Since armed rioters, look at your screen, smashed their way into the u. S. Capitol, and we still have no answers as to why Law Enforcement was not prepared for the assault, despite the fact that rioters had been advertising their intentions online for weeks. We have now heard multiple officials, the d. C. Police chief, the assistant secretary for Homeland Defense and the head of the Fbis Washington Field Office say there was no indication there would be violent protests last wednesday. But heres the thing. That is absolutely false. Nbc has learned the fbi and the nypd sent information directly to the Capitol Police warning them exactly about this could happen. Not only that, look at your screen, all of these articles, all warning about potential violence, all of them were published january 5th. The day before the protests and the resulting riots. As a remember as a reminder, five people died in the violence and we have still not gotten an in person briefing from federal officials to explain what in the world happened, or what is being done to keep it from happening again. I want to bring in tom winter and ken dilanian who have been lifesupport reporting and investigating on all of this. Tell us about the evidence the fbi provided to get Law Enforcement prepared for this. They sent out two bulletins. The first one was sent in the weeks and days leading up to last wednesday, it was sent through operation sentry, the nypds information collaboration and coordination platform they have with a number of Law Enforcement agencies, over 800 as a matter of fact warning about the type of rhetoric and some of the threats they were seeing as it related to january 6th. Then they sent a more detailed, were told, informational packet with the specific threats and the online rhetoric directly to the Capitol Police leading up to last wednesday. Now, i have not seen this particular intelligence product but having seen the products that theyve put out before, i know that they are extensively briefed. Theyre very clear. They have the concrete kind of Background Information that you would want. I would assume they include the actual social media posts. They include analysis. These are warnings that are typically well heeded by Law Enforcement. The nypds Intelligence Bureau routinely outrecruits the nsa and cia and brightest minds of this country to be able to work there, to analyze the information, and to put it together in a cohesive manner to make sure their intelligence products are actually helpful and actionable by Law Enforcement agencies across the country, steph. Ken, i still dont get it. If all of this information was coming in, why is it that we have all these people, including the head of the Fbis Washington Field Office, saying they didnt know it could get this bad . How is this possible . I dont get it either, stephanie. The head of the Washington Field office said there was no indication there was anything but First Amendment protected activity. We know thats false. You showed the stories, the journalism that exposed that as false even before this happened. Now, a senior fbi official told me that while they did know about these social media posts alluding to violence they did not have evidence of a plot, a coherent conspiracy to attack the capitol. But now even thats in question. The New York Times is out this morning reporting on posts on private social media accounts where people were brandishing weapons and talking about which weapons they were going to bring and how they were going to share rides to get to the capitol. So thats really getting close to a conspiracy. And the fbi, their main job, is to protect this country from terrorism, domestic and foreign. So there are real questions here about what did the fbi and other agencies, department of Homeland Security see if the nypd saw it why didnt the fbi see it and if they did why didnt they put out an intelligence bulletin, why didnt they make sure the u. S. Capitol was better protected. Its obvious the Capitol Police failed here, failed to establish a defensive perimeter, didnt have Police Deployed in riot gear. I dont think its fair to blame this entire mess on a 2,000 Member Police force whose main job is to kpreprotect the capit and members of congress. Bear with me, i want to read from a Washington Post interview with steven sund, the Capitol Police chief who resigned after the riots. This is him talking about what happened during the assault on the capitol. Stay with me. Quote, just before 2 00 p. M. The protrump mob entered the capitol. At 2 26 p. M. Seven sund says he joined a Conference Call to the pentagon to plead for additional backup. Quote, i am making an urgent, urgent, immediate request for National Guard assistance, sund recalled saying, on the call were several officials from the d. C. Government as well as officials from the pentagon, including Lieutenant General walter piat, director of the army staff. The d. C. Contingent was flabber gated to hear piatt he could not recommend his boss Ryan Mccarthy approve the request. Quote, i dont like the visual of the National Guard standing a police line with the capitol in the background, piatt said, according to sund and others on the call. So let me get this right. They didnt like the visual . Yeah, stephanie, its outrageous if what the chief is saying is accurate, and i have no reason to believe he is not telling the truth. Hes spoken very highly of in Law Enforcement circles. So, yes, if they didnt like the visual of it, what do they like the visual now of, somebody being taken in a hearse, in a Law Enforcement turnout for somebody, for a Police Officer who has died, is this the visual they preferred instead, the one were looking at on screen . It doesnt make sense to me. In Law Enforcement circles when somebody calls for help in new york, its a 1013, its a 1085 on the radio calls. When that happens, everybody comes running. Theres not a question of, well, you know, what should this look like or how is this . This is somebody who is in trouble and lets think about who hes calling that assistance in for, its not just for his own police, its for the members of congress and the Vice President of the united states. This is a secret symbol of our democracy as Law Enforcement officials have been telling and saying to me since last week, so i really dont understand why, at that moment, theres any sort of question. If you have the chief of the Capitol Police on the line saying i need help, and i need it now, who cares what the pr looks like . Youve got an armed insurrection at the capitol. It just makes no sense to me whatsoever. It is a drastic failure and last week former nypd commissioner bill bratton called for a 9 11 investigation style into this, there are serious questions about the warnings that were missed and response that followed, steph. Gentlemen, thank you, thank you for this important reporting, think about that, worried about the pr, and a Police Officer lost his life, he was beaten over the head with a fire extinguisher. Joining us is chuck rosenberg, the host of the oath podcast, chuck, thank you for being with us, at this point at least 25 domestic terrorism cases have been opened as a result of the assault on the capitol. Should there be a lot more . Probably so, i mean, just looking at the video and listening to the accounts of people who are in that building that day, stephanie, lots of people were committing lots of crimes. And theres two things to keep in mind. We do have to move swiftly, swift is important, but we also have to be thorough and accurate. So i dont mind if Law Enforcement is being thorough and accurate. Theres lots of video footage to review. There are lots of people who need to be interviewed. There will be more cases brought. Im confident of that. Lets do it as quickly as we can, but lets do it as accurately as we can. Congressman jason crow said this morning that this is the birth of a domestic terrorist movement. Do you agree with that . No, i think that was born a long time ago. This is another iteration of a domestic terrorist movement. By the way we need to get a lot more serious in this country about clamping down on domestic terrorism. There are gaps in federal law that need to be filled and we need to think about it more seriously, and more assiduously. We need to be pushing very, very hard, stephanie, to bring charges, whether state or federal, against these rioters, not protesters, rioters. What do you make of concerns that members of Law Enforcement, or even the military, were part of this mob . Yeah, ive heard those reports, and thats deeply concerning to me. If thats true, and i hope its not, but if its true, we absolutely they absolutely have to be punished. Theyre no different, theyre no better than those who were in the building rioting and assaulting and threatening. You know, to me, i always keep in mind the vast majority of men and women who are in Law Enforcement, that are in it for the right reasons, that doesnt mean we dont have bad cops, and if we had bad cops helping these rioters, thats extraordinarily dangerous, and so i hope theyre punished to the full extent of the law, the only thing i would caution, stephanie, as with anybody, is no rush to judgment. Lets get this thing right. If people have to pay the consequences legally, they ought to pay it but lets get it right. Chuck, look at these flags. Many, many people were there, and marched in the name of the president. He instructed people to go to the capitol, as did his son don jr. At the georgia rally days before the password at that rally was see you january 6th. How do you keep from this happening again . These people havent calmed down. They just left the building. No, they havent calmed down. And i hope theyve left the building for good. So one reaction is that Law Enforcement has to really come down extraordinarily hard on these people. All of them and that goes back to our conversation about doing it both quickly and accurately. We also need the tone set from the top, this president , President Trump, is utterly failed as a leader, morally failed as a leader. And im hoping, and i have great confidence in joe biden setting the right tone from the top. But remember, stephanie, we have always had in the shadows of this country, some number of people who are racist, anti semitic, right, who are, you know, extraordinarily dangerous, neonazis, white supremacists, theyve always been there. The problem right now is that President Trump has given them breath, has given them life, has given them voice. And so the tone from the top will not solve everything, but it has to change and it has to change immediately. Fortunately its going to change next week. The president treated that day as a celebration. His daughter ivanka trump called them patriots. Remember, people were wearing tshirts reading camp oush witz. Chuck, thank you so much for joining us. As much as we have talked about what went wrong last week in terms of Law Enforcement leadership its really important to recognize all the good work done and specifically last week this one American Hero on your screen right now, this officer single handedly held back a group of rioters on wednesday, and prevented the violence from getting much, much worse, right about here he got to the top of the stairs, he saw that the Senate Chamber on his left was open. Thats where members of congress were and he took action. He shoved the lead rioter in front of all the others and got them to follow him away from the chamber while it was still being locked down. He used himt as bait, a human shield to protect the senate. If he didnt do that, who knows what could have happened . Please think about that. And lets be grateful. Coming up next hours from now congress will be taking the first step to try to remove President Trump from office. Plus, it is not just congress, private companies, Corporate America cutting off donations to some republicans. Why this move is a whole lot bigger than just money. [sizzling] i may not be able to tell time, but i know what time it is. [whispering] its Grilled Cheese oclock. Laso you can enjoy it even ifst youre sensitive. Se. But i know what time it is. This morning, days after the attack on capitol hill, congress is taking its First Official step to try to remove President Trump from office. Voting on a bill that would call on Vice President pence to invoke the 25th amendment. If that doesnt work Speaker Pelosi says the house will move forward with impeachment sometime this week. This, as more republicans are now saying the president has got to go. I think the best way for our country, chuck, is for the president to resign and go away as soon as possible. I acknowledge that may not be likely, but i think that would be best. So you think it was an Impeachable Offense . Oh, sure. I think if inciting insurrection isnt, then i dont really know what is. Our team has all of the latest covered on this. Leanne caldwell on the hill, Kristen Welker at the white house. What will todays vote look like, will it have impact . Stephanie, this is the first day of a week of trying to hold the president and his allies accountable for what happened last week. Whats going to happen today is a democrat is going to call or offer what is called unanimous consent. That is to try to vote the resolution or push the resolution through the house without a vote. We expect a republican to block it so whats going to happen then is theyre going to come back tomorrow, then, and then force a vote where members are going to have to go on the record, on if they support, calling on Vice President pence to start the process of the 25th amendment. So that could be a very difficult vote for some of these republicans, and thats ultimately what Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats want to do. They want to put republicans on the record, on what where they stand on this, and at first they want to put the onus on Vice President mike pence to do something. He was in that chamber. He was also rushed away when the mob was approaching the senate floor. And so if he doesnt do anything, that is when Speaker Pelosi says that she will move to impeach the president , and then theres other resolutions as well, talking about Holding Members of congress who were close to the president inciting the Electoral College count opposition that they might be held accountable to. Theres a lot of anger on capitol hill right now, steph, and it is not dissipating. It is only increasing as the days pass, as we see more and more evidence of what actually happened last wednesday. Democrats are intent on Holding People accountable, stephanie. Thats an important reminder, this pushback against lawmakers is not about them expressing their ideology, its about inciting violence. Kristen, i want to stay on vp pence, what are you hearing from your sources about his thinking on invoking the 25th amendment. Weve heard from a number of familiar with the Vice President s thinking. He at this point in time is not inclined to invoke the 25th amendment. There are just a handful of days left in office and there are real concerns about, one, the practicality, two, getting a majority of cabinet members to get on board. And three, about the potential backlash that it could cause. But what we also know, steph, is that there have been mounting tensions between President Trump and the Vice President. For example, we confirmed over the weekend that President Trump didnt reach out to pence while he was sheltering at the capitol during the attack, didnt reach out to check on his family and that the two men have not spoken since and were told that pence is quite fraus ratustrated by t that the president didnt reach out. We are seeing these Tensions Mount between these two men which is striking, is it even, because, of course, pence was the president s most loyal ally. He had no more loyal ally than the Vice President. Now, at the same time these who are close to pence, who are supportive of pence, believe as though the way in which he has handled all of this could only help his chances politically in the future but the bottom line, there is a real chill between these two men as we get closer to President Trump leaving office. Im also told, steph that while Vice President pence said he is going to attend the inauguration, thats according to a person familiar with his thinking, we are told that President Trump, and he has announced, is not going to attend and that he may leave washington before inauguration day, steph. President elect biden said he is certainly okay with that. Kristen, leigh ann, thank you. I want to go in deeper and discuss, anna, there is fear that as important as impeachment may be, at least symbolically, it would delay bidens ability to get covid and other legislation passed, legislation this country needs. I want to share what congressman jim clyburn said over the weekend. Well take the vote that we should take in the house. It could go over 100 days. Lets give president elect biden the hundred days he needs to get his agenda off and running and maybe well send the articles sometime after that. Okay, send the articles of impeachment after that . Why move forward once trump is out of office . Whats the point . Well, i think its a hard, you know, argument the democrats are trying to make here, theyre trying to say they must move forward by wednesday, but then, wait, were going to let joe biden get started with his agenda. I understand what theyre trying to do because they want to have the senate move forward with impeachment, eventually, so that he cannot get his government pension, so he cant run again in 2024, so there is some retribution for inciting this mob but i do think its a little bit of a tricky argument to be making to the American People when you say, okay, you know, yes, weve got to go super fast, but then, oh, well do it at a leisurely pace in the senate. Jake, normally corporate leaders, Corporate America hates weighing in on politics, its a hornets nest. The president is leaving office in a week. We are seeing a number of corporations take a stand against republicans, those who specifically objected to the Electoral College results, they dont normally do this. What do you make of this happening . Well, stephanie, i think the reputational hazard at the moment with aligning yourself with people who in some way, shape or form, lets take the lowest common denominator here in some way, shape or form encouraged this protest, not a protest, it was a mob, it turned into a mob, we were under siege here in the capitol and i think, listen, a lot of people generally speaking question whether Kevin Mccarthy and the Republican Leadership that were going to be able to mount a Good Campaign effort, a valiant fund raising effort with all these companies saying that they wont give to republicans. Now, listen, steph, because this is really interesting to me and i think youll find it interesting as well, some of these banks are saying theyre going to pause all political giving. Theyre saying theyre both siding it, not giving to republicans or democrats, that is an interesting way to go about this. Im not sure i can tell you, from my email traffic on my cell phone this morning in my texts, democrats are pretty furious about that, theyre saying why should we be lumped in with republicans, maybe its a way to not give to democrats at all but listen its pretty unbelievable, the reputational harm that these institutions feel they have at hand, for associating themselves with republicans. Of course its always important to note, they might not be giving directly. We do not know where or how theyre giving to superpacs but Corporate America pays very, very close attention to the pul pulse of america and the fact that theyre making a move like this, which is very different from where they were on election day just a couple months ago means theyre paying attention to the shift in our country. Anna, you write in punch bowl news that Kevin Mccarthy has a call with his colleagues today and hes got a huge problem, explain. Kevin mccarthy is going to struggle here because he decided to vote against certification of the election and go with his members where there was a bulk of membership there, but right now i think theres a big question, not only in the fund raising part, but also just in general, in the next two years, is he the guy to lead them to what they hope will be a House Majority when he has tied himself so closely over the past four years to donald trump. Theres probably been no member of congress in the Republican Party that has been as close of an ally to donald trump, and really played upon that for the last four years of his relationship, that he was going to, you know, have these ties to trump, and it worked for him, certainly, in the beginning of the trump administration, and at the end hes really in a perilous position right now. Its clear republicans are saying this isnt the party of trump. Jake, you have been speaking to lawmakers, their aides since wednesday, you, yourself, were inside the capitol. How shaken are people in washington . Stephanie, this is the rare incident that is getting worse with time, right, we in the heat of the moment, it was awful, but now that were seeing videos and the extent to which i just got a text message from a member of the house and im going to look at my phone quickly now who said to me, im beginning the more i watch, the more i understand this was an attempted coup. Thats a republican member of the house who just texted me that. I think people are watching videos like this and seeing people outside with binoculars and fatigues and military outfits and were realizing our government, our institution has failed us. I dont know who deserves most of the blame on the security side. Obviously the Capitol Police were not adequately prepared, probably a lot of that has to do with leadership. Its a failure on so many profound levels here, just absolutely a stunning failure, you know, by our political leaders as well, i think people are to say theyre shaken is an understatement, stephanie, for people like mccarthy, and people in the Republican Party, and just the leadership generally, there needs to be a meaningful reflection on how we got to this point from a political and substantive point of view. A reflection indeed. Anna, jake, thank you both so much. Weve got a lot to cover. Leave it there. Breaking this morning, one of the biggest social media platforms used by the radical right is now completely offline. Im talking about parlor. It is often referred to as the twitter for conservatives. But it is not. It is so much more than that. Amazon terminated parlors Web Hosting Services after it was banned on both the apple and Google App Stores for failing to curb violent and threatening content from its platform. Thats a whole lot more than conservative media chatter. The tech giants say supporters of President Trump used parlor to express hatred and threaten violence that culminated in wednesdays riot at the u. S. Capitol. Ben collins covered this information and extremism online for nbc news. Ben, for people who dont know, tell us exactly what parlor is. Yeah, parlor is basically a twitter clone, but the idea is, its a safe space for trump supporters. Its not a safe space for all speech, lynn wood, who is one of those trump supporters, hes had a lot of those posts taken down from parlor. Its not fully a free speech platform but it does invite the more radical element, maybe by happenstance. And you get this, you get these sort of wild threats that havent stopped since the 6th. A lot of people planned these attacks for the 6th but theyre now planning further attacks on the platform and thats why it was taken down last night. The ceo was on fox business saying theres no evidence parlor had anything to do with inciting such violence or was a platform that was used. What is the fallout youre seeing online . Well, you know, people who were using parlor are very upset, theyre moving to platforms like telegram, an encrypted service that a lot of terrorist groups use, isis was the first big terrorist group to use telegram. You cant get taken off of telegram. Its really the point. Theyre moving to other websites more explicitly protrump, things called the donald. Those places are frankly harder to organize, harder to use, harder to sign up for and, you know, this is a big blow to people who were planning Something Else because now they have to move to what theyre calling, you know, life rafts, theyre called one of them is called the parlor life raft and they have tens of thousands of followers on there. Its harder to do stuff now for those people planning another insurrection. Ben, thank you. I want to bring in kara swisher, New York Times contributor, host of the podcast way and pivot, kara, good to have you here, your timing was extraordinary. You spoke to parlors ceo immediately following the riots, he said they werent to blame. He just said the same thing on fox business, whats your takeaway . He said more. He put out a press release, which was surprising, saying he didnt what he said was not what he said. You know, i feel a little strange, because what he said is what he meant to say, he did the awful thing that a ceo did which is he came on and told the truth to my questions. So i dont know what to say about what hes saying now, he said i gave the impression that somehow i dont care. I think you just have to listen to it, thats you will and i gave him plenty of space to talk. I did not interrupt him, i wanted to be illuminated about his theories and he said them and its now getting problems for him. He said the quiet part out loud. You know, i dont like seeing businesses taken down but he doesnt monitor that site and it was used for organization of this coup attempt. And so its not my its not my issue that there should be a free speech platform but they do have to monitor if they want to use the Vendor Services of things like amazon. All kinds of payment platforms. If they want to use these things, these businesses shouldnt have to serve a company they think is promoting terrorism. I dont understand why hes so indignant that they dont want to do business with him. We actually have that audio of what he told you. Lets play it because its important for people to hear his exact words, especially now that hes trying to recharacterize them. Lets play that. Look, if it was legalillegal organized and against the law, they would have gotten it taken down. I dont feel responsible and neither should the platform considering were on neutral town square that adheres to the law. If people are organizing something, thats more of a problem of people are upset, they feel disenfranchised. They need their leaders to stop provoking this partisan hate. They need to come together and have a discussion on a place like parler. So hes not acknowledging their role in any way . No, not at all. What was interesting about it is during the interview he made several allegations about things like the New York Times promotes looting that was just untrue and i said thats untrue, thats 100 untrue, and he said well, some people say, which i was like, oh, wow, youve learned from the best, i said no people say. And i ultimately started saying he goes some people feel then, kara, i was like feelings arent facts. Thats whats going on here. You know, its a very interesting platform for sure, but the difficulties of moderation, as you know, have been a problem on facebook, its been a problem on twitter and theyve spent enormous amounts of money because, you know as you saw in myanmar or india for facebook, when you let these things go unregulated and unmoderated to some extent the illegal stuff really bubbles up. And so thats what you have to do and he has these juries that make no sense and dont scale where juries of people on parler of five people get to things. They didnt get to any of the problematic posts, such as lynn woods, several others, not even several, theres a zillion others. Theyre system is laughable in some ways. Laughable until it would cost peoples lives. Right. For so long the big Tech Companies were hesitant to do anything. Apple, google, amazon, dropping parler, facebook and twitter dropping the president. Is it that these Companies Realize democrats have complete control of the federal government and they know who their new daddy is and they dont want to be regulated. Daddy. You know, its interesting because you and i talked about this on pivot last week, when i said theres going to be violence. You said why do you think that, its because ive been reading parler, reading all these things and im like theres going to be violence here and im nervous about violence. I didnt specifically say the capitol and thats what i thought they were going to try to do something to the representatives, i didnt want my kids to go up there, they were discussing organization of an attack on the capitol, on those sites. Thats why i said that. I remember you were surprised. And so, you know, one thing is they all should have been monitoring all these things. Its the slow drip over years and years and years that President Trump was allowed to radicalize these people, and then push the button on incitement. At that speech. Its not just on these services. That speech was really they had a group of people riled up and he gave them marching orders, he used twitter and other vehicles to do so. Its part of a longterm thing and so i think these companies, as weve talked about, have been incredibly slow to do anything. And so three years, and whatever months later, almost to the end, is when they act, i find that to be a problem for these companies. I dont want to hear their righteousness about parler. Theyre culpable. But theyre trying to use parler as an excuse for the things they didnt do themselves. That you are absolutely right that the Biden Administration is going to come in here and hand them their heads in that regard. What is your take on a growing list of corporations now pulling, at least for now, their contributions, either from the Republican Party in some cases, both, and even the pga, cancelling the championship at trumps on its face, whats your take, because i do remember months ago when all these Companies Said were not going to work with face book, for a second. Yeah, right, i mean, theyre for trump until theyre against trump, im sorry, if you know trump helped them with tax cuts, helped them with deregulatory stuff. Im quite cynical, unlike you, stephanie, the optimist, this is about business and it doesnt look good to be in business with terrorists. Whats interesting too is the narrative that a lot of people are trying to change, lets move along, ignore the attack on capitol hill, theyre trying to change it into a narrative about censorship. I think thats a reasonable thing, if youre a ceo. I compare it to i dont know if you remember when there was a big case about the Christian Baker didnt want to make gay wedding cakes, wedding cakes for gay people. You know twitter or apple or the others dont want to make a gay they want to make gay wedding cakes, they dont want to make a terrorist wedding cake, essentially. This is businesses. When people like i dont know, lots of people, lindsey graham, talk about madison, the new young representative, this has to be forced on people to do it they shouldnt be forced to do business with people they dont want to do business with. Thats called socialism if you do that, in their minds. These are private businesses that should be able to make any decision they want and the same things goes for the parler ceo. If he wants to come on my podcast and say he doesnt have responsibility, he has to take the consequences of what that means, he said something that was the truth and its now started hes gotten hes dealt with the consequences and the consequences arent good. He cant go around screaming about lack of fairness because he had plenty of fairness, its just what he said they didnt like. Kara swisher, always good to see you. The one and only kara swisher, what timing to sit down with the parler ceo. Coming up, we still cannot forget while all of this is happening we are in the throes of a pandemic. Sadly, the person running the executive branch is a deranged unhinged dangerous president of the united states, and that only a number of days until we can be protected from him but he has done something so serious that there should be prosecution against him. And this morning questions remain about the security failures at the capitol and who needs to be held responsible. Joining me mow to discuss new York Democratic congressman Sean Patrick Maloney. He was in the House Chamber on wednesday as rioters tried to break through the door. Congressman, you and your colleagues are pushing ahead on removing the president from office. Why is this the most important thing to do, above covid legislation . Well, i think a better question would be, why was the president focused on a violent insurrection when he should have been focused on fighting the pandemic. I mean, are you really going to ask us why were focused on a violent overthrow of the legislative branch . I mean, the potential killing of the Vice President of the speaker of the house, of those of us in the House Chamber. I mean, stephanie, you know, respectfully, you know, we are going to address this appropriately and the president could make it easy and do the right thing and resign. That would be good. The Vice President in the cabinet could allow us to focus on the pandemic by invoking the 25th amendment and having the president removed immediately. But if left no other choice, yeah, were going to stand up for the constitution over that mob that killed a Capitol Police officer and the Biden Administration can get the fda and the nih and the other organs of the federal government in the game on mass vaccinations at the same time. We can do both, and we will. The fastest way to get this country back on track, whether its the pandemic, or whether its our constitution, and our way of government, is to remove this president. Does it run the risk that it gives President Trump everything he wants . His number one desire is to have all the attention and to have a big fight. He loves to be the victim, and it would put republicans who want him to disappear in a position where theyre forced to defend him. No, no, and i would really encourage democrats not to make this about what democrats might do wrong. I think we should stay focused on whether republicans are going to know right from wrong, and whether some of them will stand up and be counted. I think the 25th amendment gives the Vice President and the republican cabinet officials the opportunity to do the right thing. They should take it. I dont hold out much hope for the president resigning, i do hold out some hope for some republicans in the house and senate who stood with us on the Electoral College to stand with us on our constitution, instead of siding with that mob. But i want every republican to be held accountable. I want a roll call. And it will either be a roll call of honor or it will be a roll call of infamy if they vote to side with that mob. Many of those republicans didnt just stand shoulder to shoulder with you on that vote. They were crouched in corners hiding with you, as you feared for your lives last wednesday. At this point none of you have been briefed by Law Enforcement. Any explanation why . No, and its infuriating. Im the chairman of the Democratic Congressional campaign committee, there was a bomb outside our office, a real one, not some suspicious package, an ied, there was also one at the rnc, we dont know why. Those could have been diversionary devices. I still not have had a briefing from the secret service, from Capitol Police, its completely unacceptable. This is a building where members of congress routinely come and go, there are hundreds of young staffers who work there on a normal basis, there was security people who had to be evacuated who thankfully acted responsibly and heroically in discovering the package and managing the situation. They were in harms way. I want to know what the hells going on. These officials need to brief us immediately. Wow, will you be asking for a formal investigation . Yes, we need a thorough investigation, and that can take some time and i thank god that were going to have the gavels in the hands of people in both houses of congress who want that done properly and were going to have a president controlling the executive branch so that theres no game playing in the executive branch or brown people who are looking out for their careers or worried about worried about reprisals. We wont have to rely on whistleblowers, i think we will be able to get the executive branch clear on exactly what happened, disclose it to congress, write it up in a fair report, working with with fairminded republicans in a bipartisan way because i think this is important that we establish concretely, like after 9 11, like after the assassination of john kennedy, what happened here. It must never happen again. I dont mean to get personal, but you are a husband and a father as well as a congress person. You are in recess right now, but nancy pelosi has said be on stand by. Would you feel safe going back to work today . Yeah, id feel safe going back to work today. I want to be able to tell my kids that they wont have to, you know, lay awake at night worrying about it. They were scared. Theyre watching this stuff on tv. I was in that House Chamber, i was on the other side of that door when those people were breaking down the glass. I saw it and i heard the shots when they shot that intruder. The fact is that we were moments away. The capitol people need to understand we were surrounded in the House Chamber on three sides. There were some heroic actions by staff who barricaded the door with furniture, crand on the senate side that Capitol Police officer lured that mob away because what was going on on the other side of those doors was senators and members of congress were being escorted down internal stairways to safety, but it was about 60 seconds earlier, if they had gotten there 60 seconds earlier and breached those doors you who have had a mass hostage situation in a might still be going on with dozens of members of congress, including high profile people like my friend adam schiff in the hands of these lunatics and if we had had that type of scene play out it could have been even more tragic. I want people to remember that. And i want every republican to be held accountable for whether they are going to take this seriously. It is the same pernicious lie that they spread on the house floor around the election being stolen that led to this violence. They must take responsibility and do the right thing now. This isnt about both sides, this isnt about politics. Its about national security. Can i tell you something . Yes. One more thing. Those corporations that are suspending contributions from both parties, well, that pisses me off, stephanie. Id like to ask those corporations what the democrats did wrong this week and why theyre going to take this position that they should withhold contributions equally have the people who incited that mob and those of us who have been just trying to follow our constitution and our laws. This is not a time to say, oh, both sides did it. What the hell did the democrats do this week except stand up for the constitution and the rule of law . And i think those corporations have been playing footsie with this administration for years. They should get clear. If they want to get some credit for not supporting this kind of activity then they should get clear on who did it. Im sorry, but i think its outrageous to have some moral equivalency that this is some sort of both sides do it nonsense. What is that about . Congressman, your voice is certainly going to be heard today. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me and please stay safe. You bet. Before we go, weve got more to cover today because we just talked about the raging pandemic that the president is absolutely not focusing on and we right here cannot forget about it. Right now vaccines are moving across the country and they cannot come soon enough. We are 11 days into the new year and already over 29,000 people have died from the virus with over 2 million newly confirmed cases, but so far less than 7 million doses have been given in the united states, that is not even a third of whats been distributed nationwide. Meanwhile, hospitals are overwhelmed in places like arizona with the state topping 600,000 cases and 10,000 deaths over the weekend. Nbcs cori coffin is at the Arizona Cardinals football stadium in cardinal and we are in sarasota florida. Arizona moving into the next phase of the vaccine plan. What is the stadium doing to prepare . Reporter we have the stadium right behind us where they play football. In this parking lot is where officials have spent the last week putting all of this together, stephanie. You can see the flags up. This is how the cars will be weaving in and out of this parking lot, similar to what weve seen in the long, Long Food Bank lines over the summer and into the fall. All of this is set to get started later on this afternoon with a kickoff event vaccinating some teachers and Law Enforcement. You can see the tents at the very end of this parking lot, that is where they will be doing the actual mass vaccinations. Now, of course, they still are in phase 1a of vaccinating the frontline workers and other health care workers, expanding into this 1b phase is going to include people over 75, Law Enforcement, some teachers and other essential workers, stephanie. That will all begin today with up to 6,000 a day once everything gets going fully with a 24 7 operation. Stephanie . Antonia, the Health Department in sarasota is using event bright to schedule vaccinations for seniors. I have to tell you if that were the case in new jersey i promise my mom and dad they dont know how to use that. Reporter thats right, stephanie. Its been a complicated rollout here. I mean, in the absence of a toward nated comprehensive Vaccine Distribution plan at the federal and state level some counties have had to get creative and sarasota has turned to event bright. This is a site better known for competitive tickets to parties and concerts not so much for Health Care Services and so some of the Senior Citizens here who are already eligible to get the vaccine are really frustrated. This he feel like their opportunity to get the vaccine is being treated the way a bouncer might treat tickets to a party. To give you a sense of the demand, about 4,900 vaccines are on hand here in the county initially and on the first day they announced this they saw 167,000 page visits. Take a listen to this conversation i had with a senior here in sarasota. We just kept clicking and clicking and clicking. Refreshing, refreshing, refreshing, and you get this little bar that says, okay, we got your request, looking for your tickets, here is your ticket. We never got to that third bar. So its patience, dumb luck, a lottery system. Reporter the county tells us that soon they are going to have a call in phone line available for seniors like mr. Conway who you saw there and that cant come soon enough as mr. Conway actually used to be a Computer Programmer for 40 years and even he cant get through event bright right now. That gives you a sense of how challenging this has been in the early days of the rollout, stephanie. Thank you so much. We will keep you up on this vaccination rollout, but that wraps us up this hour. Im stephanie ruhle. Hallie jackson picks up coverage next. M stephanie ruhle.
