We even saw that famous trump baby blimp in the sky. The visit included normal president ial duties, you know, like taking his entire family, including his four adult children, their spouses, and even treasury secretary steve mnuchin. And a trump trip wouldnt be complete without a handful of twitter attacks. One target, london mayor sadiq khan, duchess Meghan Markle, and actress bette midler. Go figure. Back in washington, Speaker Pelosi is still refusing to let the house to begin impeachment proceedings even though theyre calling for it. While shes holding out, pelosi told senior democrats privately that she simply wants to see trump behind bars. So democrats plan to kick start investigations next week, reinvigorate inquiries and set up hearings and schedule contempt votes. More on that later in the show. But lets start with the president embarrassing all of us with his trip overseas. Joining me now, danielle moodiemills, host of woke af on serioirius xm radio and know nick purr. He takes that as an opportunity to attack the mayor of london, the duchess of sussex, bette midler, which we cant figure out how she got in the pile and political shots at Chuck Schumer and nancy pelosi. Are republicans embarrassed like many of the rest of the country . I dont think theyre surprised. Lets just put it this way, because he is we all know donald trump is known for his twitter jabs. You know, i think that republicans are looking past that and looking at his speech in normandy which, you know, even some people on msnbc that have been very critical of the president , thought it was a good speech. But as for the personal jabs attacking, you know, Meghan Markle with sadiq khan, the mayor, which i think that these are typical of the president , but theyre not the norm. We dont really have leaders, especially american leaders, that come on foreign soil and Start Twitter wars. This is all very new. But, i mean, we all have to admit this is the trump era. This is what he does. Nobodys surprised. Its a continuation. Look, hes also calling i dont like the leader of north korea, but hes also, you know, he threatened him that his button was bigger and he called him rocket man. But then they started exchanging love letters. Danielle, your response to the trip. One, i want to give my hats off to the people of the u. K. Who showed up in force to protest this president. I wish that we had that kind of energy on a daytoday basis with the people out on the streets because i think that showing that he is not welcome, showing the numbers based on what barack obama had when he was president at that time, i think that he was somewhere in the 65 of people approving of his work in the u. K. I think donald trump is somewhere circle a toilet bowl around 20 . And so, you know, like her, i think its an embarrass not that every time he goes abroad, instead of showing the unity of the United States on a solemn occasion on dday. To step foot on foreign soil and tear down your political opponents is not just bad politics, its just tacky. And this president is just tacky in that way. I do think his Approval Rating would be higher if it wasnt for himself. He does this to himself. The tweeting, if he did not do this, i think that he would have a higher Approval Rating. Let me go a little further. I thought that his speech that he red at normandy was good, particularly for him. But it was good. But then, after that it got weird. Let me read you this one tweet that caught my attention. This is the president , tweeted this word. For all the money we are spending, nasa should not be talking about going to the moon. We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including mars, of which the moon is a part, defense and science. Now, maybe its a republican thing, but the moon is part of mars, educate me on this, noelle. I cannot educate you on that because i have no idea. If i could get inside Donald Trumps head and figure out what exactly he means who knows . I do not know. There have been throughout his tenured very bizarreo tweets. I dont know. I wouldnt pay any attention to this, who knows . The problem is we should be paying attention to this because its the president of the United States. Hes traveling with the football, National Security stuff. He literally knows nothing about science. This is why we have a president right now in the midst of Climate Change disaster that were seeing in the United States, tornadoes, epic flooding, unprecedented this and that, he doesnt believe in Climate Change so we laugh at this, but its serious. Weve never had a president its not funny. That knew nothing. Lets go to his base. The unemployment numbers were disappointing yesterday, and some are saying that the economy is leveling off in the middle of this threatened tariffs which he was able to settle at least for now what he did with mexico. What happens if the economy starts going down or remains where it is and his own base is complaining that theyre not getting the jobs and theyre not getting the big tax benefits that they were told out of his tax bill. What happens then, noelle . That is not a funny issue because its all about that base. It is about the base, it is about the economic strength behind what trump is doing. And trump is riding on the economy. He is riding, putting it all on the economy. If the economy goes south, if you start seeing if you wake up every day and you turn on c nbc and you start seeing red, red, red, theres going to be trouble. Corporations, its a domino effect. Corporations are going to be, like, lets hold off on hiring more people right now, and that is his base, the working man and woman. Thats why a lot of people are saying, depending on whats going on in the economy, states like pennsylvania, wisconsin, ohio, back in play because that was kind of a working mans territory that trump managed to get. So this is why everybody is very, you know danielle, when you look at wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania, what was the Electoral College difference for him, they were looking for jobs there. Aside from the fact im going to deal with that later, i dont think the democrats really worked their base there. And now you see these numbers that totally caught them off guard because they were projecting double what they produced. If that becomes a pattern, is that an opening for the democrats . I think its a huge opening for the democrats and i think its something they need to seize on. Donald trump is a used car salesman that has been selling the American People a lie, which is that this battle hes having, these tariff battles that he says this person is going to pay for this and this country is going to pay for that when its the American People that are going to end up paying. The tariffs are going to hurt american farmers. Theyve been hurting american manufacturers and American Auto workers because steel prices and alumni is going up. These are things that he promised he was going to get out of control. His ego is what is going to be his demise. To noelles point, for putting everything on the economy, hes also riding on obamas economy. That obama fixed. All the things hes been doing, i see that you see the truckers, the farmers, i think that they will eventually turn on him. We still have to deal with china stealing our intellectual property. That is an ongoing really bad thing. This cannot be a standard protocol to business. Ask any ceo that had to deal with technology whether its Standard Practice of them taking our technology, basically stealing it. So that is something thats a legitimate point. But can you fight china on stealing intellectual properties and fight mexico and fight all these other fronts . And what kind of credibility do you have about fighting the stealing of intellectual properties, but you havent really done anything about hacking american elections by russians . I think that he should i think the mistake was made when you needed to direct all your attention towards what the theft of whats going on with china and the intellectual property, not canada and the dairy industry. Citing the whole world. Hes building us into an isolationist he cant fight those battles at the same time. He also has a thing called on impeachment inquiry happening here in the United States. So trump is escalating fights around the world where he needs to be paying attention into particular areas that matter to us, right, that he is neglecting. And thats what trump does. He goes where his ego goes. He goes where he thinks he can puff out his chest and where he doesnt have an actual reaction or policy in place, then he creates a distraction someplace else, and thats what i think hes doing with the tariff battles in mexico and not really digging into what he needs to be doing in china and definitely ignoring everything that russia has done and will continue to do as we move into 2020. All right. Well have more with noelle and danielle later in the show. Coming up, well talk to the very first congressman who called for the impeachment of President Trump. Well be right back. Hey, who are you . Oh, hey jeff, im a car thief. What . im here to steal your car because, well, thats my job. What . What . . What . laughing what . . What . what . [crash] what . haha, it happens. Awesome. Id rather not. Mr. Speaker, i rise today with a heavy heart. I rise today with a sense of responsibility and duty to the people who have elected me, a sense of duty to this country, a sense of duty to the constitution of the United States of america. I rise today, mr. Speaker to call for the impeachment of the president of the United States of america. May of 2017, congressman al green became the first member of the house to call for the impeachment of President Trump. Now after the release of the redacted Mueller Report, which specifically did not clear the president of obstruction, 60 House Democrats and one republican are sounding the alarm, making calls for impeachment proceedings to begin. However, most of the Democratic Party is still not there. Most notably, House Speaker nancy pelosi, who this week said she would rather see trump in prison than be impeached by congress. Joining me now from houston, democratic representative al green of texas. Congressman green, there are more and more of your colleagues that are coming on board what you initially called for. Why arent we seeing the majority, and what are your feelings about the position of Speaker Pelosi . Thank you for having me on, reverend. You might recall also that 66 persons voted for us to move impeachment forward in the house of representatives on one prior occasion, 58 on another occasion. My belief is that a good many people at some point will conclude that every day that we do not impeach is another day the president is above the law. I believe a good many of my colleagues are indicating that they want to put principle above politics and people above party, and i think that they are moving toward impeachment. I cannot say what the number is or will be, but i can say this, reverend. We will have another vote on it because every member of the house can bring this issue before the body, and, of course, i intend to do so again. I cannot allow the paralysis of analysis as dr. King put it to take up our constitutional responsibility. With reference to the speaker, i think the speaker is doing what she believes to be the right thing, and i have always encouraged people to do what you believe to be the right thing. For me, the right thing is to treat the president the way we would treat any other person who committed the violations that hes committed. He should not be allowed to be above the law. Weve had now some 1,000 federal prosecutors who said anybody else committing these offenses would, in fact, be prosecuted for them. The president must be held accountable or we will be held accountable for our failure to hold him accountable. High crimes and misdemeanors are the basis of moving forward for impeachment. And when you see the Mueller Report saying in plain english that we cannot say the president did not commit a crime, and when were told he is probably the unindicted coconspirator in the Michael Cohen case in the Southern District of new york, does that not reach the bar to begin impeachment proceedings . It absolutely does, reverend, absolutely does. I have colleagues who will say that, say literally what you have said, but then conclude that we should not go forward with impeachment. I think that many persons who say the soul of the country if the legal bar is reached, congressman, why are they saying, yes, its there, but we shouldnt proceed . Is it just politics . Well, i dont know what it is. I can say this to you, reverend. I will not allow political expediency to trump the moral imperative to go forward. We have a duty to do so, and i plan to do my duty. People expect us to. I would add one other thing, reverend. Many people think the public is not aware that impeachment means that the house acts. Many people understand that the senate has a trial, but we also understand that impeachment does not go away by virtue of the Senate Making one decision or another. The president will have been impeached. Andrew johnson was impeached and did not get reelected. Bill clinton was impeached and our candidate afterwards, al gore, didnt win. Impeachment is a stain that is indelible. As you move forward with going back again and introducing this again, are you comfortable with the fact that once a vote is called, then many that are saying no for whatever reasons, including i suggest political reasons, they may have to once they have to be on the record, you may be able to build up more numbers that are calling for impeachment . Reverend, thats my hope that it will happen. My hope is that people, given the opportunity to make a decision, will decide that the president cant be above the law, that just as we prosecute people who commit lesser crimes all the time, we will not allow the president to commit a greater crime and be above the law. Thats my hope. But, reverend, i have to share this with you. Whether others agree with me or not, i was sent here by people who put their trust, their hope, their faith and confidence in me. When they talk to me, they talk to me about the things that are impacting their lives as a result of policies this president has produced. And i cant let them down, so im going to vote for the people of this country, when they have their Kitchen Table discussions, they talk about how someone was fired because of racism, how someone did not get hired because of racism. They talk about how lbgtq persons can be fired for who they are. Congressman, you just came back from el salvador visit ago former constituent of yours, mr. Jose escobar, who was deported two years ago. Tell us about that trip and about your former constituent. Yes, sir. Reverend, if i may say so, i still crossclaim him as my constituent regardless of where he is in the world, hes my constituent and im going to bring him home, reverend. Im going back as many times as i have to and i plan to bring him home. He is married, has two children, americanborn, americanborn wife, mortgage, paying for his wife, paying taxes, doing all things that we expect a good citizen to do. Hes a citizen in everything but name only. Since hes been there, hes been robbed, he cant traverse great distances. He has to be careful how he moved about. What i saw him, i had to be cautious about my movements. But i want to thank the American Embassy for the work they performed while i was there and for helping me to bring him home. I believe we will bring him home and i plan to go back until i get it done. Why are they saying that he was deported . What is the rationale theyre giving for deporting him . He came here at the age of 15 and tried to get temporary protective status, for whatever reason, it didnt work out, but he did report to the authorities. He was not hiding. And he reported, and when he reported with his wife and one of his children, he was deported with 20 in his pocket and the clothes on his back. I think that was a horrible thing to do to this family. He is thought to be one of these bad hombres that the president talked about. Hes not a bad person. He has ban lawabiding person, and i think that he merits reconsideration and we plan to get him that reconsideration. This policy of separating families is something weve got to revisit and visit again and again in congress. I have a bill that will reunite families who are caught in this situation. This is not the way america should treat people who mean us no harm, whove been paying taxes. Now were doing it at the border with children. This is not the america that we active that has a statue of liberty. This is an american we dont know and we have to do what we can to bring back the america that welcomes those who are tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Now for me weekly memo to President Trump who spent the better part of this week on a state tour of europe that culminated in the commemoration of dday at normandy beach. You delivered a mostlyscandalfree speech and got to pose with the flag and the veterans, mr. President. But despite how much you brag about throwing money at the military, youve also used it as a selfpromotional tool in the grossest way, while at the same time insulting gold star families, even deceased veterans that you are opposed to politically. You pushed to pardon war criminals and even this week when you joined your fellow World Leaders in signing a dday proclamation, you couldnt resist the urge to promote yourself with a signature that might as well been the heading. The message is always clear, despite your, quote, bone spurs, sparing you service in the vietnam war, youve always been with the troops in spirit, right . But going into this weeks commemoration, youve been taking hits on the campaign trail from the combat vets in the race. Maybe you saw some of that, mr. President , because this week you told british journalist pierce morgan this about the vietnam war. I was never a fan of that war. Ill be honest with you. I thought it was a terrible war. I thought it was very far away. Youre talking about vietnam and at that time nobody ever heard of the country. Would you like to serve generally . I would not have minded that at all. I would have been honored but i make up for it right now. You, quote, wouldnt have minded serving, mr. Trump . Are you sure about that . Because in 1997 in an interview howard stern, it has you fighting a very different, but for you, comparable war around that time. Ive been so lucky. Right. The department of Justice Informed House Oversight chairman Elijah Cummings it will not imply for the request for more documents about the decision to add a Citizenship Question to the 2020 census. In response, cummings says he and his committee will vote next week on whether to hold attorney general bill barr and commerce secretary wilbur ross in contempt of congress. Now we know that chairman cummings has interviewed former kansas secretary of state, chrisco vac and has the white house interfered aggressively to try to prevent coback from answering questions. Back with me, sirius xm radio host, danielle moodiemills, republican strategist, noelle nikpour, and joining us, former federal prosecutor and msnbc analyst paul butler. Paul, the facts that they are refusing to hand over further documents about this and that the House Oversight committee is to vote on whether or not to hold the attorney general in contempt as well as secretary ross. They cant s what is the legal meaning of this . This is about the Trump Administration deny people the right to vote. This Citizenship Question theyre trying to cover up, if its on the census, its projected it will result in up to 6 million legal voters not being counted and it would greatly expand republican voting strength, which is why the Trump Administration loves it and why theyre telling people so this is political . Its totally political. They have bogus legal claims. There are documents that congressman cummings and seeking involving letters, documents, emails between the trump campaign, the trump inaugural committee, and the justice department, and theyre saying were not going to give you these documents. They have no Attorney Client privilege, they have no executive privilege. This guy who just testified, hes a private citizen. First of all, only the president can claim executive privilege, but thats about protecting conversations between the president and his top officials. It has nothing to do with this coback guy whos just a political flunky who wanted to gerrymander to dilute the voting power. Now, noelle, how do you defend putting this on the census when clearly it has political ramifications and no legal basis or any basis of security of Voting Rights in the United States . If thats that blatant political, how can they think they can walk away and not even supply the documents requested by the congress of the United States . I think were leading up to an Election Year, and i think that they feel that maybe this would not be shining a great light on the situation, so i think, you know, if youve ever realized, when you have an Election Year coming up, when you have things, that if you can continue to keep things tied up, that you can inevitably push them to the side and this never makes the light of day, kind of the similar thing that would be going on if you refuse to testify because what it does is prolongs a process where its not going to be in the forefront of the news. When you see these amount of voters that could be disenfranchised at that time we are fighting to protect Voting Rights, at a time were dealing with american adversaries hacking and trying to influence elections, wouldnt you say real patriots wouldnt not want to mess with potentially 6 million voters who have voted, whove been on the census, whove been counted before . Were not talking about adding people. Theyre talking about subtracting some people . Which has always been the republican m. O. When it comes to election. We saw it in florida, in georgia, and we will see it continue on and on because what republicans know to be true is when more people vote, they lose so their idea around this is to decrease the amount of people that are able to vote, and to either scare them to death so they dont go to the polls, either to scrub their names from the polls, or hide them in a desk like we saw in georgia. But this is not new. The problem here is what i find to be the issue is the fact that democrats dont tie these things together. Every instance of Voter Suppression is somehow new and somehow in a separate silo. No. It is a pattern of aggression that politicians have had since the beginning of time, just in case jim crow and before then, and we dont connect the dots. Our representatives dont connect the dots and thats the problem. Paul, we are talking about and i think our viewers need to understand. Were not talking about the voting rules specifically. Were talking about the census where the voting rolls come from. Because the census determines the population in the state. It determines, then, how congressional and legislative lines are drawn. Thats right. And you can lose resources in those communities, and you can lose the amount of congresspeople based on a reduced population who just didnt go to the census because this question is there and they may have been counted before or afraid to answer the census because they dont want that designation. We can talk about tom hol feller who the Republican National committee paid 2 million to coming up with this plan about this question on the census precisely because it will result in black and latino votes being undercounted, again, to the tune of 6 million. Youre right. Typically their strategy is to run out the clock, which is what theyre doing with the robert mueller. But the Supreme Court court has the case about the census. Yesterday Justice Ginsburg gave a speech in new york, we dont know what case she was talking about, but she says in the next couple weeks there are going to be a lot of closely divided cases that are of the utmost importance. We have five super conservative people on the court. Im glad you brought that up. Thats one of the main reasons the evangelical class kind of looked beyond some of trumps things that he had done because of the Supreme Court and the fact they knew he was going to stack the court in their favor. And stack the court, danielle, in a way that will undermine people being counted. It will bring down the number of congressional districts and state legislative districts that will affect the goods and services and the resources that will go in those districts who really need them. Right. This is about a power grab that the Republican Party is doing and that i constantly tie to their desire to hold onto White Supremacy in this country. It is a power grab. The democratic shift that is inevitable doesnt matter, if white men many power are able to hold onto that power above all else. How do you do that . You do it through the census, through Voter Suppression, through the criminal justice system. Every which way this administration is attacking, over 100 federal judges have been appointed by this president. They are changing the face and confirmed. Theyre changing the face of our educational system. They dont say whether they think brown v. Board of education was decided. He said dont answer. Thank you all. Oh sister its gonna get way weirder. Were one week into pride month. This one centered on the 50th anniversary of the stone wall rites where new York City Police and members of the lbgtq community clashed for multiple days. Now considered the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. This week the nypd apologized for its role in the violence of that week. Three years after president obama named the stone wall in the nations first lgbt monument. But critics have pointed out that the contributions to the events of stone wall by black and brown queer people have been essentially white washed and voided, pointing in particular to the exclusion of two transgender activists from the narrative of stone wall. Last week we learned that those activists, marcia p. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera will be immortalized with their own monuments, which is the city of new york is building as the First Permanent public artwork recognizing transgender women in the world. Joining me now is george m. Johnson, author and columnist who explains why, quote, my stone wall is black in a piece for b. E. T. Digital this week. Why is your stone wall black . Stonestonewall is black hist. That was the main thing i wanted people to understand when i wrote the article. The fact of the matter is when we talk about stonewall today it is oftentimes whitewashed, running rampant with rainbow capitalism where everybody is throwing rainbows on everything but erasing the people who originally began the movement. And again, i say movement now although during those times it was a riot. It was a rebel onby black transgender women who had enough of the police antagonizing them in their queer spaces. So the actual 50year encounter at stonewall was started by black, transgender women. Tell our viewers the story. And so when the police were known back then to riot i mean, excuse me to raid lgbt bars. On that evening in stonewall they did a raid and the black transgender women in the bar had had enough. They fought back against the police that night. In particular, marsha p. Johnson, sylviall as miss major and several other transgender black women fought back against the police who were trying to arrest them that evening. It then led to six Straight Days of rioting against the police and against the queer antagonism that had been going on throughout new york during the 60s. That following year is what led to the commemoration which started cry for aids which led to where we are now with the pride month and everybody is celebrating. But, unfortunately, we continue to erase those who started the actual movement. Why do you think why do you think these omissions occurred . Is it intentional . Is it racist . What is the reason that weve seen the omission up till now where they have been given this permanent artwork in memory of them . I think it is very intentional. When you think about how black history just in general in this country is always erased or its whitewashed or becomes white centered you can talk about Abraham Lincoln freeing the slaves. That is not a true narrative, right . We can talk about how now you have the movie Hidden Figures and the only reason we ever made it to the moon was because of black women. And in 2015 when they did the stonewall movie, although we all knew that these black transgender women started that riot that evening, they whitewashed it and started it and replaced them with white, queer characters, in particular says white men, gay men, as the leaders of that. That is just not what occurred. So even in the progressive movement, we still see racial omissions and exclusions. Absolutely. At the end of the day when you talk about Lgbt Community there are still intersections of being black and queer versus being white and queer. White queer people still have a privilege even within their oppression and so there are times where they will still use their privilege to whitewash a narrative that may be black and queer. My biggest goal, though, was to inform black communities that when we talk about our heroes and we have black History Month that we must include stonewall in that narrative. When you talk about malcolm x and Martin Luther king you should also talk about marsha p. Johnson as well as miss major because they werent just leading an lgbt riot that evening. That was a civil Rights Action they were taking against the police. Because they were targeted because they were lesbians. And transgender. Yes. Which was a form of profiling. Which is a civil rights violation. Absolutely. And then with the intersection of their race being involved, it makes it a blacki issue as wel because if i am a queer person, also a black person, i am both of those things and exist as both of those things. Any time i am fighting for a right as a queer person i am also fighting for that right for black people. All right. Thank you, george m. Johnson. Up next my final thoughts. This is the ocean. This week the dnc had an africanamerican summit, invited me to speak on Voting Rights and civil rights in the hometown of dr. Martin luther king jr. , atlanta, georgia. I came not to endorse a candidate and not to endorse a party but to stand up and say that both the major parties and others must preserve what dr. King stood for Voting Rights, civil rights including criminal justice reform, healthcare, and other items that this country fought and he and others shared blood to achieve. I would say that if im invited to any partys black summit. I huddled with some of the candidates encouraging them to do it. Talked with joe biden and dnc chair tom perez and talked with beto orourke who are among the candidates that came through. It is important that we not marginalize the issues and that Neither Party marginalize, ignore, or take for granted black and brown people. Had the democrats not taken them for granted and ran trying to get voters that are not inclined to vote for them, they may have won some of the States Donald trump triumphed in. And for the republicans, donald trump said, blacks should vote for him, what do we have to lose . Well, mr. President , were losing our civil rights any time you start having situations where Voter Suppression happened as in georgia and where you see cutbacks in healthcare that we disproportionately need and use. We have a lot to lose. What we should not do is lose the attention of the political establishment across the board republican or democrat and we will not lose our voice to be heard. That does it for me. Thanks for watching. Ill see you back here tomorrow at 5 00 p. M. Eastern for another live edition of politics nation. Coming up next, deadline white house with my friend and colleague. Hi everyone. It is 4 00 in new york. Donald trumps soft underbelly has been exposed. Apparently talk of being sent to prison is his real trigger. O for a second straight day the president is ranting about nancy pelosi saying shed rather see him serve time in prison for his alleged crimes than be impeached. Today the president is calling pelosi disgusting and a disgrace with this mid air tweet sent during his journey home from the uk. Quote, nervous nancy pelosi is a disgrace to herself and her family for having made such a disgusting statement e
