Its okay. Go. Thank you. Good to see you. Have a great day and fun in l. A. Im Kendis Gibson. Coming any moment right now senator Bernie Sanders speaking in South Carolina as the president ial candidate unveils a new plan that he hopes will sway a major voting block. Will it be enough . Also this hour, people across the country demanding action on gun control. Another rally under way in new york city right now as the 2020 president ial candidates respond on the campaign trail. The man behind the white house curtain, yeah, closer look at Stephen Miller in two feature pieces being written today. A New York Times reporter who wrote about this west wing character and well ask that journalist if his feature pushed the president s buttons today. A lot helping as appening a on the air this sunday. A lot on the campaign trail, Bernie Sanders has lost steam in the polls, rolling out a new policy on criminal Justice Reform. Our road warrior is traveling with senator Bernie Sanders and joins us now from columbia, South Carolina. Senator sanders seeing a hit in the polls lately. Is his campaign saying anything about that . We asked him about that in a gaggle that he had after this event here in columbia, South Carolina. He says polls go up and down and hes focused on talking about his policiesp thats what hes doing today in columbia, rolling out this set of criminal Justice Reform proposals and he previewed it earlier today at this vents and hes going to be expanding on it at a town hall later today. I got to ask him about this proposal which pretty much adds substance and meat to policies he talks about all the time on the campaign trail, like ending cash bail, banning private prisons and reforming policing. Listen to what he told me about this plan. Its a racist system. People behind bars are disproportionately africanamerican and latino. We are spending a fortune rather than investigating in our young people in jobs and education, were putting money into jails and incarceration and that is so crazy weve got to change it and change it in a bold way. Reporter this is a plan that is about 6,000 words long. It goes on with several different points. Many details that he doesnt usually talk about on the campaign trail. This is something that comes up a lot among voters and people who attend his events, an issue criminal Justice Reform that people are paying attention to and wanting more details from the candidates about. I believe this is senator sanders responding and reacting to the urge of democratic voters to hear more about criminal Justice Reform in this country. Shaq brewster, thanks to you. The race for the white house and the issue dominating the campaign trail gun violence. More rallies across the country calling for lawmakers to come back to work early to pass Gun Legislation in the wake of recent Mass Shootings. New nbc wall street journal polling out showing people approval of background checks, red flag laws and banning of semiautomatic weapons. A sentiment echoed by candidates on the trail. What do we teach our children, we cant protect you, so we will send you to school to teach you drills about how to hide and shelter in place. Gun violence is on our sidewalks, in parks . Streets. It truly feels like this time is different and make sure it turns out to be different. Universal background checks make sense and will save lives. Red flag laws the same. Ending the sale of assault weapons. What we need to do is take guns off the street. We have coverage this afternoon with our road warriors and amazing panel. We start with Chris Pallone who is out at one of the gun rallies taking place. We had another gun rally, there were several, but one were paying attention to yesterday in los angeles, didnt really have a strong turnout, especially considering its been two weeks, only two weeks, since el paso and dayton. Whats the scene like there . Yeah, kendis, its a really good question. When i spoke with the organizer of this rally earlier, allison peters, she had about 800 people reserve a spot on line for this. She was hoping for 200 to 300. This event has not gotten under way in foley square, but taking a look, a lot of the people who have come out for this, have actually taken cover for a while under some trees because it is so hot out here in new york city today. Its approaching 90 degrees. The humidity is high. Right now, just from what i can see and im blocked a little bit, i can see about 30, 40, 50 people but the event has not started. Its supposed to start at 2 00 as you mentioned. Some 100 of these being put on by the group every town for gun safety, calling them recess rallies, trying to put pressure on congress who are actually at home on break right now to pass two new gun laws. All right. Chris po loallone, thanks to yo. Some of the tough questions candidates are facing are coming from the youngest voters. So what would you as president do to make schools and other places safer . One of the reasons were home schooled my mom thinks its not safe for children to be in Public Schools because of the shootings. I want to know what you plan to do about the shootings . Im afraid that one day ill go to school and ill never come out. Im sorry. What actions will you take to protect people like me and my classmates from this happening . Garrett hake is off the road joining us in studio. Emotional questions from very, very young people including to beto orourke there. How are they handling this issue . Beto was at a gun shop yesterday . Hes taking it the most personally of any of these candidates because of what weve seen in el paso over the last two weeks. The questions that candidates have been getting from kids has been going on the last several months on the campaign trail and predates the latest round of Mass Shootings but speaks to how much this issue has become part of the psyche of american voters, kids too young to vote, we now have hard data to back up what weve been hearing on the trail from our nbc news wall street journal poll the first from President Trumps Approval Rating on the issue, 36 approving how hes handled the recent Mass Shootings and 52 disapprovinging. That mirrors. Heres the other side of that coin. Look how popular these measures to potentially curb gun violence are. Three pieces of potential legislation you could pass here, expanded background checks, red flag laws and ban something semiautomatic weapons all pulling favorably with the majority of americans. 89 backing expanded background checks. Christmas morning and puppies dont get 89 Approval Ratings. It is an extraordinary number and speaks to how broken frankly our system is right now that this is not something that congress can handle. And not something theyre looking to handle at least on the republican side. I thought besides the 89 , 62 interested in semiautomatic weapons and banning them. Yeah. Thats an interesting number right there. That includes plenty of republicans. It would have to, absolutely. 62 is a very high number. Look, in the United States senate, that may not be enough to get through because youre going to have anything youre going to need will take 60 votes in the u. S. Senate. It does i think speaks to the potential you could see more state spanning these things. You started to see this after sandy hook and connecticut took strong steps, florida after parkland. Its a horrible statement about where we are as a country. Theres two types of communities in this country. Those who have had Mass Shootings and those who will. The ones who have had it youre seeing take action on their own rather than wait for the federal government. Stick around. Want to bring in the rest of the panel right now. Chris liu the former assistant to president obama and former deputy secretary, rene na shaw, adviser and consultant with vote, run, lead. Chris, start with you, weve seen most of the Democratic Candidates address the gun debate on the trail. Is there one of the candidates who has detailed a realistic plan . I think they all support the three common sense measures you all just talked about and i think theyre consistent in their support and as is the House Democrats which have passed background check bills. This is not one democrat versus another democrat. The hold up here really is the president and Mitch Mcconnell. Weve seen this game play out over and over again where the president will talk tough and then he gets cold feet at the last minute. Thats what happened after parkland. His seriousness on this issue is even in question right now. As you know right after el paso, he linked Gun Legislation to Immigration Reform, which he understand is basically a deal killer. He continues to go back to this as a Mental Health issue which is kind of a red herring at this point. Until the president gets serious the senate wont move on this. Yeah. In the meantime the president as chris was alluding to, has backed away from background checks, despite the polls we showed you, showing an overwhelming approval for them. What do you think changed his mind . You know, i think the president changes his mind solely because of himself. He is the biggest barrier to himself. He is never here or there really. Hes always oscillating. Where we are in this moment is seeing somebody who has a crisis of leadership, who lax the moral courage to do the right thing, though it may be deep down in there. Ive had discussions with Congressional Republicans who are so worried about this president s ability to lead on this issue because of what he says sometimes in the heat of a press moment and then what he actually is willing to do. Hes not willing to pick up the phone and govern and work with the Senate Majority leader or anyone else to pass anything because he lacks not only the desire, but the understanding and knowledge of what it would mean to do something on this issue. As we heard from chris and garrett, theres a growing ap might amongst republicans and everyone at this moment, in this electorate we are faced the with the challenge, real moral challenge, of how many more americans, fellow americans, do we let get slaughtered because our lawmakers cant do the right thing. I think its trumps inability to lead. Thats exactly where were at. All right. Lets dig deeper into the polls were receiving, the nbc wall street journal polling showing a dip in favorability for the former frontrunner, still frontrunner, joe biden. Chris, what do we think is behind this . I wouldnt read too much into that. We are still early in this primary season right now and i suspect a lot of voters really havent paid that much attention to any of the candidates at this point. Whats interesting from the polling a large percentage of the democratic electorate is essentially fine with or halfway supportive of a half dozen different candidates and the real action will kind of kick in, in the in the fall after labor day when we have the next round of debates and in particular when the race starts to whittle down after the september 30th Campaign Fundraising numbers come out. I think you will then have a much better sense of where this race is. I can see the other side of that argument there. The fact that bidens numbers have slipped so much when so many people are not paying attention is a sign of some concern for the biden campaign. This is a guy who came into the race with universal name recognition, well respected by democrats because of his service in the Obama Administration and in the three months hes been in the race seeing those favorability numbers drop off that dramatically could be problematic when you consider essentially the way that donald trump is going to run a general election, donald trump cannot raise his approval numbers. Weve seen that. Hes been locked in at 43 , give or take a point or two, in every survey nbc news and the wall street journal have done i think since he was elected. If he can bring somebody down to his level thats a sign of concern. Youre on the road talking to a lot of people and talking with the campaigns. Who do you get a sense has momentum right now . Its interesting. Elizabeth warrens campaign has been building slowly and steadily from the word go. She had the pocahontas that dogged her but hasnt had a bad news cycle since. Able to string together she has a plan for everything. Two strong debate performances. Raised 19 million without holding a single fundraiser. Shes the candidate who is sort of the slow and steady builder. Im curious to see what beto orourke does with the moment hes going to get. Do you think hes having a moment . I dont know, i dont know, i dont know. I was with him for a long time when he first launched. I was not with him in el paso the last week and a half. He does seem to have a bit of renewed interest. Very serious to see if he can maintain it. He will be on the debate stage next month. Good see you in person. Likewise. Thank you. Chris and rinna, stick around with us. We have a lot to cover. But actually its a joke. It would be totally underble if you mistake Stephen Miller as the most powerful man in the world. Two dueling features this weekend on the immigration hardliner and Senior Adviser to the president. Hes known for his intense loyalty to President Trump. Reporters and Top Administration officials describe miller as a prolific writer and combative surrogate writing the central plot of the Trump Presidency and say his power in the white house right now is at its peak. He has influence on virtually every element of immigration policy. So the result, hundreds of children separated from parents and a growing humanitarian crisis at the border and the administration is targeting legal immigrants who require federal assistance, but those close to miller telling the Washington Post his views, his restrictionist immigration agenda, as saving american society. Heres how miller is responding to claims that he has racist views. It is a scurry lus and scandalous lie born of a complete and total lack of understanding of the harms done by uncontrolled migration to people of all backgrounds and born of a contempt for this nation, for our Law Enforcement officers and for the citizens who live here, and often times i might add, born of a personal grudge against this administration. Interesting to hear Stephen Millers voice. Mike is following the president in Berkeley Heights in new jersey and with me jason, Senior Writer for the New York Times and the author of the book a good provider is one who leaves. Thats out on tuesday. Molly hooper, freelance congressional reporter and glen curner, nbc legal analyst. Welcome to all of you. Head over to mike who is out there in Berkeley Heights. The president expected to leave within the next few hours. The New York Times mike reports that despite the president s public image as an unrelenting immigration foe, some restrictionist leaders view him as a soft businessman whose key si desire for labor will lead him to support more immigration, that unreliability they say makes mr. Millers presence important. Give us a little bit of color. Youre at the white house often. Whats millers role really like . Well, i think you cant underestimate the influence that Stephen Miller has on that subject of immigration, and there is plenty of evidence to point to that evidence manifested, no more recently than just a few days ago when the administration announced that those who are applying for a green card to be a resident here in this country and to have the legal right to work, would not be able to do so if they were a socalled quote unquote public charge. In other words if they receive public assistance or benefited from the social safety netting in any way, shape, or form. Stephen miller is looked at, the perception about Stephen Miller hes a nefarious type force that lurks in the west wink and pushes the president into these positions where the president , you know, he suspect quite the hardliner on immigration he makes out to be. I dont think thats necessarily the case. Certainly white house staff is eager to downplay the idea that Stephen Miller is pulling the strings behind the scenes. There you have it. Stephen miller obviously an influential figure in the west wing. Do you think the president will like this sort of feature, two features with Stephen Miller there . I have to you have to assume and i think you have jason on set who can answer the question better since he was the author of the New York Times story i have to assume this was cleared with the white house and to the extent that president was aware of it, maybe being reminded of it this weekend and seeing it there on the front page of the paper, he might have a change of heart. But i couldnt tell you for sure, kendis. Bring jason into the conversation because as mike mentioned right there, jason, you wrote the New York Times piece how Stephen Miller seized the moment to battle immigration as its called and while you were on msnbc speaking with david earlier today on up the president fired off a tweet against the New York Times. Think he was watching and reacting to your article . Well, mike said earlier that perhaps the articles had been cleared with the white house. Just to clarify, the white house would not talk to us about miller or his role in the administration and, of course, had no role in clearing any articles. Thats right. As we were mentioning, when there have been other advisers who have got an lot of publicity over the years, steve banon comes to mind, the president has had adverse reaction behind the scenes to it. What do you think his reaction is to these miller articles . Excess publicity seems to be a job hazard, not good for your career at the white house. I think miller has been pretty shrewd in not overseeking the limelight and also of just paying lavish devotion to trump at every public opportunity he gets. I imagine hell be out doing both, putting all the attention back on trump as much as he can. Molly, as you know, miller was a congressional aid at one point. What was his immigration policies like then and did that help him champion the cause within the administration . Well, i would say theyre very similar to what they are today given that his primary boss, i remember working with him back in the day, so to speak, when he worked for Jeff Sessions and Jeff Sessions point person to the press and Jeff Sessions has been a longtime critic of more lax Immigration Reforms. And has been a hardliner when it comes to immigration issues. If you look at the separating families at the border, that had Stephen Millers hands all over it and Jeff Sessions was the attorney general at that point. I just remember when Stephen Miller was with sessions, when sessions was a senator, i would get dozens of emails from Stephen Miller and he was relentless in pursuing whatever sessions was touting that week, but again, sessions has always been a hardliner on Immigration Reform and has been one of those individuals in the Republican Party that has made it very difficult for members of both parties to move forward on a compromised legislation to fix or to attempt to fix whats broken at the border. In the meantime former Trump Administration official Omarosa Manigault told my colleague last month that miller was behind the infamous send her back chants and made several allegations against the Senior Adviser. Watch what she had to say. Donald trump wants to start a race war in this country and it started at that rally. Stephen miller penned that and put that in the prompter. In the prompter is ridiculous whats important to acknowledge yeah. You heard her there. Based on your reporting, jason, whats your take on omarosas take . I think miller has a kind of genius for finding the most divisive seam in the immigration debate and zeroing in on it. Chants like that at a rally, efforts to insert the most ranker possible into the issue are his trademarks. Miller has reportedly spearheaded most if not all of trumps fwraigs policies but there have been a lot of legal hurdles. What are the chances of the white house successfully implementing the public charge rule as its called . It does seem like Stephen Miller has taken the president s sort of racist tendencies weve seen dating back to the 1970s when he was sued for discrimination in who he would rent his Housing Units to and hes managed to take those policies and try to mold them into law, into executive orders and the problem is that he seems to be molding them into unlawful and unconstitutional policies. When we look at the muslim ban that president tried to put into effect within weeks of being inaugurated by executive order, a court immediately jumped out and issued a temporary restraining order saying it was likely unconstitutional and an Appellate Court upheld that. It took the administration three times to get the socalled travel ban right and by right i mean having five of the four of the Nine Supreme Court jus tisz decide that it was not unconstitutional. Whether its that or sending up trial balloons where people born in the United States are not necessarily u. S. Citizens which would be blatantly unconstitutional dating back to 1868, it does seem like so many of the things that Stephen Miller gets his hands on do violence to the constitution and to the principles of including ethnic minorities, religious and racial minorities. I should back up a little bit because the pluck charge rule that you were responding to under that plan the u. S. Would be able to deny lawful permanent status to lowincome legal immigrants that rely on federally assisted programs. Im curious, as we look at all of you, would all of you be here in this country based on these new immigration policies . I would not. Im not sure but i know that my aunt has done a lot of research and we go back to the mayflower. Im not sure. Glen . I dont know if i would want to be in a country that instituted that exclusionary rule, but i was enlightened by the reporting that Stephen Miller apparently his parents were immigrants and yet hes looking to bar immigrants. I dont quite understand how somebody can take that position. Jason, last word to you. I think your question goes to the heart of what theyre trying to do, beyond the commas and the clauses of the rules there, theyre trying to redefine the nation as to one thats not a nation of immigrants. That i think is the longterm philosophical vision. Thats the sad part about all of that i guess. Jason, molly and glen, thanks to you. The mayor of portland, oregon, angry following the rally that featured the proud boys, a far right organization deemed a hate group by some. Hundreds of far right nationalists met by counter demonstrations from antifascists there in downtown portland. You can see the larger Peaceful Demonstrations did end with more than a dozen arrests and some minor injuries. President trump tweeted ahead of the rally saying in part that major consideration is being given to naming antifa an organization of terror. He said nothing about the proud boys, a group made up of some White Nationalists. Scott cohen is live in portland and you were there in the thick of it yesterday. How did things end up yesterday and how is the city returning to normalcy today . It is very much a normal day, kendis, vastly different from what we were talking about 24 hours ago. You wouldnt know to look at it there were hundreds of protesters going at it yesterday. In the end as you said, 13 arrests, six minor injuries. A lot of planning went into that by mayor ted wheeler but the proud boys, the organizers of the rally, and enrique and joe business say they will be back issuing a statement. Mayor wheeler should use the past few weeks of preparation for detail as a template going forward. Either he takes charge and removes them from his city, referring to antifa, or we come back month after month. The mayor angry about that in a News Conference last night. Now confronting the reality in the United States we have a rising White Nationalist Movement Based on White Supremacy in this country and it is impacting the entire nation. Were certainly seeing that play out here on the streets. Reporter the mayor says that he does not, to be clear, want bigs or the others back in this city. We will see. It costs millions of dollars and in preparation here and that, the proud boys say, is exactly the point. Guys . It really has returned to normal there. Yesterday it was sunny. Today overcast. It is a normal day in portland, indeed. Thanks to scott cohen there. Overseas, hong kong remains on edge during the 11th straight weekend of antigovernment protests. Tens of thousands of people turned out in the rain for a prodemocracy march. This all while the Chinese Paramilitary Police remain gathered across the border. For more we turn to nbcs Janice Mackie fryer. There are still people on the streets here about 12 hours after the rally started earlier today. This a more committed crowd than the one that we saw earlier, but the protest leaders now urging people to go home. The police have been largely absent, hands off for most of the day. This was a show of strength for protesters as well as a key measure of public support for this movement that started out of opposition to the extradition bill and is now about a wider set of concerns about hong kongs autonomy and what people see as chinas tightening grip. China continues to be strident in its messaging. Today releasing a rap video effectively blaming the United States and President Trump for pulling the strings here, saying that u. S. And other Foreign Forces have been instigating these protests. Also, state media has been showing video of these massive chinese Paramilitary Force drills that are happening less than 20 miles away in shenzen. All of the messaging from china suggests beijing is adamant that the protests will end, but of all of the things theyre dangling out there as options for them to end the protests, negotiation or compromise doesnt seem to be one of them. Kendis . That indeed, the protests entering their 12th week now. Janice mackie fryer in hong kong for us, thanks to you. He is the current king of controversy on capitol hill. Controversy in politics nothing new and happens a lot as you know. The way our two Political Parties deal with scandals lead to different outcomes. Right now republicans and democrats each face their own controversies for republicans its, of course, iowa congressman steve king under fire for a string of remarks. Republicans stripped king of his Committee Assignments but still remains on capitol hill for the most part. For democrats former senator al franken, pushed out of the senate by democrats amid allegations of sexual misconduct, now some in his party are wondering if that was actually a mistake . Joining me now is sam brodie, congressional reporter for daily beast and back with me chris lu, former labor secretary, and republican strategist rinna shaw. Rinna, start with you on this one. Steve king offered this clarification at a town hall meeting in iowa last fight. Night. Heres my message and it is this, that im defending innocent, unborn human life. I did not allow exceptions for rape and incest in that bill because those babies that are born as a product of those activities are as precious as you are or any of my grandchildren are. Theyre all created if gods image too. I dont want to stigmatize those people this country or the world for that matter if theyre a product of rape or incest. A little bit of context to that. You heard what he was saying there and you saw that he was giving his explanation. Who was listening to it . Do we have the photo . Steve king, gives a defense and nobody is there in the room to listen except for two people does it really matter . Of course it matters hes still a sitting elected official who says hes a republican. Here we are in this moment where congressman steve king put his foot in his mouth, walking back but going on to say in other outlets he was misquoted and its the republicans, the Republican Leadership and the media that owes him an apology. The reality is this, he sounds like a former elected official with the last name aiken. Hes a headache with the Republican Party. These are not modern views or views widely held by todays republicans in the leadership in congress as well as just generally in congress. Republicans do not feel this way. They want exemptions for rape and incest. Most republicans do not feel this way. I keep saying it over and over because he is not a sign of the times, he is not indicative of what republicans nationally feel and i must say this, im excited about his primary challenger a sitting state senator i believe in iowa has already out raised him Something Like four times his spending in the first quarter. Its not looking good for steve king. Chris, quickly before i get to you, sam, as you look at that photo right there, is that a sign of trouble for steve king . I dont know if it is or not. Lets remember that he won his race in 2016 against a much better funded democratic challenger in a democratic wave year. The problem for the Republican Party is that these really extreme antiabortion views of steve king as well as his White Nationalist views, represent the views of a big chunk of the Republican Party and i would defy you actually to put side by side some of the comments that steve king has made along with donald trump. You would be hard pressed to tell who said what. Thats the problem as democrats i was just going to say as republicans step out against steve king, theyre also implicitly criticizing donald trump. But it does appear as if the parties handle scandals differently. You have steve king there in office and sam you spoke with former Senate Majority leader harry reed who says he wishes that Al Frank Woon take another shot at running for public office. Some of the lawmakers who called for his resignation have stood by their claims. What do you think others are reconsidering here . At least within the Democratic Party . Well, i think a lot of it has to do with how subsequent scandals involving democratic politicians have been handled. Governor ralph north m remains in office, which basically the entire virginia Democratic Party establishment called on him to resign and he remains in office. I think a lot of democrats look back at that moment where franken resigned as a moment where tensions around the metoo movement, how these things should be handled in politics, some of these democrats view it as something that basically resulted in a hasty decision that franken was denied due process and now this time later theyre reevaluating that decision as other politicians have navigated scandal differently. And sam, why did senator reed tell you that hes having second thoughts about this and asking for franken to reconsider running for office again . Well, i think there are a lot of folks, reed and franken were close when franken was in the senate and reed was the leader of the Democratic Party there. I think they are friends and allies who feel he was wrong and believe he was an effective voice for the party and liberal principles in the senate and feel that that is missing and they would like to see him run again. I dont think that theres any sign franken is seriously considering it. He seems to be possibly making a bid to return to sort of his former career as a liberal political pundit and humorist viewed by some as probably the most viable path for him to return to public life. Chris, on another note, you have the congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and ilhan omar holding a press Conference Tomorrow to discuss the travel restrictions to israel and palestine this past weekend. With others kind of like rallying around them, you get a sense this brought the Democratic Party together again . I think thats exactly right. This has been happening because of donald trumps, the way hes gone after not only these two but all four members of the squad and whenever democrats seem divided you can count on donald trump to bring them back together. Thank you, guys. All right. The whole world could soon be a swamp at the current pace of global warming. While democrats are rolling out plans to address the climate crisis, some republican strategists fear the issue could be a republican vulnerability. Joining me now is noaa climate scientist, deke, and asked republican strategist reena shaw to stick around once more to talk about all this. Deke, i do want to start with you, why are the ice melts there in greenland so alarming . We talked about over the years but why now . So these things are connected to the Global Climate that you described earlier. The reason screenland is so important, theres so much ice sitting on top of greenland. The more of that that melts the more Sea Level Rise well see in coming years. You see those scenes, you see it saw the incredible image out of alaska. And from those kayakers. You get a sense that thats going to be the norm . We will see continued melting of land ice. That contributes to Sea Level Rise around the world. What happens in the arctic doesnt stay in the arctic. As that continues to go on, well continue to feel it around the world. Deke, all of that said, is there anything out there that has been put out there, the paris Climate Change accord, anything that could actually make a difference . So it will take, you know, action an the world. Im not a policy expert but if we do want to stop or slow down global warming, it will take a coordinated effort of governments around the world. Reena, i wanted to talk to you, its an Important Campaign issue. The Pew Research Center shows nearly 60 of young republicans between the ages of 23 and 38 listed Climate Change as a top concern. Thats a really, really important and thats a red flag right there for the Republican Party. Im proud to be prt of that demographic, kendis, been a proconservation l republican my whole life, ygrowing up in the mountains of west virginia, its been a big part of my upbringing to be a good steward of the environment. Conservatives across our beautiful land believe that same message, we should be good stewards of our environment. Today what were hearing from young republicans, im proud to support and be involved with a group called American Conservation Coalition. Were having a coloqium ten days from now. Were talking about climate science. Thats really important. That right there tells you how important the issue is. Forget the partisan bickering, forget the occupant of the global water not do people in the Republican Party get that . That it could end up the melting ice in greenland could turn red states blue . Yes. People are really awakened to that and i think thats not really being reflected, sorry, excuse me, in the Mainstream Media because people tend to not talk about the environment first. You know, i was an environmental legislative aide on capitol hill. This is really important to me because the environment now as a young mother, im also really caring more about my waste and the impact of, you know, just really everything thats happening. Whats it doing to our weather . Whats it doing to our human condition . Our health . There are so many longterm detrimental impacts that younger republican, that demographic you indicated right there, up to the age of 38, we are awaken and were not desensitized to all this older traditional messaging on denying Climate Change and science, rather, so im super excited to be more involved with the American Conservation Coalition like i said. But also theres also citizens climate lobby that ive been connected with in the past. I encourage fellow americans who are interested in hearing how conservatives feel, check those groups out. Were seeing those numbers reflected in the numbers, indeed, with the young conservatives. Deke, thanks to you as well as reena shaw. Thank you. Thank withdrew. A new planshaw thank you. Gun reform has been a hot topic on the campaign trail, theres another issue that has been on the minds of 2020 hopefuls. Criminal Justice Reform. And any moment right now, senator Bernie Sanders speaking in columbia, South Carolina. As the president ial candidate unveils a new plan that he hopes will sway a major voting bloc but will it be enough . And for the white house and a push for black voters. Senator Bernie Sanders out today with a proposal to reform the countrys criminal Justice System. Hes speaking live right now. This is in columbia, South Carolina. Lets listen in. The housing that they need to get their feet on the ground so they dont fall into the same environment which got them into jail in the first place or, rather, allows them to integrate themselves into Civil Society and become good citizens. Why do we have such a high rate of recidivism, people who leave jail and end up coming back into jail . So let me start with that question. We have more people in jail than any other country on earth. Were spending 80 billion a year. Can we invest that money in better ways than we currently do to keep people out of jail and to make sure that if they are in jail, when they come out, they dont go back in. Who wants to start . Phil . Introduce yourself. Good afternoon. What was your experience and so forth. Uhhuh. Good afternoon, everybody. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Yall, everybody. You all like everybody. My name is phillip agnew. Im a national surrogate for e the all right. Bernie sanders there speaking and taking in some questions there at a town hall in columbia, South Carolina. The senators announcing his plan as many of his rivals focus on New Hampshire, on another sunday of stumping. Look at the list there. Of how many people are in New Hampshire today. Their weekend campaigning coinciding with crosscountry rallies aimed at Gun Legislation reform, an issue that will likely shape the next debate with new polling showing overwhelming support for some reform measures. Look at that. We have team couverage from our road warrior to our panel but begin in South Carolina. Shaq brucer right there at the Bergen Center town hall. Reporter hi there. Im at the event hell be right after the town hall. Hes been spending all day reaching out to black voters, going to churches and having the town hall meeting now and be at this block party. For senator sanders its about rolling out this new criminal Justice Reform plan. What it does is its an expansion of what he normally talks about on the campaign trail. Just lets look at some of the highlights of this plan. He talks about ending forprofit prisons. He wants to end cash bail. He wants to transform community policing. He wants to go back to those consent decrees we saw under the Obama Administration ensuring all americans do process and ending mass incarceration and excessive sentencing. One of the goals of this proposal to is reduce the prison population in the country. He wants to cut it in half in an unspecified amount of time. I got to speak to him about his proposal after his first event, he was having a forum with black church leaders. Listen to what he told me. This was an issue your supporters wanted you to be more aggressive on in 2020. Is this reflection i kind of dont accept that. We were strong in 2016. It its not a political issue. Its the reality of american society. Reporter this is an issue that comes up all the time from people on the campaign trail. A lot of democrats who see criminal Justice Reform as a rising priority in their minds. Senator sanders, of course, here in South Carolina where 60 of the electorate here will be africanamerican voters. So thats part of this rollout thats part of this outreach that were seeing. This is a state in 2016 blunted senator sanders momentum after he came up close in iowa then won in New Hampshire and lost big here in South Carolina. He thinks hes going to do better. He sayss going to beat expectations in South Carolina this time around. This criminal justice rollout is part of that. Kendis . Shaq, youve been following the senator for some time right now and have the new nbc wall street journal poll that shows senator sanders popularity is waning a bit there as you can see there, his popularity is going down. How does the support seem . At least from the ground, as you talked with many voters there. Reporter yeah, you know, ill start with when i spoke to senator sanders earlier today, i asked him about the polling and hes been very critical of the medias coverage of polls and i said, what do you say to those, does the race feel tighter to you in the sense that these polls show your support shifting . He said polls go up and down. Hes not concerned about that right now. He feels like hes doing well. When you go and talk to his supporters, they feel that similar feeling. They like him, still listening, going out, hear whag he hing wh to say. Hes having the town hall meeting right now and having the interactions and having this block party right now in columbia, South Carolina, his campaign trying to focus and over the months have you noticed a difference in the crowd sizes for Bernie Sanders . Reporter not necessarily. And ill say this, the campaign has intentionally gone from the big rallies that we saw in the rollout period, those 12,000 rallies 12,000person rallies in brooklyn, new york, then chicago, and they intentionally moved to smaller events because they wanted him to have more interactions with people. They were trying to get away from this rock star perception that he has and say in the conversations i have with advisers all the time, they say, we can still fill those areas and do see the nighttime rallies all the time and those bigger sized rallies but they are intentionally putting him in smaller places so that they can have more interaction with the candidate. It will be interesting to see, though, as we continue to go along, as more candidates come in, more candidates continue to surge, especially Elizabeth Warren, if that shifts and if those rallies that we talked about and that we saw especially in the early going, if those rallies disappear all together, or if they come back and make a resurgence. Yeah. Retail politics sort of strategy. Shaquille brewster in columbia, South Carolina, thanks to you. I want to bring in the panel. Matt, republican strategist. And danielle moodiemillmoodie of sirius xms wokeaf and cohost of the great podcast, democracyish. Listened to it this past week. All right, danielle, Bernie Sanders trying to put out his criminal Justice Reform plan and a big plan to try to get black supporters doing more so, they say, than he did back when he ran last time. Will it work . Im unclear of whether it will work or not because right now, you have elizabeth war won whos really eating into the supporters who backed bernie back many 2016. When it was just a field of two. Now they have a lot more choices and Elizabeth Warren is surging as we were saying. I think that Bernie Sanders rolling out this criminal justice plan matters because he was one of the senators that voted for the 1994 crime bill. That biden has embraced as the biden bill and now is trying to back away from. So i think that its important for him to show that he recognizes that there is a criminal Justice System problem in this country that that crime bill created, that he supported and that he needs to figure out what should be done in order to, one, bring down the numbers of black and brown folks that are incarcerated, change the policies has created mandatory minimum sentencing for lowlevel he has a pretty good civil rights history, he was marching well before many. Yes. Whenever asked about civil rights, he always talks about marching with Martin Luther king jr. Which is fantastic. There were people who were t werent. If thats what youre reaching for and dont have anything to show for in the decades after that, then i find a problem with it. Okay. Valid point. Matt, our new nbc news wall street journal polling show americans are split on a very important issue for the president , the economy and his handling of the economy. You think as a president and his advisers are looking at all the data that came out of our poll earlier today, this is the one thing that theyre probably most worried about . Well, i mean, the economy has been one of the strongest selling points that trump has a had and wants to use for his reelection. And there are some signs that we may be seeing a slowdown. You saw, i think, two top advisers just this morning on the sunday shows making the argument that the economy remains strong and there are likely factors both domestically and internationally that may continue to keep it strong through the 2020 calendar year. But, look, if the economy were to weaken, it would weaken the economy argument that trump can make for reelection in 2020. And so, you know, i think he needs to be wary of that. Hes generally gotten better marks from the public on the economy than he has on any other issue and than he has generally in terms of his job approval. So its been his area of strength. I think if you look at the 500,000 manufacturing jobs that have been brought back, historically low unemployment, nationally and for important groups like africanamericans and hispanicamericans, hes got some good arguments to make but we need to keep the economy strong for the next year and a of to give him the best chance possible for reelection. Thats why the president is probably looking at those numbers and thinking that he definitely have to try and keep the economy strong. Former Vice President , in the meantime, joe biden, has consistently held the frontrunner status as you guys know. Lets take a look at the numbers that we have from our poll as well. Showing his favorability. Taking a bit of a hit. Does this make him a little bit vulnerable heading into the next debate . Yeah. I think that it does make him vulnerable. I, you know, joe biden, this is his third time at the race running for president. And what we see is that he always comes out strong and people recognize his name and then he piddles out. Thats kind of what were seeing right now. Im concerned about it because hes being labeled as the frontrunner. I think joe biden is piddling out because he still, today, he was talking about theres an awful lot of good republicans out there for him to work across the aisle with. And im like, sir, have you not been paying attention that republicans dont want to work with you . So im very concerned about his understanding of the Political Climate right now, and i think that that is what the poll numbers are showing that people are also concerned about his perception of where we are politically right now. Matt, at this point, is there really a frontrunner, about 160plus days out from iowa . Yeah, look, biden is the frontrunner but hes a weak frontrunner. I think one of the advantages he has is he is really competing in the mainstream wing of the party and really competing for moderate and independent democratic primary voters. And hes got that wing entirely to himself, while Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris are all competing on the progressive, you know, left wing of the party. And so theyre dividing that vote up. Look, warren is rising at Bernie Sanders, you know, expense. Biden has been pretty solid at the top. I dont think hes in a strong position. I think theres a good chance Elizabeth Warren could win iowa or New Hampshire and become a frontrunner if that were to happen. Biden has to get through the next few months, two more rounds of debates and september and october. Shapes up for South Carolina, matt, and dwan yeanielle, to bel firewall. Who, in essence, has the advantage right now, at this point . At this point, its still incredibly early, i think Elizabeth Warren has the momentum and i think her momentum will continue. She has the plans. Shes the only candidate in the race right now who hasnt seen a slip in her numbers. Shes been on a steady incline. I think thats going to continue. Shes been doggedly pursuing the africanamerican vote and going after black women who are the base of the Democratic Party with a myriad of plans from racial closing the racial wealth gap, to black womens Maternal Mortality rate and on and on and on. So i think shes going to be the person to watch as we count down. All right. Theres plenty of time, indeed. Our thanks to matt and danielle. Do stick around with us. Recess rallies as theyre being called are all across the country hoping to pressure lawmakers to address the gun issues. Sooner rather than later. One happening right now in new york city. Thats where nbcs Chris Pollone joins us live. Chris, whats the turnout so far right now . Reporter yeah, hey, kendis. Weve moved down into the crowd now since last time we talked to you and you can take a look for yourself at what were seeing here. It actually is a pretty good turnout here today. Given as i said before its extremely hot. Very humid here. A lot of people Drinking Water before this thing started earlier. A lot of people were kind of hiding in the treelined walk behind me. Just to stay out of the sun. But once they started this event a little after 2 00 eastern time, a lot of these people came forward. We saw some poignant moments earlier when they called the organizers, every town for gun safety, called people who had been personally affected by gun violence to the front and held a moment of silence. There were about a dozen people there who had directly lost people to gun violence. Kind of a touching moment. Weve heard from advocates. We heard from democratic congresswoman Carolyn Maloney who represents the east side here. This is one of 100 of these things taking place over yesterday and today. Kendis . All right, thanks to Chris Pollone there at that recess rally as it is called. Thank you. Were more than a year out, but some senate races are heating up including a contest that could include the latest member of the kennedy political dynasty. A look at the races to watch in 2020. Next. So we are 443 days away from the 2020 elections and democratic president ial candidates are already ruling out u. S. Senate runs. Beto orourke, montana governor Steve Bullock, andrew yang. We also had julian castro, kid rock. They have decided they will not run for senate. Some 34 states are up for grabs in 2020. 22 are currently held by republicans and democrats will need to pick up at least three or four seats to be in the majority. But why arent more 2020 democratic hopefuls willing to step up . Joining us now to discuss, seraj, the writer and editor for the washington examiner. Michelle goldberg, columnist at the New York Times. And an msnbc contributor. And back with me are danielle and matt. Welcome, guys. Okay. So, michelle, what is it about why is it just posturing at this point why theyre saying no, no, no, were just running for president , were not running for the senate, sort of like marco rubio did way back when . I mean, i wish that that was the case. I would be really pleased if that was the case because its so frustrating given that, you know, these races are going to be pivotal into whether whoever the democratic president is or whichever democrat has a shot at the presidency is not going to be able to exercise any meaningful power if Mitch Mcconnell is still in charge of the senate. I desperately wish that, for example, beto orourke would have taken up the invitation issued by the houston chronicle, they said please come back, your state needs you, run for senate. That would have been the perfect exit for him to say, you know, yes, my state is asking me to come home and who ale to say no . You know, so many of these candidates, Steve Bullock i think is from the governor of montana, is extraordinarily unlikely to be the democratic nominee. You know, why he wont run for senate is inexplicable. I look at this and can only think popular governor of montana. That this is how much Mitch Mcconnell has broken the senate, right, that the senate used to be, you know, a plum job, and now its just frustration and gridlock and misery. To put to put a positive note on all of it. As you know, John Hickenlooper last week said that he was dropping out. Of his president ial bid. But he already ruled out a senate run in june. Watch and listen. A couple of the papers in your home state have called on you to drop out of this race and run for senate. What do you think about that . Well, if the senates so good, how come all those senators are trying to get out . The senate doesnt attract me at this point. Just doesnt attract me. What do you make of that respon response . You get a sense that he may regret saying that or that might be included in some campaign ad if he should run. I can tell you that the National Republican Senatorial Committee will probably use that in an ad run to try to say that John Hickenlooper isnt interested in running or representing you in the senate, why should you vote for him, vote for cory booker cory gardner, wow, that was a real slipup there. Cory gardner is vulnerable in the state of colorado because thats a state during president ial elections that always tips blue. And so if you get a strong candidate at the top of the ticket, running against trump, the stronger the likelihood is that, say, someone like John Hickenlooper could win the senate race in colorado because usually a high turnout of democrats in downballot races would only help with a strong candidate at the top of the ticket. Yeah. Hes won twice there statewide in colorado. Popular governor there. At the time. Matt, i want to get your take on the state of maine. Republican senator Susan Collins still has not announced her reelection bid. And some late polling recently has taken maine from lean republican to tossup. What are the chances that he does try to run again for reelection or decides not to . Yeah, i think theyre pretty good. I think Senate Republicans are expecting her to run again. Look, i think she was shaken up is she vulnerable . Well, look, maine is obviously a tough state. I dont think shes vulnerable. Shes been able to have tremendous electoral success in maine over her career. She has her own identity. Shes not tied to trump in the way that some Washington Republicans are. And shes moderate and shes demonstrated that over the years on a range of issues. At times frustrating even Senate Republicans. So, look, its ult pimately up her. The decision to retire is a deeply personal one. At some point you decide youve done enough. I think she will run again. I think her race will be competitive. I dont think shes at risk of lets talk about neighboring maine massachusetts, rather, the bay state. This is find fascinating. The boston globe reporting just yesterday massachusetts representative joe kennedy is considering a primary challenge next year against democratic senator ed markey. But a spokesperson, i should say, for the kennedy clan there told politico on friday that hes running for reelection in his district, that statement comes as multiple reports say kennedy is actually eyeing this run against markey. Why, what do you make of this . I really have no idea. I think that the i mean, i think that that is incredibly interesting. People love the kennedys. They love the dynasty. It gives them kind of like, this resurgence, this nostalgia, for whatever reason everyone in america is desperate for in this moment in time. I dont really know what to make of it. Barney frank, michelle, among those saying after he heard those rumors, hes like, why would he spend tens of millions of dollars to primary somebody to have a debate where youre talking about the thats what i dont understand. I mean, there are a lot of senators that you could imagine a progressive primary challenge to, but markey is a very progressive senator, right . Hes a cosponsor of the Green New Deal resolution with alexandria ocasiocortez. I cant think of any issue heres the thing except maybe impeachment. Go ahead. Democrats need a rising star. Theyre so relinlt ant on these politicians, joe biden, Bernie Sanders, they need another bench to basically rise up through the ranks. Ed markey, we probably know he probably knew a primary challenge was on the way which made sense for him to align himself with alexandria ocasiocortez on the Green New Deal so at least he can look a little bit more progressive. Kennedy is a familiar and very nostalgic choice that a lot of democrats would rather choose coming up. Obviously, kennedy is probably wanting to get onto the senate so he can eventually make a run for president. Yeah. I mean, it would seem as if its a little bit of a bloodbath, a family battle right there. I dont think nows the time to do it. There are many people the other thing is if all goes well, wroyou know, Markey Kennedy endorsed Elizabeth Warren. I could be wrong about kennedy. Right . So there could very well be another Massachusetts Senate seat opening up. Absolutely. A lot of people have been talking about kennedy as a possible running mate. As well. So its an interesting tactic. Within some democratic circles. Interesting tactic, indeed. All right. So in the meantime, michelle, you have seven democrats who have filed to run against senator john cornyn there in texas. But no democrat has won a statewide officer there in texas since 1994. I kind of feel do you kind of feel as if a lot of people think texas has fools gold for democrats where they feel as if its moving . So, i would be tempted to say that but the people who really know texas whove been skeptical in the past of the idea that texas could be becoming a purple state or could be going blue, they seem to think republicans there are pretty vulnerable. Right. Yeah. Youve seen this collapse of support for the president in the suburbs. The demographic change means the possibility is there in the future. Whether or not this is the year, it does seem like, you know, republicans certainly seem you look at the exodus of Texas Republicans from kocongress. Right . They clearly feel like their prospects are not great. Yeah, theyre calling it the texasdus. Youre right there in austin, texas, whats the feel youre getting from the state . The large democratic field against cornyn does suggest democrats think theres an opportunity but that large field also plays to cornyns advantage. Highly likely to have a primary runoff so the primarys in march, the runoff would be in may. That would give the democratic nominee 4 1 2 months to raise money and become the general election candidate. Cornyn was able to watch cruzs very close call last year and hes been preparing running the best Reelection Campaign of any senate republican. Staffs up early, raising money, working the state aggressively. I dont think cornyn is vulnerab vulnerable. 2020 is going to be different than 2018 was in texas. Michelle is right to point out the suburbs. Theres concern there. Beto flipped five key suburban counties in the austin area, dallas area and the houston area. Straightticket votings over. Beto orourke and 80 million will not be in place in 2020 like 2018. The action is the eight congressional districts that are going to be competed in not at i think the statewide level. At least eight congressional distri districts. Well see how many others declare for an exit out of texas. Thank you. Danielle, please stick around if you dont mind. This week episode of american swamp takes a look at an issue that nearly every american agrees is needed. Infrastructure improvement. While work on this issue seems to be at a standstill in many parts of the country, katy tur and Jacob Soboroff visit los angeles, california, where a combination of federal and government funding has helped the area make significant progress. Take a look. Were crawling along the 10 freeway west of downtown los angeles. The problem here isnt crumbling roads. Its just that there are too in cars. Youre list tong dear white people. Same title. New spin. The show is going to be a little different with your girl. Going to touch the major issues, political and cultural. What are you doing with all this wine . That was a groundbreaking netflix series, dear white people which, of course, centers on Race Relations at a fictional Ivy League School where privilege takes center stage, specifically White Privilege, which, by the way, is a topic of a new report from axios which examines the meaning of White Privilege. Did you know its only been around since 19 8 88 . The article features a survey where 46 of whites believe their race is beneficial for them compared to 92 of blacks and 65 of hispanics who believe white americans benefit from their race. Well, joining me now, clay cane, sirius xm urban view host and political commentator and danielle moodiemills, host of wokeaf on sirius xm and political columnist,. Erica pandy is joining me also, the author of white culture war the meaning of White Privilege. Why did you look into White Privilege . Why does it matter . Yeah, so the germ of the story came from we last weekend wrote a piece about how the media struggles to write about race and we got a slew of emails and, you know, a lot of them were from lowerincome white readers who identified as such and they said, i think the whole race thing in the media is overblown because ive had no advantages, ive had, you know, so many hardships in my life, ive bootstrapped my whole life, why are people suddenly saying White Privilege is a thing . My life has been anything but privilege. For me personally as a person of color in my conversations with other people of color, its very simple. Its not about white doesnt equal privilege, its just that theres a system of societal and social advantages that are afforded to you because youre white. This is older than our nations founding. So, you know, we thought lets write a piece that digs into this and tries to without alienating anyone explain what this really means and why its dangerous for us to run away from it. Surprisingly enough, the term, itself, has become more popular recently but its only been around since 19 88 8 . Yeah. So it was mentioned i mean, white skin privilege, something to that effect was mentioned, you know, as early as w. E. Du boy j hi, hi, how are you . White privilege mentioned in quotes by Peggy Mcintosh in a paper at wellesley college. I spoke to her on the phone. Shes in her 80s now. She said i never intended for this to become a flashpoint or for it to be weaponized. Now it is because its getting mixed up with class privilege. This is purely about Something Like, when you go to the airport are you afraid youre going to get pulled aside, when you get pulled oef over by a cop, are you afraid for your life . When you go to the go rrocery store, are you being followed around because they think you might steal something . Race relations in the country, 56 of whites say its generally bad compared to 71 of blacks. You hear from callers all across the country every given week on your show. Why do you think theres that divide in the focus on race there . Part of the issue when you talk about White Privilege, people take it personal, i always say a hit dog will holler. If youre taking it personal, its not saying white folks dont have any challenges, not saying white folks dont have pain and sorrow and go through issues. I mean, the majority of people on welfare happen to be white. Right . Its the idea theres a certain experience youre not going to go through because youre white. Me as a man, theres a certain experience im going to have as a man that danielle is going to have differently as a woman. With you have to own your privilege. If you cant do that, looking at the survey is kind of scary. It shows you how people cant even accept a reality thats based in facts, thats based on stats. One of those stats i found striking from the article that was out there, that erica wrote, was while black americans are 13 of the population, back in 2012, well before ferguson, mind you, we were about 36 of those killed by Police Officers. Yeah. What do you make of that . When you look at the numbers like clay is saying, like, the facts are laid out for you. By by birth, right, your whiteness allows you so many different qualifications than being born black. Being born black means you are born with a target on your back. Right . Means that a broken taillight can turn into you being shot to death. Means that, you know, when a Police Officer is asking you to get your license and registration from the glove compartment, that, oh, i feared for my life b there might have been a gun there and youre killed. Right . It means so much more than that. So when we look at these numbers, its hard for me to understand white folks who then say, oh, no, no, no, but my life has been so difficult. Oh, no, no, no, im not one of those people. And to clays point, its not about individuality here. Its about the persistent presence of whiteness that we have allowed in this country to be ccurrency. Thats the problem here. Race being currency. Let me switch topics slightly. Leave it there on that one. Because another example, i guess, of race playing out in the news this week, jayz partnering with the nfl. He was being slammed by some and praised by others. What do you guys make of this move . Yeah. You had a lot of people who thought he was allin with kap, but kaps girlfriend, Colin Kaepernicks girlfriend, saying its a shady move. What wares me out about this, its less about jayz, its more about Roger Goodell and the nfl. I tell you why. Whenever black issues come about, they always go to a celebrity. When there was the controversy in 2012, 2013, over homophobia in the nfl and had to change the culture in the nfl, they didnt reach out to neil patrick harris, didnt reach out to rosie odonnell. They reached out to glaad, came down there, we have to change the culture. Roger goodell and nfl didnt think about reaching out to color of change or the naacp. When theres an issue in the Jewish Community you dont call barbra streisand. You reach out to the abl. Its that narrative that infantilizes black folks, yeah, well reach out to a celebrity, well have kanye and steve harvey come talk at trump tower as if theyre the expert on blackness. Theyre comedians or entertainers. Really frustrates any. Really is something thats dividing the black community and many of those folks who work right there with Colin Kaepernick and with jayz. You dont need the money. He doesnt need the money. So we dont know. Clay, danielle moodiemills, erica, thank you, guys. Which ones top the list of our panel . Back with me, right now clain kaine and danny see vallos. We want to end on a positive note. Once again, well do it reversed and go ugly, bad, good. So lets start with the ugly. Start with you, clay. Attorney general wilwrap barr gave a horrific speech at a Police Conference in new orleans. He was saying some stuff that was very circa George Wallace 1968 law and order taking about a zero tolerance policy for anybody who decides to resist arrest. And the last time we heard zero tolerance policy was locking up children at the border. He was talking about coming for district attorneys who he calls social justice warriors, some scary things from him. I think we have a clip from him. Pop it on. Must and this department will have zero tolerance for resisting police. Why does that raise such a red flag . The idea, think about just the idea of resisting, zero tolerance. What does that mean . How is that as far as for black and brown people, does that mean shoot them on site . Do you have to fight back immediately . Its scary to say that. Considering the way this administration wants to militarize police. Danny, to your ugly. This trial was declared in oregon against a man who claimed a religious objection to filing his taxes. I am a criminal defense attorney. I pour over these cases, agonize over them. Your bad. I. C. E. Raids, crazy ice raids happening. Sadly you have u. S. Citizens being arrested in these i. C. E. Raids. Its affecting people across the board. We should all be outraged by it. People are carrying their passports around because theyre nervous and scared. It is a frightening moment for many people out there. To your bad. Daylight savings is upon us again. Every time this discussion comes up. What . Sort of. Every time this discussion comes up, its a question of when are we going to change to a constant schedule so we dont have to keep bouncing forward and bouncing backward. This has got to end. While were at it, lets switch to celsius and bring back the metric system. Whatever happened to that esper rant toe, we were all supposed to speak the same language. Lets get on the skam page, folks. Lets say shed dual instead of schedule. There it is. A sound bite for your good. Play it have quickly. Yes. What would you do to insure that we have a white house and an administration that would address the issue of White Nationalist violence in our country . The first thing we need to do is get the White Nationalist that is currently in the oval office out of the oval office. Julian castro. Why is that your good. He spoke at the black Church President ial forum in atlanta, georgia. He killed it, spoke to the audience, resonated with the audience. Ulian castro isnt getting the Media Attention i feel he deserves, talking about white nationalism, the ways in which we should have black education in our Public School system. Every president ial candidate has had a hiccup when it comes to discussing race. Julian castro was the only one especially for black democratic voters that has been able to nail discussing race right now. Hes had a couple of great debate performances indeed. Absolutely. Danny, finally to you and your good. An unlike lig alliance. Oregon pastor and a stripper have teamed up to raise money for Migrant Children after these sweeping i. C. E. Raids. Im hearing a rumor that exactly half of the money raised was in crumpled 1 bills with a lot of glitter on it but i cant confirm that is true.
