With 65 of the state in. And Washington State rocked by the coronavirus, that is too close to call. Any talk of sanders comeback in michigan was blunted by bidens doubledigit lead, 53 to 37 . Biden awards 65 of the seats of the states 125 delegates so far. Sanders was given 45. 50 delegates are still on the table with 9 of the vote still out. Were also watching mississippi not because of bidens 81 , but with sanders on the board 15. 8 . If sanders does not land at 15. 0 when the remaining number of votes come in he wont get a single vote. Biden at 836. Sanders at 686. A difference of 150 delegates. Joe biden as part of his primary victories last night, his support among the White College educated women. One of Elizabeth Warren key voting blocs. Over half of white educated women backed biden, compared to the 30 to voted for sanders. This is an over 20point uptick for biden, and before warren dropped out of the race. Biden continued to do well among key voting groups including in michigan where he received two 33rds of the africanamericans. And in mississippi, moderates, conservatives and black voters. And in missouri, 80 of democratic voters there who said they wanted a candidate who could unite the country. They ended up choosing the former Vice President. Joe biden addressed supporters in philadelphia where following numerous primary victories he sounded like he had already become the democratic nominee. Tonight, i want to the speak to you from philadelphia, where we announced our campaign at the front end, when we did our final announcement. To all those who have been knocked down, to all those who have been counted out, left behind, is this your campaign. Just over a week ago, many of the pundits declared this candidacy was dead. Now, were very much alive. [ cheers and applause ] and although theres a way to go, looks like were going to have another good night. As i said from the beginning, this election is one that has character on the ballot. The character of the candidates. The character of the nation is on the ballot. Its more than a comeback in my view, our campaign. Its a comeback for the soul of this nation. This campaign is taking off, and i believe were going to do well from this point on. Take nothing for granted. I want to earn every single vote in every single date. But if youre willing, if you want to join us, go to joebiden. Com. [ cheers and applause ] sign up. Sign up, volunteer. And contribute if you can. We need you. We want you, and theres a place in our campaign for each of you. I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their Tireless Energy and their passion. We share a common goal. And together, well defeat donald trump. Well defeat him again. All right. Lets get right to nbc news voter ali vitali. Ali, good morning. I want to get to last nights results but first youre actually in cleveland this morning, because joe biden and Bernie Sanders, they were both supposed to hold rallies there. But they got cancelled. So talk us through that. Yeah, yasmin, it feels like this is potentially a new reality, campaigning at the time of coronavirus. Because both Bernie Sanders and joe biden were supposed to be here in ohio looking ahead to states that have yet to vote but will vote in the near future. Instead, both of those campaigns separately made the decision after talking with local officials on the ground. To cancel their rallies here. Instead, flying back to in Bernie Sanders case, burling n burlington, vermont ajoe biden. And how you show leadership amidst the Public Health crisis, both of these campaigns have to show how they would contend with this crisis if they were the ones sitting in the white house. As we go forward, the thing im the most stunned by, this is not the first time an external crisis have impacted the 2020 race. I think specifically back in january when the senators were sidelined being in washington for impeachment. A different kind of external factor but still something that made them think creatively how they could still be campaigning while in washington, d. C. Now, the question is how do you campaign physically in front of people when there are concerns of putting large numbers of people clustered together, especially indoors where the weather is still cold in so many of these states, i think the question continues how they can continue to get facetoface campaigning that voters crave. I see a political professor in the horizon writing campaigning at the time of coronavirus. Im not politically smart enough to do that. But ali just coined a book title there. Ali, let me you can about the results from last night. Give us your takeaways, your key takeaways, and where does Bernie Sanders goconnect 1200. And as ali vitali mentioned moments ago, joe biden and Bernie Sanders were supposed to be holding rallies in cleveland yesterday. But it was guided by Public Health officials. And the next debate wont have a Live Audience over similar concerns about the spread of the coronavirus. Coachella and stage coach have both been postponed until october. And talk shows like the view will be post pointed. The news has prompted discussions about whether or not parliament should be suspend. According to the the New York Times in the early days of the outbreak, thousands of flu samples, researchers saw the tests and flagged them for the coronavirus but the cdc wouldnt allow them. Researchers started performing the coronavirus anyway without approval. The first case of Community Transmission in the region, as the times puts it the failure to tap into the flu study was just one in a reverse of missed chances by the federal government to ensure more widespread testing during the early days of the outbreak when containment should have been easier. Instead, local officials in the country were left to work in the dark as the crisis through undetected and exponentially. Despite the coronavirus concern, President Trump sees no reason to be tested for the deadly disease. I dont think its a big deal. I dont feel any reason. I feel extremely good. I feel very good. I guess its not a big deal because its not something i would do. Again, i spoke to the white house doctor, terrific guy. He says he sees no reason to do it. No symptoms, no anything. Still ahead, after a turbulent few days of the stock market rebounded yesterday, but it doesnt seem like that lasted for long. Futures are looking down again this morning. Choose the app that fits your investing style. Welcome back. The stock market made a massive rebound yesterday to end on a high, just one day after its worst day since the financial crisis of 2008. The dow which was just 0. 2 aware from a bear market the day higher, finished the day up 1100 points. The s p and nasdaq ended on market highs. The market gains were due in part to the white houses plan to help slow the economic fallout from the coronavirus which includes a payroll tax cut and help for hourly wage earners. This morning, however, futures are pointing to losses. The dow set to open at 700 points at the open. And President Trump is planning a payroll tax cut that would act through the end of the year as the coronavirus continues to spread. The spread joined week ly start for their lunch. Sitting with lawmakers on capitol hill, as they back their support behind targeted measures to assist hourly workers in the travel industry. Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin met with nancy pelosi. And a federal Appeals Court in washington ruled yesterday that the Justice Department must release two congressional departme democrats jury evidence to congress. The 2 to 1 victory came as the house voted to impeach the president in december. The u. S. Court of appeals for the d. C. Circuit upheld the lower court order that gives Congress Access to certain secret material from bob muellers investigation into the 2016 election. The 26page Appeals Court opinion found that in its impeachment investigate the house was legally engaged in a judicial process that exempts congress from secrecy rules. The divided ruling, however, can be appealed and does not mean the redacted merely from muellers final report will be immediately turned over to congress. Interesting development there. With that, lets take a quick pivot and a look at the forecast. Hey, bill. Good morning. Crazy day yesterday, huh . I mean it never ends. Yesterday, what are we talking about yeah, coronavirus, super tuesday, wall street, mueller report. Yeah, it was just overwhelming. Feels like it every day. I had the first death in the county i lived in, in new jersey. In new jersey. And just seems like the hot spots are going to be the whats going to happen over the next week or two. The cases in the tristate area quadrupled and that rate is going to continue. I actually spoke to the governor yesterday. And thats why theyre taking these drastic measures. It doesnt mean that people cant necessarily go in and around the onemile area of the containment area its more about cleaning up the buildings outside of that containment area. All of the social distance. People from harvard was the First University five days ago, shutting it down online. Now, everyone is copying it. Yeah. Thats whats going to happen. The proms, the graduations, the spring weddings cancelled. Its actually raised an interesting question, not to go off on a tangent here, a lot of students are telling us, where do you want us to go, theyre forced to leave the dorms, a lot of students, in some cases, cant go overseas and knowing theyre not able to come back in the u. S. People are wondering are they going to get refunds on room and board. All of a sudden, the parents, their lives massive disruption. Its going to hit all of us sooner or later if it hasnt hit you late. Lets get to your forecast. Lets prepare you to get you out the door. We are tracking thunderstorms in areas of eastern kansas, heading to portions of missouri. As we go throughout the afternoon and the morning, we could see storms remaining severe. And we are wondering if we could get isolated tornadoes out of this. The areas of greatest concern is arkansas from mississippi, from little rock to greenville to starkville. Thats the area of greatest concern, isolated large hail, damaging winds a possibility, too. Otherwise, warm weather pattern that continues. Chicago is 62. Its been ridiculously warm. We are it doesnt feel like it. Its still winter. It doesnt feel like it at all. Also on thursday, because its so warm, we have 9 Million People at risk of severe storms. I dont think well see big tornado outbreaks, guys we could get isolated ones, arkansas and mississippi. Former attorney general Jeff Sessions suffers a major blow in the race for his senate seat. President trump tuesday turned to twitter to endorsement alabamas Tommy Tuberville against his attorney general Jeff Sessions. He wrote this, Tommy Tuberville is running for the u. S. Senate from the great state of alabama. Tommy was a terrific football coach of the university and he is a real leader. The president went on to tout the strength on the crime and border and described him as a winner. Sessions was the first member of congress to support the trump candidacy, and among the first supporters named to the administration. After recusing himself from the 2016 election, he fell out of favor from the president and was ousted one day after the midterm elections back in 2018. And the Washington Post reports the director of the National Intelligence and Security Center told congress that u. S. Intelligence agencies do not yet have evidence that russia is interfering in the 2020 election for a particular candidate according to officials familiar with the closeddoor briefing. That appears to conflict with what the administration told the House Intelligence Committee in january. He prefers trump and Bernie Sanders. Told that the russians continue to be engaged with activities designed further to disrupt our election. Still ahead, we have a lot more to cover from last nights primary results as joe biden takes a significant step towards claiming the president ial democratic nomination. Plus, a tense moment on the campaign trail as the former Vice President is confronted about gun rights. While in detroit, were going to have those stories and more. About vehicle quality. And when they were done, chevy earned more j. D. Power quality awards across cars, trucks and suvs than any other brand over the last four years. So on behalf of chevrolet, i want to say thank you, real people. Youre welcome. Were gonna need a bigger room. Welcome back, im Yasmin Vossoughian alongside Ayman Mohyeldin. We begin with the results from last nights democratic primary contest as joe biden extends his delegate lead to victories in at least four of the six states that voted last night. The key state of michigan, missouri, mississippi and idaho, the north dakota caucus is too early to call as of yet. Bernie sanders is up by seven points with 62 of results there. And Washington State which has been rocked by the coronavirus as of late is too close to call as well. Sanders there, leading by less than 2100 votes for 0. 2 of a percent right now. And any talk of a sanders comeback in michigan was blunted by bidens doubledigit lead. 57 to 36 there. Biden awards 65 of the states 125 delegates, so far, sanders, 45. 15 delegates are still on the table with 7 of the votes still out. And were also watching mississippi not because of bidens massive 81 , but because of sanders. It says he won 15 . But its actually 14. 8. The significance of that is, if he doesnt land at 15. 0 when the remaining percent of the votes come in, sanders wont get a single statewide delegate from mississippi. Heres where the delegate totals stand as of right now, biden at 836, sanders at 686. Joe biden won support among White College educated women. According to an nbc news exit poll, almost half of white educated women backed biden in the contest, compared to the 30 to voted for sanders. This is an almost 20point uptick from biden from primaries before warren dropped out of the race. Meanwhile, biden continued to perform well, including in michigan where he received over 60 of the vote of africanamerican voters over the age of 45. In mississippi, he won 80 of the vote, in moderate and conservative democrats and black voters. And in missouri, over 80 of democratic voters there who said they wanted a candidate who could unite the country chose the former Vice President. And joe biden addressed reporter s at the National Constitution center before following numerous victories, he sounded like he had already become the democratic nominee. Tonight, i want to speak to you from philadelphia, where we announced our campaign at the front end where we did our final announcement. To all those who have been knocked down, to all those who have been counted out, left behind. This is your campaign. Just over a week ago, many of the pundits declared that this candidacy was dead. Now, were very much alive. [ cheers and applause ] and although theres a way to go, it looks like were going to have another good night. As i said from the beginning, this election is one that has character on the ballot. The character of the candidates, the character of the nation is on the ballot. Its more than a comeback, in my view, our campaign. Its a comeback for the soul of this nation. This campaign is taking off, and i believe were going to do well from this point on, take nothing for granted. I want to earn every single vote in every single state. But if youre willing, if you want to join us, joe to joebiden. Com. Sign up. Sign up, volunteer. And contribute, if you can. We need you. We want you. And theres a place in our campaign for each of you. I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their Tireless Energy and their passion. We share a common goal, and together, well defeat donald trump, well defeat him again. Senator Bernie Sanders did not speak last night after falling further behind in the delegate count in the race for the democratic nomination. The vermont senator was expected to speak from a rally in cleveland but both he and former Vice President joe biden cancelled their gatherings due to the spread of the coronavirus. Sanders flew home to michigan without issuing a statement. While his press secretary downplayed tuesdays off and said i for one are extremely excited about the debate all of the moderates are panicking about. The delegate difference is 31 points outside of 451 total. America finally gets to see biden defend his ideas or lack thereof on sunday. A man claimed that the former Vice President was going to take away his guns. The Fiat Chrysler employee challenged biden after seeing a video of beto orourke who considers banning assault style weapons in gun reform. Heres part of the heated exchange. Youre fuel of [ bleep ] i support the second amendment. Im not taking your guns away. At all, you need 100 rounds i did not say that. I did not say that. Youre working for me man. Im not working for you give me a break. [ bleep ]. Wow. In the terse altercation you that saw there, biden misidentified one type of weapon, which also naming off the guns he owns, including shotguns which he has used while hunting with his son. Meanwhile, joe bidens remarks came after a campaign decided to cancel a celebratory victory in cleveland. While hes expected to deliver more remarks tomorrow on how the coronavirus should be handled, biden said last night that the Public Health emergency vote say matter of president ial leadership. Folks, look, we were planning a big rally in cleveland tonight. But the governor of ohio asked the president ial campaigns to cancel their indoor Public Events in cleveland, with large, large crowds of people. Thats what we did, due to the coronavirus. And he was concerned about that. And as i said all along, that we would follow the guidance of the cdc, state and local officials and Public Health officials, with respect to our campaign events. Well continue to do that. This is a matter, this whole coronavirus issue is a matter of president ial leadership. And later this week, ill be speaking to you on what i believe the nation should be doing to address this virus. Joining us now, once again from cleveland, ohio, nbc news political reporter, ali vitali. Ali, glad to have you back. Both joe biden and Bernie Sanders cancel there in ohio. No word yet out of the Trump Campaign whether or not theyre following similar steps. Would you say that growing concerns are affecting voter turnout . What do we know about how it played not a state Like Washington which has been the epicenter of the coronavirus here in the United States so far . Look, the benefit for a state like Washington State is that they are able to vote by mail. Its a place that does heavily vote by mail. That is certainly going for them. But as i was watching our friend Steve Peterson last night doing live shots from Washington State, the purchase pureell was out in force. At the same time, look a few days before, joe biden was offering Hand Sanitizer to people as they walked into one of his events. You saw a string of those little pumpers to put out the sanitizer for people in those events as well. To, clearly precaution being taken. And we already knew before the candidates cancelled the rallies last night that they were talking with officials. I think well continue to see that going forward. Especially as you have more states set to vote next week. Voting doesnt stop. It rolls on through. But weve already seen one impact of the coronavirus in what upcoming debate on sunday. The debate is set for arizona. The dnc saying last night in a statement that i reported that there was not going to be a studio audience for this debate. Theres also not a spin room or press file. The places that people like me go to watch and cover that debate. So, in changes now being made clearly because of this Public Health crisis. I think this may be only the beginning what we see and the impact of the campaign trail and also how voters interact with candidates. Ali, really quickly do you think that favors one candidate over the other, that style of not having any audience members from the politics youve covered so far . I have no idea. Look, weve seen the debate audiences play a role. Sometimes, its been protesters. Sometimes, its been booing, sometimes, its cheering. There are a lot of these candidates who feed off of a crowd. I used to cover Elizabeth Warren before she dropped out last week she was someone you could see it, when a crowd was energized she was energized. Bernie sanders and joe biden could have that same impact. Having no one else in the room i imagine that could be a little eerie, but at the same time, i think this is the new reality on the campaign trail. Yeah, seems like it is. A home for american politics. I doubt that. Lets talk to senator sanders, we heard that he diverted his plane back to vermont last night. That is where he spent the evening. He also did not address supporters as Vice President joe biden did. What do you make of it . I think the silence may be regrouping. At the same time, when you have a good night, you tend to find a camera as evidenced by joe biden. Joe biden still found a way to talk with media surrounded by Campaign Staffers in philadelphia. Bernie sanders on the other hand was always set to go back to burlington, vermont. But theyre also pushing ahead to this debate. If you look at what some of this advisers are saying on twitter. Theyve been relishing this idea of going oneonone with joe biden for a while. Bernie sanders previewing lines of attacks, specifically on things like health care. But also i imagine things that will come up with joe bidens record broadly in the white house. I think thats something that Bernie Sanders is really a fight that hes been itching to have. At the same time, though, the landscape of last night has to be fresh in their minds clearly its not the way they wanted to go, just suffering a string of losses across the states last night. Even a place like michigan which is really a place that gave his campaign an extra momentum in 2016 because he was able to stun people here. Now, look at it here in 2020, it just shows the new reality for Bernie Sanders campaigning in 2016, versus campaigning in 2020. And i think the last thing i would say, just look at the word turnout. Thats something thats been a essential argument to Bernie Sanders campaign that he can turn out young voters, for example, and increase turnout across the board. It hasnt been born out in terms of the data. The person it has turned out for is joe biden. Look at michigan, the county 50 turnout, thats a big number. Thats a county that joe biden did well in. Turnout may be becoming a joe biden argument not necessarily a Bernie Sanders argument. As we saw on super tuesday, with the exit poll across the board, widespread support for medicare for all. As weve seen, the former Vice President winning in the primaries. Ali vitali, great seeing you. Still ahead, joe biden is endorsed by yet another president ial president ial rival. Plus, why jim clyburn of South Carolina has called on the dnc to shut down the democratic primary process. Your first look at morning joe is back in a moment. Majority w. H. I. P. James clyburn called on the Democratic National committee to step in and shut down the primary process in joe biden wins big in the six states that were up for grabs yesterday. Watch. I think when the night is over, joe biden will be the prohibitive favorite to win the democratic nomination. And quite frankly, if the night ends the way it has begun, i think it is time for us to shut this primary down. Its time for to us cancel the rest of these debates because you dont do anything but get yourself in trouble, if you continue in this contest when its obvious that the numbers will not shape out for you. I think the part in that is when he says you get yourself in trouble if you let this process go on. I think a lot of people are wondering what he meant by that, clyburn who endorsed biden ahead of the South Carolina primary also weighed in on the debate calendar saying the dnc should, quote, step in and make an assessment whether or not to hold any more debates. Andrew yang announcing his endorsement for joe biden. Yang tweeted last night this, since i started running, i always said i would support the democratic nominee, the math is clear, joe biden will be the nominee. Im glad to endorse him for president. Joe knows how serious the Fourth Industrial Revolution is he and i have spoken about it at length. Yang who backed sanders also backed supporters. Writing i was a bernie supporter in 2016 and believe he is right in diagnosing much of what is wrong with our country. He is an inspiration to me and my entire team. I hope that we can unite to defeat donald trump in the fall. Lets turn to meteorologist bill karins. Hi, everybody. Were looking at outdoor stuff this coming weekend. It is the warm season, people are complaining about the pollen in the southern half of the country, thats moving north. Here we are this morning. There is a little snow left. Winter in a few spots. Green bay, its snowing, milwaukee and northern michigan, thunderstorms from with the that, now spreading to southern missouri. Thats where we could deal with isolated strong storms this morning. Even the possibility of a few severe storms, maybe a tornado or two in areas of mississippi and also slide in through areas of arkansas. So, those storms are now here. Theyre going to slide to the southsoutheast. Little rock watch out. Its going to happen in the morning, late morning and afternoon in areas of mississippi. Its not your typical Late Afternoon or evening thunderstorm event. Its actually earlier today and right through the lunch hour. As far as the forecast goes as we go throughout much of the day today, we are going to watch warm condition. Heres the forecast through today. 55 in d. C. , new york at 57, chicago at 51. Notice how warm in the southern half of the country. 82 in dallas. 71 in atlanta. As we go towards tomorrow, much of the same, still great in the northeast, midatlantic, but we will have storms in areas. Midwest. As far as the upcoming weekend, friday looks like a rainy day in the northeast. Then we clear it out in the northeast for a nice saturday and sunday. The middle of the country will be stormy and snow to deal with. Active weather pattern. Well have on and off storms to deal with. But this morning, our eyes are on arkansas and mississippi, we have to keep an eye on the forecast. Chance of an isolated tornado. Thank you, bill. Still ahead, the impact of the coronavirus, including the economic toll as the white house mulls its potential response and market swings and the fallout affecting the airline industry. Were back in a moment. Its actually fundamentally, as american as anything. And it is an existential threat to the multiracial, pluralistic, equal and open democracy that weve been fighting for in this country since people died in the battlefield in the civil war. Welcome back. Now, to the latest growing coronavirus threat as the number of known cases across the country has now topped 1,000. New states of emergency have been declared in colorado, massachusetts and michigan because of the virus. Now, one of the Top Federal Health officials issued this warning just yesterday. We would like the country to realize that as a nation, we cant be doing the kinds of things weve been doing a few months ago. That it doesnt matter if youre in a state that has no cases or one case. You have to start taking seriously what you can do now, that if and when the infections will come, and they will come, sorry to say, sad to say, they will. According to the New York Times, after weeks of mounti i frustration, states with a growing number of cases are struggling to test widely for the coronavirus virus. And officials to get a true picture of the scale of the growing outbreak. And new york state creates a containment area in new rochelle. And as of yesterday, Westchester County has seen 108 cases of the virus. And joe biden and Bernie Sanders were both supposed to hold rallies yesterday. This sundays president ial debate wont even have a Live Audience, nor will there will be a spin room as ali vitali was mentioned over the spread of the virus. Two high profile concerts like coachella will be cancelmany. And overseas, the uk Health Minister has tested positive. She met with Boris Johnson the day before. The stock market made a massive rebound yesterday to end on a high just one day after its worst day of the financial krasz since 2008. The dow which was 0. 2 away from the market before finished up over 1100 points. The s p and nasdaq ended on highs. The market is due in part to help slow the economic fallout which includes a proposed payroll tax and help from hourly wage earners. This morning, futures are pointing to losses. The dow set to open at 600 points at the open. And as the Trump Administration deals with the crisis, its keeping a close eye on wall street. Nbc news Kristen Welker has more.
