Are now at flood stage. Mandatory evacuations underway across the nation, after a week of rain in some towns that are now under water. And it could be that case that they are not drying out until this fall. And weve got new details surrounding the deadly and devastating shooting at the Virginia Beach municipal center. The suspect submitting his resignation just a few hours before he entered the offices where he worked for 15 years and then opened fire. Lets go now to london where the president and first lady are meeting with the queen. Peter alexander traveling with President Trump. Peter, whats happening . For a guy with a lot on his plate, he found time to attack a whole lot of people and places this weekend. Yes, stephanie, i think youre exactly right. President trump is certainly testing that socalled special relationship that has long existed between the United States and its top ally, the yier United Kingdom. In advance of his arrival here, lashing out. You can put up a list of targets, taking on sadiq khan called a stone cold loser after khan, the first muslim there, took on the president for what he described as offensive behavior. Beyond that, you have him criticizing mexico saying theyre an abuse of the United States. Democrats, doing nothing. Peggy noonan, describing her as a simplistic writer. And then an item that most of the president s allies would agree on russia, syria and iran, killing innocent civilians. The mission is for the president to sort of revel in the pomp and pageantry of a state that is being hosted by Queen Elizabeth, a formal ceremony on Buckingham Palace. For the last hour and a half, theyre behind closed doors enjoying lunch. The president inspected an honor guard. He will review royal gifts. And then he heads to Westminster Abbey with a formal tea with Prince Charles and camila. And the banquet at Buckingham Palace. This is a state visit as we noted that means white tails, tiaras and toasts from President Trump and Queen Elizabeth as well. But obviously, as the president again meddling in domestic british politics has a lot of people here talking, stephanie. As weve seen, the president already putting out what appeared to be a sort of endorsement for Boris Johnson who is one of the possible successors to the Prime Minister. Theresa may pushing for britain to exit the european kingdom more aggressively. And of course, as you saw, before any of this started, also exchanging words as it were with meghan markle. In 2016, she criticized him for his misogynistic behavior. Said she moved to canada where she was filming a show. And ultimately, she moved to britain the president described her comments before as nasty saying he used no such word. Using no such word, except, of course, it was on tape. Peter alexander, thank you. Now, we must go to Virginia Beach where a community is remembering 12 people shot to death by a city engineer. The worst shooting so far this year. Kathy parks is in virginia. What have police figured out why exactly this happened . Reporter well, steph, motive is still very much a mystery. Yesterday, the police chief was adamant at getting across he was not fired and was not in the process of getting fired and in good standing. But he did submit a resignation via email. Today city offices are closed in this complex. Building 2 where the shooting happened on friday is closed indefinitely. And behind me is a growing memorial. There are 12 crosses representing the 12 lives lost. One of the victims is laquita brown. We had a chance to speak with her uncle and she actually knew the suspect and she questioned his stability. She knew him. And she actually felt that he wasnt, you know, in his right mind at times. Reporter and yesterday, another big headline was the time line of this shooting. We learned that it took just two minutes for officers to arrive on the scene. 36 minutes from dispatch to apprehending the suspect. And, stephanie, it was quite a dramatic moment when officers had that confrontation with the suspect. It was a long gun battle. He was shooting through the door when he was cornered. Eventually, when they got to him, he was still alive, they rendered aid and arrested him but he later died at the hospital. Currently, there are four victims hospitalized in critical condition. And the mourning continues for this community. Two individuals are scheduled for later on today steph. Thank you so much. Now, we have to turn to the massive flooding across the middle of this country. Rivers hitting record levels in parts of arkansas, kansas, missouri and oklahoma. Gabe gutierrez is in little rock where the Arkansas River has hit its highest level in over 75 years. Gabe, whats it actually like there . Reporter hi, stephanie, good morning. The Arkansas River behind me is expected to crest later tonight. But as you can see behind me, this current is rushing downstream. Theres just so much water coming down the Arkansas River and its threatening so many communities. The river is still rising here. And if you look at some drone footage from pine bluff, arkansas, that is just downstream about 45 minutes to an hour south of little rock, pine bluff, arkansas, the water is reaching rooftops there. Mandatory evacuations on the way. Emergency shelters have been open for some of the residents there. And it is just a devastating time. The river down there is not expected to crest until wednesday. Now, yesterday, we toured ft. Smith, arkansas, in the western edge of the state. And we saw hundreds of homes that had been inundated. That community has been dealing with flooding for the last several days. And the water is starting to recede there. But locals tell us theyre dealing with this for weeks. Its just a devastating situation in that part of the state. Parts of oklahoma are also seeing the waters you see but theyre dealing with the aftereffects as well. Stephanie, this is a slowmotion disaster affecting multiple states. States like iowa and missouri. Nearly 300 river gauges throughout the country are at or above flood stage right now. And this all comes after weeks of severe weather. More rain is expected for this weekend, for this region. Here in north little rock, over the weekend, local authorities had urged some residents to consider leaving. There had been false reports of a levee breach here. There had been an actual levee breach, not far from arkansas, but something theyre dealing with for at least the coming days and coming weeks. Stephanie, again, the Arkansas River at little rock is expected to crest today. Thank you, Gabe Gutierrez joining from us little rock. If you have not seen this video from venice, italy. It looks like a scene from a disaster movie. A cruise ship weighing more than 6500 tons loses control as it heads for a dock. A dock thats filled with passengers, watch this. It is unbelievable that is a real video. It is more unbelievable that no one was killed. Kelly cobiella in venice, italy. Kelly, what exactly happened here . Reporter well, were still trying to figure that out, stephanie. The investigation is ongoing. But this is how much we do know. We know that ship was clearly out of control when it was coming through this very businessy canal in venice. We understand that the captain reported the problem very early on when he first noticed it. The ship was beings courted by two tugboats. And there are reports from the italian media, actually, that the ship was under so much power, pulling so much momentum, that one of those tug lines actually snapped. The captain even trying to throw an anchor over just to slow that ship down. But in the end, the only thing that stopped it was that concrete dock. And sadly, that river boat. There were people on board that river boat. Some people having breakfast on the top, top deck. They were told when that ship was getting closer and closer to run. One woman saying she dropped everything. Dropped her passport, all of her belongings into the water. And doesnt really have anything left. But thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt. Four people injured. We understand those injuries are relatively minor. Two people were still in the hospital. As of this morning. And even more incredible, stephanie, we understood earlier today that ship, the cruise ship was going to be heading back out to sea this afternoon. The msc, the company that owns it, said that they were ready to hit back out with the 2,000plus passengers on board. We spoke to them just a short time ago. They said theyre now going to hold off until they get the all clear from italian prosecutors. But we still havent heard from italian prosecutors what went wrong in the first place. Stephanie. Well, it was certainly something big. Kelly cobiella, in venice, italy, thank you. As for you at home, stick around. We are Digging Deeper into those big stories and what they mean to you. Right now, the president is at Buckingham Palace, viewing a special number of items that have historical significance to the u. S. In just a few hours, the first of his official state visit to the uk he has already made serious waves. Before leaving the United States, the pretty touted the nationalist lawmaker Boris Johnson. Saying johnson would do a good job running the country and he also used the word nasty with meghan markle. And called the mayor of london sadik khan a stone coal loser in response to a comment over the weekend. That is just the first few hours. Joining me now nbc Senior National correspondent keir simmons and nbc reporter jonathan allen. Keir, this is the president s first day, whats the feedingt n the ground there and the meeting with the royal family . This is not serious politics, this is proper and circumstance, isnt it . Reporter yeah, it is. The state visit here in the uk is centered around the royal family. Well see many members of the royal family at the various events today, culminating tonight in that big banquet. No wonder President Trumps own family have come. You would want a ticket, wouldnt you, for an event like that, where they measure every setting including the position of the chairs and of the cutlery. We watched as the president arrived here in marine one, swooping down over Buckingham Palace there. I think, to be honest, steph, everyone will have just breathed out a little bit. A little bit of an intake of breath that things went well enough, during that arrival that president inspecting the grenadier guards and the garden behind Buckingham Palace there with Prince Charles. There was one moment where the winds here looks like they might blow the hats off the queen and first lady. But they managed to hold on to them. Thats the kind of worry that its got thus far. But as you mentioned there are Many Political storms around. For the royal family, though, steph, this is really a diplomatic exercise. This is what they are very, very good at. The constitutional mon ca aal m all about the big picture. Saying in decades to come the uk stood by america even when the political times were so turbulent. Hopefully in the next few days that is the message that will be sent around the world. But you never with President Trump. Jonathan, we talk about the messy Political Landscape in the u. S. Every day. But were nothing compared to whats going on in the uk. You write in your latest piece that the uk needs the support of trump and the United States. And the president knows it. That being the indication, hcas things going to play out there . Reporter you know, as keir just suggested in the physical sense, its also true in sort of the metaphorical sense, everybody is holding ton their hat with President Trump visiting, trying to hold on with the turbulent winds. What were seeing here and hearing here, as keir suggested, british officials here constantly talking about how important this relationship is. Government officials talking about it. Were seeing it play out. We talk about the pomp, the pageantry. How its not substantive. But at the same time, it is important, that symbolism. What theyre really worried about right now is being dissed by the United States at the time theyre severing their relationship with the european union. Theyre essentially weakening themselves economically. There are not that many forces in the world economically, china, the eu, the United States. So, theyre losing that. They want to get as close to the United States as possible. Possibly have a bilateral trade deal with us. At the same time, they want to continue to have that security relationship. They dont talk about that as much publicly, but its important. And you cant do security with the United States, unless you have a close relationship with President Trump himself. Theres not so much of a process, as we talk about all the time. Not so much of a policy process. Hes making decisions. Government to government doesnt work as well as do leader to leader relationship. What was going on with him and Prime Minister may or an endorsee or someone else. Prime minister may out of that jub very quickly. The president called the mayor a stone cold loser. In response to what sadik khan wrote over the weekend. It is so unbritish to be roll out the red carpet for a state state who flies in the ideals of what america was founded on, equality, liberty and religious freedom. Clearly, this struck a nerve with the president. Theres also a whole lot of people who agree with the general sentiment that President Trump has. The rise in populism is not unique to the United States. Just take a look at europe. Reporter yeah, steph, such a great way to frame the question because its actually a difficult question to answer, how is he being received here . Because the reality is the uk is as polarized as we see here. And you see them cheering but at the same time, there are many people in britain who do not want to see this president , President Trump, in this way with a state visit. The city about sadik khan, he knows very well his voters here in london are more on the side of antitrump, if you like, particularly, his voters. Therefore, having a fight with President Trump like this, that politically potentially plays incredibly well for him. And hell be very aware of that. You have to wonder about the president of the United States in a sense, lowering himself into a fight with the mayor of london. After all, these are two very different offices. And without question, the leader of the free world is a far more Important Office than the leader of capital city like london. All the same, its not unexpected, is it . And, too, also, those comments about meghan markle, prince harrys wife, you know, President Trump was kind of led into it by that british tabloid newspaper, wasnt he . And others perhaps would have avoided responding. But President Trump didnt. But, look, back to the point, really, the British Royal family are arch diplomats. They are professionals at this. Open it up behind me a little bit here just to see whats up. Its just more procession. It sounds like more pageantry. Its more procession. The British Royal family, they have dealt with so many of these visits, steph. The president of china. The president of russia. I was saying earlier today, they even hosted once the dictator from romania whose entourage was found to steal things, so much so that they cleared the room of anything precious to ensure that nothing got taken. So, this visit is a long way from that. The royal family know how to host guests of all types. In the end for them, this is the president of the United States, one of the most important leaders to britain around the world. And the royal family will be doing their job. How about that the entourage may have been inclined to steal things. To that point, i want to bring back up on the screen, the gallery we were just showing. That room where the president will be visiting in just a few minutes. The artifacts on the wall were specially selected for the president s visit. Hell be reviewing them in just a few moments. And im quite sure the concern about swiping things is not a concern today. Jonathan, before the president left yesterday, he spoke to reporters at the white house about getting involved in british politics. Take a look. Mr. President , is it appropriate for you could be weighing in on the Prime Minister . Well, people ask me questions, like you, youre asking me a question. Dont ask me the question if you dont want me to talk about it. Well, does the president have a point . Reporter i guess. If the president answered every question he was asked directly and forth right, he would have a point. But he chooses to answer these questions, he chooses to engage and make known his preference for Boris Johnson in the selection. To make known his preference for britain walking away from the table in terms of brexit negotiations with the eu. Noted his preference with Benjamin Netanyahu in the elections. Its the president who accepted help according Robert Mueller in that report. Its the president who believes its already for one country to interfere and interject itself in the Domestic Affairs of another nation. Thats something thats been controversial in the past. Certainly in the last 70 years in democracy. Its something that the United Nations has frowned upon, and generally speaking the United States and its allies have frowned upon. But hes taken that position and i think its something that we should keep an eye on as he runs for reelection. It something that they may want help from some of this allies likeminded allies, in the election as he battles the democrats into 2020. He need to focus on that . Because this trip is all about dmr diplomacy, we know theres rising tension with china and trade and iran. All of these issues, how do i say, at least ticked off some of our allies. Does the president need this trip to go well to settle those relationships . Or do they have nothing to do with one another, jonathan . Reporter its a great question, stephanie. I do think that the president is in a position right now where there are not a lot of people around the world a lot of countries around the world who feel like theyre on great terms with him. He is being messed with, if you will, by a lot of other governments, particularly with regard to some of the trade arrangements. The North Koreans firing off missiles. I think he is at a point where it would be helpful for him, behoove him to show that he can make it through a foreign trip, a foreign discussion and negotiation, even one thats simply a commemoration of dday, that should be the easiest among them in a state visit here in the United Kingdom. This should be the easiest of relationships for him. To get through this smoothly would be something thats important for him in the form of broader Foreign Policy question. If he didnt do that, it really does speak to his inability to get along with anybody. I and i alone, remember, thats what he ran on. Keir and jonathan, vaunthank yo. Well keep an eye on that room that the president will be in any moment. And coming up, the president and tariffs. The president reportedly considering slapping tariffs on another. Mexico. The threat of tariffs there. And all of this happening as one of the president s key economic advisers announces hes stepping down. Money, power, politics, next. We see two travelers so at a comfort innal with a glow around them, so people watching will be like, wow, maybe ill glow too if i book direct at choicehotels. Com. Who glows . Just say, badda book. Badda boom. Book now at choicehotels. Com and i dont add trup the years. S. But what i do count on. The queen standing next to him in a room of artifacts, specifically chosen for the president and this visit, First Lady Melania Trump standing just behind him. I want to bring keir simmons back. Keir, what are they looking at there . Reporter hey, stephanie, im looking at these pictures, just as you are. The queen and the president walked into the room just a moment ago. These are artifacts from the royal collection. We are yet to be told exactly which items they are. But i suspect that what youll see are gifts that will have been given to the royal family in the past by previous american leaders. And perhaps items from royal trips to the United States. There you can see the president and the first lady with the queen. And with Prince Charles and the duchess of cornwall, just making their way through this very ornate room. Where every it looks like some of these items are of written items. So, you can imagine, perhaps there will be messages from previous president s, perhaps signatures. And the president seems, well, very interested. The queen in particular is clearly taken with it all. This is the kind of thing that she just loves. This history. This opportunity to demonstrate the extraordinary connection between the british monarch and the United States. It is a chance for her to talk about her own, if you like, family history, as well as britains history. And, of course, thats the way the royal family viewed things. While we talk about the latest politics of the day. The royal family very much take a much broader view. For them, this is about decades and even centuries of history, which frame everything. And every moment is within that context. So, for the queen, this is a chance to really set out history to this president. And, of course, steph, the queen is adept at giving advice to Prime Ministers and president s through the ages. Perhaps, shell have a few words to President Trump of that nature as the visit goes on. Lets listen in, in the room, for just a moment. It appears that shes showing him, i dont know, you could call it a royal photo album, photographs of her father, her uncle. Sort of giving the history of her family . Reporter yeah, that does appear to be, at least, some of the items that shes showing him. She will have been very much involved. One of the aspects of a state visit like this, is that the queen will take a personal interest in every part of it. This is her opportunity to host a world leader. This is very much her state visit, if you like. And you can see, in the background there, i dont know if you saw, steph, but it looked like prince harry in the background there with jared and ivanka trump. So, it is an interesting scene, isnt it . To see the trump family and the royal family mingling. Looking through these extraordinary historical items. And i dont know whether you heard any of the conversation, steph. But i found myself leaning in. You just so much want to be a fly on the wall to hear what theyre saying to each other. I have to admit, of course, all of us would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when President Trump met saw prince harry for the first time after those comments to a british tabloid newspaper. But, look, its just such its so fascinating, isnt it . To see, if you like, these two families looking at history. And making history. Without a doubt. And you can see just beyond the president the duchess of cornwall and Prince Charles. And snfr and National Security adviser john bolton just beyond them. And its interesting, President Trump saying hes going to bring his family members but of course, these family members, jared and ivanka are Senior Advisers. Theres criticism of the president taking on his own family to take on senior roles in the white house. There you are, think about the juxtaposition. Senior advisers with the president meeting with the royal family. Some say tongue in cheek, that the trumps are viewed themselves as our own royal family. Reporter steph, how about this, kind of an amugs part sinf this. Im just being shown some of the details or items theyre looking at. It looks as if some of it part of the royal familys collection of Natural History bookings of the Natural History of the carolinas, florida and the bahamas islands. Im told. Theres a watercolor of a bald eagle. Theres another book here, birds of america volume 1 volud its opened to a bird. It looks as if the royal familys own collection of america, perhaps even before 1776. Who knows, well find out more. And there is also, it does look as to there is also amongst the collection, a gift from President Trump that he gave to the queen back in 2018 on his first visit. The royal family knows very well each of the guests that they are hosting. And to include gifts from the president himself in the display that they are looking at now is a nice touch. They will know somebody like President Trump would appreciate that. As we said earlier, they are professional diplomats. The royal family know what is theyre doing. Remind us, whats on the agenda today . Reporter so, once this stunning occasion is over, then the president will make his way to Westminster Abbey, there he will take a moment to pay respects to the war dead. Theres a monument there to the dead from the first world war. And he will see some of the Extraordinary People who have been laid to rest there at Westminster Abbey. Westminster abbey, of course, another historical location. A place where william and kate were married. But so much more in british history has happened there. He will not, as other World Leaders do, travel there on an open carriage. That has been something that all u. S. President s have avoided, i think for security reasons. President obama didnt do it. President george w. Bush did not do it. And then this afternoon, he will meet for tea with Prince Charles and the duchess of cornwell, camila, that will be another fascinating occasion. Another moment where youd love to be a fly on the wall because, of course, Prince Charles and President Trump around the same age, but with very different views. We know about Prince Charles views on climate change. How desperately worried he says he is about climate change. His belief in organic farming. Those are not the views that are normally expressed by President Trump. So, again, it will be a fascinating meeting. But again, Prince Charles is will be the diplomat, he will find his way through that meeting, im sure, without needing to kind of get into a political conversation that might be awkward. So, a day of history for the president. Culminating, steph, with that extraordinary ball room state dinner here at Buckingham Palace, in which every setting is carefully measured. There are incredible pictures of courtiers polishing the table with cloths on their feet and their hands, as they polish the table to make it absolutely perfect. Measuring out the position of every chair, every glass, every late. You can imagine that Anyone AroundPresident Trump, his family, his government, anyone, from anyone in the Trump Administration would have been wanting a ticket to this, just because its the kind of thing, steph, that you get to talk about at dinner parties back home in the u. S. For the rest of your life. For the rest of your career. To be able to say that you were there, well, its just something special. No wonder he wanted to bring his own family. Keir, the room is quite crowded and loud. We mentioned, and they are just leaving, i would just like to ask, who else is in that room . Thats a crowds house . Reporter just as you asked me, for me, too, the pictures faded. I dont know, it just gets quite crowded in there. Just as i was talking about how this is a ticket that anybody would want. The room was filling up and filling up. So, it looks as if there were wider member, of the royal family and the Trump Administration. We shall see. All right. Keir simmons joining us from london. Now, we learn to serious business. Money, power, politics. Today, u. S. Secretary wilbur ross is meeting with his mexican counterpart to see if they can come up with a way to avert the new tariffs. The president has threatened theyre going to kick in a week from today. I have two perfect guests, josh brown, and ronald simon. Senior advisers to schroeders. Josh, the president tweeted he wanted action, not talk. What exactly can mexico do . The president , as chuck grassley, fellow republican said is conflating National Security and immigration issues with trade. Help us remind our audience, tariffs its the u. S. That will be paying. Right. Well, this is whats changed at least explicitly the chinese negotiations the trade war was about the economy. Fairness for our consumers. Theyre not even pretending with this. This is new. And the way wall street is processing it very simply is panic. Wall street is basically saying, if you look at the odds of a rate cut at the next move, now above 50 . Thats startling. We were talking about rate hikes six months ago. Okay. Okay, wall street is saying, okay this is crazy. Now we have a situation where 6 million u. S. Jobs are directly gent on crossborder trade between u. S. And mexico. Hes willing to put that as a chip on the table that organization of our economy, to seemingly get the optics of im tough on the border. It has no economic bearing whatsoever. This is a whole other ball game. But is it political genius . One month ago, may 3rd when usa today wrote about the aprils job report showing 263,000 jobs and added that unemployment is at a 50year low. The column said it would be hard to ask for a more favorable report. That was one month ago. Here we are with the president threatening tariffs and a rate cut which is exactly what the pled wants. Partly, steph, because the tariffs can be so punitive. And especially for the transmission for every automobile in the United States is somehow assembled or disassembled in mexico. So you could send that in a week, he could not put the tariffs in place and we dont get a rate hike, and they just won the ball game. You have to have brains made of mashed potatoes to think that a rate cut is preferable to an economic expansion. Im with you. Theres no way he thinks that. I dont think he thinks anything very deeply on the subject. However, youre right. He does want the fed to look and act as though what he says goes. He would like a rate cut. Unfortunately, look at the history of markets when the rate cut cycle starts, you are not in a good place. Economically, you are not in a good place, stock marketwise. So its an admission from the fed that somehow, and the bond markets around the world are saying this, that we are headed towards recession, not towards recovery. Bond markets around the world, 11 trillion of sovereign debt carries negative Interest Rates here in the u. S. This morning before the market recovered, we saw the yield 1 2. 9 . The lowest in years. This is a signal of panic, as josh said. The stock market got absolutely crushed in may so youll get a bounce. There are headlines that said china and mexico may come to the table and restart in chinas case, negotiations. Think about the cognitive dissdi dissidenc dissidence. Maybe this is why kevin hasek left. Think about what you have to pull off if you represent the white house in television or in print. You have to say this is the strongest economy of all time, 50 years. And this is why and this is why we require emergency policy from the fed. Okay. Im with you. So, they have to stand up there and its an absolute game of buffoonery. Correct. That the president was declaring tariffs. But at the end. Day, do investors actually care what anybody is saying on the white house lawn or the president s rhetoric, if they get what theyre ultimately looking for which is some sort of tough negotiation with china and maybe a rate cut . First of all, theres no immediate solution to the china problem. What josh said, on the surface being economically driven there are Foreign Policy aspects with trade with china where theyre using it as a leverage to get internal ranchanges in effect. All of those 5g, all of those have worries for the future. Theyre worried militarily and economically. Thats not going to be resolved. Trade wars are easy to win. Can i bring up one other point, though . And this is one that i think and i dont understand. The white house keeps saying it wants to create jobs. There are 7. 5 million jobs open in the United States. If you filled every job thats open, you would still have a population or labor force deficit of 1. 2 million people. This is where the immigration policy is going wrong. We have a shortage of agriculture workers, construction workers, 300,000 cyberjobs. We dont need to create jobs. We need to fill them. So, at the end of the day, if youre going to shut down the economy, yeah, you might get the Unemployment Rate to go up a little bit. But whatever the result is, its not positive. Ive got to ask you about the president s tweet going after cnn and in turn, at t. Where he writes i believe if people stop using or subscribing to at t, theyd be forced to make big changes at cnn which is dying in the ratings anyway. It is so unfair with such bad fake news, why wouldnt they act. When the world watches cnn they get a false picture of usa, sad. He didnt think people have their Cellular Service with at t. But at t is a publicly traded company. Theyve got massive m and a ahead of them. Do they fuel the president with marketmoving tweets that impact like none of this matters . We may find out years from now that people in the administration maybe took advantage of the timeliness of these tweets. But thats only speculation. Theres no way to make shushg any of this is happening. I would just say weve had scandals where the president has been involved specifically. Or the president s cabinet has specifically been involved in big business. Teapot dome comes to mind. Valencia. And now its a disgrace. Its what can we get away with, what is actually a law versus a norm. Who cares about the norms anyway. And the president said positive things about the u. S. Markets when 9 u. S. Markets is open. He says negative things about the Chinese Market when its open. One has to wonder how purposely his tweets are designed to move the markets. Gentlemen, thank you so much so much. His soninlaw and Senior AdviserJared Kushner. Jared is with the president today, but he sat down with axios for a very rare interview that aired last night. And Jonathan Swann pressed Jared Kushner on everything from his work on the middle east to whether or not he believes the president is a racist. So, if the answer is, no, absolutely not. And what ill say is that what a lot of democrats call the president a racist, i think theyre doing a disservice to people who suffer because of real racism in this country. Birtherism racist . I wasnt involved in that. Was it racist . Like i said, i wasnt involved in that. I know you werent. Was it racist . I know who the president is and i have not seen anything in him that is racist. The other issue that gets brought up in this conversation is that he campaigned on banning muslims. Would you describe that as he ran his campaign the way he ran his campaign. Do you think he made that speech . He is here today and doing a lot of great things for the country. We should remind our audience the president called to the execution of the central park five and birtherism. The president was in that in 2016. Joining me now editor in chief, what got the most reaction . I thought it was a great interview by jonathan. Like you said, this is not something that Jared Kushner does a lot. We had a bunch of things, the comments about birtherism and getting into the psyche of Jared Kushner and sort of not commenting on those kind of things. We got jared talking about the palestinian israeli question about his middle east peace plan and driving a wedge between the Palestinian People and the palestinian leadership which will cause some problems with the unveiling. He said palestinian governments might not be able to govern themselves without Israeli Security help. Jonathan did a great job of asking Jared Kushner questions about his relationship with mbs drawing specifically the fact that intelligence communities have linked the murder to the Washington Post journalist and bombing civilians in yemen. What does he see in this guy . Jared sort of dodged that and focused more on saudi arabias traditional role of the ally of the United States. We actually, we have, nick, we have that sound where jared is asked about his relationship with mbs and the investigation around the death of jamal khashoggi. Lets air that . How many conversations have you had about the murder of jamal khashoggi. The discussions i have whether its individual palestinians or World Leaders, i keep those discussions to myself. The people who mead to know about them in our government, related to the jobs theyre doing, they know about those discussions. Ordered it, the cia briefed members of the senate who voted that way. I dont know what the administration is waiting for in terms of accountability. I believe there is a report they are working on and they are doing an investigation and when they have the facts of the investigation, it will be up to the president to make a determination on what he wants to do. Jared kushner said a report is coming out. The president will then make a decision and the president was asked late last night about it and heres what he said. Mr. President , are you willing to say that responsible for khashoggis death . When did this come up, again . Are you back four months ago . Four hours ago, maybe 12 hours ago. The president basically scoffing at that reporter saying why are you bringing this up. What is going on here . The Trump Administration is holding against the fight in iran and isis in that region. A real politic approach theyre taking here. Separating a lot of what mbs is doing in yemen and relationship with the murder of khashoggi and separating that from needing an ally in the region against iran. That is why Jared Kushner was kicking the question, we will wait for the report and donald trump takes the exact same position. They view saudi arabia as too important an ally in the region to upset that relationship. Sounds like hes punting or maybe they both are. Im still waiting to hear about this report. Thank you so much, nick johnston. It was quite an interview. This has been quite an hour, but it wraps us up. I am Stephanie Ruhle and i will see you again at 1 00 p. M.
