round on these conspiracy theories around benghazi. When in peoples lives, they care about their kids education, they care about jobs, they care about making sure the federal Transportation Fund doesnt go bankrupt this summer as its scheduled to do unless we adopt some of the president s proposals. I think when they look at that mismatch they will decide to get out of their houses and get out of their chairs and go out and vote. Congressman, do you think the republicans really believe that theres new information here . That could have a huge impact on benghazi . That whole story . I think whats happening here, ed, is that the republicans in washington are actually using the republican base. Because thy convinced a lot of Republican Voters a lot of Tea Party Voters around the country theres this big conspiracy. They know very well here in washington from reading the facts, like the two bipartisan committees in the senate, the Intelligence Committee and Homeland Security committee, they didnt find these ridiculous conspiracies. Here in the house, i think they know that after four separate committees have looked at this, theres not much there. But it riles up the base, as you saw today. Theyre trying to raise money. Theyre trying to raise money. The National Republican Campaign Committee is trying to raise money off the tragedy in benghazi. Theyre taking advantage of their base. Their base is going to wake up at some point, i hope. Congressman, appreciate your time tonight. Thanks so much. Thats the ed show. Politics nation starts right now with reverend al sharpton. Good evening, rev. Good evening, ed. And thanks to you for tuning in. Tonights lead, politicizing tragedy. Thats whats happening right now. House republicans are expected to vote on forming another benghazi committee. You are looking live at the house floor where theyll vote for a brandnew gopled panel to investigate the 2012 attack. And if youre getting a bad case of deja vu, youre not alone. Because we beve
