He said the Current Situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as i would like. Although my posting is not due to end until the end of this year, i believe in the current circumstances, the responsible course is to allow the appointment of a new ambassador. This is not entirely a surprise, of course, jeff, because you had the president lashing out at the ambassador, calling him wacky, calling him a very stupid guy, and so the sense was that the two just couldnt work together, and President Trump, of course, had essentially disinvited him from a big dinner earlier this week that he was supposed to attend. So, again, this is significant because the United States has no closer ally than the u. K. , but as you know, as weve covered so closely, jeff, there have been a lot of tensions between the president and Prime Minister theresa may, the outgoing Prime Minister, so this just adding fuel to the fire. But again, essentially, the British Ambassador saying, jeff, that it is untenable for him to hold onto this position. Right, and it had been a question of when, not if he would step down. Whats the reaction from the white house so far, kristen . Reporter we had a chance to speak it mark short about this a short time ago, and he said, essentially, look, the writing was on the wall. This is what was anticipated because of the fact that you had these leaked cables. Because President Trump was lashing out at the British Ambassador. Take a listen to what he had to say. I think the reality was that in light of the last few days, his ability to be effective was probably limited so it was probably the right course. Reporter so i think youre going to hear more of that line coming from the administration, and frankly, from the president himself. The question becomes who will replace him and what type of working relationship will that person have . Prime minister theresa may, by the way, has been largely supportive but support tifr ive this decision. To significant decisions here as the Ambassador Says he is stepping down ahead of time amid this controversy and those leaked words that we have from the ambassador himself, jeff. Kristen welker, thanks to you. Now to the fastmoving developments in the escalating controversy surrounding labor secretarial dy Alexander Acosta. He is being asked to resign over his plea deal with jeff epstein in 2008. The president is sticking up for him. I feel bad for Alexander Acosta because he is someone that has done a good yob ajob a worked so hard. I feel bad for that situation. Acosta is also saying, quote, the crimes committed by epstein are horrific and i am pleased that new york prosecutors are moving forward with a case based on new evidence. But secretary acosta isnt just facing fire from democrats, because look, nbc news has also learned hes facing a battle from officials inside the Trump Administration with longheld concerns about his job performance, specifically what they per receivceive as a lack urgency to deregulating. Politico is also reporting that acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney is denying the president to assist acosta, saying the growing outrage in the plea deal for epstein would hurt the administration. Thats according to two people familiar with the administration. All of this as epstein wakes up behind bars here in new york this morning charged with sex trafficking dozens of young girls. Hes pleaded not guilty. Nbcs Savannah Guthrie spoke exclusively to a new accuser this morning who is not related to the ongoing case. She says epstein raped her when she was 15, but she didnt go to the authorities because she was too afraid. Look at this. He, you know, very forcefully kind of brought me to the table and i just did what he told me to do. I was really scared. I didnt necessarily think that he was going to rape me. Did he hold you there . Yeah, uhhuh. No question in your mind, he knew you did not want that to happen . Oh, yeah. No, he definitely there was no way. I was like i dont want to say i was screaming or anything of that nature, but i was terrified and i was telling him to stop. Please stop, you know. And did he . No, he did not stop. He had no intentions of stopping, and thats what he wanted, thats what he got. Nbc news has reached out to epsteins attorneys for comment, but they have not responded to our requests. And in previous discussions with jennifer avo sdplrzas lawyers, epsteins attorneys have challenged her credibility. Jim curser. We also have jeff lieu. Jim acosta is National Political reporter for the washington post. And jessica roth here with me at the table is the former southern prosecutor for the district of new york. Jim acosta, i want to start with the politics on this. Acosta is catching heat not just from democrats but also inside the white house who feel acosta has not done enough to push the trump agenda at the Labor Department, and that the epstein fallout could provide a pretext to push acosta to the exits. What are the sources in the white house telling you not just about the growing pressure on acosta, but more importantly, where the president stands on all of this . Based on my conversations with trump advisers, the chief of staff have had intentions in recent months about the pace of deregulation at the department of labor. Mick mulvaney coming out of the house of representatives, a conservative hardliner. He would like to see more done, has been frustrated with acosta at times and how things have proceeded on policy. The president is aware of this but he also likes acosta personally in the sense he sees him as a loyal, hard worker, someone who doesnt steal the spotlight from the president. At this moment some trump confidants say trump will let this play out, but if it plays out in an unfavorable way toward the secretary, he could walk away. Weve seen this with Previous Administration officials. This process takes its time and ultimately the official could step away. Scott pruitt comes to mind, right, where the president dug in for weeks and weeks and weeks until he eventually just gave up. Glen, i want to turn to you because you posted something on twitter that caught my eye this morning. You said the Available Evidence makes it clear that secretary acosta should be investigated to criminally violate the criminal rights act. Unpack that for us. Jeff, lets briefly walk through this together. So the crime victim rights act also referred to as the victims bill of rights is in the federal code. Its 18usc1871. It says the victims, quote, have a right to be informed in a timely manner of any plea bargain or deferred prosecution agreement. That would be the nonprosecution agreement in this case. Now, the miami herald doing some great reporting got some email traffic between thenu. S. Attorney acosta and epsteins legal team, namely jay lefkowitz. Heres what the email reads. Quote, in a letter sent by lefkowitz memorializing the meaning, the miami herald reported he thanked acosta for making out a deal with the u. S. Attorney not to contact any of the individuals identified, the potential witnesses or the potential civil claimants. That would be the victims. Jeff, that is more than just a smoking gun showing that acosta conspired with lefkowitz and perhaps others to violate the crime victims rights act. It might as well be a Surveillance Video of acosta at the firing range unloading, figuratively speaking, and killing the rights of these crime victims. That really indicates an investigation must be opened into what acosta did to deny these victims their rights back in 2008. And jessica roth, acosta is defending himself. I want to read for you a few of the tweets he put out yesterday and get your reaction. He says this. With the evidence available more than a decade ago, federal prosecutors insisted that epstein go to jail, register as a sex offender and put the world on notice that he is a sexual predator. Now that new evidence and additional testimony is available, the new york prosecution offers an important opportunity to more fully bring him to justice. But look, the miami herald Investigative Reporter julie k. Brown, she spent more than two years investigating this case and interviewing more than 60 girls saying epstein sexually abused them. She responded directly to acostas tweet and she says this. Accept the record shows you had the evidence in 2007. Remember 53page indictment, the foh phone polls, the witnesses that worked for epstein . Whats your point on that and the statement glen just made . Acosta is saying in those tweets that the reason he went forward was that the evidence was somehow lacking. Therefore, the deal that he got which was very lenient and unusual in many respects was the best outcome under the circumstances because it ensured that epstein went to jail for some period of time and that he register as a sex offender. The problem is its really hard to reconcile that position with evidence thats come to light through reporting with the miami herald and other sources, including litigation, and civil litigation in florida and elsewhere brought by the victims. It does seem there was extensive evidence available, efficient for his line prosecutors to draft that indictment that was over 50 pages that included multiple serious federal felonies. So even though there does appear to be new evidence in the new york charges and the new York Attorney said as much, its not clear that the evidence was insufficient at the time in florida, and i think that acosta is going to have to do more explaining. Chris lew, i want to draw on your experience as secretary of labor during the Obama Administration. The Labor Department, it turns out, actually has a role in coordinating antiHuman Trafficking efforts, but apparently the Trump Administration is rolling that back. Is that right . Thats exactly right. The department of labor is one of the lead federal agencies in fighting trafficking not only here in the United States but around the world. It puts out an annual report on child labor and forced labor around the world. And here in the United States, labor inspectors are often the first people on the scene who encounter victims of trafficking. And just in the past two weeks, this Labor Department under acosta put a moratorium on granting potential visas to victims of trafficking and has now added an additional bureaucratic step in the process that might potentially delay for weeks and even months these victims getting protection. Already when youre inspecting workplaces and youre relying on undocumented immigrants who might be witnesses, theyre going to be reluctant to come forward now that you make it more difficult for them to get protection. Its less likely theyll come forward. And when youre dealing with trafficking, time is of the essence. These people can be shifted around to other places. And the irony of all this is donald trump has tried to say that fighting Human Trafficking is one of his highest priorities, and yet his secretary of labor seem to be taking steps going in the opposite direction. And speaking of acosta, the president is trying to distance himself from Jeffrey Epstein. Take a look at this. Do you think Jeffrey Epstein is a terrific guy . I knew him in palm beach like the people in palm beach knew him. He was a fixture in palm beach. I had a falling out a long time ago. I dont think ive spoken to him for 15 years. I was not a fan. A long time ago, i would say maybe 15 years. I was not a fan of his, that i can tell you. I was not a fan of his. So the president says hes not a fan of epsteins, they had a falling out a long time ago. Does that hold up, bob . The president knew him in palm beach, like he said. There was some kind of business dealing that created a fallout situation about a decade ago. Ive spoken to sam nunberg, a former Trump Campaign adviser who said he was asked by epstein and his advisers and he said, oh, that relationship has fallen apart. It doesnt change that they had a relationship in the mid90s, the late 90s and they were fixtures in palm beach. He has pleaded not guilty. What happens next . The next case is the bail hearing with the judge, and thats happening july 15. The government has already made clear theyre seeking detention pretrial. The defense has said theyre going to fight that. Theyve explained their reasons for seeking detention including his Extensive International contacts, his u. S. Contacts, his means to be able to flee should he so choose, and they also talked about evidence of attempts to obstruct justice in the past and a concern that he might do so, try to intimidate witnesses were he to remain out of custody. So the next big thing will be that bail hearing on july 15th, because one of the factors the court will consider is also the strength of the governments evidence. Were going to hear more from the government about that evidence, including the corroborating evidence of the victims testimo victims testimony. Im sure well hear more about those nude or partially nude photographs at his residence contemporaneous with his arrest. So that bail hearing will be interesting. My thanks to all of you. Glen, stay with me because were going to shift topics now and talk about how, for the second time in two weeks, the Trump Administration has lost a legal fight surrounding his attempt to add a Citizenship Question to the census. Why did the judge shoot him down, glenn . Our judicial system remains strong. We see that over and over again with the way they handle these challenges, whether its a subpoena battle or a census battle. Judge furman made it clear hes not going to indulge what i can only call bait and switch. What you have 11 doj attorneys making representations about how its so urgent that this matter has to be resolved by june 30th so they can print the census in a timely manner, now the government moves to take all 11 of those attorneys off the case and bring a whole new team in. Why . I suspect its because when we heard at one of the previous hearings these doj lawyers saying things like, you know what, im trying to figure out, judge, what in the world is going on . Because theyre responding to the president s tweets that are contradicting the positions theyre taking in court. So now theyre trying to get that team out of court, bring a whole new team in so they can start making what may be different representations. And the judge said, im not standing for it. Youre the lawyers, youve made representations, youre going to stay here unless you give me a written, sworn affidavit explaining why you need to get off. I think thats exactly the right position for judge furman to be taking so he can continue to maintain some consistency and hold the governments feet to the fire to remain consistent with the positions theyve been taking. And glenn, look, when we talk about the census, were not just talking about the census, were also talking about power and politics. The census is the thing that determines how billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated. It can be used to draw congressional districts. And when it comes to this specific Citizenship Question, the white house would be able to pinpoint block by block how much taxpayer dollars goes to citizens versus noncitizens. That is why the president is fighting for this, and he appears to be saying now hes considering an executive order. In the time that remains, could he do that . Jeff, youre right, its about power and politics. If the president tries to put a Citizenship Question on the census in violation of what the Supreme Court just said, which is, we dont believe your reasons and you cant do it based on the state of the record, that may actually be the first constitutional crisis that we will see, and ill tell you, if our lawmakers dont stand up and push back on that, i think we may be in real trouble. All right, glenn kirschner, thanks to you. Youll be back later in the show. Coming up, joe biden is heading to capitol hill for a key caucus after a stumble about his personal finances. Now allegations that migrants, in this case children, were being mistreated at the Detention Center in arizona. Well, it shows the issue appears to be more widespread than previously known. Nbc news has obtained dozens of documents with dozens of accounts of Border Agents allegedly mistreating, punishing, even abusing kids at an overcrowded facility in yuma, arizona. One 15yearold girl alleges she was sexually assaulted. Jacob soboroff broke this story for nbc and hes been at front of this story from the start. Jacob, tell us what you found. Its pretty horrific. Weve heard all these reports of what was going on in texas and for the first time weve heard what happened inside an arizona Border Patrol station. Many of the issues we heard about in texas, unsanitary conditions, extreme overcrowding, children forced to sleep outside, lack of toothbrushes, bad food, bad water, but what goes to the next level in these incident reports we have obtained, and theyre completed by case managers at hhs, health and human services, when these young kids get out of Border Patrol custody, the stuff is really shocking. I want to talk about some of the examples that stuck out to us in the dozen ths that we found. You mentioned one, the 15yearold girl from honduras who said she was sexually assaulted from a Border Patrol agent. This young woman accounted to her case manager that a bearded manager groped her breasts and genitals. It was something the Border Patrol agency witnessed. They were laughing and talking about it after it occurred. Other allegations about lack of food and water quality. Border agents took out sleeping mats from the cells of Young Children in this yuma station, and many other incidents, including one of a young boy who wore soiled underpants for 10 days because he was too afraid to ask agents for a change of clothes because of the posture the agents took toward young kids. This is 30 of potentially thousands of significant reports. We havent seen nearly the full volume of these things. Julia said last night its the tip of the iceberg. So many more questions and answers about whats going on here. And heres the deal. Border patrol has said in the past they need more money, they need more resources, but it strikes me that money and resources mean nothing if a culture exists where agents, some of them, treat kids this way with impunity. So what is the Border Patrol saying about these allegations now . Good point, jeff, and julia said last night, she was talking to mary odonnell, retaliation does not get good efforts by Border Patrol agents. I want to read you from statement they gave to us. They said u. S. Customs and Border Protection treats those within our custody with dignity and respect and provides multiple avenues to report any allegations of misconduct. The allegations dont align with practices at our facilities and will be fully investigated. Its important to know that the allegation of Sexual Assault is already under investigation by the department of home Land Securities ofrs of tfice of the inspector general. This allegation came up over a month ago. Why havent we heard anything about it until now . Cdp did not acknowledge whether or not that bearded agent, as described in the report, is still on the job, still supervising other young Migrant Children as this investigation plays out. We dont even know when the investigation was open. How long did it take to open an investigation like this . And why specifically did they say they only opened an investigation into that case and not the other allegations, the dozens of allegations, that we put in front of cdp over the course of the last day or so . Again, theyre just not getting to the bottom of whats truly going on here, a systemic cultural issue as you point out. Thank you for that reporting. Up next, joe biden arriving moments ago to meet and court a key voting bloc on capitol hill. Well tell you who hes meeting with. Plus its not just about the race for the preside race against the president in 2020. Does she actually have a shot at winning . Does she actually have t winning . Joe biden is off the trail and back in washington trying to court a group of voters that could be key to winning the democratic nomination and the white house. Earlier this hour he arrived for a meeting with members of the bold pac, thats the campaign arm of the congressional hispanic caucus. Nbcs mike emmett is there with the latest. What do we know about this meeting . Reporter the former Vice President arrived actually just in the last 10 minutes. Hes in this townhouse behind me meeting with we counted 20 so far of the hispanic caucus. This is a formal meeting hes having with them, key constituents of congress. A few weeks ago he met with the congressional black caucus. Jeff, weve all been talking about that debate exchange that Kamala Harris had over the issue of busing with biden. This has to do with the deportation record of the Obama Administration. He said at the time it was morally bankrupt to try to equate the deportations of criminal aliens undergone in the Obama Administration with whats going on now in the trump white house. Its also important to note that the hispanic vote is critical in this primary race. A Pugh Research study found that the turnout rate for hispanics has doubled from 2014 to 2016. Biden is going to be looking for some advice but also sharing some of his policy platforms on immigration, on issues important to the Latino Community as he gears up, obviously, for this primary race. And mike, the former vp released tax filings from 2016 to 2018 yesterday, and it shows he made almost 16 million in the two years after he left the white house. So break this down for us. Yesterday you had a great line. You said middle class joe is now millionaire joe. What does this all mean for him . Reporter yeah, jeff, that middle class reputation has been so central for joe bidens reputation in public office. Any doubt you ever had about writing a book, i think thats a good idea. We saw most of that new income from the former Vice President coming from his book sales. Also interesting to note, a lot of that income coming from paid speeches. We saw that with hillary clinton, especially speeches she was giving on college campuses. Were told, yes, he was giving paid speeches at institutions of higher education, but revenue he took from those paid speeches came in tuition dollars. It could be important, as weve seen also with bernie sanders, someone who railed against millionaires and now is a millionaire himself. What did sam say, if you want to be a millionaire, you can write a book, too . Thats right. Joining me now to break this down is jeremy peters, susan del percio, shes a republican strategist and an msnbc political analyst, and Arlene Maxwell for executive programming at sirius xm and also political analyst. Sirlean, i want to start with you. You now have Kamala Harris and Julian Castro leading the pack of the democrats. What are these candidates doing right . One of the things theyre doing right is theyre speaking in a language not just for latinos, and you saw a signal to millenniums of color, and the vast majority of hispanics are under 30, so a group of people that could really make a difference at the ballot box. So they are speaking in a language, and i dont mean spanish, that will resonate with this particular constituency, particularly women of color. All you need to do is tap into sort of the bloodstream of what millennials of color are talking about, issues like racial justice, criminal justice reform, obviously the deportations under president obama. They were very, very critical of president obama. The d. R. E. A. M. Ers had to push the administration a bit so i think thats going to continue. So it is great to see him meeting with the congressional hispanic caucus, because the only way you resonate with communities is by talking to them and listening to their concerns. Susan, i want to talk about this consult poll, they do a weekly poll. It appears Kamala Harriss support still on the rise, and you have biden slightly on the decline. Its within the margin of error. But are we now past, do you think, this whole thing over busing as evidenced in the polling. Most likely that specific issue, yes, but we have a long way to go and we dont know whats going to happen at the next debate. Joe biden has a long record, and it will continue to be challenged. One thing we saw with Kamala Harris is she used a very precision attack against the Vice President. We dont know how many others its one thing to talk broad, but when you can go to something so specific, it could happen to this issue. Lets also not forget this issue mostly exists because of the gaffes joe biden made and he couldnt recover from them. It took him two and a half weeks. If he does it again, he sets himself up for it again. Well see. And joe peters, lets talk about joe biden. Ea hes now a member of the Millionaires Club with records showing he made 16 million after leaving office. How does he position himself as the guy who can relate to working class voters . I think, jeff, its just one of many issues hes going to have to continue to answer for. To susans point, he has a long legislative record here that his opponents, the republicans and the democrats, will continue to pick apart. He also has a long history as a candidate of being rather inconsistent and making mistakes he does not apologize for and having to explain away for a very long time. I think the question Going Forward over the next couple of months is whether or not joe biden ends up becoming the jeb bush of the cycle. By that i mean he is somebody with name recognition, a legacy, a lot of money, but when it comes down to it, his abilities as a candidate really dont match all the hype. And on top of that, he has a hard time explaining his record to the base of his party, which is agitating for a much different type of nominee. And zerlena, is that what joe biden is banking on, that he might become the next jeb bush . Why is he jumping in . The New York Times had a good point, saying, look, he can spend half a Million Dollars on a voting registration drive. There are things you can do, certainly that is one area making sure voter suppression, we can educate voters in the country on voter i. D. Laws and the necessary paperwork you need to get registered to vote in your state, because thats an issue that impacted the outcome in 2016. So i think there are other ways other than running for president. I just want to say this. There is a dynamic at play where i dont know why this is, but for some reason, white men, some of them, think the only way they can help the country is by running it. And thats not something that women normally sort of innately feel. I think the women running for president think they have something of value in terms of policy and plans, and theyre trying to earn it. There is a dynamic where the men are not necessarily doing that. You see joe biden Walking Around sort of feeling entitled to the nomination. Everyone is going to have to earn it. And i think that tom steyer could find other ways to spend 1 100 million that would help te country and the party much more than just running for president himself. Lets talk about the women with a plan. Its amy mcgrath. Shes challenging Mitch Mcconnell. She raised 2. 5 million in the 24 hours since announcing her senate run. No matter how much money she throws or anyone throws at the race, can she be the one to turn around a state that donald trump won by 30 points . In a president ial year, i find it very hard to believe. Lets not forget, donald trump won that state by 30 points. You cut it in half, leaving 15, thats still tough odds. She also lost her last race by three points, and it was one of the more favorable congressional districts in 2018 for a democrat to run it. She also wasnt the partys first choice to be the nominee originally in that race. But this is something where just because you have money doesnt mean youre going to win. And jeremy peters, what do you think of this race . Is this going to be the kind of thing that gets a lot of attention because those of us see amy mcgrath, she has a great back story, and Mitch Mcconnell is a well known figure. Do you think she has a shot here . In any race where your opponent has the lowest Approval Rating as a United States senator, there will be a huge vulnerability there. Whether or not that vulnerability is enough to squeeze Mitch Mcconnell out of office, im very skeptical of at this point. Whats interesting is the dynamic mcconnell finds himself in. In order to be the strongest candidate he can be, hes going to have to tether himself to President Trump and President Trumps record. Thats not a comfortable position for someone like Mitch Mcconnell to be in. He is basically going to have to tell voters in kentucky, look, i am the only thing standing in the way of President Trumps agenda being blocked. I have pushed through his judges, his policies, and without me, there is no trump. So thats a tough case to make, but i think Mitch Mcconnell in kentucky could do it. Jeremy peters, susan del percio, thank you both very much. Zerlina, stick around. Were going to talk about soccer coming up. Right now the World Champion u. S. Womens soccer team is being honored with a parade down the canyon of heroes, so the question remains, why arent they being paid like heroes . If youre not down with equal pay or equality, youre so far out of reality with the conversation, that we cant even go there. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Right now the world cup winning u. S. Womens soccer team is being honored with a parade here in new york city. It not only captured the city, but it brought about a fight for women for equal pay. Joining me now is nbc Stephanie Goss who got the choice assignment along the parade route. We have stephanie and zerlina. Stephanie, first to you. What are we looking at here . Theyre going to proceed with a parade route that starts at battery park, winding through whats called the canyon of heroes. Thats because theyve been having ticker tape parades here in new york city for over a hundred years. But this is only the second time a womens team has been honored this way. The last time was four years ago, the last time the worlds cup was played and fof course te women won it then as well. The team was here during that parade, too. Including megan rapinoe, she actually won the golden boot trophy and that goes to the player who scores the most goals during the tournament. Theyre going to make their way here to city hall where they will be greeted by a crowd of 3500 people. Those tickets, were told, went like that, and mayor bill de blasio is going to be giving them the keys to the city. Jeff . Thanks, stephanie. So, megan rapinoe, she spoke to Rachel Maddow last night and she talked about this fight for equal pay, and she said everyone realizes its now time for the next step. Ive not heard anything from the u. S. Soccer federation on this. Where do things stand . The Soccer Federation hasnt really weighed in. There was a press a few months ago saying, were looking into this and will look into it more after the world cup dies down. I think theyll reach some sort of agreement. They sort of have to at this point because the public shame them so much. People chanting equal pay, equal pay after a win is not the best look. But its unclear what theyll do because they have to split the revenues different ways. It could go different ways. As we keep an eye on the parade here, just define the moment for us. I think one of the coolest things about this team is they are just as brash and selfassured on the pitch, on the field, as they are off. I think that women are having a moment right now. I feel that way since the debate, actually, because kamala was so strong in that debate. There was something about what you said, selfassuredness. Its a powerful thing and a powerful role model for boys and girls growing up to be selfassured and selfconfident but also be excellent. You cant have the false arrogance. You need to make sure youre prepared, youre practiced and youre champions. You back up the talk, is what im saying. I think not only are they champions and theyre excellent at the specific sport theyre playing, but now that they have all have our attention and rightly so, they have something of value to say. I think thats why were listening to them. They had something substantive and valuable to say about issues that mattered, not just to them, but to women everywhere. Im here to tell you, if women are better at men than something, they should get equal pay. I know were talking about equal pay, but lets be real. The womens soccer team brings more money than the men, they had higher ratings than the men in many instances, and they win. And they make higher revenue than the men. In the last couple years, there is higher revenue. Any excuse they use to not pay women equally do not work in this example. Quickly, megan, what happens next with this team . They go back to the teams they came from . Most of them are on teams in the National Womens soccer league. Those teams have been playing the whole time theyve been gone without their best players, so once this dies down, theyre back to playing. Thank you very much, Megan Greenwell and zerlina maxwell. And this afternoon top officials from the fbi and dhs will meet with lawmakers to explain what theyve been doing to ensure the election goes off without a hitch. National security for nbc. You and i talked about how there is no whole of government approach to safeguarding our elections. We know democrats have been pushing legislation to do just that ahead of the 2020 election. So this this briefing meant to convince these lawmakers that the administration is actually on top of things . Thats the idea, jeff, but i dont think its going to work. You know, the house has passed massive legislation to improve Election Security which funneled 600 million to the states and require that all states employ a paper ballot, which experts say is more secure. That legislation is going nowhere in the senate, controlled by republicans. My sources tell me one of the main reasons is the white house opposes the bills. So you have about a third of the counties in america that are using voting that doesnt have a paper audit trail. Georgia, for example, just adopted a new system that some experts say is less secure than the old system. One thing that is going to come down the pike, they are poised to issue massive bipartisan support in security and the flaws in the system from 2016 and that may put more pressure on the Trump Administration to traoefp traoet this as a front burner issue.
